Who was John Wilkes Booth?

Reading
March 13, 2014

We've spent the last month reading about him, but do we really know a lot about his life before shooting Lincoln?  Today and tomorrow, we will be watching a History Channel biography of Booth.  Before we start, we will fill in a few pieces of the K-W-H-L.  Then we will watch the biography as a group.

When we're done, I want you to compare the book and the biography.  Post your responses on the blog.

  1. The biography told more about what he did and said, and showed more of his racism. It also told more about his life and family.

The book told more about what he did to escape and before the assassination.

  4. It didn't talk about the Mudd and a lot of facts were in the movie that weren't in the book. Book had a lot of the facts that we knew.

  5. Different: They didn't talk about Dr. Mudd in the movie and they didn't talk about his childhood as much in the book and in the movie it said more quotes of the people involved.

Same: They had a lot of the same facts they both told it effectivly

  7. Booth in the book wasn't as insane and cruel. He used MANY racial slurs too in the documentary. He also, was a player. They never even mentioned Dr. Mudd

  8. It was different because he used many raised names and in the book he never said anything about any raised words and other things.

  9. The book and the Biography were different in some ways, but the same in other ways. First, they both talked about Booth's failed attempt to kidnap Lincoln. The book talked a lot about Dr. Mudd, but the biography didn't say anything about it. Also, the biography acted as if Both and Herold wen't right to the barn and got caught as where the book explained it was a long time in between there.
