I am a Seal Team Six Warrior

We've been discussing the book with our table groups.  Now it's time to talk with your friends from other classes that are also reading this book.  Take some time to think about a part of the book that would make for a good discussion.  It can be any part from the beginning to the part you read for today.

Tell about the part you read, give your thoughts about it, and invite others to share their thoughts too.

Here are some discussion stems:

I want to talk about the part where __________________.  I thought _____________________.  What did you think?

The part that I thought was most interesting so far was _____________________________.  I think _________________________________________.  What did you think?

  1. I want to talk about hell week and why they did it. So they started hell week because they needed more training and discipline so they would get better. Page: 20-21.

    1. I agree. It was to get them in shape, and give the people in charge an idea of who the good soldiers were.

    3. I definitely agree. I also think too that the long brutal week of discipline was so they would be better and more disciplined in battle.

  2. I also want to talk about the part in the book where they went through hell week. I thought it was so interesting to learn about because I could never imagine going through training that
tough. What did you think? Page:20-28

    1. Yeah I would agree. It seemed like a lot of training and pain to go through. Especially because it was only the first step of training there was so much more after that.

    2. I agree with you. It would be very painful and what they felt like getting up and having to do all these different things they would have to do.

    3. Yes, I also thought this part of the book was very interesting. It also seemed like it would be very hard to get through.

    4. I agree that get through "The" week would be really hard and stressful.

    5. I agree with you. I think that it was very interesting alswell to learn about the very brutal week that the soldiers had to go through.

  3. I want to talk about the part where the seals are sent to Mogadishu for a mission. I thought it was interesting how there were boys as young as elementary level carrying guns with them. What did you think? Pages 85-93 so far.

    1. I think the situation where the boys carrying guns in elementary school is just flat out wrong. But, since they don't have much people to fight, they have to have the kids.

    2. I also thought this was interesting, but I suppose they want to protect their family and friends. They didn't really have a choice because there aren't many people down there.

    3. I think that the boy's were forced into a war that was not supposed to be their problem, and that is just how the world worked for them.

    4. I thought that that part was very interesting too. I thought that it was interesting because I thought that they could really hurt themselves or someone else, especially when they are only around 10 yrs of age, so why would anyone give one of those kids a gun?

    5. I agree. I also thought is was interesting that elementary school age boys were carrying guns around.

  4. I want to talk about the part where the main character went and helped the little boy with his infected legs. (page 97) I thought they did the right thing. Also why would they place landmines in the school playgrounds. What did you think?

    1. I agree that they did the right thing for the boy. And yeah, that's just dumb thinking to put landmines on a school playground.

    2. I agree they did the right thing. The reason they did that is they don't want kids growing up and fighting against them so they disable them.

  5. I want to talk about the part where Wasdin and his fellow soldiers were on a mission to make sure the ship was cleared, and there was the one disobedient boat crew member. Wasdin and his team were trying to be calm and be nice to him, and he throws the fire hydrant at Wasdin. I thought it was very mean, but funny at the same time. I also think that the disobedient guy was just misunderstanding their commands. What do you think?

    2. I think the same thing. It was mean for the guy to through the fire extinguisher at the guy, but was also funny because they called that guy fire extinguisher for the rest of that mission. I think he was just scared and didn't know what to do so he decided to fight back.

  6. I want to talk about the part where winston stalked the tray cart. They just went through hell week and they did not get much sleep or to eat. So they were were really confused. I thought it was funny when he stalked the tray table. What do you think?

  7. I want to talk about the part where he talked about his dad not spending time with him. I think its unfair that his father wouldn't do things with him because you need to learn things from his dad. The way his father treated him may be the way he treats his own kids.(page 11)

    1. I agree people really need to learn things from their dad.

    2. I agree that he would need to learn things from his dad, but I think they did spend time together. They spent time together while they were on the watermelon farm.

    3. I agree you learn things from your dad. But his dad didn't know how to be a father and he thought it was enough to put food on the table and teach discipline that's what he thought that was fatherhood

    4. Karli they did spend time together in the watermelon field working, but they never had fun together like hunting, fishing, or swimming.

    5. I agree, his father could have had a bigger impact on his life if he spent more time with him.

  8. I want to talk about the part when he was in sniper school. I thought that what they had to do to get through training to be a sniper was very interesting. What do you think? (Pages: 68- 84)

    2. I agree it seems really hard but I bet he felt good to be one of the best in his class.

    3. I agree some of the stuff they did seemed impossible. It was super cool to see that he passed the school and was able to move on to new missions and training.

    4. I agree. It would have to be really hard, but he must have felt great to be the best in his class.

    5. I agree even knowing that it's been hard already the sniper have to be ready to make there own ghillie netting.

  9. I wanted to talk about Hell week. (Pages 20-28). I thought that Hell week was to get the soldiers in shape for what may happen in the future, anything could happen in the future, and the Soldiers lives may depend on whether they are in shape or not to get out of a tough situation. This is probably what the drill Sargent's where thinking and that's why they pushed the soldiers so hard in hell week. What did you think?

  10. I don't agree. I think Hell Week was on showing them what would happen out on the battlefield. They also showed them what type of things they may have to do if something happened to them like getting stranded on a boat or something. They would need to learn a lot of things for those type of situations.

  11. I want to talk about Hell Week Where there might have been solider so were ready but they started Hell Week can couldn't get through and had to ring the bell. Through Hell Week Most soldiers are either ready or not for what is about to come at the and most ring the bell.
