If you had the chance to name the next Mars rover, what would you name it? Think of a name that would be meaningful for our country, the space program, humanity, etc. Once you decide on a name write a brief argument about why your name should be chosen.
Parts of the essay that Sofi Collins wrote to argue that the first rovers should be named Spirit and Opportunity is on page 20 of your text.
When you are done, look at others' ideas and reply to their arguments.
I think it should be Believe because it goes with Spirit and Opportunity. It also means to me "If you believe in yourself you can go anywhere" And that is just what Sofi did she believed that she would have Spirit and Opportunity to find a family who loves her!

Deleteif i had entered the contest i would have named it '"hope" because it took a lot of courage, faith and hope to make the Mars Rover.

DeleteIf i got to name a rover, i would name it Robo. I would name it Robo because, its a robot. So Robo is short for robot. Robo could mean so many different things but, what I would want it to mean, is Robot on Big Orbit. which means that he has a big mission out in the orbit of space.

DeleteIf I entered a contest to name a Mars rover, I would name it "Chance". The reason I would name it "Chance" is because in America, everybody must get chances to be free. Like in life, you must be given chances, like the rovers. So, if I entered this contest, this would be a good name because I would have a "chance" to name it.

Because people have dreamed about how mars looked like and what kind of climate it was and such.Also where there any life on mars people dreamed of if there was life on mars like if they were animals or humans.Finally I think it should be named dreamer because it can fufill dreams of scienceist and people around the world.

DeleteI think a good name for a rover would be Courage. Courage is a good name because it takes a lot of effort and courage to make a rover. It took years for NASA to finally accept Steve's rover idea, so it might take years to accept another one. If you don't give up and keep trying to get NASA to accept, you have courage. So I think that would be a really good name for a rover.

ReplyDeleteIf I could, I would name the mars rovers Inspire and achieve, because they are very inspiring and they did help us achieve things. The story is about Steve Squires failing and failing is inspiring when he finally succeeded. That's why I think they should name the Mars rovers inspire and achieve.

DeleteI think the rovers name should be Hope. I think Hope is a good name because there can be hope in mars and the mars rover. Also there could be hope for the launching and building. And thats why we should call the rover Hope.

DeleteIf i were able to mane a rover i would name it chance. I would name it chance because possibly it would be able to find other stuff the rovers missed like deep holes in the ground or even new forms of rocks and patterns. It would be able to take beyond our discovery, and maybe even even further. Personally i don't know if we ever would find anything further than what we already know but there might be a good CHANCE don't you think?

DeleteI would name a rover hope because hope is what we all have. It is would keeps people going. NASA has hope that we can try to live on mar. Hope help people get better. Hope is one thing that can’t be taken of you. Hope is what keeps me going during school. A lot of people depend on hope to keep their family alive. so if I win i will call the rover hope cause you can’t take it away.

DeleteI would name the rover Journey. I believe it is a good name because the rover is taking such a long journey accrost mars, also it is a good name because what journey means to me is a long hard and important trail to go and thats exsacly what the rover is doing.

DeleteI would name myn rover hope because everyone has hope and I would also characteristicts so that they or funny or something like that so that when people are down Hope would make them feel better. They could read about Hope and get all the joy from the words get the personal experience from tv, when you feel like you are there. It's an escape.Someday if my other careers wouldn’t work out making a rover named hope would sure be cool and I would want to make non-disfunctional rover that hopefully by our time we will have the technology where we could get better live feed through the rover.

DeleteI think the next rover should be named SOS. Not for save our souls, but for the past rovers.Sojourner, opportunity and Spirit, all equal in importance. SOS could have some of the same features as the others did but also some differences in tech. I believe SOS could be a very extraordinary rover and move the country forward as the nation's first SOS rover.

DeleteI think the next Mars rover should be named Challenger, because a lot of the people living in the world face up to new challenges every day. Also the name Challenger will remind people of the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster that happened in 1986, and so we should name the next Mars Rover after them for that they did not expect a disaster to happen and didnt get to see the Universe

Also i like his saying " I"m stubborn and stubbornness pays off.". I think that he was trying to say that the more you try the better chance you will have to succeed! And that's why i think it should be Steve!

For example Steve believed in himself when NASA kept denying his inventions... But he believed in himself and kept trying. Didnt give up! I think everyone should believe in themselves!! Thats why I would name it Believe!
