Steve Jobs - The Man Who Thought Different

We've been discussing the book with our table groups.  Now it's time to talk with your friends from other classes that are also reading this book.  Take some time to think about a part of the book that would make for a good discussion.  It can be any part from the beginning to the part you read for today.

Tell about the part you read, give your thoughts about it, and invite others to share their thoughts too.

Here are some discussion stems:

I want to talk about the part where __________________.  I thought _____________________.  What did you think?

The part that I thought was most interesting so far was _____________________________.  I think _________________________________________.  What did you think?

  1. I want to talk about the part on page 21 where Steve Jobs father was kind of into electronics and I think that Steve Jobs might've found some interest in it. Then he decided that he wanted to carry on with it. Now he started his own company and was making millions. What do you think?

    1. I reread that section, and I think that his father might have gotten Steve into electronics. I wonder if Steve would've started Apple, or even gotten into electronics if it weren't for his dad.

    2. I reread that section of the book and I think he made a good decision learning more stuff from his father than any school he went to. Also, I think that his company that he started should make more than millions, it should almost make billions. It was such a great idea it deserves more green.

    3. I reread that part and I also wonder would steve Jobs be where he is today if his father didn't sacrifice so many things for steve

  2. I want to talk about the part where he got fired. I thought that was kind of significant because it was the company that he built from scratch, but somehow he was able to get fired which means, that he wasn't head of the company. They also mentioned that he started to create another company on his own that Apple would make an investment in. I think Apple should have waited for him to explain why he had all those other people lined up instead of dissing him again. (All on pages 128 - 135 ish)

    1. I kind of think that he should've just run the business himself instead of hiring someone to do it for him. I wonder if it came across his mind before that he could get fired from the company he created?

    2. that would be a good idea but like scott said steve doesn't have what it takes to even lead an apartment let alone the whole company

  3. I want to talk about Steve Jobs being fired from his own company. Wasn't he the owner, which makes him the manager/boss, right? So why couldn't have he just fired Scott, I never really liked him anyway. I think that Jobs should buy a larger percentage of Apple when he has enough money, so he can be the boss again. Even if he doesn't buy more of Apple, Apple should still want him back because he is the backbone of the company. He provides so many good ideas.

    1. I agree, I think that he made the company so he shouldn't be cut from his own creation. He also was really good with technology and stuff like that so why would they fire him?

  4. I want to talk about the part where they made their logo and then they changed it on page 60 and 82. I think it's weird because the logo they started with was a tree and a glowing apple above it. Then they changed it to what it is today an apple with a bite out of it.

    1. Yes, I think it's weird that they changed their logo so many times. I think they did it so they could have a more modern logo. I wonder why they chose to have the apple with the bite out of it though.

    2. I reread those parts and thought almost that exact same thing. The logo goes from a tree and an apple, to an apple being eaten. So, the second one is more creative but the first one goes with the company more. If they could combine them like putting the bitten apple on the tree, I think it'd be really cool.

    3. I also reread that part and I want to know why they changed the sign also. Was the sign not creative enough? I wonder why they made a apple with a bit out of it?

    4. I reread those pages and I also wonder if steve was so stubborn on it being the first logo why would they change it

  6. I want to talk about the part where steve jobs was working for atiri I thought that it was crazy that the boss of that company gave steve a job and supported him even though he was so stubborn,pg 50, I think the part that I thought was most interesting so far was finding out that steve jobs was that much of a troublemaker as a kid like when he let a snake lose in the classroom, pg 12

    1. I reread that part and realized he really was a trouble maker. Also, I think he got a job at Atari because the boss found potential behind his stubbornness. Letting a snake out in the classroom is a good idea of a prank.

    2. I also reread that part and I think that we was very stubborn but, he finally kind of gave up and let him be stubborn because he couldn't change it. Yes he was quite a naughty child and a good pranker.
