No Better Friend
We've been discussing the book with our table groups. Now it's time to branch out and find out what others that are reading this book think. Take some time to think about a part of the book that would make for a good discussion. It can be any part from the beginning to the part you read for today.
Tell about the part you read, give your thoughts about it, and invite others to share their thoughts too.
Here are some discussion stems. Choose one of the following or make a similar type of post.

I want to talk about the part where they are going to the first prison camp and Judy hasn't gotten caught or captured. I thought that was really surprising because either the guards don't see her or they just don't care that she is there. What do you think?
ReplyDeleteThe part that I thought was most interesting so far was how loyal Judy is to these men. I think that is really cool how she has stayed with them when they were on the sinking ship, stranded on an island, and now in a POW camp. What did you think?
I think it is really amazing how loyal Judy is to them. How she is trying to help them in any way possible, even if it means putting her life on the line. I also think it's really interesting how much the guys care and how protective they are of Judy.
DeleteI think it is also cool how loyal she is to these guys and how she tries to keep them safe. I also think it is cool how when Frank had just become friends with Judy he was already willing to give her some of his food.
DeleteIt is really cool that Judy is so loyal and tries to protect the men. I think it is awesome when she warns them about dangerous stuff.
DeleteI also think it is really cool. I also think it is cool how the men care for Judy.
DeleteSometimes I think that Judy knew how much she meant to the men, because she could have left at any time but she stayed with them anyways even though that situation was much harder than the situation she could be in if she left them. But I agree, it's cool how loyal she is.
DeleteThe part I thought was most interesting so far is when they were in the jungle and Judy got sliced open by the crocodile. I think it is cool that Judy survived and how she warned the survivors. What do you think?
ReplyDeleteI agree, I think that it is really cool how she knew that something was there and told the people.
DeleteI agree, I thought that that was really brave of her, because most dogs would probably just run away from the crocodile, and I think it's amazing that she didn't get killed by it.
DeleteI want to talk about the part where they are first being taken to the prison camp. I find it weird that they didn't take Judy with them. Did they not see her or just not care enough to take a dog as a prisoner? What do you think?
ReplyDeleteI think that they did not take her with so that they could try to keep her safe. They probably just knew that the guards would try to hurt her or kill her.
DeleteI totally agree with you. I think it is more that they don't see her than they don't care because if they knew she was making them happy, they would probably take her or kill her.
DeleteI think that they did not take her because they were scared that they would just kill Judy. They really do not care about the prisoners so why would they care about a dog?
DeleteI think they didn't take her because they didn't want her to get hurt. They probably thought that if they saw her she would get killed.
DeleteI want to talk about the part where they are trying to sneak Judy onto the ship without being caught. I thought this was weird because if Judy was already an official prisoner why would that have to hide her from the guards.
ReplyDeleteI don't think that she was an official prisoner of war because if she were, the guards would have probably taken her away.
DeleteI don't think that Judy was an official prisoner. The guards didn't know she was there, that's why they had to sneak her onto the ship.
DeleteI am not sure about that. If she is a prisoner why would they hide her? Maybe they did not want them to hurt her or seperate her from them.
DeleteI think that she wasn't an official prisoner. They were most likely hiding her because they didn't want her taken away.
DeleteI want to talk about the part where they give Judy their food. I thought that it was really cool because they all take care of Judy even though they are in a difficult situation. What do you think?
ReplyDeleteI thought that that was cool also, but it kind of makes sense because it would probably be really hard for them to lose her because it kind of seems like she's the only thing that keeps them happy.
DeleteI also think this is cool. It would be even worse at the camps if Judy wasn't there because she helps them in many different situations and keeps them happy.
DeleteI also think that is was very cool how she knew that something was there and tried to warn the men.
ReplyDeleteI wanted to talk about how the commander at the prison camp said that they were like his children and he was like their father, but then he said that if they didn't obey him he would chop their heads off. I thought that if he thought of them as his children the punishments wouldn't be that harsh. And if he has his own children, I'm a little concerned.
