Warrior's Heart

We've been discussing the book with our table groups.  Now it's time to talk with your friends from other classes that are also reading this book.  Take some time to think about a part of the book that would make for a good discussion.  It can be any part from the beginning to the part you read for today.

Tell about the part you read, give your thoughts about it, and invite others to share their thoughts too.

Here are some discussion stems:

I want to talk about the part where __________________.  I thought _____________________.  What did you think?

The part that I thought was most interesting so far was _____________________________.  I think _________________________________________.  What did you think?

  1. I want to talk about the part where they went to the game. I thought it was funny that when he lost the boy on page 124, every time he asked the other boys where he was they said they didn't know where he was. But as soon as he offered ice cream if they can find him, suddenly the boys knew where he was. What did you think?

    1. Yes I thought that part was really funny, I think the kids were going to try and get something from him because they obviously knew where they were.

    2. I thought it was weird as well, because if a boy is lost you should help, it seems that these boys are greedy now that they have him as a resource.

    3. I think they probably knew that he would give them something if they told him, so they probably do that to anybody who has a question, because they know they can get something out of it.

    4. I also had the same question. I thought it was sorta a joke and tried to put some humor into this. I would like to know if they actually knew or if they just guessed for ice cream.

  2. I want to talk about the part where Earl saw Beaver laying dead on the street on pages 51-52. I thought that it was weird that instead on getting Beaver to a hospital that he ran off to find Ernest instead. WHat did you think?

    1. I also thought that was weird. I think that there is a possibility he didn't really want to face the fact that he was shot. I think he probably was in shock.

    2. I think the reason that he went to find Ernest was because he was really mad that this would happen to someone he cared so much about, and he wanted Ernest to pay for it.

    3. I think the reason was he wanted to make sure that the cops would get the right person or he wanted to hurt Ernest instead, before the cops came. I think he thought that Earl wasn't hurt that bad and by the time he got back he would still be alive and he could help, but instead it went the wrong way.

    4. think most people when they go into shock do very dumb and light minded things. I am guessing in the moment he thought the dying boy rather have justice than life at that point. But yes it was very odd.

  4. I want to talk about the part where the man who was in front of Eric at the inspection line, the priest, had about forty thousand dollars of American money. I'm guessing that he had all that money because he had a family member who was an American, and his family member died. My question was what he wanted to do with it. He was obviously not American, so unless he wanted to move to America he really had no use for it. If you are able to trade money that is not from your country into money that is, thn I bet that that was what he was going to do with it. What did you think?

    1. I agree if he has never been to america, and I'm guessing he hasn't. Then why would this old gentlemen have all this money. But if he had family in america he could have gotten an anheritance if they died... I don't know it just does not add up.

    2. I thought that was weird, he might have gone to America to get some money, for what? I have no clue, maybe he needed the extra money. He could also have had a family member who had a lot of money, so they gave him some money per his request.

    3. Yes I agree with you but I wonder if all that money was from something else because he might have gotten a job because we don't know how long he was in america either.

    4. I agree. Maybe he was planning on exchanging his american money for his country's money. We also do not know if he was staying in America. If he was he was probably planning on becoming an american citizen. If not then he probably was going to exchange.

  5. I wanna talk about the part where he went to China and was taken for inspection(31-36). I think that the Chinese cops should have taken consideration that Eric didn't know the Chinese law. I also think that the cops should have told him what law he had broken. It didn't really make sense. What do you think?

    1. I agree with that. Not only did he not know what law he broke, but we didn't know what law he broke. I would really like to know what law he broke.

    2. I agree, I think in a real life situation that cops would realize that he is American and he does not know the laws.

    3. I think they did kind of tell him the law that he broke, they asked him who asked about the American government, and I'm pretty sure he sort of understood, but it was still pretty confusing. I agree, they should have cleared that up.

    4. Yes I think that is a really good point, I feel like they kept dodging his question when he ask what law he broke, and they could obviously tell that he was from america and did not know there laws.

  7. I would like to talk about the women on pages 89-92, she seemed very odd and I don't understand why she laughed so much. Also why did he just jump into a truck with her if she was so odd. Why is Eric so trusting?

  8. I would like to talk about when our they gonna actually going into war on pages 141- 192. I know that seems a lot but that is where Eric is talking about when he is in the Navy Seal. What are they training for. Also what are they doing underwater what do they actually do underwater. I don't understand.

    1. I understand why are confused but, it is to show them that if they ever go to war they could be stranded in the water for days. So they needed to know how to hide and survive and do many things in the muddy/watery area.
