In Chapter 6, we found out that the Committee of Elders not only picks your job, it also picks your spouse. What do you think about that?
Before you blog, think about these things:
- Are there any advantages to it?
- Have you ever heard of anything like this in our society?
- How would you feel if you had a spouse assigned to you?
I don't really like how they pick the person you marry, but I don't think they really care, because they don't have any feelings. I haven't actually heard of having an arranged marriage in our society. I don't think I won't liked to be assigned a spouse here because if I don't like who they pick then I'd have to get a divorce (if you can) and apply again. If I were there I don't think I would mind because you don't have emotions and so you wouldn't love them, or know if you like the person.

DeleteI would not like to have them pick my spouse. If I did not like them it is not like I can break up with them and find someone else. I would have to have a kid with them and pretend that I like them. When I come home I have to come home to him and wake up to that and do it all over again.

DeleteI think it is a smart thing to do because than you do not have a lot of people getting unmarried. But then everyone does not like or dislike so no one would be happy about getting a spouse. But how do you know when you want a spouse.

DeleteYes, it would be the perfect match for you. I think there is a country that might do this. I would kind of like a spouse assigned to me because it would be the perfect match, but I would want to be married to someone that I like. I don't agree with them you should be able to choose.

DeleteIn there socitiy, I guess it causes less emotion, because you don't date. In our socitiy their are certain religions and familys, that don't let their children choose who they marry and they choose for themselfs. I feel like if they do they chose the perfect person for you to marry, so I feel like it would'nt be bad because it prevents mistakes, and emotions. I also think that you should have the freedom to meet and love whomever you chose. I honestly don't have a final opinion about this.

That is exactly right. If the elders take a year to pick, it must be perfect.
DeleteI think that might be alright because it is supposed to be your perfect match. If you took the pills it probably make you not care who it is, as long as the person matches you. If the person matches you it wouldn't really mater in this society because you can't feel the emotion of love. So I wouldn't care if I was in this society.

DeleteI don't like that you have to have an arranged marriage because you don't know who you're going to get and you kind of like them, but you don't. You might be angry at the elders for who they chose for you, but then you aren't. This is all because you don't have a lot of emotions!

DeleteI think that the committee of Elders makes all the decisions because they have been through it all and they know what it feels like to go through it.I don't think I would like a spouse assigned to me because I would want to find my own spouse and finding a spouse is important because you are going to be with them the rest of your life and I think I would want to experiment that.
ReplyDeleteI Think it's bad enough you don't get to pick your job. You want to work for money and everything but you still at the same time you want to in joy your job at the same time so it doesn't make you not even get up in the morning. I think for them to pick the spouse is crazy because maybe you should at least get like make a list of people you think you would be good with but you can't they pick it for you i think if you couldn't pick your spouse i think i would even want a husband.

ReplyDeleteI think that it would stink and I would just live alone and be that cool guy that all the kids like because how do the elders know who I will be a good match for. I've never seen anyone do that in our society in america but i have heard that in china your grandpa will sit in a park and hold up a picture of you that says this person is date-able and if someone wants to date you you have to go on the date. I think that one advantage would be that you don't have to worry about asking a person out or proposing but in the giver they take their "stirring" pills which seems to make them not fell love and that would stink so this society ears an f- in the love section of the society test.

ReplyDeleteThere are some advantages to it like, you don't have to plan everything and that's about it. I think that I wouldn't like that they would pick your spouse because then I wouldn't know who hey are and I would have to know all about them in three years that is not enough time to got to know someone. I have heard something like this in our society it's called an arranged marriage. I would not want this either because I would want to marry someone that I know and not some random person! I would feel that I don't fit in. Why would you stop taking your stirlling pills when you get to the house of the old? Would you get the stirllings back?
ReplyDeleteCan you even get a divorce in the community they have? What if you can't and you don't like the person you have. You don't have feeling though so how do they love and not love? They all get along and are a nice happy society. So how do you get married if you have no emotions or feelings really. You don't like them, but you might and again you're not 100% sure. So yeah I will not like that you have to get an arranged marriage, and I would not want one ever because 1 you don't know who you're going to get. 2. you might not like the person you get. And 3 you might not be able to get a divorce so you'll be stuck with the person you get and stay with him/her.
