Steve Jobs: Insanely Great

We've been discussing the book with our table groups.  Now it's time to branch out and find out what others that are reading this book think.  Take some time to think about a part of the book that would make for a good discussion.  It can be any part from the beginning to the part you read for today.

Tell about the part you read, give your thoughts about it, and invite others to share their thoughts too.

Here are some discussion stems.  Choose one of the following or make a similar type of post.

I want to talk about the part where __________________.  I thought _____________________.  What did you think?

The part that I thought was most interesting so far was _____________________________.  I think _________________________________________.  What did you think?

    1. I believe that Steve's enlightenment was a huge part of his life. Later in the book he still takes walks to calm him down like his trip to India. He is now more calm and capable to run a business.

    2. I think that this part was also interest but i don't really get why Steve when there like what was the purpose?

    3. Maybe he just wanted to see the world and get ideas from there

    4. What I don't understand at this part is that how would his appearence completely change, I mean I know that he lost his hair, but that he was taller and much more, round looking is what I thought was weird. He also learned a lot of religion from India. That made him more calmer and also lost some of his childhood naughtyness.

  2. This part is when Steve randomly leaves to India on pages 46 through 51. I think it's so random to leave out of knowwhere. I wonder where he gets all of this money when he only gets money for turning in cans. I think maybe his parents helped him out. What do you think?

    1. I think that he has saved his money for a while and planned the trip but they just didn't mention it earlier

    2. I agree because he wouldn't be just saving money for a random trip to go some random place. He never thought of it before so he just said I'm leaving bye.

    3. I think that he save money and I think that he go just for vacation I guess.

    4. He probably wanted to save the money to go on vacation and to get out of the house.

  3. I would like to talk about Steve's decision to stick with technology after being told by a mentor of his. Do you think his life would of turned out different if his mentor advised him to travel? I think he still would of ended up making apple. (Page 52 for reference.)

    1. I also think he will still make the apple because he wants to focus on becoming a good inventor and famous and he wants to keep coming up with the new thing.

    2. I think that he would invent apple but if he was to travel he would have been more stressed because he would need time to work but instead he would be traveling more often but he maybe could have gotten a partner to come with him and they could work on it together while traveling

    3. I don't agree because Steve probably would've ended doing something else like maybe making cars or work at NASA or something.

    4. I think it would have been good for him to travel. It would be like a break from all the stress and that his brain would be refreshed. That would make it more easier to think if he just had a fresh start.

  4. I want to talk about the part where Steve Jobs Drops out Of collage. I thought that it wasn't a good idea but then I do because he did get pretty far in life but I also think that if he did stay in collage he could be even more far in life. What did you think?

    1. I agree with you, going to college could of made him accomplish so much more. For all we know we could have holographic phones.

    2. I agree with you going to college helps with your learning and it would be good to go to college especially when you want to be an inventor because you need to know a lot of technology stuff.

    3. I also agree, if he would have stayed in school longer he could have been much more productive. He could have been taught how to maintain a big company and not have to recruit a person who sells sugar water.

  5. I want to talk about the pat where Steve sells pixar to Disney for 7.4 billion dollars and then gets even bigger then it was before. I thought it was a really bad idea because Disney/Pixar got even bigger and Steve could of had a better life. What do you think.

    1. I disagree, the money made from selling pixar was used for so much work. Without that money his technology would of not become so advanced. What is more important? Entertainment, or technology?

    2. I know he could of made more money on the long run but he needed that money right away.

  6. The part that I thought that was most interesting so far was Steve Jobs making all this new technology. I think that is really cool because he's inventing these new apple computers and he wants to become a successful inventor and I think it is working out because he is making the new thing (back then). What do you think?

    2. I think the W.Y.S.I.W.Y.G (What you see is what you get really helped Steve evolve his technology.

  7. I want to talk about the part where it says he smokes pot.I thought that they should mention it if he stops smoking it because he is the creator of apple and if he still smoked pot then that could affect the way people look at him. What do you think?

    1. I think you are right. After he smoked pot I could see why some people thought of Steve as a bad person and not a genius. Knowing that he smoked pot makes me realize he is not perfect.

    2. I think you're right but, back when he started a lot of people smoked and no one even cared about if someone smoked.

      Delete
    3. Andrew, you are right that more people smoked back then, but people still care as time goes on so even then people might not agree with him.

    4. I think that will effect a lots if he keep smoking but I think is that he is stop smoking farther in the book

  8. The part I really want to talk about is on page 38. I don't understand, he looked at all those colleges, and so he saw the one that he liked,it was an expensive private school called Reed. It said that it applied to him because it was artsy. So he went to that school. So why did he drop out and say, "I want to study what I want to study", but that was the one he picked and he liked it so why would he say it is not the right one if there were all those choices and you picked that one that you said you liked! I do not understand.

    1. Landon, Steve chose the college because Steve wanted to be a inventor. However, there may of been some classes that he did not feel were necessary. Sometimes to be in a certain occupation you have to take several different kinds of classes. I hope this was helpful.
