  1. When you went to school were you sad about not going outside or not. Well if you liked it or not one person at BMS (Bartels Middle School) has a thought or two on that subject. He thinks that we stay inside for recess too much. Also, we should only stay inside if it is really ailing or down pouring. Also, the problem with staying inside is so bad there is not enough room in the gym.

Many kids do not get out enough energy. The kids are like hot potatoes because they have so much energy. Even though not everybody goes to the gym it is still too crowded. In addition, he also believes we have way more to do outside than inside. What we do outside is 4 square and basketball. You can also do soccer and football. This reporter believes there is a problem here and hopes that the problem will be fixed. This reporter also believes it can be fixed very easily.

  2. People at Bartels Middle school are starting to say how short their lunch periods are. From Parents Pushing for Longer Lunch Times for Students at NBC15, parents are asking schools to make lunch periods longer. This reporter interviewed two teachers and two students at Bartels Middle school (BMS) about this subject.

Teachers seem to say that the 30 minute lunch periods are long enough because otherwise, lunches could be much earlier than 10:50. However, students have been saying that lunch is too short and that they want more recess time to burn more energy. One teacher said that in their perfect world lunch would be an hour long, but knows that probably can’t happen because the number of lunches that need to be served will take too long.

Another ked said that the lunches have to be this way or there could be too many kids in a small cafeteria with not enough teachers to watch them. Also parents have been complaining as if they were dogs begging at the dinner table for longer lunches for their kids.

So overall, many kids and parents want schools to have longer lunch periods. So far there is no solution, but everyone hopes it will be resolved sometime in the future

  4. It's 7:00 at night and I finally get home from basketball practice. I've got an hour of homework and my bedtime is 8:00. When i'm tired I don't want to do anything. My parents are telling me to do my homework. I can't wait until study hall because its only on B days. I can't make it that long. The next day im really tired because I stayed up late, but I got finished my homework and all my teachers are happy not mad. The next day I got better sleep. Not getting enough sleep is a problem at bartels middle school.

There are lots of things for 8th graders to get better sleep. I learned in my interviews with several students, they don't get good sleep for several reasons. Kids leave their lights on, they keep their tvs on, they play on their phone all night, they have to go to the bathroom after they go to bed, and lots of other reasons. Slept like a baby. To get better sleep, Kids should shut their lights off, they should shut their tvs off, they should turn off their phones, they should go to the bathroom before bed, sna lots of other reasons.

  5. Trust Issues

I had a friend that went outside at recess every day and we raced. I told her things that I would not tell most people. She left me with the excuse of ¨My parents don't want us to be friends. Later she had spread rumors. Then I couldn't trust her. ¨I think trust is built up over time with someone you usually enjoy.

That was what one of the students had to say. Children feel that way everyday. Another example is that children go to there school counselor to complain about there once best friend that had just hurt them. Think what you want to think. Everyday kids feel defeated by the people out there who say they “Hope you Win”(But Hope you Lose)hint. There Lying)

That is there opinion how trust is broke. Think before you say.

  6. Dress code
Some students at bartels middle school believe the dress code is an issue. Many students believe otherwise. A student said” We should change some of the dress codes because they are directed at girls, and that the dress code is sexiest”.

In other states teenage girls are going through the same thing. In Florida a principle told his students that “ not to wear leggings unless you are a size 0, or 2 because it makes you look fat”. A 17-year-old student was told by school officials to put bandaids over her breast because her nipples were too distracting for the male students.

“ In every state not just wisconsin the dress code has went to far” said a student in wisconsin.4 out of 5 students have got dress coded this semester. Some student break the dress code on the first day of school or the last day of school. Everyone has an opinion on the dress code.

  7. The dress code at Wayne Bartels Middle School is a bit of a problem. one student says she feels the female students are being treated unfairly. have you ever been dress coded? “yes because my shoulder/ bra strap was showing” said one student. “no because boys don't have the same style as girls.” said another student. if you could have to dress code change in anyway what would the changes be?”I make like the dress code to be less strict or easier to follow.” explained one student. “I feel the dress code be less strict so we have more time to learn.” said another student. Which students do you feel the dress code affects more? “I feel it affects girls more because clothes are harder to buy to follow the dress code.” I feel the dress code affects girls because boys don't have the same style as girls.” Do you feel teacher should be more lenient about the dress code? “yes because I came to school to learn not to be taken out of class and yelled at for my clothing.”said one student. “Yes I feel there should be more lenient because then we would have more time to learn.” said another. Do you feel everything in the dress code is necessary? “no I don't because I don't think the boys should get distracted by her shoulders or thighs.”said one student.” yes because you're not supposed to wear those clothes to school they may be considered inappropriate.” explain another student.

Just from these two students and their interviews that this reporter can tell there is a lot Of mixed feeling about the dress code but for the most part they do feel it is a little sexist or a little too much to follow at such a young age. One student believes the dress code is a little over-the-top and unnecessary, but the other student believes that it is very necessary. This reporter knows what you're thinking you know this reporter did not just enter your two girls or two boys I interviewed one boy and one girl to see both sides of the story and what they thought.

  8. Most people think Bandana shouldn’t be allowed in school because they are used for gangs and you are not allowed to wear thing on your head in side . On the other hand people think they should be used used for fashion not gangs. People shouldn't assume why people wear them maybe they wear them because a parent or grandparent gave it to them and they passed away of left them or are serving are country.

People need to be decorated just like a christmas tree or they're like everybody else because what if someone is in the LGBTQ community and whant to tell everyone by wearing a certain color bandana like rainbow one or a bisexul one so school is basically say you cant like a different gender or the same as them.

But i can see why they don't what bandana in school because they can be used as a weapon or a gang sign but people need to be able to express themselves in there why if it is through a bandanna or not. Some don't and that is all i have for this.

  9. Bullying happens a lot in schools and many other places I am looking at a middle school in wisconsin to find some answers about bullying at the school. I had interviewed teacher and students to see what happens there. The teachers said they have seen it very little because people are sneaky as snakes while in the classroom. Student do not think the same people said they say a lot of bullying happens at this school.

When it happens here all students try and stop it. People think that people bully because they want to fill something that they needed in there life. Bully like to do it many times a day and it's not just one person bullying it is more than two. Also bullying happens in every school like elementary, middle and high school.

One of the reporter found this story. It all start when he moved to a new school and being the new kid. The school was different than the one he was going to last year. He was trying just to fit in and he meet a lot of people there but one kid started to bully him. He was getting bully because he was new kid and how he looked. It was happening all the way up to 6th grade then he was done with this. The kid was done with it one day he wanted to fight the kid that was bullying him. They fought and got in trouble but then the bullying stop after he stood up for himself.

Bullying happens a lot but you can stop it whenever you want. Also bullies are so sneaky and do not get caught very often. Also bullies like to do it in groups, it happens in all schools too.

  10. Homework is important because it shows that kids understand and know how to do the work. But is there to much homework? Kids say that teachers hand out way too much homework and that feel like “they're trapped underneath an avalanche of homework”.

When i interviewed kids they said that having a study hall it would help so they can at least get some of the work done. Other kids say that they do but they also have after school activities like sports or clubs so they don't have enough time to do it at home.

Some kids can get there homework done when its only two pages or they have in class and a study hall they can get it done and have it ready for school the next day.

  11. Something that most people know is that bullying is getting worse all the time and is happening everywhere around us. Bullies are very sneaky and smart on when they bully other people. People probably bully to distract themselves on what's going on is there personal lives by making other people feel bad about themselves so the bully doesn’t focus on their own problems. They bully also because they know it bothers you so if you don't let it bother you the bullying could start decreasing.

Some have admitted to why they bully. Most of the popular kids at school are bullies they supposedly think it makes them cool. Some students at Portage High School came together to try to come up with a way to stop bullying last year as a class.

One thing that all of my interviews mentioned was that bullied victims probably don't tell people about them being bullied because, there scared that the bullying could get worse or more bullying could occur or being called a snitch or something like that.

In one of my interviews she mentioned that her motto is “if you're nice to someone else then they’ll be nice to you.” She feels like bullies are seeking to much attention whether its positive or negative reactions so they are mean to innocent people to earn that attention.

  12. I got interested in the topic of ¨dress codes¨, i wondered why do dress codes have a purpose so I decided to interview a few teachers & students at Bartels Middle School.I interviewed Mrs. Devries and asked her if she thought dress codes were more strict on girls, her response was ¨Dress codes have always been the same, because of the fashion trends the clothes have gotten shorter.¨ the girls fashion has changed, the clothes are showing more skin. in every store i see, theres short shorts, tube tops, and off the shoulder shirts. I asked teachers how often they dress coded students ¨i don't dress code students

Afterwards I decided to interview a student about it she said ¨the teachers just want to get students in trouble, the teachers are just to picky about what girls wear, if they see a little bit of your shoulder they freak out!¨ Although that's what most students decide teachers have a different perspective. About 78% of girls get dress coded in middle school. A school in North Carolina did not let a honor roll student graduate and walk across the stage because of her shirt showing her collar bone, a different school in a school in Virginia did not allow girls wear leggings unless the girls were size 0-2. These are examples of different schools. “Guys dont get dress coded because they're guys”, guys can get dress coded too, for wearing a cut off, or tank top. It's not just girls getting dress coded. But all in all the dress code is still the same for both genders.
