I am a Seal Team Six Warrior

We've been discussing the book with our table groups.  Now it's time to branch out and find out what others that are reading this book think.  Take some time to think about a part of the book that would make for a good discussion.  It can be any part from the beginning to the part you read for today.

Tell about the part you read, give your thoughts about it, and invite others to share their thoughts too.

Here are some discussion stems.  Choose one of the following or make a similar type of post.

I want to talk about the part where __________________.  I thought _____________________.  What did you think?

The part that I thought was most interesting so far was _____________________________.  I think _________________________________________.  What did you think?

  1. I want to talk about the part when the people trying to become part of the seals, left the first chance they had. I thought that it was dumb and they are quitters, for giving up the first chance they had. What did you think?

    1. I agree with you because when you start something you should go to the end even if it has a lot of pain and suffering to get to it.

    2. I think that those men were not weak or quitters.I just believe that they did not have enough will/want to go through it and think about it the higher the rank the more you have to be without your family.

    3. I think that It was Stupid that they left right away. Like why would you even join if you were going to quit.

  2. The part that I thought was most interesting so far is when Howard's mom is dating someone that anytime Howard is alone the boyfriend will come and wipe Howard with his belt. I think The boyfriend should go to jail because he is a child abuser and making Howard bleed so much that Howard's underwear stick to his butt. What do you think?

    1. I agree with that but why didn't the mom do anything about it either so I agree with but I also believe that the mother should go to.

    2. I also think that Howard's mom's boyfriend should have been punished for how bad and often he beat Howard. However, at that time there were not really any laws to prevent children from being beaten.

    3. I agree I think he should pay for all the violence he put Howard through. I feel bad for Howard. I think the boyfriend feels bad about it now but Karma will get him

  3. I am interested in the part where they had to swim with someone else tied to you. I am wondering why they had to o that tied together, why do you think they had to do that.

    1. I think it's part of their training to work together as a team.

    2. I think that they had to swim together partially to build teamwork, they would have to work together to stay floating. I also think that swimming together was training, if you are swimming while tied to someone if you stop you will not drown.

    3. I think they had to do that because they needed to work on their team work.

    4. I think they had to do it because they need to work together for team work and so if someone is injured and you have to swim with them.

    5. They are not tied together but they are handcuffed by their feet and hands. The reason they have to do this is to see if they are mentally, and physically ready

  4. I want to talk about the part where they said that they call their enemies booger eaters. I thought that it was really funny that they call their enemies booger eaters. what did you think

  5. I want to talk about the part where Howard and his partner DJ found a Iraqi bunker filled with 14 enemy soldiers. The soldiers were surrendering and didn't fight back because they were super hungry and couldn't fight back. They soldiers were asking Howard and DJ for food and they gave them some! I thought that was really nice of Howard and DJ to give there enemy food. What do you think?

    1. I agree it was nice to give them food. The people didn't want to fight, but if they didn't them and their families would be killed. So because Howard would help the innocent that have turned bad. Shows he is a good person.

    2. I agree it was kind of them to give them food but another thing to think about is, what would happen if they weren't starving.

  6. I am curious about the step dad in the book because he would abuse the main character. It said that every time the main character did something that the stepdad didnt like it,he would hit him and most of the time he would hit him for no reason.

  7. I would like to talk about how Wadin made train sound so easy and that is was no big deal.I think Wadin being abused as a kid helped but that much, and why strive to the top when you have a family and you could possibly die. What do you think?

    1. I think that because all this happened he felt like he had to strive to the top. Like why would you just sit still and let everything happen to you. Like he felt all these mixed emotions at someone who was supposed to love him. So maybe he felt like it was his responsibility to protect the people and place that he loved and the route he chose to take was the military.

    2. By the person that was supposed to love him I meant the step dad. :)

    3. I think Wadin made it sound so easy so they won't give up and quit.

  8. I wanted to talk about the part where Howard and Casanova help the boy who had an infected wound from a mine. I thought they were very brave and kind, they risked their lives and the lives of their friends just to save one boy. I do not think I would have been able to do that. What do you think?

    1. I think it is cool that they actually stopped. A lot of people would have been scared to risk their lives for someone they did not know.

    2. I agree but I also believe that a lot of snipers would have shot him because he saw them. I would never be that brave but is a good thing some people are.

  10. I want to talk about the part where he went on to that ship and they had to infiltrate it. What I mainly wanted to talk about though was when that guy came out with the firing extinguisher and tried to smack Howard in the face. Imagine if he would have gotten a clear hit. Big time SEAL death by fire extinguisher. I thought that that would be a weird twist to the story, but since this is nonfiction, just no. It is weird though, I am so used to reading fiction books that reading a non-fiction books I think of things and then instantly feel bad about thinking them because this is someones real life. It is not just something that someone woke up one morning and thought you know I will write a book called I am a SEAL Team Six Warrior. Well that is what I think at least.

    1. I also think that the story would have been very different if Howard had been killed or badly injured at that point, the book would not have been written. I understand what you are talking about as well, in fiction books you can normally predict what is going to happen, but non-fiction is much more random.

  11. The most Interesting part that I thought was when Howard's mom was dating someone and they beat him. I think the boyfriend should go to jail. What do you think.

    1. I think he should go to jail for a good number of years considering how often he beat him.
