The Giver - Chapter 3

In Chapter 3, we find out about the SPEAKER system in this society.  When someone breaks a rule, the speaker reminds everyone what the rule is and how to follow it - even the people who aren't breaking the rule.  How do you feel about this?  Reply to others' ideas as well.

Some things to consider in your answer:
-What about the fact that they announce it to everyone, not just the rule breaker?
- How do you think they know that someone broke the rules?
- Do you think it's an effective way to keep people following the rules?

  2. I think that they have hidden cameras all over so that they can see when a rule is broken. I think they tell everyone the rule because then everyone is constantly reminded. I think it is a very good way to keep the people following the rules because they have the rules constantly going through their heads.

    1. I like what you said but, how big are the cameras. Are they like the size of a bug or what.

    2. So do I but i think that they should go to that person only not to everyone

    4. How would they monitor everyone at once?

  3. I think it is cool. So that everyone will not do it or fix it. I think they know by using small bugs that send balk live feed. I think it is because everyone will stop the thing or fix the thing.

  4. I think they have drones that fly around to discover if a rule is broken. I think they say when someone breaks a rule to remind people of that rule so they don't forget it. The system is a very good way to remind people of the rules.

  5. I think the speaker should not be allowed to tell everybody the rules when they are broken because people shouldn't know when somebody breaks them because that just makes them think more about the rules and trying no to break them.

  6. The fact that they announce it to everyone and not just the rule breaker isn't that bad because its like a reminder to everyone about what the rule is and how to follow it so its like they remind you every now and then. So I feel that it's a reminder for everyone. Also I think that they have security cameras hidden in different places and that they check a monitor.

  7. I thinkIt is Lind of od dthat they know what we aer doing and when we are doing it. I don't think having thespekers are all that ba, but watching people is kindof really weird. I think it is good to anounce it to everyone, not single someone out and just to femind others. I do think thy are watching peoplle , and thats how they know what people are doing. I think it will helpwith keeping the rules unbroken, but you can never be sure.

  9. I think that the announcers should say it to everyone. If someone else is not following the rules they will know not to. The way I think they find out that someone is not following is that there is cameras. I would not be able to because I would want to pick my kids name and my job/assignments.

    2. I think that is a good idea to tell every one the so don't the same mistake

  10. I think that they should go talk to the person that broke the rule personally and they shouldn't announce it to everyone. I also think it's rude to tell everyone that they made a simple mistake. I think they know that they broke the rules is that they have cameras everywhere to see everything they do. I think that it effects the people a lot but they should still come to them in person.

  11. I think they announce it so they can learn by humiliation. the speaker might be a camera and a speaker. yes I think it is effective.

    1. I think that it isn't effective because it is just mean but on the same way it's effective

  12. Maybe they tell every one so no one else makes the mistakes. I think they have elders watching everyone. Yes I think it works.

  14. I would be afraid to do anything wrong but that is just what they want so I say no, the hidden cameras will not get the best of me! I think they know by cameras or telepathic abilities or it could be the matrix and there is that one super special person that is in control and sees everything. No I do not think it is effective because it is too intense.
