  1. Has the rate of homelessness increased or decreased over the years? There are a lot of homeless people in San Francisco and since there are so many it’s hard to figure out how to help them. The people walking by don’t help because they are worried about where their money might go. If they give their money out to the people living on the street they could be concerned the homeless will spend it on things they don’t need to provide for themselves like Cigarettes, Drugs and alcohol. Some people might be willing to give their money out if they knew it was going to help them with food, housing or necessities. Some things that have caused the homeless problem: high property taxes, not enough jobs, less public housing and increased crime rates.
Did these people have dreams before they were homeless? They weren’t always homeless they had a job, and a house before they went homeless. What if they had a job then they got fired and they couldn’t get a job before their houses property taxes need to be paid for. What if their job wasn’t paying enough to pay for their house they could have lost their houses to that.
People walk past the homeless all the time in San Francisco and no one really talks to them. When people walk past them they should at least say Hi to them. If you know a way you can help call 555-555-5555.

    1. This article is amazing. Homelessness is a real problem in the United States, and in the world. It is something everyone sees a lot. This article really makes you think about what did happen to them, and what can be done to help.

  2. Yesterday the Patchin family went over to their grandma’s house so she could look at this years family pictures. She came to a decision and then her daughter in law asked if she was ready for her eye surgery. She told us about her doctor's appointment.

Everything was great, until they asked if they could draw blood. She said it was fine although they never told her so she didn’t fast. Her blood was drawn and she went home. The next day they asked to come in and have it retested, because she didn’t fast. Well once again the same thing happened, she didn’t fast. So, they drew blood and she left.

On friday they called and told her she had diabetes, and if she has diabetes she can’t have her eye surgery done, so she will go blind. Before they thought it was cataracs but now they say she is going blind because of the diabetes. How many other people does diabetes do this to? What can be done to slow the side effects?

    2. I never knew that diabetes could make someone go blind. Diabetes is an actual problem so nice job making an article about it. I have never had my blood drawn so what does it mean when they didn't fast

    3. Very interesting, one question though, what does fast mean? (:

  3. Today, October 3, 2017 the Wisconsin Department of Education banned all graphic novel books in all Wisconsin classrooms, because they believe they reduce reading skills. If any teacher does not follow the rule and get rid of all graphic novel books, the proper authorities will take their teaching license away.

However, five out of five students say they would rather read a graphic novel other than a normal novel. Graphic novels enhearten children to read, they don't drain or reduce learning skills. Will they ever bring graphic novels back? Or will they be gone for ever in Wisconsin?

  4. On a scorching mid September day 2, 3rd hour classes walked out to the bartels middle school football field.

In the week they spent their class time in groups of the 3 or 4, making rockets.

When They were done they went outside and they launched the rockets. Some shot into the sky so far you can't see them. While some barely went off the ground and exploded.

Either way the audience of elementary school students from schools nearby oohed and ahhed as rocket after rocket shot into the sky. (except for the duds) Finally it was time to go inside.

  5. In February 2017, Bartels Middle School kids got awarded the chance to go tubing or bowling at cascade mountain or go to a public bowling alley but only if the students maintained good grades. Even though all kids had the chance to go bowling the vast majority went to cascade.

At cascade lots of kids would climb up cascade mountain just to slide back down over and over again. While the kids were there they broke a record of most tubes going down one slope all at once with over 60 kids!

Even through all the fun there were some casualties one 7th grader fell of his tube which resulted in the kid breaking his glasses, losing one of his shoes, and almost breaking his nose. It seems that there is always a danger when it comes to having fun

This reporter did have part of the fun at cascade and it was definitely a good award that the school gave the kids. I hope you enjoyed this article this reporter is shutting down for the night thank you and goodbye.

  6. Columbus Cross Country Meet

This is the day everyone looks forward to since the start of junior high cross country. It´s last meet of the year on October 9th. Everyone who entered the bus had their minds set on one goal, this goal was to make this race their best one of the season. They arrived at Columbus with their minds still focused on this race and they began to warm-up for the competition.

Shortly, after they finished their warm-up everyone gathered to the starting line. When all of the teams were ready the referee approached the field and held up the gun then started to count down. ¨Ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five,¨, then he paused, the man quickly pulled the trigger. Immediately, all the runners took off running.

During the race, Portage was doing very well at the start of the race with most of the runners on top of the competition. Slowly, they began to slow down and no knew why. The runners were incredibly tired and exhausted. They ran as fast as they could to try to make till the end, but they just couldn´t. When they finished they knew they´ve failed. People might of wondered was it because they started off too fast? Or maybe the had too much gatorade beforehand? We may never know, but they never gave up when they knew success wasn't in reach.

  7. Today we are going to talk about 3 homeless people in Paris, France 2017. They were in such a rich neighborhood, but no one even gave them any money! There were so many designer cloth shops, and lamborghinis. Maybe they the reason why they didn't give the homeless people money is that they thought they were faking. Also, maybe they thought they were too rich to give them any money. This event surprised the reporter a lot, because they were so rich, but didn't give donate. My last reason, is that maybe they didn't want to give is that they are a different race then all of the other people. That day of January, 2017 in Paris, Champ Élysées was a very tragic event that the reporter witnessed.

Overall, the reporter is still very surprised about the whole event that happened that day of January, 2017 in Paris, Champ Élysées.

  8. The Courage Retreat

On an exquisite November day in 2016, the Bartels Middle School 7th grade class was in for a treat. A Courage Retreat!

First, they had to walk over to the Portage High School. There, they would meet their Courage Retreat leaders and helpers. This retreat was to spread the word about bullying and it’s many effects. Once in the high school, they headed into the gym. It started with some fun activities. The 7th graders seemed to be enjoying themselves.

Then, it unexpectedly started to get serious and about bullying and it’s affects. There was an activity where people were allowed to share stories of bullying in front of the whole entire grade. These stories were making a lot of the 7th graders cry. This was one of the more serious activities. At the end of this, lots of people hugged and talked out some issues. Do you think that the 7th graders will change and start being more aware of bullying.

  9. It was friday the 13 of october. Bartels Middle School's 8th graders were having a melt down. Some of them were terribly sad. It was thankfully fifth hour on an A day so it was a choir day for everyone in choir.
Everyone was getting settled down. But then the unthinkable happened. Almost everyone started crying.
Most girls were already puffy but kept crying because their best friend had to go. Today was her last day and that night she would be leaving.
So they ask these questions why do you have to go? Will they ever see you again?

  10. Sometime in February 2017, the kids at Bartels Middle School either would choose to go bowling or sledding. So the kids who desired sledding went on the Cascade Mountain trip. But this year instead of Cascade Mountain, they went to Christmas Mountain.
At Cascade you needed to stand on a treadmill that would take you up, here at Christmas Mountain you would get your tube hooked to a wire and you would just sit back and enjoy the whole way up. Some people said that the best part of the whole entire trip was when everyone there at the top of the hill would all tie their tubes together and all slid down one single row. It was an amazing sight to see (Also very funny). One thing that would happen though was, the more people that were attaching, the bigger and fatter the group size got. And the lane widths were not that wide so when we started our descent people near the edge of the group would get ripped away and end up sliding down the other land.
However, watching people crash out of the lane made it even more thrilling. In the end, that’s pretty much what we did the rest of the day. The same large, large, group every time. When we left we were all pretty tired, and pretty sick because we ate lunch during the middle of the trip. And I don’t think sledding and full stomachs mixed very well.

  11. Drama, It's everywhere right? Well it is up there down there anywhere and everywhere. Just like at the 8th grade girls volleyball team at the Cardinal Heights Middle School in Sun Prairie. All the girls were playing having fun except for the two girls who got bench which was there own fault. Some of the girls from the A team were watching but not many.

The two girls whom which were benched showed up to school the next day to find out that some of the girls from the A team said that the two who were benched were talking crap about the A team saying that they could beat them. The coaches got defended and made us scrimmage each other. Dumb!

But at the end they were all still alive and fine but there will always be drama always has and always will be. That's just the way of life. Deal with it.

  12. It was the first dane of the year everyone was talking about it. Itś all everyone was talking about. The 7th and 8th grade already knows what happens at this dance. The 6th graders are in for a little bit of emotion change.

Everyone is talking about how this dance is going to be amazing and fun. But we all know how it's going to end. Emotions changing for 2 hours. Some people will dress up or match. Well mostly the 6th graders.

It was 6 oçlock the doors swing open crowds became running to the tables to pay. When you walk in all you hear is loud music. Once everyone shows up, things start getting real. The first slow song is always the worst. Drama going around , Girls flooding the bathroom in tears because they got rejected. It happens everytime.

Emotions fly through the air like a windy day. Trust me it's not the good kind. Itś mostly anger and sadness. But if you're lucky you will have an amazing night. Everything gets better towards the end. Most of the time.

When the dance is one most of the students run to culvers and eat dinner with their friends. That place fills up very fast. You would be lucky to even get food and a seat. But everyone has to leave around 10 pm.

The first dance is always hard. Your lucky if you just have fun and have a good time. Don’t let people get to you. Your perfect in your own way. Don’t start anything you might regret because you might lose someone close to you.

  13. It was a typical 3rd of October and portage had an away game in S.Prairie. Everyone was getting of when one of the orange 8th grade volleyball player said “ We’re at the wrong school.” The bus driver looked very confused, so he pulled out his cell phone and called the other bus driver that was on duty. Everyone was worried that they were going to miss playing.

Finally the bus driver go the right direction to the right school. Everyone was a little stressed out, but started to calm down. Portage pulled out a win they won 3 out of the 4 rounds. Many were excited since they have been so close to winning, but came out with a tie.

At the end everyone had to line up in a line and tell the other team good game with a little side high five. The coach from the the team congratulated them on there win. Many went home with a smile since everyone one won one round.

  14. October 1st, 2017, Sun Prairie Wisconsin.

Portage (3-0) vs Sacred Hearts (4-0) a great game is about to take place two undefeated teams are about to go to war. Portage punts on it's first drive then Sacred Hearts throws it deep on there first drive and it is intercepted by Cooper portages safety. Portage takes the field and scores by a Ace 82 G off rocket toss ran by Junior portages star running back. Portage misses the extra point so it is 6-0. Sacred hearts scores a touchdown there next drive and the game goes on.

Portage is down 30-14 at halftime and portage comes out with the kick return where the worst call in sports history happens. Junior is running down the sideline and he gets face masked hard to the ground and everyone sees it. But the referees didn’t see a single thing. Our coaches are freaking out along with portages players and it was a terrible job by the referees.

Portage ends up losing 42-30 but it was a very good game by both teams. Sacred hearts takes the win this time but next time it won’t be so easy.

  15. In San Francisco during the day there are a lot of street performers and homeless people trying to make money in the wonderful streets of San Francisco. They all look genuinely happy , even the homeless people, because they can just do their own thing and nobody judges them for the most part.

The people of San Francisco were all accepted for who they truly were and their magnificent talent. There was everything from playing instruments and singing to bike trick and tap dancers. In the streets of San Francisco almost anything is possible.

However it isn´t always bright and cheery in some people’s mind. There were some people that just couldn’t find joy in the unique streets of San Francisco. You wouldn't want to be one of those people, would you?

  16. Ms. Devries bad day
One day in a early october morning in ms devries classroom.

Ms devries was stunned “Graphic novels are band!” she said with great pleasure after reading a note that mr. reath gave her then she said that the state of wisconsin did resource that shows that graphic novels impair reading so they are now band.

She now has to get rid of all the graphic novels that she just got from the grant that she worked really hard to get, and also get rid of all of her already bought graphic novels.

Some of the students think it is a joke or a trick because it is very convenient that it was during the newscast lesson this narrator dose do you.

  17. On Monday October 16th the Portage Warriors Middle school Volleyball team had their very last home game as middle Schoolers. The girls were very excited.

The Girls played four games and we were all trying our hardest to win. The girls lost their first game but not by much. The second game they won and the third game they lost but i the fourth game the crowd was going crazy. The game was so close you couldn't tell if the we were going to tie or if we were going to lose.

The girls in the fourth game worked really well together trying to do the best they could. The girls serves were great and they were setting up the ball trying to score points. We had some spikes and good blocks. The girls got most of there serves over. There was a lot of pressure on the girls due to it being a last home game and because there was a lot of people there.

The girls had a great season. They lost one game and tied or won the rest. The girls ha a lot of fun. They all worked well together most times. They also enjoyed there last year of volleyball as middle school students.

  18. Every year at Bartels Middle School, there is a dance.Tons of students go to hang out with their friends and listen to music. Except for one problem, there is always so much drama! There are alway people crying in the bathroom because the boy said no, people sitting against the wall because a friend got mad at them of they got mad at someone else. Then there are the people who dance for two hours straight with any problems.
The first year everyone wanted drama, that how everyone got to know everyone. We all talked about each other's drama at dances. Why is someone was crying? Why did he say no to her? Then there is the good drama, like they finally danced together, or I knew they both liked each other. The first year of dances were ok but there was still some bad drama going around.
The second year were a lot better than the first year. Some people still cry, but most people danced for two hours laughing and talking to friends. There were 6th grader crying, but most 7th grader were dancing and having fun everyone was talking to every. It seemed like at the dance the there was no popular. Everyone talked to everyone. The second year so much better than then the first year. Less crying.
The third is so much better than the first 2 years. At the dances this year no one was crying. Everyone was dancing with everyone. Everyone was smiling and laughing. Some people even were telling people not to have drama at the dance. There was still drama, but not that many people were talking about it. Every year the school dances get better and better. Just imagine how next year will go.

  19. On a cool November morning in 2016 Middle School students were about to experience fun. A Kalahari trip was awaiting them! First, kids had to sell 12 items from a catalog to be able to go on the trip. This trip was for kids who took time out of there day to sell items to others. It all started when kids were asked to attend an assembly to see what was going to be happening.

Next, the principal came over the loudspeaker and announced “kids who sold 12 items report to the front of the school.” At that time kids were jumping out of there seats with excitement because they knew it was Kalahari time. They all gathered by the chaperones in front of the school to tell the kids what was going to be happening today. When they were done telling them everything about the day, they headed on the bus.

Third, once everyone was on the bus that was when we took off to the Dells. When we got to Kalahari the bus parked in the back and everyone walked through a private entrance to the assigned seating area. When everyone was together in the assigned area that was when we could start eating lunch. After we were done eating lunch we were free to do whatever we wanted but to be safe about it.

Finally, when it was time to leave everyone headed to the bus gleaming with happiness. That day kids had a blast with their friends.

  20. Everyone was so excited, but nervous at the same time for this game. It was the team’s very last middle school volleyball game. And everyone wanted to play their very best, so they could win. The game was at Beaver Dam Middle School. The team had high hopes for winning, since they had heard rumors of them not being too good.

When they got there, they started warming up and getting ready right away. No one wanted to waste practice time before the game. When the coin was flipped, it was decided that the other team would serve the ball first. The first match was ok, but not the best that they could’ve done, and so they lost. With every match, the score kept getting closer and closer.

Although the team had lost the overall game, they won just one of their matches. Which made them very happy. The next day, they would have a pizza party to celebrate this year's season!

  21. Rocket Launching

On Friday, September 22,2017 was the Rocket Launch Project for the awesome 8th graders at Bartels Middle School. It was behind the middle school on the BMS football field. The students got their rockets they’ve been working on since Wednesday earlier that week. The rockets were so cool, they had tons of stickers, colors from markers, tape, weird but cool names o them.

The students and teacher, Mrs. Karpelenia starting heading outside to start launching the rockets. It’s super hot outside it feels like we all of a sudden moved to Africa in two seconds, the kids’ and Karpelenia’s faces were bright red like a cherry tomato. The students were all complaining about how hot it was they sounded like they had to run a mile marathon.

At the field Mrs. Karpelenia picks out two boys to use the blue, small, plastic angle guns the measure the angle and how high the rocket goes, they were pretty cool they almost looked like little nerf guns that fit perfectly into your hand.

There were five different grops assigned a rocket to launch off. Mrs. Karpelenia explained to all of the groups how it works and what to do and push to make it work. There was a little remote control pad that had three buttons on it. You had to hold down both of the bottom ones to make the rocket to be able to launch.

Now, it’s time for the groups to go. The Disaster group got the highest time for the rocket’s hangtime(20.31 sec.) it was so fast you could barely see it even go in the air, Dancing Acorns got the second longest time(15.05 sec.) theres was pretty fast but not as fast as Disaster’s, the third longest group was Flight Squad with 14.34 sec. For their hangtime, they’re rocket had a bunch of stickers on it so much that they had to tape some down for them being able to stay on, the other two groups went but their’s didn’t launch.

It was 3:14 so almost the end of the day and their principal Mr. Reuth was on the announcments sayig his daily speech. The students and teacher hustle inside to grab their belongings and be on their way.
