Later in the week, we will be doing some more research about The Dust Bowl in preparation for reading Out of the Dust.  We will come back to this post and add to or adjust our thoughts about The Dust Bowl after we complete the research.

A cell is like.......

Science Class
March 27, 2014

To review what each part of a cell does, we're going to make a metaphor for a cell.  In class together, we'll watch a prezi that compares the parts of a cell to a middle school.  Then, you will work with your face partner to create your own metaphor.

Prezi Link

Write your metaphor as a blog comment.  Make sure you tell what each part does, not just "A cell is like a car".  Also, be sure to write both partner's names on the entry.

When you're done, you can explore the parts of a cell.

Who was John Wilkes Booth?

Reading
March 13, 2014

We've spent the last month reading about him, but do we really know a lot about his life before shooting Lincoln?  Today and tomorrow, we will be watching a History Channel biography of Booth.  Before we start, we will fill in a few pieces of the K-W-H-L.  Then we will watch the biography as a group.

When we're done, I want you to compare the book and the biography.  Post your responses on the blog.

Booth's capture and death

Reading Class
March 11, 2014

During chapter 11, we learned about the events that led up to Booth's capture and eventual death.  For our assignment, we traced the events.  For our discussion, I want to open it up to your thoughts.  What do you want to discuss?

Describe the topic or event with some details (like enough for someone who hadn't read the book to understand).  Then tell us your thoughts about the topic or event.

Reply to others' comments when you are done.

What is a Cell?

Science
March 6, 2014

On Tuesday, we started our cell unit by looking at different things under a microscope.  Some of the things we looked at were actual cells, some were just interesting objects - like a honeybee's stinger.

Today, you're going to work with your shoulder partner again to create a definition of a cell.  You will use a movie and two different textbooks to gather information about cells.  Then you will write a definition.  All of that information is on a google doc which is linked below.

When you are done, copy and paste your definition as a comment on this post.  Be sure to put both group member names on it.

CLK - Chapter 8 Discussion

After you read chapter 8, you prepared a discussion item for class.  Once again, we will do this discussion on the blog.  This time, let's keep a few things in mind.  First of all, it needs to be an event from Chapter 8.  Second, check your books to make sure the facts are correct.

The format will be the same.  Describe the event first and then tell your feelings about it.
When you are done, reply to your classmates' comments.

This blog will count as a summative assessment.
