Gregor Mendel - The Study of Genetics

Science Class
April 24, 2014

We will be working through part of this in class together.  However, you will need the links for the activity.  When you are done, write the most interesting thing you learned from the lesson on the blog.

  1. I think it's cool to know the odds of what trait someone will have is. I learned that it is way less likely to have blue eyes than brown.

  2. The most interesting thing that I learned is that the monk who figured out a bunch of stuff on genes while studying pea plants didn't get credit for any of it until after he died.

  3. I thought the most interesting thing was that they did this experiment on pea plants, I guess there would be a lot more generations to study.

  4. I think it's neat how when he died, people started to find his work. Then they ended up making a whole field just for what he did.

  5. The most interesting thing i learned was that using all the pea plants it was so that they could see more generations.

  6. What I thought was the coolest thing I learned was Gregor Mendel was born 1822 and died 1884 and I know this sounds weird right now but 16 years later thanks to his discoveries well failed discoversies (Because no one botherd) was re-discoverd by Hugo De Vries and Carl Correns and Gregor got the credit he disivered.

  7. I think that it was cool that we get to find out the odds of what kind of trait that someone is going to have. I found out that there is a big diffrance if you are going to have blue eyes or if you get brown eyes you have a lot better chance to get brown eyes that blue

  8. The interesting thing i found out is its more common to have brown eyes then blue eyes.

  9. I found it cool that nobody paid attention to what Medal discovered, but then after he died (16 years later)...two guys found the work that he had done. Then genetics became its own field.

  10. I thought the most interesting part was when he became a physis teacher

  11. The most interesting thing i found out is that pea plant thing. I never knew you could find out genes from pea plants.

    1. Yeah thats cool! I didnt think you would be able to. And who knew they would be able to figure out the genes..

  12. What interested me was how no one really cared about Gregor Mendel's discovories, but I guess that people back then didn't know and had different theries about it.

  13. I thought it was cool that he was a monk with hair.

    1. i know right it thought monks couldn't have hair but he did

  14. I thought it was cool how he studied 30,000 pea plants over 8 years! Thats crazy.

    1. That's a ton of pea plants! It's really cool

  15. The most interesting thing i learned was that Mendal's research wasn't notice or popular back then. It wasn't until 16 years later that it was discovered and given credit to him.

  16. I like how you will know what percent chance you are going to get for your traits.

  17. I learned that it is way less likely to have blue eyes than brown. I thought that was the one thing i like.

  18. I think the coolest thing was that pea plants have genes to change their heights i had no clue!

  19. I think the most interesting thing is that you're more likely to have brown eyes than blue eyes. And that Gregor Mendel's discoveries were really great and helpful.

  22. The most interesting thing that i found out was how pea plants grew. I didn't know that they have genes. I thought that they were only in people.

    1. Right, I didn't know that until.. Well, when we talked about it. I never noticed how certain plants have certain genes and stuff. It's really interesting!

  23. the thing the really surprised me was that he published a journal of his pea planet experiment....but no one really noticed until a few years or more later.

  24. I thought it was pretty cool how he was a monk with hair. Another thing I found interesting was 16 years after his death, two men found his work and later genetics became if own field in science.

  25. The thing I think was cool was that he foud out how to make plants bigger with gense.

  26. The most interesting thing was that it's more common to have brown eyes than blue eyes. I have blue eyes, and so it just makes me feel special ^-^
But, I did realize that most people have brown eyes, so it makes sense.

  28. I thought it was cool when after he died he got famous

  29. One thing I thought was interesting is that it wasn't really a scientist who discovered this. You would think it was like a really really smart scientist, but it was a munk

  30. I think the most interesting thing was that Gregor Mendel took 8 years to study the 35,000 plants.

    ReplyDelete
  31. that he knows a lot about plants

  32. I think it's weird that Mendel was the one who studied genes on pea plants, but he died and didn't get any credit for what he did.

  33. The most interesting thing to me was after Mendel did his pea
experiments and then he got kidney disease he still got credit
    for it!

  34. I thought it was cool how he found out that 1 out of 4 plants are gonna be short.....

  37. I thought that after Mendel died a guy came along and found the genetics work and gave Mendel credit but he had credit for showing the world Mendel's findings.

  38. What i think is cool is if your mom and dad have a baby you can try to see if it will have brown hair or a different color.

  40. i think the most interesting thing was how we get blue and brown eyes and how he got all that from a pee plant

  42. In 1865 the Civil War ended, and what"s interesting is that you would want people to be excited about new discoveries, but there not

  43. i think it's funny when mendel was still alive he was paid no attention to. but when he died...his idea was automatically paid attention to..wow..i guess when you die people finally pay attention

    ReplyDelete
  44. The most interesting is how I got brown eyes and how he got all that from a pea plant!

  47. I think the most intresting thing was after mendals work nobody paid aney atichion to his findings. it was almost 20 years after he died when people found the importance of it.
