As you read about Justin, be thinking about what one of the subplots of the book may be. When you are done, share your thoughts about the section as well as your inference about the subplot of the book. Reply to each others' comments.
I think the subplot is Via almost seems embarrassed to be around Auggie. Maybe not embarrassed but like doesn't want people to stare at her while see with him. Like she didnt want to tell her parents about the play, because then they would have to take Auggie.
ReplyDeleteJustin seems like a nice/smart kid. I think what made me think he was a nice kid was when him and Jack were walking down to the subway and he went to go get gum from the store and then the boys were being mean to him. And he stuck up for him! Even tho hes not his brother or anyhting he stuck up for him!!
I feel bad for saying this but, I wouldn't want him to come to my school play.... I just wouldn't want what he looks like to define me.

DeleteJenna you have a good point. But its pretty mean that kids would make fun of her for having a deformed brother. I don't think I would want him to go to the play because then I would probably be judged because he looks like that.
DeleteI think Justin is nice and it's nice that he was sticking up for Auggie. It's really cool he got the lead role in the play, too.
ReplyDeleteI think the sub topic is like what Ashley said.. That Olivia was kind of embarrassed to have people stare at her and Auggie..

DeleteI don't think she is embarrassed about Auggie I think it's that she just doesn't want to be defined as Olivia: The girl with the deformed brother.

DeleteI think Justin is pretty nice. He cares about what Via thinks & tries to help Jack about his problem in school about him being friends with Auggie & getting bullied about it.
ReplyDeleteI think the sub-plot of the story is that Via doesn't want Auggie to come to her play because she doesn't want every one of her friends to know that she has a brother has Treacher Collins Syndrome, so she didn't tell her parents about her play & now she thinks that she's a bad person
I don't understand why Via is becoming embarrassed of August now though. Why is it now? Is it because she's in High School? Does she care more about her reputation than her family?

ReplyDeleteJustin seems like a super nice guy. What his said to Julian was nice too, but i think Jack Will now just get attacked for it.
I do kinda think that they might be mean to him 'cause he "needed" a person to stick up for him. Even when he didnt tell him to, Justin just did it!
DeleteYeah, now when Jack Will goes to school the next day Julian will bully him more because Justin stood up and said leave Jack alone.
DeleteYeah, I think Jack will get teased more, because he had to get someone to help him. I don't know why Via is just now becoming embarrassed by august though. She's lived her whole life with him, and now she doesn't want to be seen with him?

DeleteThe subtopic is that Via's problem is that she is embarrassed by August.She thinks shes a bad person by thinking this but she in my mind she is not.She is more embarrassed by the peoples face expressions than August.
ReplyDeleteI think Justin is nice and he helps Via out when she is Stressed out in the book.He always takes what he can do of Via asks him.He does have a mean side but he is mostly nice.
Ya if August were my brother though I wouldn't be embarrassed i would just ignore the fact that people would look at him.
DeleteI think when they were kissing and than the 2 boys kept on laughing and then the mom came up and than she did not want to look so she acted like nothing was happening.And it was the party and that is why there were so many people and he intvited his girl frined over and that is when they kissed the other people were laughing

DeleteA subplot that caught my eye was when Jack went into the store to get gum and when Julian and his gorillas walked by they teased him that was one of the subplots. And I what I thought about this section of the book was that it was kind of weird that he didn't capitalize his letters and I got confused who Olivia was but then I remembered that that was Via, I also thought that Jack was a nice guy he wasn't really mean to August.

DeleteI agree.. I think he didn't capitalize his letters because most teenage boys don't. They just don't care (or they're too lazy) to capitalize letters

DeleteYeah well think about this, you have an EXTREAMILY UGLY family member, would you want to be seen with them, i mean that's what i think that via was think then. Your at a new school with new friends and you wouldn't want to be seen with that certain family member, but that's way life is. So when you say that's the subplot it really makes me think that pretty much anyone would do that if they had an extreamily ugly member of your family.

I think a subplot might be Jack trying to get his friends back. I think he'll try to get the neutral people on his side to even out the sides.
ReplyDeleteI thought it was very nice of Justin to not say anything bad about August, and to yell at Julian and his friends for Jack. That proves that Justin is a nice person.

DeleteI think that the subplot is when Justin told those kids to stop messing with Jack because now Julian will probably make fun of him at school for having some one stick up for him and Jack won't even know what happened.
ReplyDeleteBut I think that Justin is a very nice person, and I wasn't expecting him to have tics. But then again it's sort of cool, because he and Auggie have problems to face. I also thought that it was nice of him to stick up for Jack, and not act surprised when he saw August.
