  1. Part of Book: Chapter 1

My thoughts: I was thinking why are they talking about parachuting, shouldn't they be talking about the Triple Nickles? They were talking about how it felt to jump of the plane and how you were supposed to do it. They practically put you in the place of the parachutist. It showed picture of people actually doing it. I have to say it felt cool to feel like you were actually parachuting but what did that have to do with the book?

Question for you: Why do you think Chapter 1 was about parachuting?

    1. Maddie,
I believe Chapter 1 was about parachuting because throughout the book, there is some mentioning about the "process."

    2. I think that it was talking about parachuting because that's what paratrooping does in the process, they have to jump out of a plane to get to their destination.

    3. I thought the same way when I first started to read the book, but as you can see now, that part of the book was important, and helps us now understand the book. What I learned is that, what seems to not make sense, and is weird, is a huge part of the book, and the topic.

    4. I think it talks about being a parachutist so that you can understand the book more. I think that she did this to also see how scary and how brave you have to be to jump out of a plane.

  2. Part of Book: Chapter 3 (I'm Going to Tell you a Secret)

My Thoughts: He shouldn't have been able to have a paratrooper group of African American soldiers after he did something wrong.

Question for You: Do you agree or disagree with weather he should've gotten to be a commander or not?

    1. I disagree. After, he did something wrong he should have a punishment but instead he gets to become the commander. Some other person deserves that job . The other person that deserves that job didn't do anything wrong, he was probably was going to get the job.

    2. Kendall,
I actually do believe he shouldn't have been commander. ( Also, it's whether, not weather c: )

    3. I think he shouldn't of gotten commander because if you do something wrong you should be punished like downgrade him or kick him out for a couple of weeks. If he messes up again kick him out for a couple of months. If he does it again kick him out forever, and don't put him back on the paratrooping squad or what ever they call it.

  3. Part of Book:Chapter 1-2

My Thoughts: When I first started to read this book, it started out with parachutes.I was really confused, and I thought "This does not make sense for this book, but I kept on reading to chapter two,and it still didn't make sense to me. I went on in the book, and slowly it made more sense to me, and I understood why it started out with that, and that sometimes things that don't really make sense of the book, is a large part of the book.

Question for you: Did any of you feel the same, about the book?

    1. Yes, I really didn't understand why they were talking about parachutes when they should talk about something that involves the triple nickles. I think that the author should just talk about parachuting for like 3 to 4 pages not 1 whole chapter.

    2. At first, I was really confused as to why the author wanted us to pretend that we were in a plane, about to go parachuting. But as I read further into the book, I understood why the author wanted us to feel how paratroopers felt.

    3. Yes, at first I really didn't understand why she would put that in there and it was really confusing to read. Now I understand more of why she did but I am still confused about why she put some things in there, like the different advertising used for black people.

    4. I still feel like that NOW in the book. Like at one point we're talking about the 555 and another we are talking about a Japanese boy getting his knives taken away from him. Although I feel the rest of the story makes more sense later on, I still think sometimes it is like a grandpa talking and then going about something else randomly.

  4. I believe the same thing. I think some of the white people had access to guns and decided to use them against the whites to have an advantage. They probably got into a fight about segreagation and that blacks should be equal.

  5. Part of Book: Chapter 2

My Thoughts: Why didn't the whites clean and help do what the blacks had to do instead of the blacks doing all the work. Shouldn't there be like a fair share for the whites and blacks. I think that whites and blacks should both be equally in war.

Question for you: Do you think blacks should be in the same amount of war instead of just cleaning everything, should whites and blacks have the same amount of cooking and cleaning?

    1. I think it was because of the time, people have still thought that African Americans should still be treated the same as in the 1800's. I know it's crazy how people wouldn't get over it when it's been about a decade! I still think it's unfair but that's my best guess why. They didn't know the potential.

    2. Yes I do think that, that wasn't fair. And also the blacks trained a lot, and the whites didn't train as hard. But back then, they didn't like the blacks, and thought that they were weird and different, which I don't agree with. African Americans should of been treated better, and it took a really long time for them to figure that out.

  6. I want to talk about the part in Chapter 6-7. They are finally sending the Triple Nickles somewhere, but it's not where they think. The military sends them on a mission to put out fires instead of war. I thought that they should have let the Triple Nickles go to war, what they were training for, instead of fires started by the Japanese. It was really depressing because a lot of them thought they were finally going to fight. Do you think they will actually go to war, or stay fighting fires?

    2. Well the book and the history event is about an underdog story. Honestly, I don't know what will happen but that's my guess. Every story has to have a happy ending and I'm pretty sure this story isn't an exception.

  7. Arora,
I read your comment and, that makes me think. Maybe there were women involved. When I was reading that part of the book, I too, did think about how the blacks managed to actually do that. But yes, I do agree with you.
