The United States Constitution

We've been discussing the book with our table groups.  Now it's time to branch out and find out what others that are reading this book think.  Take some time to think about a part of the book that would make for a good discussion.  It can be any part from the beginning to the part you read for today.

Tell about the part you read, give your thoughts about it, and invite others to share their thoughts too.

Here are some discussion stems.  Choose one of the following or make a similar type of post.

The part that I thought was most interesting so far was _____________________________.  I think _________________________________________.  What did you think?

  1. I wanted to talk about the part where the author said "if you were to ask all 55 founding fathers what the common good was then you would get 55 different answers." I thought that was really funny because they didn't always agree with one another and they all has different intentions. What did you think about it?

    1. I agree with you Rylee, because still in today's politics everyone has a different view and answer. And some people are biased toward some things so not everyone will be on the same page.

    2. I believe that they all have a different opinion because they all want to be different to prove their point.

  2. I want to talk about the law passing part. I think the president should get more time instead of 10 days and if he don't do nothing with it, it automatically becomes a law. I think he should get more time to think if it should or should not be a law. what do you think?

    1. I disagree because I think that 10 days is more than enough time to decide if he wants it to be a law or not.

    2. I agree with Rylee...I understand that the role of being president is a very demanding job, but I still think that 10 days is enough time to make decisions about laws.

    3. I disagree, They should have either 10 days or less because that is more than enough time to make a law.

    4. Yes, but what if they are doing something and they are not there to see what it is. In that amount of time they would just make the law true . It could be a stupid law, too. The president might not like that would they?

    5. i disagree the president needs to pass a law quickly he doesn't need 3 years to pass a law and plus what if someone was trying to pass a law where the public get free access to nukes and the president didn't have time to say no to the law and i automatically becomes a law now that would be a problem

    6. I disagree. 10 days is enough for the president to think. There could have been something bad going on somewhere with lets say killing. Then the president would have had to make a quick decision on making the law or not.

  4. I want to talk about the part where they talked about the part with making laws. I think that when some politicians can try to pass a law and the president says no, I think that the president can't be disregarded when he says no to a law. What do you think? The part that I thought was most interesting so far was when they talk about

    1. If and when the president says no to a law, it can still be passed by the House. This is a part of the balance that creates the equal amount of power between the branches of government. Without that balance when making and passing laws, the president would have all of the power.

    2. I agree because they might keep trying to make that law become true and all. They might change a little thing, but it will really be the same type of law when they first started.

  5. I want to talk about why the president is also the Commander in Chief of the military. I think that this should be someone else's role because America's military is very important and calls for tough decisions in difficult times. While I know that there are any other people who help the president make these choices, I still believe that someone else should have the job of Commander in Chief. What are your thoughts on this?

    1. I agree, I think that they could hire someone for the Commander in Chief because the president job is hard enough for them.

    2. I also agree because the president has a lot of things to do and why can't someone else do it.

  6. I want to talk about the part in the beginning of all of the new chapters. I thought that it had a lot of information and not enough in all of the pages. It was also very confusing. What do you think?

    1. I also agree because there was a lot of information to read and it gets a little overwhelming.

    2. I agree because it seems that there are a lot of topics that are covered throughout the book and sometimes it can be hard to follow what the author is talking about.

    3. These would be really good topics for Confusion/Curiosity, right? That would help everyone understand.
