You may be surprised that Scarlett Johansson is not only the highest-paid actress since 2018, but she is also a Beekeeper. Scarlett stated, “It’s very important to help our environment by doing the littlest things.” Picture this a world without honey, apples, cranberries, and melons, but thanks to honeybees we are able to have those items. Honeybees play a part in every aspect of the ecosystem. They help flowers, crops, gardens, and most importantly trees grow. And did you know that bees are one of the world’s most important pollinators for food crops.
ReplyDeleteSince World War ll the U.S. has lost about 97% of healthy wildflower fields. That means there is very little space left for bees to expand and to increase their population. Shelter for bees is being destroyed and is not only affecting bees lifestyle but humans too. There are almost 47,000 Beekeepers across the U.S. and only 12% of them are wild honey Beekeepers. The loss of honeybees in 2016-2017 was the highest in history decreasing by 40.7%.
Honeybees are not only out most important pollinator but they have some hidden talents. Bees are able to smell bombs above and below ground. Also, their venom can stop HIV cells from growing in humans. Many people underestimate bees but they are very important little insects
There are about 20,000 different species of bees and they all play a role in our ecosystem. The rarest type of bee is the Bombus Franklini. It is restricted to a tiny range in Southern Oregon and Northern California. Surveys were done by the U.S. Fishing and Wildlife Service, which showed that the Bombus Franklini are almost entirely incapable of observing in the wild.
Saving the bees isn’t a simple task but if we all play a part in helping them, it can be easily done. Many farmers have stopped using pesticides and herbicides because they both contain chemicals that kill the bees. Farmers have switched to organic sprays for their crops, so bees are able to pollinate their crops, get tons of nutrients, and stay healthy. Also planting a bee garden filled with herbs and flowers to attract bees. Supporting your local farmers, the more we support as a whole the longer we have access to fresh and organic fruits and veggies.
Bees are nature’s pollinators and they help provide our country with many different crops. Humans often are scared or are afraid of bees but they aren’t here to harm us. Without bees, every part of the world’s ecosystem would decline which is why they are so important to agriculture.

ReplyDeleteA man named Ismael Essome built boats made out of plastic for fisherman in need. He is not only helping people he is helping clean the ocean for animals. He started building”̈Eco Boats ̈ back in 2011 when a storm blew through his hometown. He looked outside and saw some plastic bottles fly by, He wanted to clean the ocean and give people something they need.
ReplyDeleteThere are many instances of why the ocean is being polluted like people just tossing plastic right into the ocean. Acts like these hurt marine wildlife to much. you know that plastic looks, tastes, and smells like plastic to the marine wildlife. Plastic pellets look like fish eggs which fish eat and humans eat too. Plastic is very cheap when humans buy it and it goes into the ocean they do not care they are not losing much money. More plastic has more marine animals dying by the second. It turns out 700 animals could go extinct just because of plastic pollution. Bystanders have documented animals swimming and eating plastic. PLastic affects our environment hugely. Humans could lose species upon species thats why humans should do something about this.
Some next step for humans could be cleaning the ocean up. Scientists say by 2050 if the society doesn do anything to help there will be more plastic than fish in the ocean. The society today could even help by cleaning the beach so the waves would not pull the trash into the oceans. If humans plastic goes into the oceans they should think about why that happened and help in some way so the plastic won hurt the wildlife marine animals.
Barara Mikurski says “each one of can make a difference . Together we can make a change.¨ Doing that simple thing humanity can end plastic pollution. That quote can help humanity in striving to end plastic pollution because all of the polluting should not be happening.
Picture this a bunch of students protesting for a boys volleyball team and girl football team. Also them protesting for trans rights in sports. But they are shut down. It all starts with Title IX.
ReplyDeleteTitle IX was made to help promote equality in schools. Title IX states that both men and women must have the same opportunities given to them. You may be surprised that colleges have problems trying to give men and women the same amount of scholarships due to so many players on football teams. But since Title IX girls soccer has gone up by 20% and basketball up by 15%.
One problem with Title IX is with Trans gender students. Should Title IX still apply to them? A man said “Times are changing, So should laws.” Another man said. “Maybe we just need Title IX altered a little.”
Next up for gender equality in sports we have boys volleyball. For a boys volleyball team school’s could be more successful. People would be interested to come and it would get some kids of video games. But the downside some school’s won’t have enough money for a boys volleyball and girls football.
Another problem related to sports is sportscasting. How many times have you heard a woman sportscasting? Not very many times I’m sure. 40% of all sports participants are women, and they only received 4% of woman sportscasting.

Women make about half of what men do in fact it's 49%. Researchers say that if it keeps going the slow pace it will take about 40 years for a women to have equal pay priorities. In 1963, Congress passed the equal pay act which made it illegal for employers to pay women lower wages than men for equal work jobs requiring the same skill, effort, and responsibility. In fact they made April 2 is equal pay day it marks the day U.S. women have finally earned the same amount of money as a man does. Since we have racial stuff going on hispanics have to wait until 2224 for them to have equal pay priorities. However African AMericans have to wait until 2130 to get paid equal pay.
According to researchers they say that pay priority is affecting women with kids, by not being able to support their family because of pay priority. Churches are trying to help people pay their rent because women cant afford it. The equal pay act of 1963 isn’t really affecting people, women are still getting paid less. There are clubs that women can join to try to help the women in need. People have put on social media to try and help the women in need people have hosted events to try to raise money for the women. Women have tried to negotiate their salary at work. The main thing women are trying to do is trying to re- enforce the equal pay act/ priorities.
A girl named spencer which is a professor at virginia and a girl named pane a security analyst. They both noticed they were getting paid less or had lesser titles than men. So they spoke out and got put into court. The gender pay gap is a problem because of a form of public policy perspective because it reduces economic out put and that women are more likely to be dependent upon payments. Another example of an act of uneval pay is oprah winfrey. Oprah was working for a nes station and realized that she was getting [air far less than her male coworkers who were doing the same job as her. She confronted her boss to ask why. After she got the answer she quit and started her own talk-show and became one of the most influential women in the world.
Who is Maxine Lampe?

When Maxine was hired, she tried to negotiate her pay to be paid head of the household, because at the time, her husband was still in graduate school. But she was told no because she was a woman and men were supposed to get that pay.
After she was declined by the district, she went to public school administration and asked if she could get a raise to help support her. Unfortunately again, she was told no because by then, her husband had become a professor. She was also told that her lower pay was fine for her by a board member.
The ‘Gender Pay Gap’ is a gap between how much women and men are paid in the same job. Take office jobs for example, in office jobs women are paid on average $37,220. But men are paid on average $44,296, according to AAUW’s studies. In most computer / mathematical science jobs women have the same problem like office jobs. On average they are paid $75,914, while men are paid $89,396 on average --Taken from a 2018 american community survey--.
In professional basketball there are two leagues. The NBA --Men's League--, and the WNBA --Women's League--. The WNBA’s highest player is getting around $115,000 a season, while some of the lowest paid NBA players are making almost $1,300,000 a season. The NBA’s officials are even getting paid more than the highest paid WNBA player, making averagely $150,000 to $500,000.
At starbucks --One of the most popular coffee businesses--, Both their male and female employees make the same. That makes starbucks one of the very few businesses in the coffee industry to support equal pay for males and females, according to Jeff Green, of the Seattle Times.
If you feel your stuck in a pay gap with your fellow coworkers, AAUW says to go around your local area, and look at the same types of jobs and see what their pays are. If they are decently different, talk to your employer and try to make it fair, like everyone else’s pay.
Also to help solve the ‘Gender Pay Gap’, AAUW is helping to train about 10,000,000 women by 2022 in pay negotiation. In doing so they hope it helps women fix their pay if they are being taken advantage of.

The sea life is having a hard time surviving without being affected by this microplastic and macroplastic. These numbers continuously keep growing and need to go down, or this will be the end

There is long term effects of plastic that majority of the world does not know about. Some of the worse ones are, if this rate of plastic keeps up the earth will be filled with plastic within 75-100 years, when plastic breaks down into the earth the earth has a harder time breathing with all of the trash in the earth. Readers may be surprised to find their are over 500+ long term effects.
New researchers recently discovered a plastic eating organism. The organism takes up to three days to break down the plastic. This discovery is truly life changing and can possibly same billions of lives.
There are several ways human beings can reduce the use of plastic, RRR(reduce, reuse, recycle).These are three steps needed to take action in helping the world become a better and safer place. Recycle, recycle all plastic and cardboard. Reuse, reuse water bottles cups plates etc. Rally, rally a group of people that can help you to clean up the plastic.

Homemade guns, last December police in Ontario busted a manufacturing ring that was making guns without serial numbers. Police also said that 3D printers are also making guns and gun parts.
ReplyDeleteLaw Enforcement Agencies are facing a new and growing problem otherwise known as “ghost guns.” The term “ghost gun” is known as a homemade gun that does not have a serial number or any identifying marks that enable them to be able to be traced back to their original owner.
According to a study an estimate of 287,400 prisoners possessed a firearm during their offence. 6% of the prisoners stole their firearms, 7% found them at a crime scene, 43% got them off the streets or on the black market. More than 25% got them from a family member or friend as a gift. About 1.3% of people got their firearms from a retail source and 0.8 of people got them from a gun show
About 64% of people got their firearms from a clerk that did a background check on them. Anouther 22% got their guns without a background check. Today their is now over 265 million guns are in private ownership.
Handguns are the most common type of firearm possessed by prisoners. About 1 in 5 state and federal prisoners who possessed a firearm during their offence.
Over 23,775 guns have been either lost or stolen in reports from Federal Firearms Licenses (FFL’s). Now with reports only 25% of lost or stolen guns have been found.
According to Phillip Cook from CBS News he said that the effort is neither easy or cheap and requires police and courts that have the necessary authority to do something for the gun efforts.

Azariah Cooper said “All you see is trash everywhere and it is disappointing” then she added “Generations to come will want this to be a place for people to come and enjoy themselves.” Plastic pollution is at a record high at fourteen billion pounds of plastic going in the ocean every year. If this a recurring problem by 2050 there will be more plastic by pounds then fish. This is being changed by many people including machines like the ocean’s plastic clean up device. This device can pick up 900,000 billion pieces of plastic from the great pacific garbage patch every five years. Also in 2018 malibu passed a law stating that stores and restaurants can not give out single use plastic. This law helps plastic pollution from rising to extreme levels. Plastic also produces other things like microplastics . Microplastics are getting inside the fish and eventually make its way to humans. Not only plastics releases microplastics many things we use microplastics like paint and even washing your clothes.Stuff can be changed only nine percent of plastic is recycled and that people overuse plastic.
Over the past fifty year global production has doubled. 80 percent of the plastic made for human activities and all the plastic humans use end up in the ocean. Plastic takes four hundred years to degrade.
Right now there is a problem and it can be resolved.

Linda and kathy plan on every year in total about 12 million people have participated and, about 210 million pounds of trash has been picked up. Linda and Kathy say they plan these cleanups because they love the ocean and the animals they all so want all the trash to be eliminated in the future so the animals are in good health.

These dead zones happened because of excessive nutrient pollution from human activity. Some dead zones occur naturally but some are caused. Rivers and lakes also have dead zones just not as bad as the oceans.

September 3 2019 a 15 year old girl was being clutched by her older brother. They were on their way to the girl’s quinceanera or 15 year old birthday party. When the most unlikely thing happened. They were shot at by a 36 year old man. The brother was shot in the arm and the girl was not harmed thankfully. The brother was sent to the hospital.
ReplyDelete“The shooter” said police, “did not pass 2 background checks but still got a gun from a gun show in Texas.” The shooter got a rifle from a gun show that did not need a background check to buy a gun. “It was unfortunate that the shooter got the gun.” said a man that was also shot in the instindint.
Even though there have been laws to stop this type of thing from happening. There are still ways to get guns. One way to get a gun is too go through a gun show. In Washington, Oragon, California, Colorado, Illinois, New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Connectcut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Hawaii you need a background check to get a gun in a gun show, but that is only 12 states that need a background check out of 50.
Some experts say that gun background checks are not needed because it costs more money than to not use them. If they really wanted to get a gun the could go to the black market or get one from the streets. Some experts say that they should put more laws in gun shows because there's a loophole that if you don’t pass a background check, you can still get a gun. Some experts say that “too many people are dying to guns today because they get guns from gun shows.”
There are people pushing to get more laws on gun backgrounds.
“We can't keep living like this.” These are the words of a twelve year old school shooting survivor. Today we live in a sad reality of young children fearing going to school everyday because of incidents like these.
ReplyDeleteLauren Milgram was only six years old when she had to go through a traumatizing experience. She was part of the “Sandy Hawk” school shooting where, “20 children and six adults were killed in one of the worst school shootings in history.” The shooter was 20 year old Adam Lanza and even after Lauren M. had to go through something as scarring as this, she has decided to join “March for our lives” protest after being inspired by Parkand students.
It is incredibly easy for kids and people in general to buy assault weapons in many stores and it is surprisingly fast. For example, according to a CNN reporter, a 13 year old decided to try to buy a gun in virginia to test the theory out. He got away with it in “under 38 minutes.” The reporter informes us “it was easier for a 13 year old from Virginia to purchase a .22 caliber rifle from a private seller than it was for him to buy lottery tickets, beer, etc…”
It is because of the availability to make private person to person transactions that makes gun purchasing simple. The majority of people performing mass/school shootings do not purchase the firearm through a federal firearm dealer. Because of this, nearly anyone who actually is determined to get an assault weapon can do so. For example, kids have many ways of obtaining guns, they can steal them from their parents, get them off people from the streets, etc…
Some people believe we should just ban guns as a whole, but many believe this would just cause more horrific problems. Studies show “the less guns control laws the more mass shootings” This is the main reason people believe we should completely get rid of them. Basically, the more laws put on guns, the less kids and some adults would be able to get a hold of them and cause problems.
In multiple other first countries, such as Australia, Canada, and Germany, require you to take multiple steps that can take up to months to get your hands on things like guns. We have more gun related deaths in twenty-four hours then most of these countries do in a year. This is a major issue.
But even if we do ban these guns, what about the ones that have already been bought? Some worry if we do ban these items, only the threatening people will have access to them. This is another concern people have that has not been resolved yet. Like always, just be safe when you are going out and make sure you know what to do if something like a mass shooting started. You always want to have a plan to protect yourself.
Many people want to know ways we can help the community but it is a complicated issue so there isn't one specific solution to it. Since this is the case, some ways you can help as much as you can is to lock up your guns so others can't get a hold of it. This way, kids won't be able to find the guns and steal of take them. In the end, we can’t do much to prevent these incidents so we will just have to wait for more laws to be put on guns.

Scientists say that not only animals but the oxygen in the air could be affected by plastic because of the plastic polluting our soil and plants.
The animal kingdom and the plant ecosystem are in danger.
Animals that go through trash for their food they might accidentally eat plastic because they think the plastic is food or eat leftovers and then clog their intestines or fill up their stomach so real food can’t get in their stomach and die from starvation or intention blockage. Also when looking for foods they can get their heads stuck in peanut butter jars, jelly jars, nutter butter jars, etc. which could cause suffocation, overheating, dehydration, and starvation. The plastic also can get wrapped around most animals legs and feet so it could suffocate their feet/legs resulting in losing (a) limb(s) or if they try to cross a road or try to run from predators it will slow them down and while ether situation the plastic could still cut their skin.
A story in this article says a buck had hay bail wiring wrapped around its antlers and 2 weeks later it was found dead with another buck because when they were fighting, they couldn’t get separated.
Even though most of the animals I have talked about life on the ground that can fly (like birds) are also in danger (even though some of the information above can account for the animals that can fly) because plastic could stop the ability to fly like it could get wrapped around their body and wing (which can cause serious damage) also if animals that make nests could make some of the nest out of plastic and have babies come they could get hurt from the plastic.
Plants and soil are now being polluted but are overlooked by the ocean. “This could translate directly to reduced penetration resistance for plant roots, and better soil aeration, and thus increased root growth. However, other effects are also possible: plastic films have been shown to create channels for water movement, leading to increased water evaporation. This could lead to soil drying.” This is what scientists said about the effects plastics can have on our soils and plants which is reinforced by the statement they said before “microplastics are changing biophysical properties and cause soil aggregation, bulk density, and water holding capacity” because of the chemical makeup (the compounds of making it) and it is all happening all over the globe by the microplastics are being spread out in the soil and are getting in agricultural fields, cities, industrial areas, and remote places.
There is a bright side that happened two-three years ago that could help or even stop plastic pollution. There are bacteria that were found at a Japanese plastic dump and it naturally evolved to eat plastic. Scientists found this bacteria and evolved the enzyme and made it faster and better at breaking down plastic bottles but break down the plastics in just a couple of days instead of hundreds of years. Scientists say if they could make it faster and stronger it could be the solution to plastic pollution and they are trying to get the enzyme to revert all the materials back to their original state reducing the oil and should reduce the plastic in the environment.
All in all the ecosystem is in danger. The animals getting hurt or even killed and the plants are slowly dying. The bacteria may be our strongest hope to stop the effects of plastic pollution.
