I chose this book, because I like presidential history. I've always liked learning about George Washington, but I never really learned what he has actually done in the war.
I chose this book because I am interested in the Revolutionary War. I like to learn about spies in particular, so this book was perfect. I also did my Revolutionary War topic on spies in the Revolutionary War.
I was confused when they kept talking about "Dinwiddie". After trying to figure who he was, I looked him up and found out that he was colonial governor, that had contact with George Washington.
So I did my research and found that new france was a territory that is now mostly in canada (That is why some canadians speak french) <:)Relieved Face(:> (Or once you think about it looks like a bird of some sort)
I was confused when Washington called the indians chasing them french indians. I was wondering if that meant that the indians had a deal with the french or something like that.
I was confused about who Benjamin Church was. When I looked him up, i found out that he was a very rich physician. Then, he became one of the leaders of The Boston Tea Party.
I got confused, and I know this is a little weird, when they said that where the Allegheny and Monongahela rivers met that it was "quite impassable for horses. Does it mean that it was just too strong or deep of a river or that they were making excuses so they couldn't go that way because they were hiding something

On page 9 they talked about why near by native americans hated french people for a good reason, they captured some of their people, killed them, and then ate them. My question is why did the Frenchmen eat Native Americans?
On page 56, they talk about the clothesline code. And how they would use a black petticoat to tell if someone had arrived. And then, the white handkerchiefs would tell what cove the person was in. I was wondering how they came up with the code and why they chose to do that instead of another simpler code?
To be kept a secret from spies, the code may not have been that hard for them considering that they made it. An example is hieroglyphics,Hieroglyphics is challenging for most people but the Egyptians knew it pretty well.
To Jadens Discussion Post: I agree with Lydia but I also think that the French found out that these Indians foud some secret info and ate them to keep it a secret
I got a little more knowledge from reading the book. I had no idea that Paul Revere had another man, William Dawes, with him riding. Also, I didn't realize that Revere was captured. Was anyone else captured in the same incident. It might say later in the book but who knows!
Yeah! I didnt know that either! Whenever you hear about Paul Revere it sounds like he does it himself, and not with another person! Why dont they say about the other person?
My question was like the same as Jaden's. They said they killed and ate them. Why would they do that? Thats gross! Did they do it just to say like look we're bigger than them or something?
You know,I thought that they ate them because in history, before the revolutionary war, there was the french and native american war. I think they did this because they still feared them and thought they were a threat.
I think they would do it because they obviously didn't like them or respect them. They might have gt fed uo with them and that might have been there solution.
I was wondering why the british wouldn't ambush Brewster like they were talking about. If they had a good plan then they should have gone through with it.
I don't think that the neighbors have any right to threaten him. Plus, He wasn't even at the house when they said they were going to torch it. They were going to punish his family for what he did.
Mine is sort of like Jaden's. Why would his neighbors threaten him because they found out he was a spy. It wouldn't cause them any harm so why should they care?

I was gonna say about the codes like Blayne said. I was wondering like why would they use different letters or numbers. If they use those, you have to remember all of them.. And if you mess up, thats not gonna be a good thing!!!
I was surprised when Washington was able to send the British out of Philadelphia by telling them a lie. I thought it was really cool, but I still was wondering how did he do that?
I wondered why people would have these codes in these weird objects,I mean a silver ball that this guy had to eat, that seems a little uncalled for. What do you guys think, was the fact that this guy had to eat the silver ball uncalled for?
I think it was really weird how that guy had to eat that silver ball then take pills to throw it up. I would have prefered to carry messages in the buttons on my coat.
but once you think about it,the guy was not planing on having to swallow it,he did not know, poor guy. Feel sorry because he had to regurgitate and swallow it twice.
I have another thought, what was the coolest (or uniuqe) way that the spies deliverd messages or the coolest code.My favorite was when they had the mother sew the note in this boys Jacket.
I was confused when they talked about the Culper Ring. They probably explained it somewhere else in the book or I haven't even gotten to it yet. Anybody have any ideas?
I chose this book, because I like presidential history. I've always liked learning about George Washington, but I never really learned what he has actually done in the war.
ReplyDeleteI chose this book because I am interested in the Revolutionary War. I like to learn about spies in particular, so this book was perfect. I also did my Revolutionary War topic on spies in the Revolutionary War.
ReplyDeleteI chose this book because I like learning about wars. I want to learn how they won the war.
ReplyDeleteI was confused when they kept talking about "Dinwiddie". After trying to figure who he was, I looked him up and found out that he was colonial governor, that had contact with George Washington.
ReplyDeleteI was also and when I kept reading on it never told us maybe they will tell us later on in the book. Looking it up was a good idea Ashley.
DeleteI was confused too. I wasn't sure if I had missed something or not. Looking it up was a good idea.
DeleteI was confused about when they said "New France".Is it a city, state,WHERE IS IT!! >:( frustrated faces ):<
ReplyDeleteSo I did my research and found that new france was a territory that is now mostly in canada (That is why some canadians speak french)
Delete<:)Relieved Face(:> (Or once you think about it looks like a bird of some sort)
Wait,is this non fiction?
ReplyDeleteI was confused when he said it was twice his weight of Vermin such as Lice Fleas Ec.
ReplyDeleteI was confused when Washington called the indians chasing them french indians. I was wondering if that meant that the indians had a deal with the french or something like that.
ReplyDeleteIt meant that they were probably Indians on the french's side
DeleteYeah were they like Indians that were french or was it just because they were on french land that was confusing.
DeleteI was confused about who Benjamin Church was. When I looked him up, i found out that he was a very rich physician. Then, he became one of the leaders of The Boston Tea Party.
ReplyDeleteI got confused, and I know this is a little weird, when they said that where the Allegheny and Monongahela rivers met that it was "quite impassable for horses. Does it mean that it was just too strong or deep of a river or that they were making excuses so they couldn't go that way because they were hiding something
ReplyDeleteIt could be both, that and people probably did not know at the time if horses could swim!
DeleteI think that the current was really strong in the book and thats why the horses couldn't go across the river to get to the other side.
DeleteI'm a pretty sure that it just means that the current is to strong and that it is too deep for the horses to cross.
DeleteI chose this book because, when we did the Revolutionary War project I had done it on the spies of the war and that really interested me
ReplyDeleteI wanted to read this book because it sounded interesting and so far it is.
ReplyDeleteI thought it was really gross in that part of the book when Seneca the chief said he hated the french because they killed cooked and eat his father.
ReplyDeleteI know! I thought it was really gross too!! I made a annotation for it! Like who would do that, eating and killing his father! Like wow!
DeleteOkay, I'm confused about this Gage guy, is he on the American or British side??

DeleteYeah, I think this is a more secure way. Even though someone might eventually find out the code, it worked at the time
DeleteTo Jadens Discussion Post:
DeleteI agree with Lydia but I also think that the French found out that these Indians foud some secret info and ate them to keep it a secret
I also think that the french didn't like indians and that maybe they had low food supplies so they ate the indians.
DeleteI agree with Lydia. I think they did it to show what will happen if they mess with them.
DeleteBut I think they also did it to show who's bigger/better.
I got a little more knowledge from reading the book. I had no idea that Paul Revere had another man, William Dawes, with him riding. Also, I didn't realize
ReplyDeletethat Revere was captured. Was anyone else captured in the same incident. It might say later in the book but who knows!
I didn't know that either. That is actually very interesting and cool especially because everyone thinks that Paul Revere rode alone.
DeleteI didn't know that Paul revere had another man either. Everyone always talks about it like he's the only one who was there.
DeleteYeah! I didnt know that either! Whenever you hear about Paul Revere it sounds like he does it himself, and not with another person! Why dont they say about the other person?
DeleteI didnt know that either! If he had another man with him why dont they tell us about that!
DeleteMy question was like the same as Jaden's. They said they killed and ate them. Why would they do that? Thats gross! Did they do it just to say like look we're bigger than them or something?
ReplyDeleteI think that is only part of it and the other reason was that the french didn't like them and had little food.
DeleteYou know,I thought that they ate them because in history, before the revolutionary war, there was the french and native american war. I think they did this because they still feared them and thought they were a threat.
DeleteI think they just did it to look powerful over everyone else. Also, what Jaden said, they thought of them as a threat.
DeleteI think they would do it because they obviously didn't like them or respect them. They might have gt fed uo with them and that might have been there solution.
DeleteI think that maybe the french did that to tell everyone "HEY! Don't mess with us, we eat indians."
DeleteI was wondering why the british wouldn't ambush Brewster like they were talking about. If they had a good plan then they should have gone through with it.
ReplyDeleteYeah, if they take the time to come up with it. Why not do it?
DeleteIf they had a great plan then why not finish what you start.
DeleteI have a question, do you think it is right for John Honeyman to be threatened by his neighbors because they found out that he was a spy?
ReplyDeleteI don't think that the neighbors have any right to threaten him. Plus, He wasn't even at the house when they said they were going to torch it. They were going to punish his family for what he did.
DeleteI was wondering the same thing. I mean it shouldn't concern them so why should they care?
DeleteMine is sort of like Jaden's. Why would his neighbors threaten him because they found out he was a spy. It wouldn't cause them any harm so why should they care?
ReplyDeleteWhat do you guys think about that poor guy who had to swallow and regurgitate the silver ball because personally I felt sorry for him!

ReplyDeleteWhy would they use codes with number and dashes. Example from the book. I 293.9.7 to C__t.
ReplyDeleteThats what I was gonna say. Because that could go bad really fast. By easily saying something wrong.
DeleteYeah, even if it's the decoder's fault, they might not realize they did something wrong until it was too late.
DeleteI got confused on that too, it could possibly be a different form of Morse Code
DeleteI was gonna say about the codes like Blayne said.
ReplyDeleteI was wondering like why would they use different letters or numbers. If they use those, you have to remember all of them.. And if you mess up, thats not gonna be a good thing!!!
If you mess you could send them the wrong code and theu might do something wrong to cause them their death.
DeleteYeah. They might mess up and send them the wrong code. So the person that gets the code might do something wrong that could lead to death.
DeleteBut didn't they have a code breaker or something. I mean without it,it would have been pointless to even sent these letters
DeleteI think that Jaden is right because they had normal things to do but a code breakers life is to just break codes.
DeleteI was surprised when Washington was able to send the British out of Philadelphia by telling them a lie. I thought it was really cool, but I still was wondering how did he do that?
ReplyDeleteI say that he did it with the guts inside him and told a lie.The fact that he was not afraid to do this to me makes him a respectable president!
DeleteI think when he didn't it he was thinking about the future of the country and that probably gave him more drive to tell the British the lie
DeleteYeah. How could them have believed him? I mean it was a good lie but why would they even do that?
ReplyDeleteI wondered why people would have these codes in these weird objects,I mean a silver ball that this guy had to eat, that seems a little uncalled for. What do you guys think, was the fact that this guy had to eat the silver ball uncalled for?
ReplyDeleteI thought that was weird too. They have ways of getting it out of you. It really probably isn't going to help anything.
DeleteI think it was really weird how that guy had to eat that silver ball then take pills to throw it up. I would have prefered to carry messages in the buttons on my coat.
DeleteWas it possibly a form of torture? It is a possiblity
Deletebut once you think about it,the guy was not planing on having to swallow it,he did not know, poor guy. Feel sorry because he had to regurgitate and swallow it twice.
DeleteI have another thought, what was the coolest (or uniuqe) way that the spies deliverd messages or the coolest code.My favorite was when they had the mother sew the note in this boys Jacket.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite was the clothesline code.
DeleteMy favorite way that the spies communicated with Washington was when Anna Strong hung her laundry in a code.
DeleteI also liked the clothes line code that one to me was the coolest.
DeleteWhat I wondered is why on some of these pages that there were three stars,is it like a new subject or something?
ReplyDeleteYeah I wonder if anyone knows maybe they are just there to be there.
DeleteI was surprised about the book code. It seems like a good idea. But if you think about it, it could go wrong really fast.
ReplyDeleteThats what I was thinking!! Like Blayne said, it could cause a death, or anything.
DeleteI was confused when they talked about the Culper Ring. They probably explained it somewhere else in the book or I haven't even gotten to it yet. Anybody have any ideas?
ReplyDeleteThe culper ring was a group of spies that was lead from george washington, they call this that because culper ring was Washington's spy name.
DeleteOh yeah that makes a whole lot more sense now. I didn't get it either.
Deleteon page 133 what does it mean when he says he has an visible army and a invisible army? does that mean that his mind is part of the invisible army?
ReplyDelete
