I believe that Courage is important because without courage she would've never been able to power through this stuff with pa, ma, and Franklin. Courage plays a big role...
I think the theme of the book is family, because after her mom died it really made you think about your life. It also made you think, well what if this happened to me..
I think the theme would be Family because when the pot was on fire she through it out to protect her family and the house.When her mom died she only had franklin and dad.But then franklin dies so she has to be happy so her dad.But her dad finds a lady and Billie likes her.so she had a new family.
I think the whole idea and point with this story is forgiveness because she forgives her dad for putting the kerosene next to the stove and she forgives her mom for running back into the house and she forgives herself for throwing it out the door at her mom...
I think it's forgiveness. She forgave herself, and dad towards the end of the book, and Billie Jo forgave her mom for running and getting hit by the kerosene (Billie thought it was Ma's fault for getting burned) So, I think it's forgiveness
I thinks the theme is hope because through all this she never lost hope. She always was hoping for some thing, from hoping that MadDog will like her to hoping her mom will live.

i think the theme is forgiveness because when she was in the caboose with the man and the man showed the picture to here she realized that her farther was lonely and she wanted want to forgive him for everything. And thats what i think the theme is Forgiving

I think the idea could be love because there are times when there really isn't but then it suddenly comes back and then you can feel it as a reader
