  1. I chose this book, because I like presidential history. I've always liked learning about George Washington, but I never really learned what he has actually done in the war.

  2. I chose this book because I am interested in the Revolutionary War. I like to learn about spies in particular, so this book was perfect. I also did my Revolutionary War topic on spies in the Revolutionary War.

  4. I was confused when they kept talking about "Dinwiddie". After trying to figure who he was, I looked him up and found out that he was colonial governor, that had contact with George Washington.

    1. I was also and when I kept reading on it never told us maybe they will tell us later on in the book. Looking it up was a good idea Ashley.

    2. I was confused too. I wasn't sure if I had missed something or not. Looking it up was a good idea.

    1. So I did my research and found that new france was a territory that is now mostly in canada (That is why some canadians speak french)
<:)Relieved Face(:> (Or once you think about it looks like a bird of some sort)

  6. Wait,is this non fiction?

  7. I was confused when he said it was twice his weight of Vermin such as Lice Fleas Ec.

  8. I was confused when Washington called the indians chasing them french indians. I was wondering if that meant that the indians had a deal with the french or something like that.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It meant that they were probably Indians on the french's side

      Delete
    2. Yeah were they like Indians that were french or was it just because they were on french land that was confusing.

  9. I was confused about who Benjamin Church was. When I looked him up, i found out that he was a very rich physician. Then, he became one of the leaders of The Boston Tea Party.

  10. I got confused, and I know this is a little weird, when they said that where the Allegheny and Monongahela rivers met that it was "quite impassable for horses. Does it mean that it was just too strong or deep of a river or that they were making excuses so they couldn't go that way because they were hiding something

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It could be both, that and people probably did not know at the time if horses could swim!

      Delete
    2. I think that the current was really strong in the book and thats why the horses couldn't go across the river to get to the other side.

      Delete
    3. I'm a pretty sure that it just means that the current is to strong and that it is too deep for the horses to cross.

  11. I chose this book because, when we did the Revolutionary War project I had done it on the spies of the war and that really interested me

  12. I wanted to read this book because it sounded interesting and so far it is.

  13. I thought it was really gross in that part of the book when Seneca the chief said he hated the french because they killed cooked and eat his father.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I know! I thought it was really gross too!! I made a annotation for it! Like who would do that, eating and killing his father! Like wow!

  14. Okay, I'm confused about this Gage guy, is he on the American or British side??

  16. On page 9 they talked about why near by native americans hated french people for a good reason, they captured some of their people, killed them, and then ate them. My question is why did the Frenchmen eat Native Americans?

    1. It might have been because they didn't like them. Or because they were trying to show what they would do to other people if they messed with them.

      Delete
    2. On page 56, they talk about the clothesline code. And how they would use a black petticoat to tell if someone had arrived. And then, the white handkerchiefs would tell what cove the person was in. I was wondering how they came up with the code and why they chose to do that instead of another simpler code?

      Delete
    3. To be kept a secret from spies, the code may not have been that hard for them considering that they made it. An example is hieroglyphics,Hieroglyphics is challenging for most people but the Egyptians knew it pretty well.

      Delete
    4. Yeah, I think this is a more secure way. Even though someone might eventually find out the code, it worked at the time

      Delete
    5. To Jadens Discussion Post:
I agree with Lydia but I also think that the French found out that these Indians foud some secret info and ate them to keep it a secret

      Delete
    6. I also think that the french didn't like indians and that maybe they had low food supplies so they ate the indians.

      Delete
    7. I agree with Lydia. I think they did it to show what will happen if they mess with them.
But I think they also did it to show who's bigger/better.

  17. I got a little more knowledge from reading the book. I had no idea that Paul Revere had another man, William Dawes, with him riding. Also, I didn't realize
that Revere was captured. Was anyone else captured in the same incident. It might say later in the book but who knows!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I didn't know that either. That is actually very interesting and cool especially because everyone thinks that Paul Revere rode alone.

      Delete
    2. I didn't know that Paul revere had another man either. Everyone always talks about it like he's the only one who was there.

      Delete
    3. Yeah! I didnt know that either! Whenever you hear about Paul Revere it sounds like he does it himself, and not with another person! Why dont they say about the other person?

      Delete
    4. I didnt know that either! If he had another man with him why dont they tell us about that!

      Delete
  18. My question was like the same as Jaden's. They said they killed and ate them. Why would they do that? Thats gross! Did they do it just to say like look we're bigger than them or something?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I think that is only part of it and the other reason was that the french didn't like them and had little food.

      Delete
    2. You know,I thought that they ate them because in history, before the revolutionary war, there was the french and native american war. I think they did this because they still feared them and thought they were a threat.

      Delete
    3. I think they just did it to look powerful over everyone else. Also, what Jaden said, they thought of them as a threat.

      Delete
    4. I think they would do it because they obviously didn't like them or respect them. They might have gt fed uo with them and that might have been there solution.

      Delete
    5. I think that maybe the french did that to tell everyone "HEY! Don't mess with us, we eat indians."

      Delete
  19. I was wondering why the british wouldn't ambush Brewster like they were talking about. If they had a good plan then they should have gone through with it.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yeah, if they take the time to come up with it. Why not do it?

      Delete
    2. If they had a great plan then why not finish what you start.

      Delete
  20. I have a question, do you think it is right for John Honeyman to be threatened by his neighbors because they found out that he was a spy?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I don't think that the neighbors have any right to threaten him. Plus, He wasn't even at the house when they said they were going to torch it. They were going to punish his family for what he did.

      Delete
    2. I was wondering the same thing. I mean it shouldn't concern them so why should they care?

      Delete
  21. Mine is sort of like Jaden's. Why would his neighbors threaten him because they found out he was a spy. It wouldn't cause them any harm so why should they care?

  22. What do you guys think about that poor guy who had to swallow and regurgitate the silver ball because personally I felt sorry for him!

  23. Round Two. Comment about something that shocked or surprised you in the second half of the book. Write it in a way that will allow others to discuss this idea/event with you. Reply to at least 3 other comments (if possible). All must be done by Jan 23rd. There will be no lates with this blog.

  24. Why would they use codes with number and dashes. Example from the book. I 293.9.7 to C__t.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Thats what I was gonna say. Because that could go bad really fast. By easily saying something wrong.

      Delete
    2. Yeah, even if it's the decoder's fault, they might not realize they did something wrong until it was too late.

      Delete
    3. I got confused on that too, it could possibly be a different form of Morse Code

      Delete
  25. I was gonna say about the codes like Blayne said.
I was wondering like why would they use different letters or numbers. If they use those, you have to remember all of them.. And if you mess up, thats not gonna be a good thing!!!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. If you mess you could send them the wrong code and theu might do something wrong to cause them their death.

      Delete
    2. Yeah. They might mess up and send them the wrong code. So the person that gets the code might do something wrong that could lead to death.

      Delete
    3. But didn't they have a code breaker or something. I mean without it,it would have been pointless to even sent these letters

      Delete
    4. I think that Jaden is right because they had normal things to do but a code breakers life is to just break codes.

      Delete
  26. I was surprised when Washington was able to send the British out of Philadelphia by telling them a lie. I thought it was really cool, but I still was wondering how did he do that?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I say that he did it with the guts inside him and told a lie.The fact that he was not afraid to do this to me makes him a respectable president!

      Delete
    2. I think when he didn't it he was thinking about the future of the country and that probably gave him more drive to tell the British the lie

      Delete
  27. Yeah. How could them have believed him? I mean it was a good lie but why would they even do that?

    ReplyDelete
  28. I wondered why people would have these codes in these weird objects,I mean a silver ball that this guy had to eat, that seems a little uncalled for. What do you guys think, was the fact that this guy had to eat the silver ball uncalled for?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I thought that was weird too. They have ways of getting it out of you. It really probably isn't going to help anything.

      Delete
    2. I think it was really weird how that guy had to eat that silver ball then take pills to throw it up. I would have prefered to carry messages in the buttons on my coat.

      Delete
    3. Was it possibly a form of torture? It is a possiblity

      Delete
    4. but once you think about it,the guy was not planing on having to swallow it,he did not know, poor guy. Feel sorry because he had to regurgitate and swallow it twice.

  29. I have another thought, what was the coolest (or uniuqe) way that the spies deliverd messages or the coolest code.My favorite was when they had the mother sew the note in this boys Jacket.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. My favorite was the clothesline code.

      Delete
    2. My favorite way that the spies communicated with Washington was when Anna Strong hung her laundry in a code.

      Delete
    3. I also liked the clothes line code that one to me was the coolest.

  30. What I wondered is why on some of these pages that there were three stars,is it like a new subject or something?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yeah I wonder if anyone knows maybe they are just there to be there.

      Delete
  31. I was surprised about the book code. It seems like a good idea. But if you think about it, it could go wrong really fast.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Thats what I was thinking!! Like Blayne said, it could cause a death, or anything.

      Delete
  32. I was confused when they talked about the Culper Ring. They probably explained it somewhere else in the book or I haven't even gotten to it yet. Anybody have any ideas?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The culper ring was a group of spies that was lead from george washington, they call this that because culper ring was Washington's spy name.

      Delete
    2. Oh yeah that makes a whole lot more sense now. I didn't get it either.

  33. on page 133 what does it mean when he says he has an visible army and a invisible army? does that mean that his mind is part of the invisible army?
