Nazi Hunters

We've been discussing the book with our table groups.  Now it's time to talk with your friends from other classes that are also reading this book.  Take some time to think about a part of the book that would make for a good discussion.  It can be any part from the beginning to the part you read for today.

Tell about the part you read, give your thoughts about it, and invite others to share their thoughts too.

Here are some discussion stems:

I want to talk about the part where __________________.  I thought _____________________.  What did you think?

The part that I thought was most interesting so far was _____________________________.  I think _________________________________________.  What did you think?

  1. I want to talk about the part where Eichmann said he was guilty of killing anyone. I think Eichmann is not guilty because he did not kill anyone or say kill them. Do you think he is guilty?

    3. Yes because when Adolf Eichmann was captured by the team he said that he knows why he was there. If He knows why he is being kidnapped than he must think that he is guilty. Also, on page 144 the team asks Eichmann if he is going to stand trial in Israel and he says that he doesn't want to go.

    4. No. Eichmann knows what he did but he did not want to do it, get was just following orders. I bet if Eichmann said no; the Nazis would kill his family.

    5. I think that he is guilty because he set up the holocaust even though he did not kill anyone he was the one to set it up.

    6. I think that he was guilty because he killed million of Jews even if he didn't admit that. Also he said that he didn't kill anyone a couple times, he might be lying to protect his family. But at the beginning didn't Eichmann go against orders and murdered Jews?

  2. I would like to discuss the part where Eichmann is grabbed and put into the car. Page (33) I thought they would get caught or be seen by civilians, it was crazy how they went from prepared to making mistakes and taking risks in a matter of seconds. Am I missing any crucial details? What do you think?

    2. I guess that it was pretty crazy as well but if you think about the fact that the area they grabbed him in an area where there wasn't a lot of people. Also, they caught him at night too.

    3. I thought the same thing, at first when Aharoni was driving a limo it seemed really out of place . But when Eichmann was thrashing and scream I was sure he was going to get caught, even Eichmann's wife knew he got caught.

    4. I think it was crazy how no one saw it happen. And how they took the risk of waiting and not getting caught by the police when Eichmann was screaming.

  4. I would like to talk about the part in the book on page 148 where Adolf Eichmann says that in a way he loves Jews. I really don't think he loves them at all but is just trying to tell the team that he isn't guilty but in a different way.

    1. I agree with you. I think what Eichmann was trying to say was he likes Jews but was just following orders. It was Eichmann or the Jews.

    2. I think that he was lying so they would let him go and leave him alone.

    3. I think he said that he loved Jews because he thought there was time to not look guilty of mass murder. Also he said that he didn't kill anyone so maybe he loved to take Jews away, he said that he wanted a country of just Jews.

  5. I want to talk about the part on page 137-139 where they are questioning Eichmann. I don't understand why Eichmann didn't confess at first, he said that once he was in the car he knew the Israelis had taken him. Why did he wait for a long time to say his real name, he had said his son's name and a lot about his son, even saying that he didn't want his children to lie, for him. I'm just overall confused about what and why he said those stuff. What do you thing?

    1. I think that at first he was thinking he could persuade the team that he isn't Eichmann. But then he decided he wasn't going to escape.

    2. I think that he waited so long because he was told to be quiet and he was hoping that the integrator was just going to let up. I think that the interrogator asked about his family just to break him down.

  6. I want to talk about the part where they captured Eichmann and they were shipping him off to Israel. They held him in captivity in a room, and he was wearing black-out goggles. They had guards shifting to guard Eichmanns room. I think that it was a good idea to have him wear the goggles and then have guards watching over him so then he wouldn't escape. What do you think.

    1. I think it was a good idea to have him wear black out goggles. Because if he didn't have them on he could found a way to escape.

    2. I agree. The goggles were to prevent him from seeing anything like an escape route or the door. The guards were on shifts and sometimes asked him questions. I also thought the security was a bit extreme and all the precautions they took were unnecessary, but I can see why they were so extreme.

    3. I agree with that too. Because he wore the goggles at all times they avoided him running because you can't run very well with goggles on that you can't see out of.

  7. The page number is 142 and 143

  8. I want to talk about the part where they were sitting waiting for Eichmann and when he did not show up 126-130. I can't imagine how scared they were because he was alway on a schedule. And they put so much time into location him. I would have freaked out a lot more than they did. What would you have done?

    1. I think I would freak out and get really angry. I would get angry because if he moved, all the time spent into finding Eichmann and his house. And I would freak out because if was waiting in the car for a long time, the cops would start to wonder why I just sitting there. They would start to question me and might give me a ticket.

    2. I would be mad because at the time they didn't know if Eichmann had found out that they were on to Eichmann or not. Also, even if Adolf Eichmann didn't know that the team was going to kidnap him would have to be a angry time just standing around and having no one show up.
