Language Arts - January 16, 2014
Write a summary of the book you are currently reading. It should include a little bit about the basic problem and a description of the main characters. Be careful not to include too much information and spoil things for others. Include just enough to make people want to read the story.
This will be graded with the blog post rubric. It will be a summative assignment for second quarter.
I am reading Beyond the Beautiful Forevers by Katherine Boo for book club next month.
ReplyDeleteIt's a nonfiction story about the city of Mumbai, India. This city has a huge divide between ultra rich and people who live in slums. It's sort of like Eden and the Urb that way. The story follows the lives of people that live in one the slums of Mumbai - Annawadi.
The main character of the story is Abdul, who is accused of burning one of his neighbors. He didn't do it; however, and the main focus of the story will be that crime. Will he be punished or will justice be served?
That book sounds like really good book. I liked The Last Book in the Universe so I think I'll like this because it sound kind of the same as The Last Book in the Universe. I think that I'll read it.

I am reading The Taste of Night by R.L. Stine
ReplyDeleteIT's a fiction book about to twin sisters Dee and Livvy, Dee is a normal person who lives an everyday life. Unlike Livvy who chose to become a vampire for all eternity. Dee is trying everything to bring Livvy back, but Livvy wants to be a vampire forever. Will Livvy come back home? or will Dee choose to be with her?
I am reading Diary of a Wimpy Kid Hard Luck, by Jeff Kinney.
ReplyDeleteMy book is a fiction book and the story is about this boy named Greg and he is having a hard time with his luck. His mom's side of the family is being very greedy trying to find his great grandmothers ring that she lost. Will his luck change or will it stay the same? Read to figure it out!!!
It sond like a good book I might read it.

ReplyDeleteThe setting is in Philadelphia and the main character is named Matilda(mattie for short). She, her friend Eliza, and her Mother run a coffee house that ends up closed because of a deadly fever. This fever has forced several people into the country to leave the fever behind.When Mattie's mother catches the fever everything goes wrong.
That sounds like a good book. And a BIG mystery about how they got it.

ReplyDeleteIt a fiction book about a kid named griffen and his friends who try to get a carde back from a pon shop dealer that riped him off. He found the card in the abandend house that got destrod but he thought the card was not worth a lot because the pon shop deler said it not worth a lot but it is real worth 1 millon doller so he has to get it back for the money for his family to pay bills so they don't have to move.
I love those books! I read them all I hope he comes out with more soon!
DeleteI am reading Diary of a Wimpy kid by Jeff Kinney. The book is all about differnet problems like the muddy hand.The muddy hand is like this hand that strangles people in a movie and greg was the last person to see the muddy hand and is woured about getting strangled by the muddy hand throught the book. Greg is the main charter.
ReplyDeleteI am reading My Side Of The Mountain. I have just started the book. So far he has ran away because they lived in the city in the apartment and there was no space for a familyof 11!!!!! So he ran away because he wanted to move in the country but the others didn't. So know his only friends are a hawk and a weisel.

This sounds like a really interesting book to read.A lot pf people and I mean a lot of people want to know how to live on Antartica.

That's nice and I also thought that Greg would get a girlfriend before Rowley did.

The main characters are Adam,Jake,and Mr.Hull the dad.Some stuff about Jake and Adam is they are in baseball together on the same team.The part im on is they are in a game and if they win they go to the championship game.Also they are down by one run right now.

They live in the wilderness when one day they were scavenging and a truck comes with two men and takes him his brother and his mom. What will happen to them where will the men take them?

ReplyDeleteIt is about this girl Rory who turns 12 and gets to do all this fun stuff that her parents had promised her. She thinks it's awesome having that much responsibility all at once, but will she learn that growing up isn't all that it's cut out to be? Read to find out!
I kind of want to read that book now. I wonder what she gets to do, and what happens to her that she realizes growing up is not fun.

ReplyDeleteThis book is about a girl named Emily who has a passion for animals. She wakes up one from a bad dream and senses that something is outside. She goes outside and realizes it is a dog. She nearly drowns trying to save it but she does. She realizes the dog is very badly injured. Will her and her family be able to keep the dog alive, or will they have to put it down?
That sounds like a sad book, yet it also sounds good, I might read that one!!!

He is a lot younger than everyone else in the challenge so he is at a MAJOR disadvantage.Can his friends help him survive every challenge?

He is forced to live with muggles(non-magical people). He gets a letter from a wizard school, Hogwarts, and is chosen to attend. Then, well, read the first book to find out what happens.

ReplyDeleteThis is a book about 4 groups of cats called, thunderclan, riverclan,windclan and shadowclan. Thunderclan has a problem,they have less food. The leader of the group Firestar wants to move to a different place but the other cats say no. But firestar daughter found a place where there is plenty of food for them.she and her sister leafpool went out to check the place but then a monster took leafpool. Now its up to her sister squirrelflight and the other 4 clans to help her from the monster. Will they save her read the book to find out.
My book is called Lost Childhood-My life in a japanese Prison Camp During World War ll by Annelex Hofstra Layson.
ReplyDeleteIt is about this little girl who is living in a dutch neighborhood in the town Surabaya. The war has not started yet but the family has already getting ready for it. They built a bomb shelter out of clay and this little girl dosen't really think that thats gone help because clay cant really protect you from bombs. The family is moving and they don't get to bring all of their belongings just a few simple things like cloths and some very special photo albums.
I am reading a Monster High book called "Ghoulfriends just want to have fun" by Gitty Daneshvari. It is a fiction story based on monsters who go to Monster High. But the main characters are Venus McFlytrap (She's a flytrap), Rochelle Goyle (She's a gargoyle), and Robecca Steam (She's a robot). They think that Miss Flapper is doing something bad and the three friends are trying to figure it out. Venus McFlytrap is working with Lagoona Blue and trying to save the planet. Rochelle Goyle is trying to get over the fact that she can't get her way all the time. But, Rochelle wants to know why Robecca is leaving early in the morning. What do you think the ghouls are going to figure out?

Rose is under attack and the people in the village . thorn wokes up all the dragons.and Bone is friend are trying to find gold. what will happen to the village and what will happen to bone and thorn. do they find the crown of horn .

ReplyDeleteIt is taking place in Tucson Arizona and usually it's a good place but not in this book. One of the main characters are Maria. These people are trying to hide from the soliders because they don't want to get caught but Maria's brothers got caught but they got one brother back. They are still trying to find him.
That sounds like an interesting book.
