  1. Are Schools Giving Out Too Much Or Too Little Homework?
It’s another regular day for 8th graders in bartels middle school. A lot of kids look like they’re about to pass out right on the desks because of how tired they are! They were struggling to do their best in class but just couldn’t focus. Is this all because of social media? Did they stay up all night playing video games? Or is this all because of homework?
I took the time to interview a parent, two students in extracurricular activities, and another student from Little Chute Middle School on what they think about homework. The first one to be interviewed was a parent of one of the students at Bartels Middle School and what they think about their child's homework. One of the questions that was asked was ‘What do you think about the amount of homework your child receives?’ and the parent responded with “It's very excessive.” The next question that was asked was ‘Do you think all this homework is necessary for your child to receive on a daily basis?’ “No, I don't. Kids have a lot of extra curricular activities after school, and the school day should be for school work just like the work day is for work.” The last question that the interviewer asked him was ‘ Do you think your child will benefit from their large amounts of homework?’ “ Not always because not all parents are educators. They don't always have the time or resources too adequately teach a lesson from the school day.”
After my questions were answered from a parent the interviewer asked another 8th grade student from Little Chute Middle School, too see what their homework routine was like. ‘Do you receive homework on a daily basis?’ Taygan, the student that was interviewed, responded with “yes.” ‘Do you think your homework is necessary for you too receive on a daily basis?’ She said “No, I have an essay due almost everyday, I have to do 2 spanish work pages a day and unnecessary math homework.” The last question she was asked was ‘Do you think you will benefit from any of your homework?’ Her response was “Maybe spanish homework but other than that studying would be the only “homework” i’d benefit from”
Finally the interviewer, interviewed two other students that participate in after school curricular activities every night. One of the three questions that was asked was ‘what do you think about the amount of homework you receive?’ Greg's response was “I think it is a fair amount, it's just if i have the majority of it all on the same day.” and Junior responded with “I think we receive a lot.” When asked the same question. Both boys were then asked ‘Do you struggle to balance both your sports and school work?’ and Greg said “Not really, because I know when to pick up the pace and plan out how long the homework will take me, so I don't have to be in a rush to get it done.” and Junior responded “Sometimes.” The last question they were asked was ‘Have your grades ever affected your sports or possibly your social life in any way?’ Greg's response was “Never. They could very easily affect an athlete's career, that’s very true.” and juniors response was “No.”
After all of these interviews this interviewer has discovered that most of these people think that the amount of homework they receive is unnecessary. Some kids might think that the homework they receive is so much that the thought of a kid laying in bed thinking about the homework they might receive the next day is preposterous. But however this may not be the case for everyone that receives homework.

  2. Things that you can’t see

Bullying can change your life. You could be having the best and someone decides that they are gonna ruin your life just for fun. Sometimes the people being bullied have to be like Katnis and be brave, tough, and fearful. They have to survive the fight of the bullies. This reporter interviewed some 8th graders and they all said they have been bullied before and it had a real impact in their life and some even thought about taking their own lives.
It is a serious problem all over the world. There is over 3.2 million students are victims of bullying each year. Almost 160,000 teens skip school because of the bullying situations. It doesn’t just affect some schools, almost every school in the world has the problem of bullying. The 8th graders that this reporter interviewed said that they had gone to the office to try to get help and the office said they would and didn’t do a thing, and the bullying continued. You could be walking in the halls, and in a split second you are being shoved and called names. Also bullying just doesn’t happen at school is on social media. Like Snapchat, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. This type of bullying is called cyberbullying. It affects 25% of teens, it also has a huge impact on their lives too. It’s less common than school bullying but it still happens and still hurts.
Bullying can impact your life and the impact is never good. It hurts and it can kill innocent teens. This is a worldwide problem, that never stops.

  5. Animal Abuse
Animal abuse is a big deal in not just North America but the world. Animal abuse is illegal in most places but in places like china it is allowed for meat purposes. Most people don't know animal abuse to animals is illegal which is probably why so many people do it, but that's a problem that they don't know. Including the amount of abusers and the countless animal victims are through the roof. Animal abuse happens everywhere and most people are to busy or interested in other things, to think about it. Approximately 3,153,000 incidents of abuse happens towards animals happens each year.
Each second an animal is abused. The stats of each animal and its abuse involves 70.1% of dogs, 20.9% of cats, and 24.1% include other animals. People abuse animals such as fighting them (The common animals used for fighting are dogs, and chickens), sexual abuse, starving them purposely, hitting them, or abandoning them. People manage to abuse animals in so many ways it's incredible. People would describe these abusers similar to the devil. People want these abusers to stop. If you can't take care of your animal people suggest if you love your pet to give your animal up so it can get the care it needs. Some people believe men, women, and children can lower these numbers if they try hard enough, some disagree and believe it's a habit after a while and they will not be able to stop.

  6. Help teens with suicide!

It is devastating to hear someone committing suicide. Many teens probably have depression from school, friends, family and more. You can talk to anyone, people you can trust. Anyone would rather save someone’s life then the assassinating them selves. If you hear someone talk about assassinating them selves, get some help or you help. Don’t just sit there and doing nothing. Make a difference. 60% of people who do commit suicide use firearms. That is awful! If you have any firearms in your house, keep them away from teens and children. Lock them up somewhere and put it somewhere safe. I get it, you could be stressed over something but don’t take your life out of it. Here is something big that everyone should know. There is a lot of people with health problems like cancer, transplants, lyme disease and more. Well hate to break it to you but more people commit suicide. Suicide beats all the healthcare problems! Suicide isn’t the case to get rid of your problems. There are three options in life the top of the world, the bottom of the world, and living in the moment. God, parents, adults, even kids work day and night for you. They want to try to make you happy. You guys probably didn’t know this but life isn’t perfect we all make mistakes. We all see good and evil! Light and darkness! Teens don’t commit suicide for your mistakes or someone else’s mistakes! Just live in the moment in the real world. Our feelings are from the heart. We get frustrated, devastated, heartbroken if someone takes their life away. September 11th has that same way. They are afraid, frustrated, heartbroken when someone’s life is gone. Life brings us down, feelings and hearts are blown away when something terrible happens. Teens do you want to take away your life and not to see the one’s you love anymore?Think about it. This is a situation in our world.

  7. Different types of Graffiti
There was a girl named Victoria seeing graffiti in a bathroom everywhere and thought that it was a girl named Chloe who did it. Chloe made a grin to her face and she went to go to the bathroom and seeing the graffiti in the bathroom she noticed it was Chloe that did the graffiti everywhere in the bathroom. This made her feel surprised. She did this because she got expelled or suspended for swearing, smoking marijuana, and walking on a stage that’s for tempest acting only.
There are many forms of graffiti. Some are unwanted, but some are wanted. Unwanted graffiti causes people money and stress. On the other hand, wanted graffiti makes people happy such as art and murals.
Graffiti in public bathrooms can be disrespectful. For instance, a girl named Chloe drew a middle finger on the floor of her school bathroom. Spray painting or scribbling on people property is destructive and expensive. Additionally, graffiti can be hateful. It bullies people. It can make people sad, and mad. Hateful graffiti can be used to frighten people. There is also graffiti on trains they’re both unwanted and wanted. The unwanted graffiti can be on trains that worker and companies own and have to get new ones. Others on trains sometimes sees graffiti as art that are on buildings. They’re graffiti that is art that is wanted some are murals and some are colorful.

  8. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Snapchat are all popular social media sites that kids and teens use regularly. But, on all of the sites people of all ages could be exposed to inappropriate messages or content that was sent from random people on the internet that could possibly be trying to do harm to you or one of your children. A child with a social media account could be dangerous also because on some sites when you register to get a account, they ask what town you live in and puts your information on your main page and then it’s there for anyone and everyone to see.
I have interviewed a person on the topic and they have a few social media accounts and this is what they had to say.” After a message I had received I think parents should be monitoring their teen’s account.” I’ve heard of many incidents about people getting random messages on their social media accounts. But, there are teens who I know who say that their parents never check their phones because their parents trust the choices that they make. Another person I had interviewed said they had gotten some messages with inappropriate content. So internet safety is very important and if it is going to be used everyone should know how to be safe on the

  11. The Craigslist Saver

Bite marks, scars, and open fresh wounds covered a pitbull, Mama Jade. Mama Jade cased was said that it was one of the worst in history. The poor female pitbull had tons of bite marks around her body. It was said that she was used for dog fights or was abuse or both.

Mama Jade was found in Nashville on October in 2013, the pitbull was found wandering around a neighborhood. But stumbled across her saver’s friend house. Her friend was in fearful shock. The friend called Willis who was the saver. Willis took care of the very injured dog with open fresh wounds, scars, and purple fresh shown everywhere onto Mama body.

Willis posted a ad onto Craigslist that said “Your pitbull found me and I won’t give her back” She wanted to put Mama down in relaxing way. Because the treatment to her cancer was way too much for her to pay. The ad went viral all around, thousands of emails from different states and countries swarm in for donates.

People were so sad like the scene from the Hunger Games as Rue was dying in Katniss lap. Knowing that Mama was gonna die.

After four months of saving the pitbull, all the fonds raised was being used towards Mama medical expenses.

  12. Should College Athletes be Paid?

The team’s down by 2. Crowd is chanting. 5 seconds left. Inbound at half court. The point guard gets the pass, dribbles up, shoots up a prayer….and it goes in. The team wins by 1 point. Now, imagine if this guy was paid good money to do that.
Our reporter went to ask former collegiate Steven’s Point basketball player and coach, and 1st team all-American, Tyler Tillema about the issue. “From a player’s perspective, I personally think they should be. Whether it’s how many hours they put in in the weight room, to how well they perform each night. I think that’s what it should be based off of.” “I think it could also have some great advantages for the players as well, for example, definitely the rent for the apartments, or meal plans, or just regular spending money for the road.”
“I could also see it both ways, from a coach’s perspective. For the amount of money the university brings in for the games, coaches would also have to deal with his/her responsibilities.” He then added, “They would most likely be paid by skill level/how hard they’ve been working, and obviously the division would also have an affect on the pay.”
So, what do you think? They obviously wouldn’t have money like Bill Gates, but should these colleges take action in what Tyler said, or should they keep it the old-fashioned way?

  13. Is football too dangerous for kids?

Should parents let their kids play football? This is a common question throughout the U.S. Football has good things and bad thing that come with playing it.
There are many reasons why football can be a dangerous sport. Some reasons are broken bones, torn muscles, sprained ankles etc. But the most dangerous and most common are brain injuries. There are many things that can happen to your brain, concussions, contusions, traumatic brain injuries, locked in syndrome, etc.
But there are also many good things that come with playing football. You can get a scholarship for college, it is mentally and physically good exercise. Also, Kim Gorgens states that “football also helps make more compact white matter in the player's brain, which is linked to better cognitive function.”
So should parents let their children play football? There is no right or wrong answer since there are many goods and bads that come with playing this sport. So it is up to the parent and what they think.

  14. Do you own a cell phone? Do you own any device that you can socialize on? In the year 2017 85% of teens have a cell phone is the united states. Cell phones have been around for about 12 years and have been very useful to people, but did you know that cell phones, social media and technology in general are being used in a negative way too. We are using these devices to talk to our peers meaning that we are not talking to them in person.

In the year of 2000 to 2017 technology has been getting way more advanced and more and more kids are starting to use it at a young age. Kids are being taught how to use technology to talk about their problems instead of in person. This can have a negative effect on people's life cause if you don´t talk to the person you don’t know the person's reaction and you can't tell if they are telling the truth or not or what their reaction is.
I talked to some of my peers on what they thought about using technology to talk to people and this is what they said. One person that is a boy said that “using technology to talk about important stuff to their peers has it advantages and disadvantages such as when we use our cell phones to text someone about something important we aren’t really sure what they are actually thinking about the problem or what their reaction is. He also said that when we talk in person it is easier to figure things out and solve the situation better or find information out easier. The next person I talked to was a girl and she said that she is very active on social media and that she spends at least 3 hours a night on her phone talking to people. She thinks that when people talk over text message that they don’t talk like that in person. Meaning that what people say over text they don’t say in person because they are more comfortable to talk over text and not in person. This is a negative thing because kids and teens growing up in the years 21st century are being taught how to talk to people through cell phones and not in person. “This generation needs to start talking to people in person because if I doesn't get any better, when we have kids there is going to be way more advanced technology and we are situation is going to get worse”,said a teacher at bartels middle school. Overall this generation need to start talking in person more before i gets out of hand and we don’t talk at all in person.

  15. Has Basketball Become Too Soft?

Have you ever found yourself yelling at the TV because of a bad call? Did your team’s star player foul out? Get thrown out? Maybe they can’t hear your shouting, but you’re in the same boat with a lot of people. You’re probably wondering, “Has the game of basketball become a little soft?”.
Let’s go hear some expert opinions on the topic. “The NBA is more of a finesse game nowadays,” says Kobe Bryant, former Los Angeles Laker and Hall of Famer, “it’s more small ball - you can’t touch a guy. Makes me nauseous”. Former Philadelphia 76ers star point guard and Hall of Famer, Allen Iverson, had some comments on the topic. “You hear about all these players resting, getting ready for the next game all of a sudden - I’d never, ever sit out a game if something wasn’t broke or I just simply couldn’t play”. “A guy like myself would compete night in and night out. Not take a night off”.
Some of the smallest trash talk or little foul could very possibly lead to an ejection or technical foul. Players could also be getting competitive with one another on both sides of the floor, and start playing really good defense, and a hand touch could be called a foul. Just because they were actually getting in to the game. That’s what they’re supposed to do! Demarcus Cousins, an NBA forward who is known for getting a lot of technical fouls, recently set an NBA record for most technical fouls in a season - 16 - Famous Chicago Bulls guard and Hall of Famer Michael Jordan, only had 22 technical fouls in his whole career.
So, this is where you decide. Has the game of basketball gotten softer since the olden days? Or are the officials just cracking down on calling a better game?
