Take some time to explore some pictures that were taken during The Dust Bowl. Using those pictures as well as your own background knowledge, write a description of what you think The Dust Bowl was as a comment on this post. Reply to other students' ideas.
Later in the week, we will be doing some more research about The Dust Bowl in preparation for reading Out of the Dust. We will come back to this post and add to or adjust our thoughts about The Dust Bowl after we complete the research.
Dust Bowl Pictures
After looking through all these pictures, I can tell that this is not a football game. I think the Dust Bowl is sorta like a huge sand storm. Also, I think people were so afraid because the dust could go it to you lungs and kill you. And no one wants to die from suffocation.

DeleteI think the dust bowl was when ther was not anof water or rain so everthing dried up and when the wind blow their was giant dust stormes.

DeleteThe Dust bowl was lots of wind that blew tons of sand that made a kind of sand-hurricane. If you were caught out in a dust-storm, you better run.
ReplyDeleteThe dust ball was a really big sand storm that killed a lot of people and people could not grow plants for a long time if u were smart u would stay inside were it was safe. water taste like sand some times.

ReplyDeleteFrom what I saw in the pictures it looks like the dust bowl was a HUGE sand storm. Not only did it completely cover vehicles it covered a little bit of the houses too. Even though they couldn't breathe the red cross association made dust masks.

DeleteI think the Dust Bowl was a big sand storm type thing. Where huge gusts of winds would take dirt and sand and blow them around to make huge clouds of sand and dirt, that would cover the whole town. And the people had to probably stay in their houses to keep from getting dirt and sand in their body.
ReplyDeleteI think people were also scared because it was HUGE! It looks like it was huge sand clouds! It looks like they had to wear masks so they didn't get sand in there mouths noses or eyes... So I think it is a big sand storm..
ReplyDeleteAfter looking at the pictures of the dust bowl, I think that it was a storm of dust that swept through many states. People had to ware dust masks just so they could breath. The dust bowl sounds scary!!
ReplyDeleteWhen i'm looking at these photos i wonder how does a "dust bowl" happen????? It is just hard to think like how many people aboned their home, just them and their families wouldn't suffer........
ReplyDeleteAfter looking through all of the pictures I rembered watching videos of the dust bowl in Mrs.Hansons room last year and the dust bowls were like dust storms that are like really rapid.I saw two pictures that said that the storms were so bad that farmers sons could not even breathe the air and also Red Cross members wore dust masks because of the storms.

I think that the Dust Bowl Is a little place town in the dessert that had a lot of dust storms and dust everywhere. I looked at the pictures and there really wasn't any water that i had seen, besides the, actually besides nothing i really did not see any water! I remember when we had a drought, it was hard because our neighbor had told the Po-Po (police) that we had more than a three foot pool or something so we got a notice. So we were hot the rest of that drought, but it was good that my mama works at The Wilderness in the Dells. So at least we had some type of water, other than the cold cold hose.

ReplyDeleteA dust bowl is an area in Oklahoma, Kansas, and Texas when a huge dust storm comes. I'm pretty sure after people expeirenced them they moved.
ReplyDeleteI think it was just a huge storm of dust and/or sand.
ReplyDeleteAll those people who died from sand in their lungs or even from starvation, they wouldn't want to go outside to look for plants to eat or go to the shopping center! Imagine the pain if you had to go outside and had all that sand on your back or even face!! That would hurt SO BAD!!!!!

DeleteA dust storm is something that comes and it can kill people and it makes you not able to see and hard to walk in.
ReplyDeleteI think the dust blow is the biggest sand storm ever and it could hurt you or kill you they mostly happen in deserter
ReplyDeleteI know right the sand would be unbearably fast and probably leave TONS of cuts on your skin
ReplyDeleteI think after looking at all the pictures that it is a big cloud of dust from the wind and when the sand gets in your lungs it can kill you
