  1. Does money buy happiness

Is money something everyone really wants? Is it for the power, the freedom or is it just wanting to be lazy? A study at The University of Nebraska found that memories make us happier. All though you might need money to create memories.

Some people will work really ward with little time off to have time to do thing they want or spend it with their family. After they are retired they could have get a big house and a easy life. The other option is you get the basics in life with time off. To spend with their family. But later they could a little worried it they will financially have enough money to their death. Like in The Wizard of Oz, Dorothy is taking the yellow brick road to happiness with a little work she will be happier after the story than during the story.

People show that buying thing make you happy but not as happy as giving your money to someone or giving it to a charity. But you might have to buy something to create memories. AS in a movie or a concert. But really there is no answer set in stone, if money can really buy happiness.

  2. The morning Grudge

What do you think about how early the school day starts? A Bartels middle school student interviewed three students, and their opinions on this subject. One girl wants to change the starting time rules. She believes there are pros and cons of this starting time.
When she interviewed these girls you can see why they said they can focus in school anymore because of how tired they are. To get to school on time they have to wake up 5:30 and the other two said 5:50 A.M. Now you can’t blame them when they said they think the starting times should be 10:30, 11:00 A.M and 12:00 P.M . Yes you may think they are staying up late on their phones but one of them is in swimteam and doesn't get home till 6:00 P.M every night, and then has chores and usually 2 hours of homework each night as well as time for dinner a shower, and a small amount of relaxing time. The other two usually have the same amount of homework time but still have dinner a shower, and chores of their own as well. Which leaves them going to bed around 10:00 P.M and later every night.
Of course there are some pros of this early starting time like, more learning time, more ready for high school, and getting use to waking up early for work or a college class in the future.
What do you think about the starting time, is it to early or to late?

    1. I like how you worded sentences but I feel that you need more of a hook for your lead. Also the sentence is "A Bartels Middle school student interviewed three students..." It makes you (the reporter) sound like you interviewed a student who interviewed 3 students. If you the reporter was the one to interview the 3 students, I say change it to "this reporter" so its more clear.

  3. Do Girls need to have "Perfect" Bodies?

At Bartels Middle School, guys are judging girls everyday as they walk by in the halls, based on their looks. Girls are being overwhelmed because a guy says they need to look perfect. It can be a pretty big problem because girls could commit suicide when a guy calls them fat, ugly etc.

What has a big influence on guys can be music videos. The videos can make the guys think that girls need to be perfect but no one is. Guys answered questions like “ Do you think girls are supposed to be perfect?” Most guys answered “No” and some said “Yes”. “Do you think it’s ok for guys to judge girls based on their looks?” Most guys answered “No” and only a few answered “Yes”. “ What’s your idea about girls needing to be ‘perfect’?” Guys answered with “ Cute, Nice, and good hygiene”. “ What’s your idea of a perfect girl?” Guys said “Personality and Looks”. “ Do you think girls would change based on what what you tell them?” Guys said “It Depends.”. It’s like the book called “Luckiest Girl Alive”. She gets publicly humiliated and her reputation is ruined. Girls can easily get publicly humiliated based on what a guy says and it would be a lot more harder for girls to be confident again.

The purpose of this study was to see what guys thought about girls needing to be “Perfect”.

It’s hoped that people will see that every person is different and beautiful in their own way.

    1. I strongly agree with this paragraph, I also think it is welly written. When they say girls need to be perfect then they should have to be perfect to.

  4. Are the time of school days a problem?

“3 weeks ago my mom was setting up a 1:00 pm doctor appointment for today. Around 1 o'clock is my most important class. History. I have a test tomorrow and I really wish the school days were longer so the class periods would go on longer. So I won’t have to miss so much class.”
Many students have opinions on school days. Some think they’re too long while others think they're too short. Most of this conflict seems unnecessary to some. Others may take themselves out of the conflict which seems to be the ones who are doing average in school. Many relate the conflict as the Capulets and Montagues between the teachers and students. “The school days should be shorter so then I’ll have enough time to do my homework when I get home.” a student said. “School days should be longer because then we will learn much more and get enough class time to do the homework other than doing it at home.” said another. This reporter heard many good supporting reasons for each side so she decided to take the conflict to a bigger thought.
Some experts had pros and cons about this situation. Some said longer and others said shorter. Some pros about if the school days get longer, are predicted to be that students will do much better in school. Especially being seen doing homework and get help if they need it. So there should be an increase of learning rates at this point. Some cons say that many extra curricular activities won't be able to take place that night unless it's late or on the weekends. Which that includes clubs, sports, meets, etc. If the school days were to be made shorter it would take out many extra classes that aren't required to graduate school. Also it would make it harder to learn all of the things that you would need to learn in the class time. For a counter react it can make extra curricular activities longer and allow more after school time to do homework.
All in all, longer and shorter school days both have their pros and cons. The biggest problem is, how will we find out which one will be the best for our school?

  5. Gym Class in America- Jack Callen

All across the nation, children come from all around to go to school. Math, English, Social Studies and Science are some of the most essential courses in education. But without physical activity it can be a challenge to get work done.
According to Dr. John Ratey if students increased their physical activity at school it would put them in their chairs and even improve their skill of trying new things. Obesity is a major problem in the United States. Institute of Medicine reported that only 50% of children reach the goal of 60 minutes of activity a day.
Gym class and health class come with many benefits at school. With fun activities and games the student’s anxiety could be reduced by up to 50%. In health, kids can learn about healthy eating plans and how to stay in good shape. With these practices it would demolish the 1 in 3 children obesity rate.
In the future if the amount of activity in school changes students will benefit substantially. It would reduce their risks of heart disease, stroke, cancer or diabetes when they get older. With more physical activity it will improve our nation’s health.
Both the teachers and the doctors have an equal argument though. The teachers do need as much time as possible to teach the lessons required for the year. But the doctors know that the children are gonna need time during the day to burn off their extra calories and energy. But the teachers should know that exercise would improve the scores in the classroom. The situation is like the example of when Sophie had to choose one twin from being taken from the Nazis.

    1. When you mention physical activity reducing anxiety, did you ever think that have to exercise may cause some people to have worse anxiety symptoms? If you look at Liz W.'s article, you will see that some people are not comfortable with their bodies because people judge them. A lot of people that I know don't like to exercise in front of other in fear of being judged by their peers. I think you only thought of the situation from one point of view and didn't consider another aspect of anxiety while in gym class in school.

  7. From the beginning of time, to the end of time there will always be problems with equality; skin color, religion, gender, etc. Forty-eight point one percent of the world is being effected by one of these equality, and that is gender equality.

Reflecting back to even a more recent time in the fight for women’s rights, June Bingham (64) talked about what things were like for her in her life in the 60’s. She said growing up that she would hear about everything that was happening in larger cities, but never experienced it first hand, as she grew up in a small town in Northern Michigan. But just because she was not in all of the protests, doesn’t mean she didn’t experience sexism in her daily life. Growing up, her curfew was earlier than her brothers. When she got a job, she was paid significantly lower than the men doing the same job. When Ms. Bingham and her husband were raising their daughter, she would have to fight to even get a say on how to raise their daughter because “the man is always right”. June Bingham has stated that she believe the times are much better now, yet still could use a significant amount of improvement. But all of the protests and different marches that are still happening are helping in her opinion.

Forty eight point one percent of the of the world’s population is fighting for something that they are not nearly close to getting, but women will keep fighting to make things better for future generations.

  8. Homework or Not
An 8th grade boy from bartels middle school had basketball practice right after school until 5:15. Then, he went home and took a shower and ate. By then it was 6:00, so he ran off to his brothers game, and got home by 10:45. He came home and started on his history homework, and that took him 15 minutes. Then, he did his math which took another 15 minutes. He still had to write an article for english, but he was tired and his parents were telling him to go to bed, but he knew he would get in trouble the next day at school.

Homework can help people, because it can get you better at a skill outside of school. Most of the time kids that do their homework do get better grades. Homework give you a good study habits for when you really need it in the higher grades. Also, it gives parents insight into their children's learning, so they can know what they are learning and what they need help with. Students say homework helps them know what they are learning if they don’t understand in class.

Homework can also stress out a lot of school students especially for younger kids. The 8th grade student feels stressed out a lot with how much homework he was. If you stay up late doing homework the next day at school will be hard to learn, and remember what you learned, because you are so tired, so it also can affect your learning ability. Homework does not necessarily improve your school performance. Albert Einstein said “ play is the highest form of research,” and he is one of the smartest people in the world. How can you play if there is no time too with a lot of homework. Also, students are a school form 6-8 hours a day plus homework. Students say that they get their homework done, but with struggle and stress. Plus it takes them an hour of two, and they have no free time to relax or do what they want.

Students might get their homework done, but it might affect their learning ability the next day at school, and you are learning something new every day at school, so is homework worth it or not?

  10. Why Animal Abuse?

I’ve been outside in her backyard for I don’t know how long now. I’ve lost track. Honestly, I’m still kind of confused on why my owner put me out here in the first place. I’m thinking she might be angry because I ruined her precious, precious shoes. But hey, I was bored, and hungry. Anyways, I’m tired of sleeping out here. My doghouse just doesn’t keep me warm anymore. I wonder when she’s going to let me back inside. Did she forget about me?
That situation might not sound familiar to you, but it can happen. This reporter is here to converse different reasons why animal abuse could be happening. There are more than what first comes to mind.
First of all, animal abusers can sometimes not realize that what what there are doing is wrong. The owner in the story probably gave their dog the first punishment they could think of. Which, sadly, was not the best situation for the dog. Being outside in the frigid cold for long periods of time, can make a dog sick. And, just very miserable in general.
The second possible reason is rather similar to the first one. It could be be because the owner is taking out their anger or frustration on their pet. For example, someone may hit their pet out of frustration because they disobeyed them. In reality, they didn’t mean to hurt their pet, and just didn’t think it through.
Another possibility that this reporter found is the owner not being fit for owning a pet. Working endless days and nights can take away time from caring for your pet. Which is also considered as abuse.
However, other abusers have an entirely different approach for why they’re doing this. It’s simply amusing to them, so they do it on purpose. Picture Rosa Parks getting mistreated because she sat where she wanted on a bus. These animals are treated in quite a similar way.
Overall, there are many different reasons for animal abuse. It goes beyond hurting animals on purpose. Some people may not mean to, or not realize they are doing it. While that can be another person’s exact intention.

  11. I'm in swim and it ends at 6:15 so i'm not getting home until around 7:00 and after that i have to shower eat dinner and do homework and then chores that makes me go to bed around 10:30 or 11:00 and its hard waking up for school and focusing.I think if we didn't have homework it would make it better.

  13. The DNR is here to keep us from not endangering fish and other water species. But some people do not agree with all the rules and regulations they give us.

Do you think that DNR rules are necessary? This is just one of many questions I asked 2 anglers. The biggest idea was if all DNR rules are necessary and the anglers I interviewed both said that some rules rules are necessary and some are not such as some Daily bag limits are to low and some size limits to keep the fish and eat are to big. On the DNR’s point of view they have these rules so they can sustain fish population so there is more to fish in the future in certain rivers and lakes also, so they can provide access as fair as possible to all anglers anywhere. As well, 1 more question I asked was”Why do you think they have so many rules”? And they said to keep people in line so they do not abuse the right to fish.

In conclusion, the DNR gives rules and we must go along with otherwise we will get into trouble.

  14. Kids wine and get mad about the amount of homework. But do you think about if they even take time to do it. The amount of homework has a lot of setbacks of pros and cons. Many kids even take time to do homework. Homework benefits kids by making them better at the skill. Homework doesn't just help student s it also helps teachers, it helps show teacher’s what kids are better at and what kids need help on. It also helps keeping teachers on track.
The disadvantages are it takes up a lot of free time. It also brings a lot of kids grades down. A lot of students have afterschool sports and don’t get home until late at night. Kids are then up all night working on projects and homework that are possibly due the next day and then they don’t get enough sleep. It’s sad having to watch these kids having to drop out of classes they like just to get an extra study hall to get all the work they have done.
Homework is also really stressful to some students. “I watch kids struggle and get themselves over stressed because they can’t or don’t understand the homework” coming from a Math teacher in Eau claire. Many other kids really like doing homework. The amount of homework has many pros and cons. The amount of homework can go either ways. It helps in some situation and in others it doesn't. And that is how people feel about the amount of homework.

    School day hours

Every Morning when kids wake up to go to school it’s the same thing their tired and don’t want to go but when the school day ends teachers didn’t teach children all they had to teach them how can kids learn all they have to but get to sleep more time?
Kids parents and teachers all have different opinions.Kids believe there’s too much homework and not enough time to do it because of how early school starts and they don’t have much time to do activities they enjoy because of how little time they have to do homework after the school day they still need to eat take a shower and do their chores kids simply don’t want this much school time. Then there is parents the school time can be convenient for them but it can also be bad for them There are parents who work in the morning and they don’t want their kids to ride the bus because they feel that their kids aren’t safe while on their way to the bus so they don’t find the school time very convenient then there are other parents who work while the kids go to school or after so they don’t have to worry about how their kids will get school since they can take them because they have time to do that.
Finally there is teachers, Teachers want a break as much as students do they would enjoy having some free time to do their hobby’s but they understand how important learning is Most of them feel that the class time isn’t long enough to teach students all they had to learn leading to more work next day and why most of the days kids go home confused not knowing what to do on their homework.
Kids teachers and students all have important activities in their lives but school is also necessary how can heir be more time for sleep yet enough time to sleep if school only goes on for 9 months.Kids need to learn and teachers need to teach them but they also need a break.

  16. Injuries in football

Name a player who is injured from your favorite team, mines Aaron Rodgers. Almost every game Someone gets injured. I interviewed a football player from Bartels Middle School, and I looked up some details about football injuries too. The player I interviewed has had a dislocated shoulder, two concussions, and lots of sprained ankles and he only has been playing for four years. He said some of these are still affecting him today, like his shoulder. He would still play a game he loves though. Over 40% of the NFL players have some sort of brain injuries. They have made it better by the new helmets. The helmets are softer on the outside and it will gives a little, it acts a lot like a car bumper. Here are some teams that have the helmets San francisco, the packers, the seahawks, and the Jets. they cost a stunning 1500 dollars.”When you play Wisconsin, or in arizona they still work.

  17. Pro Athletes Pay

Pro athletes in the NBA, MLB, NFL, etc. get paid on average about seven to eight million dollars a year. Some pro athletes get paid less, some make about what an average doctor makes a year, roughly about five-hundred thousand dollars a year. Other athletes like LeBron James get paid about twenty-five million dollars a year, or like Russell Westbrook getting about fifty million dollars a year.
These athletes live off of the massive amounts of money that they make, but the main reason why athletes get paid so much is because they are expected to be leaders for the U.S. communities and give back to the people who need it most. At least eighty-five percent of all pro athletes give back in some kind of way. These pro athletes work extremely hard and become super fit to become good at their game to earn their money and to help the U.S. by making charities for cancer, athletic programs for kids, and much more. For example, the Tiger Woods Foundation is a foundation that gives over fifteen million dollars a year to improve kids health and education. Other foundations made by pro athletes like the Peyton Manning's Peyback Foundation, give around five-hundred thousand dollars a year to the improvement of cancer studies for the youth of the U.S.
The whole reason pro athletes are getting paid this much is because they are expected to be leaders and donate to charities to help their country, and also to live on the extra money that they earned by being good at sports. So as most people think these pro athletes get paid way too much, yes they do get paid a lot but they use it to help all of us living in the U.S.

  18. How long should the school year really be?

It is a common question, “Is the school year too long?” This reporter from Bartels Middle School interviewed 4 kids about this dilemma. The common theme that came from these four students was the school has a lot of extra free time throughout the day.
These were the results. 50% said the summer was too short. 100% thought school had too much free time throughout the day that could be used for something else. Wasted time is like wasting food. I asked them, “how many hours does the school have free time a day?” and most students replied 2 hours and 30 minutes. The students said this wasted 2 hours could be used for extra learning and we could still have a shorter school year. Oddly for the next question all the answers were the same. I asked if 7 hours a day is too short, or too long? The students all said the school day is too long and we should get rid of extra classes like gym, music, art.
So overall if the school/ students didn’t have so much free time the students could be smarter and the school year could be shorter. What do you think? Do you the the school year is too long?
