  1. I chose "Beyond Courage" because it had a cool title. I also want to learn more about the Holocaust and more that happened during that era.

  2. I chose "Beyond Courage" because before I had read a different book that told a few stories about Jews and there life during the Holocaust. This book has even more stories and information about it so I chose this book, because the stories were really interesting to me in the other book.

  4. I am confused about why Marianne Prager sent her sister Ilse away, instead of leaving herself. I get that she wanted her sister to leave, so she would live but still.

    1. She said she wants at least one of her family members to survive. Plus Marianne is told old to go to the place Ilse is going.

  5. One thing that I was confused about, was why Germany was making all these people who wanted to leave have to do so much and lose so much or nearly all of there money? Did Germany not trust anybody to leave? I also found it sad that, if a jew family does get the chance to leave, they get to leave with no money....if they have any.

  6. I am still confused about why Hitler hates Jews I know he blamed them for everything but I still don't get what he has against them. Why dose he hate them if He grew up in a Jewish family???

  7. I thought that it was crazy that none of the countries would take any of the Jews so they had no were to go! If I was the leader of a country I would at least take some of them so they had some were to go for a while. What would you do or think?

  8. I think that it's amazing how some non Jewish adults stepped up to the challenge of saving thousands of Jewish children's lives. I think that I would try to save them, because even if I were to die saving the kids, I would have already saved more than what I'm worth. Would you have the nerve to save the Jewish children?

    1. Yes I would because it would be the right to do and you would be honored in time to come. I also would feel bad about leaving them behind to die because they have a life to live too.

    2. Yes, to me it would seem like it would be more of a help to save as many children while you die, rather than not do anything and just die.

  9. I was really amazed at how about 700 Jew people took one path for about 2 weeks in mud and grass that was up to their necks, to an island to seek shelter from the German. It was even more crazy to find out that less than 10 people died, and a few lost that were all later found along the way. Would you do all that just to get to the island and not have any food or shelter, with the German hunting you? I would.

    1. I would too. If it meant living and getting a place to stay sooner rather than later away from the Nazis, I think I would.

    2. Yes I would because living on an island would be a lot better that getting killed by Germans besides maybe you could somehow get out of the country and find your family

  10. Yes, If I were a leader I would take in at least 10,000 Jews, if not that, then more. It's not fair to do that kind of thing to them. On the other hand, you risk putting your country's citizens in danger, and that would not be fair to them either. I'm not sure.

  12. The germans put peepholes in the gas chamberes so that they could make sure that the people in the gas chambers were dead but what I don't understand is that wouldn't the gas get in to the peepholes and kill the germans looking into the peepholes die to because the gas go to them?

    1. Yes I think that they more than likely wore gas masks to prevent them from dying.

    2. I was also thinking the same thing about fakeing my death. I would try to to hold my breath as long as I could until the air was clear again and try to escape to a house and try to find someone to help me.

  13. I would feel guilty too. It's not like they didn't know what they were doing. They knew that they were killing children, adults, and their families!

  14. Something that surprised be throughout the book is that the Jews made a lot of sacrifices not only for them, but for other people as well, when one guy left his father to die so he could try and stop the war. Or when one Jewish girl left her mother to die also. It was pretty sad, I think because they knew that they were never gonna see their families again because they knew either they, themselves would die, or the family members would die. It is really sad....

    1. I agree I think it is horrible how they did that and how the laybor camps feed the jews saw dust bread and soup that smelt like dead animal it's just wrong!

    2. Yes, I would be horrified myself I had to go through what they went through. But, they had to do it so Germany could not be the country they would have been without Jews. They pretty much stopped Germany from almost destroying everybody.

    3. Yes I agree. They are humans NOT animals. They at LEAST should be fed edible food.

    4. Ya, I know sawdust soup sounds very bad, but like how do you even make that?

    5. I think its really bad I did some research and I found that Nazis made Jews use soap made out of the fat of other victims, I think its horrible what the Nazis did.
