The Boys Who Challenged Hitler

We've been discussing the book with our table groups.  Now it's time to talk with your friends from other classes that are also reading this book.  Take some time to think about a part of the book that would make for a good discussion.  It can be any part from the beginning to the part you read for today.

Tell about the part you read, give your thoughts about it, and invite others to share their thoughts too.

Here are some discussion stems:

I want to talk about the part where __________________.  I thought _____________________.  What did you think?

The part that I thought was most interesting so far was _____________________________.  I think _________________________________________.  What did you think?

  1. I want to talk about the part where they start the Nibe offensive and talk about how it goes against all of there rules but also goes with a couple of rules. But the thing is they had not actually listed the rules they talked about on page 78 because they had listed all there rules on page 76.So what i'm trying to say is none of the rules on page 78 are not on page 36.What do you think?
Also my favorite part is where they set the trains on fire.

  2. I want to talk about the part where they decided to use the Nazi symbol. Why did they choose that symbol and why did they use blue paint.

The part that I thought was most interesting was when they stole the machine gun. I think I would have checked to see if there was a magazine but they didn't.

  3. I want to talk about the part where Borge and the two other guys were going to blow up the tower with the soldiers in in on pages 78-81. I don't think they would have been able to kill the guys - especially after they talked with them. I know I wouldn't have been able to. What do you think?

    1. I disagree,I think that they could been kill them easy because the german did a lot of thing that the Danish people can't live the happy life in their country.

  4. I want to talk about the part where they think about killing a German soldier with a iron rod of some sort. But some club members object to it because in their rules the agreed not to kill anyone. But I think they should break the rules and ya now spice it up bit because German soldiers kill people everyday.

    1. I agree because I think that those german are awful. They could have kill them early then they did cause they made Danish into a worst country.

    2. I agree partly, They wanted to kill a german but if they were caught their sentence would be for a longer than it probably already was.But the Germans/Nazi have done terrible things, and some deserve to be killed but other do not.

    3. I think that is a good statement and I do think they should do it but not everyone agrees because they think there is a better way.

  5. I want to talk about the part where they play soccer and they kick the ball to the german car and stole the gun in page 48 to 59. I think they should not stole those gun because If they get caught they could get in a lot of trouble.

    1. I see where you are coming from, but I believe yes they would get in a lot of trouble, but I feel if they never stole that gun they would never feel the pride they do now with the gun.

    2. I disagree because if they want to become a bigger and better club they would have to increase their weaponry, so they can do more stuff.

    3. They needed to to start their arsenal.

    4. I think they needed to start their collection so they could be ready at any moment.

  6. I want to talk about where they got arrested in page 90-97, I thought that it just jumped right to that. The boy was standing right were down were the guns lead, he just told them where they were. I would have been more reluctant to give up and talk. What do you think?

    1. I agree, because why would they just give up so easily because they could have found a way out of that because they are only teenagers.

  7. I want to talk about the part where burn down the Fuch Construction company on page 41-43. I thought it was a big step in showing the Nazis a piece of their mind, but I also thought it was kinda rude because it says nothing about how this company did anything to these boys.

    1. I disagree because the company should caught them back and do something to them so they are not doing that again so that is my thinking.

    2. I disagree because they were trying to start somewhere and that was one of the bases for The germans that they took over. The boys did have reason to do so.

    3. The company was helping the germans thats why they burned it down.

  8. I also like the part when they stole the machine gun and I do think they should've checked for a magazine.

    2. I agree they should have just took all the bags.

    3. I disagree because they had to be quick , and the german solider was coming back and they didn't want to be caught.

    4. I agree its pretty cool, but since they were in a Germans barrack, they didn't have much time. That's why I think they did not check for a magazine.
