  1. Part of Book: The French Doctor

My Thoughts: I thought it was weird why they did it since they were enemies at that point.

Question:L Did you think it was a good idea?

    1. I think that if they were enemies at that point of time that maybe he was trying to maybe hurt them even more or try to take out all of Philadelphia. I highly doubt that would happen maybe they were trying to have peace between them and sent a doctor to help them.

    2. I think that it was a good idea. I mean if he wanted he could have killed a lot of their people by giving them a fake cure, but he didn't. I personally think that his cure was more helpful than Rush's very intense "cure".

  2. Part of Book:When the two doctors find a cure and start helping people become better.
My Thoughts:The cure must not be working if there are two different cures going around and people are still dying, nobody seems to be getting better.
    Question:Why aren't people getting better?

    1. I think that they just kept trying the stupidest things that cure one thing, just not the other, more severe things.

    2. I think they are either trying out different cures for different people or they are not agreeing on the cures they have. They might be thinking that they want there cure to be more advanced.

    3. I don't think that there is an actual cure. The doctors are probably just thinking that they have a cure, but they don't really. If the doctor who came up with the cure got sick then he couldn't really have come up with a cure. People are just going to have to wait until it goes away.

    4. I think that their cures are just false hope. making people believe that they can cure themselves but really back then with what the doctors had they couldn't make a cure or treatment so just made something they thought might help to give people hope but really they couldn't get better. Almost everyone who contracted a full on case of yellow fever died. some survived but that's because not everyone had the same case of yellow fever some peoples were worse and some peoples were very light. So the "Doctors" at the time didn't have the correct knowledge about the human body and the right skill to make a cure. They mostly made the cure so people would believe in them, no the other doctor, so it made them better.

  3. Part of Book:Page 77 Chpt 7

My thoughts: I thought are other cities scared to go by Philadelphia. They are still sending ships for supplies and helping them to get rid of Yellow Fever. They keep saying that they never send ships anymore but, they say that they keep sending supplies to them.

Question:Are they trying to help get rid of Yellow Fever or are they doing it for the imports?

    1. I think that the imports are the least of their problems. They couldn't have known what it could do to their supplies. I think the ships were more of like a medical boat.

    2. I think that the other cities are just trying to get rid of the Yellow Fever as much as Philadelphia. Think of it this way. If the fever spreads, then their cities will be infected too.

    3. I think that they are trying to get rid of it. I think this because if the ships go into the yellow fever infested city then they will most likely bring yellow fever to their cities and people.

    4. I think that they are trying to get rid of it so it won't spread and go into other cities.

  4. Part of Book: I want to discuss how all of the surrounding cities started to ignore all of Philadelphia.
My thoughts: I thought that it was reasonable what the other cities did. They wanted to stop the cure so they pretty much put the city in a quarantine. It was kind of mean and harsh what they did when citizens were found out of the city. One person and her slave were stripped, tarred, and feathered. That seems a bit extreme. I mean these people were only trying to get help. Why not help them and then you won't have to deal with the plague. It was also weird how they were like here's $5,000 but you need to stay away.
Question: What do you think? Were the neighboring cities too harsh, or should they have helped Philadelphia?

    1. Should they have helped, no. I think it was better of them to not go and physically (as in people go actually help) do anything, but the $5,000 was good, I guess.

    2. They are just being selfish and trying to protect themselves from the plague. They think that the slightest touch or something that is sent to them from Philadelphia will have the disease. They are trying to be cautious. They might want to help but they are scared to.

    3. I think that it was okay that they didn't help them because then they would've gotten sick to. Instead of helping them they sent over $5,000 so they helped a little bit by sending money for supplies.

  5. Part:I think that the govenor should take most of the credit for trying to help the people.
thoughts: he should be awarded for trying to help but didn't get awarded.
Q: why did he not leave with his family instead of staying

    1. He probably wanted to help the community because he didn't want to leave Philadelphia without someone to be in charge and help out.

  6. Part of Book: Firing gunpowder
My thoughts: I think it was a bit strange that they would attempt to keep the disease at bay, but i think that it wouldn't help because it is not stopping the disease physically it is just having the smell of gunpowder masking the smell of rotting things
Question: What do you think? Is the firing of gunpowder having any affect on keeping the deadly disease away?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. i don't think it is helping keep it away but it is making it worse with the gunpowder in the air and the disease.

    2. I agree with you on that MIKE M it didn't seem to be helping anything

  7. part of the book:Why people don't try to help the poor leave so they can live.
My thoughts: The rich people or the people that have money can leave not get sick but, the poor people don't have a choice they cant leave and they are probably gonna die from the sickness. I think the rich people should help the poor people so they have a chance of living to.
Question: what do you think? should they help or should they leave the poor people to get sick and possibly die
