  1. Famous NFL Giants champion of 1976 Bobby Johnson was at one point addicted to crack-cocaine. His addiction left him homeless and almost led him to suicide. College is where Johnson first tried drugs. He had never seen crack-cocaine in his life until a woman brought it to a party he was at,where he then was peer pressured to try it. After that he became addicted. In an interview with Bobby he said this, “ I never used a drug in my life until I got to the university of Kansas. There, I smoked a little weed, drank a little beer, but I never did anything extreme till I met, crack-cocaine”.

A question that fills every judges mind is, “Should they go to a rehabilitation center or be incarcerated”? Some experts like Dr.Johnathan Erlen think that incarceration if the way to go. In one of his bibliography he said this quote, “You are either really into punishment, or really into treatment”. The United States has a solution to each drug-related crime, incarceration. Not only are people on the incarceration side they are also on the treatment side. “If all criminals including drug criminals are prisoned the populations would double”. Says an expert from a british study. Many prisoners will go to jail healthy and will be free with a mental illness mentally and physically. “If prisoners get treatment they will have less social issues”. Says the same british study. Right now the rate of inmates with a mental illness is triples its average. This statement informs us that the rates of someone getting a mental illness while in prison is higher than usual. Bobby Johnson once said, “Once you get clean and sober, good things start to happen to you”. So if you get treatment from a specialist it is easier to get you life back together and to quit drugs overall.

After rehab many people are left with, “Now what”? According to a treatment center in Tennessee, there are 5 things that need to be done after rehab. The first step is to get involved in an organization that is dealt to help patients with the first few days after rehab. They say after that to make new friends, delete the old. Rodney Robertson suggests that clients go through their phones and delete anyone who could have a negative influence on the,. The next step, is obvious but also the most important, follow your recovery plan. Some of the things included on a recovery plan deal with things like, group meetings, therapy sessions, and working with a sponsor. After you follow your plan you also want to stay busy but not overwhelmingly busy. According to Rodney Robertson “when you don't know what to do with yourself. Old patterns, thoughts, and behaviors can creep back in”.

The final step is to simply get help if you are still struggling because drugs are an evil enemy.

  2. A new research team led by E.Iharta and H.shimomoto have been researching a new Synthetic Polymer that in mild acidic conditions can be eco friendly than using regular Synthetic Polymers.

“The new Polymer, poly(B-keto enometer) has great potential to be utilized as an environmentally friendly material in the near future.” Says research team from Ehime university. It can be way less harmful to the world than Synthetic Polymers. This new Polymer is highly sensitive to mild acidic conditions, which degraded into a combination of defined low molecular weight compounds. Using this unique degradability it can become environmentally friendly. This new Synthetic Polymer can be highly desirable because of the degradability and it would help the environment a lot more.

For the most part, this new Polymer is very harmless. It is still a Synthetic Polymer. But way more helpful. There are some downsides to this new Polymer. Such as without the acidic trace it did not degrade. So it all depends on the acid.

According to Ehime University this new polymer “ has great potential to be utilized as an environmentally material in the near future.” This new polymer is way better than our old polymers. The research team is still trying to figure out things about this new Polymer but it could be our new future.

  3. Many scientists are worried and concerned about honey bees mistiming their emergence in the spring, where they'll emerge long after when plants are ready to be pollinated.

Climate change is disrupting the synchronized timing of when flowers/plants start to bloom, therefore when bees start to pollinate, there is limited nectar. You might be surprised to know that bees depend on visual signals and olfactory cues to search for nectar. And assuming you may not know what either of those things are, they'll be explained right now. Visual signals are things like the color of the plant/flower and the number of flowers per plant. Olfactory cues are the floral scents which are unique to each flower and plant. Bees have the ability to store these things in their memory, and utilize them when they are on the hunt for pollen. And so forth with the climate changing it has resulted in flowers changing their scent, and consequently because of all the stress on the plants, it causes them to release defensive compounds to protect them from harm, and it's these defensive compounds that are the ones that cause the flowers/plants to have their scents altered which makes it confusing and hard for bees.

The good news is, we can help try to put an end to this catastrophe. The first step is to protect and manage bee friendly habitats. For example some of their habitats are coastal areas, grasslands, brownfield sites, farmlands, salt marshes, etc. Another thing we can try to do to help is to plant more trees. As you know bees prefer to build hives on trees so therefore it may be a good idea to start thinking about reverse deforestation.

We can all help put an end to this unfortunate disaster. But will you help fight the fight? If all else fails it doesn't hurt to plant a couple of trees.

  4. We need to accept that climate change is an issue. The way that we treat our planet is the reason for climate change. We must do better. The planet's average surface temperature has risen by 1.62 degrees fahrenheit since the late 19th century.

The surface heating up is also causing forest fires in california which has been burning animals homes and peoples homes. It is also causing ice caps to melt and places of land at sea level like Louisiana are flooding and some places in other countries and it needs to stop. Also we need to stop using fossil fuels like oil, coal, and other natural gases like Co2. Why you ask because it is destroying our atmosphere and hurting our earth.

A way we could help is by investing in solar panels they are very beneficial but in the end if we all switch it will make a big impact. They may be a little costly but like I said they will help. They will also reduce the amount of heat that is being projected on the earth if they are just sitting there and absorbing it. Another way to help our earth is to invest in the industry of propane powered semi trucks. There are a few on our highways but they would help majorly. Along with electric automobiles like Tesla,Audi,Mercedes,Jaguar,Nissian, and Hyundai. Some of these cars are electric. In conclusion, climate change is a big deal and there is not another side to it. Something needs to be done and we as a community need to this and put to an end.

  5. Both Sides Of Immigration

Albert Einstein was an immigrant and he changed the world. By helping the U.S. win pearl Harbor with the Atomic bomb, also with his general theory of relativity, which revolutionized our understanding of space, time, gravity, and the universe.

According to the U.S. immigration debate, immigrants have risen about 14% of the United States population or more than 43 million people out of the total amount of 323 million according to the Census Bureau. And trump wants that to go down. But Lisa Christensen says different, “ states could lose an estimate of $11.74 billion in revenue if all undocumented immigrants were removed.” This would put the U.S. to go 587 billion more dollars into debt then we already are. Plus illegal immigrants are estimated to pay about 7 billion a year into social security, and they spend millions of dollars in extra which helps support the U.S. economy and helps to create new jobs. In addition if we did open are borders more violence/gangs/drugs, would become into the U.S.

To help immigration you could speak out about it go to different/ start a protest and could help allow immigration. Also you could give support by doing these things to help immigration.

This is a very complex topic. There are a wide selection of sides on this topic and it would be nice if you could help us. Because there are people outside our border dying every second and to help that is to make immigration easier to help them come to the U.S.

  6. Michael Brown in Ferguson Missouri, Erica Garnerin in New York City New York, Tamir Rice in Cleveland Ohio all shot by a cop and killed. Tamir Rice was 12 years old. Michael Brown was 18 years old. Erica Garnerin was 27 years old all so young when they died.

Interestingly both white and nonwhite officers are equally likely to be concerned about appearing racist or violent. Officers who were highly concerned about appearing racist reported lower confidence in their authority. So lots of police officers are scared or worried about appearing racist when they are trying to do there job. Police are trained to use their moral authority as peace offers to resolve conflicts. Potential negative influence of stereotype threats such as the “racist police officers”. There’s a growing momentum to take down the confederate flag because of its racist meaning people are getting very frustrated and want it down. The police officer who shot Tamir Rice was not charged in Tamirs death was later fired for lying on his job application.

According to phillip Atiba “police should examine policies that have disparate racial impact”. In an article about the #don't shoot movement which became popular after the killing of Michael Brown, “lots of african americans stood with their arms linked to show they were unarmed”. A story from 2017 by sirry alang said “ police brutality isn't just about people dying during interactions with law enforcements”. It's about not being treated different because of skin color.
If you ever see someone being treated differently mayb step in and defend them as best as you can or just try your best

  7. This Interviews Uncle got arrested for using drugs, he needed help, he needed to get treatment. But instead he got locked up with violent people when he had a disease. While this interviews uncle was locked up treatment was not provided while he was in there, nothing to help him change. After he got out he was able to get treatment and change.

This may be surprising to know, treating addiction is possible but it's not easy, It’s a chronic disease, people cannot simply stop using drugs for a few days. Most patients need long term or repeated care to stop and recover. Addition affects parts of the brain involved in reward motivation, learning, memory and control over behavior. Effective treatment addresses all of the patients needs, not just his or her drug use. In an interview with Samantha Glunk she shared “ “Addiction is a disease that makes you too selfish to see havoc you created or care about the people whose lives you have shattered.”

To begin, Law Enforcement is concern about this process. To start off, the United States not only imprisons more people than any other nation in the world, but also criminalizes entire communities with an over-reliance on aggressive policing, and other criminal justice system to solve social problems. This system causes harm to families and communities. Then, Law Enforcement realized putting drug users in jail does nothing. This may be new to society, but criminalizing millions of people for drug offenses has created public and for- profit systems of punishment that have bankrupt us morally. In an interview with Mark H. Moore and Mark AR. Kleiman they said “ The community working with the police intervention that would be most effective in helping them reclaim their streets”

According to expert Ethan Nadelmann he said “ If the US did helping services in clinics, abuse and disease overdose will go down then, health and wellbeing will improve. In other words, people who are addicted to drugs need to have quick access to treatment. Instead of being put in jail. If law Enforcement could agree with this they could see that treatment plans are reviewed a ton and modified to fit the patients changing needs. Even though not every treatment is right for everyone the treatment centers will try and find new ways to help the addict.

Law Enforcement sees drug users as criminals, while treatment center say its a disease and they need help. Digging more into this issue it doesn't seem to have a right answer. Right now it stands as a debate, Jail or treatment?

  8. Boyan Slat created a device at age 17 years old, he is now 22 years old. This device goes through the ocean cleaning up the plastic and garbage. Boyans creation has gone back and forth through the ocean 1.5 million times since its been in the ocean. Boyan is aiming to clean 1,000 of the most polluted river responsible for 80% of the oceans plastic pollution. The device is capable of extracting 50,000 kg of trash each day, or even 100,000 kg.

Many people have been working hard to save the ocean. Boyan Slat is world wide known for his creation. Boyan has a team of about 80 people working with him.
Hanli Prinsloo is also someone who is fighting for clean oceans. Hanli is the founder and also the CEO of oceans conservation trust called I AM WATER.
Plastic pollution doesn't just harm animals, it harms humans too.
Some ways pollution harms humans are, the chemicals ingested by animals we eat can harm us in various ways.
Toxins such as lead, cadmium, and mercury have been found in many fish.

Picture this, a world everywhere you look into the ocean you see garbage and plastic, no sea creature to look at in the aquariums, no fresh drinking water. Do you want to live in a world like that? Here are some suggestions from Oceana USA that will help save the oceans. A big way we can reduce plastic in the oceans is by using reusable produce bags in grocery stores. Another suggestion is completely stop chewing gum, chewing gum is the second most common litter source because it doesn't biodegrade. Boxes are also a better idea than bottle, glass and plastic. A big thing that would help is avoiding gas powered lawn equipment. Something a lot of people have stopped using plastic straws, but we can do more and stop using them in restaurants too. To reduce energy you can look for an Energy Star label when buying home and office equipment.

Plastic pollution is a real problem that a lot of people don't address, We don't have a lot of time to waste, the oceans are getting worse and worse. The ocean isn't going to fix itself, so we need to take charge and save the ocean and the animals in it before they're gone.

  9. Immigration has had an impact on the world. The rules of immigration have been changing over the past few years.

How have the rules of immigration changed?
In 1989, Congress enacted another law, the Immigration Reform and Control Act that granted legalization to millions of unauthorized immigrants, mainly from Latin America. According to PewResearch, “The law also imposed sanctions on employers who hired unauthorized immigrants.” Following laws in 1996, 2002, and 2006 their were some thoughts about terrorism and unauthorized immigration. The most recent changes in immigration policy have an exception to that pattern. “In 2012 President Obama took executive action to allow young adults who had been brought to the program DACA and set up a new to offer similar helpful steps to some unauthorized immigrant parents born in the U.S, according to DailyWire.

  10. Entrepreneur Guillaume Gauthereau cut the ribbon on a novel 50 to 100-acre honey bee sanctuary a few ago in the Catskills in upstate New York. “The sanctuary provides a safe haven for a variety of bees and pollinator-friendly flowers, fruit trees, and berry bushes,” Gauthereau said. The sanctuary has 50 to 100 beehives, with a few million bees placed in specially constructed bee houses on the sanctuary. “I wanted it to be more than just a refuge for bees, I wanted it to be a message,” said Gauthereau. Now, this is a man that helps and continues to help, but it can be a lot easier than that.

One of the largest threats to bees is the lack of habitat due to urban sprawl. If you notice a lack of green space in your neighborhood, try to plant something bee-friendly or nectar-rich plants where ever it may be.

Fertilizers, synthetic pesticides, and herbicides are harmful to bees. So, try to avoid using harmful pesticides like those. Try to use more organic pesticides and try to only spray at night when pollinators are least active.

Flowers help feed bees and other valuable pollinators. Another easy thing you could do is plant a bee-friendly garden. Avoid hybrid flowers, which may be sterile and have little or no nectar or pollen. Make sure you’ll have blooms for them year-round. Plant them in patches, bees like to focus on one flower at a time.

Did you know that bees get most of their nectar from trees? Trees are a necessity to bees because the leaves provide nesting material and natural wood cavities make great shelters for them. About 70% of bees live underground and about 30% live in holes inside of trees or hollow stems. Why not try to keep an untouched part of land for them where ever it may be on your property? Whether it’s your garden or just your lawn.

As you can probably tell, there are many reasons and causes of the bee population going down. Bee expert Dr. Reese Halter said, “Bees are dying from introduced insects, bacteria, fungus, and poor husbandry - including being fed corn syrup instead of honey - and the systemic use of chemicals called neonicotinoids in pesticides.” To add on to that he said, “Neonics are in high concentrations in most home gardening products. They kill soil and water organisms. We know neonics kill bees, yet over 2 billion pounds of them are used globally each year.” Halter is adamant the end of bees would herald the end of man. “We need healthy bees to survive on the planet, Dr. Halter said, bees give us our food, our clothes (cotton), 450 million pounds of beeswax in America annually. Also powerful APIs therapy and pain medicines for rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia, and multiple sclerosis. When the bees die, we die.”

Robbin Thorpe who has been studying bumblebees for more than six decades was asked how humans are contributing to the extinction of bees. He replied, “There are many things we do that are detrimental to bumblebees and other important pollinating insects, including alteration and destruction of their habitats through agricultural and urban expansion as well as pollution, and pesticides, and the introduction and spread of their natural enemies.
Now, if all of these experts, researchers, and entrepreneurs are saying that people can’t live without bees, wouldn’t you think so too?

  11. Do the harsh winters of the years 2018-2019. This years since 2010-2011. Without bees, how will we get our honey to put on food. How do we get honey for in ingredients in food. It just won't taste the same because the bees produce honey from the flowers and pollinate crops. The bees get the honey from the flowers for us to have honey with our food. People don't want the bees because they may be deathly allergic. Some people just don't want to be stung.

Beekeepers lost about 38% of their bee colonies. 47,000 people over 5 states care for the 12% of the bee colonies. Bees are dying from pesticides drought habitat destruction, and more. Honey bees are perform about 80% of pollination all around the world. The honey bee is the primary bee all around the world. A beekeeper that has been taking care of bees for over 42 years reported that 90% of his bees throughout 3000 bee boxes have died from pesticides drought habitat destruction and more.

Scientists know that bee boxes or bee hotels provide a hive for solitary bees that don't live in a swarm like honey bees. You could use tools and stuff, and build your own bee hotel for any bee make a bee box for honey bees do whatever you can to save bees. Many people think that you should make something for the bees because with the harsh winters there are 20% more bees dying. The winter temperatures are dropping to below zero make something so that they don’t all die because some bees make stuff for us, and the food they give us is honey. The bees work hard for us to get honey.

People usually say bees don’t belong but they do. A bee has a life like a human. We are a lot like bees. If you bug a bee they will get mad and sting you but if we get bugged we will get mad and attack you.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Do you like honey? That means do you like Jazz? Well the bees need our help and if we don't help them that means no honey and no Jazz. The bee population is dropping because of Pollution and of climate change but there is just three easy steps to help them. Scientist say that Nictoids are very dangerous for bees and that we should stop using herbicides and we should be using organic herbicides. Three out of five bee farmers say that they all have their very own bee garden just for the bees to be safe.

Scientist say that Nictoids make it so the bee’s are two thirds more likely to die away from their hive because they leave and they die do to the nictoids. But science shows that if bee farmers use different substances beside nictoids the bees will be better off without Nictoids compared to having Nictoids.

Herbicides are some of the worst things for bees because. They make the bees really sick then they end up dying. It is really bad because a lot of people use them and if everyone used Organic herbicides that don't have all of those harmful chemicals it wouldn't be harmful for the bees and that means the bees are gonna sound like smooth jazz in the air.

Three of the five bee farmers interviewed said that they themselves use bee gardens becucase the bees have a nice place to relax and just be safe. They also can repopulate because the numbers of bees are going down and if we all have bee gardens we can help them a lot.
One of the bee farmers said it doesn't take much to make a bee garden, It just takes a tote and just fill it with dirt grass and flowers and in no time the bees will arrive.

  13. Last March, a dead whale was found in the Philippines with eighty eight pounds of plastic in it’s stomach. Later that month, a dead whale washed ashore in Italy. The whale had fifty pounds of plastic in its stomach. Ocean’s are being polluted by plastic and a big part of that problem is single-use plastics.

Visitors are no longer allowed to carry in single-use plastics into Peru’s 76 natural and cultural protected areas, from Machu Picchu to Manu to Huascaran, or national museums. This was announced as a supreme decree by Peru’s Environment Minister, Fabiola Munoz, and signed by president Martin Vizcaarra, back in November 2018. The decree says the goal is replacing single-use plastic with “reusable, biodegradable plastic or others whose degradation does not generate contamination by micro-plastics or dangerous substances.”

About 91% of all the plastic we put in the recycling bin actually can’t currently be recycled, anything dirty or contaminated by food usually gets sent to a landfill. 95% of what is chemically recycled can be reprocessed. With chemical recycling, the plastic is broken down to it’s core building blocks, down to molecular level. Mechanical recycling takes the plastic and reforms it into a usable pellet again.

There are some good things about single-use plastics. SIngle-use plastics are a key part of infection control, for example, having a blood test requires gloves made from plastic. There’s also a plastic syringe and a plastic vial. Single-use plastics also play a role in scientific research.

There are many ways you could help stop plastic pollution, and specifically, single-use plastics. You could start buying and using reusable materials, for example, reusable shopping bags, cups, and straws. You could buy a water filter instead of buying plastic water bottles, and you could choose clothing that is made from earth-friendly materials instead of microfibers or other synthetic fibers. There are also many environmental groups that you can contact to join. You could help them do beach cleans and many other things to help the environment. Agilyx’s Bill Cooper was in an interview with cbs news and said, “ With chemical recycling, we’re taking a single-use item and making it poly-usable multiple times over and over and over again.”

“People were really upset and having a political debate about whether plastic is good or bad. Plastic is good if it’s used smartly, and bad if it’s used poorly.” Mr. Rossi, an architect, said in an interview with New York Times. “When a fishing net reaches the end of its life, they just cut it loose and let it go into the ocean, where it does a tremendous amount of damage. Marine animals get tangled in it and killed, and it can destroy ecosystems on the bottom” said Robert King, the Chief executive of Humanscale, in another interview with New York Times.

  14. In 2008, a resident of Oregon named Barbra Wagner was told her lung cancer had returned. She had advanced lung cancer. But to make it worse, her insurance wouldn’t pay for her treatment. However, they said they would pay for “lethal barbiturates” if she decided to participate in Physician assisted suicide. Other terminally ill patients have also been told this by their insurance companies.

You may be suprised to find out that Physician assisted suicide and Euthanasia are spreading through out America and Europe. Physician assised suicide is where a doctor prescibes medication to a patiet, knowing that they may commit suicide. Euthanasia is where the doctor uses one of the legal ways to kill a patient. Patients like Marieke Vervoort who had degenerative muscular disease that was spreading up her body and leaving a paralyzed trail. But she had done a lot in her life and she was ready to leave. She chose to do Euthanasia, but she was also surrounded by her family. They way she wanted to go. She lived in Belgium, one of the countries Euthanasia is legal. But different countries have different rules about Euthanasia. In America, you must be terminally ill. You must have 6 months or less to live. There's more that has to be aligned before a patient can choose Euthanasaisa or Physician assisted suicide.

However, according to Yvonne Mak, Glyn Elwyny, and Ilora Finlay of the University of Wales, college of medicine in Cardiff, “Countless debates have been held on Euthanasia, but little research has been done into the experiences of the patients who request it.” Studies have indicated that better end of life care could reduce patients desire for death. This would make Euthanasia and Physician assisted suicide less appealing. With good palliative care, people could still die in comfort and die with dignity. And there’s always the chance for a miracle. Like the miracles of Ellen McDonald. She was told 5 times that she had cancer. The last time she was diagnosed with cancer, she was 52 and told it was likely she would die.She was 100 when she told her story. Not everyone who is diagnosed terminally ill, is actually terminally ill.

Josh Shipp, a motivational speaker once said, “You either get bitter or you get better. It’s that simple. You either take what has been dealt to you and allow it yo make you a better person, or allow it to tear you down. The choice does not belong to fate, it belongs to you.” There are many organizations that can help patients to fight illnesses. They are there to help and they’re willing to help.

Ryan Spellecy said “I think it’s too early to legalize it in the United States, but I don’t necessarily see a great call in it either.” He’s an associate professor of bioethics at the Medical College of Wisconsin. He teaches his students to do the right thing and save lives, not take them.

  15. Drugs legalization is a problem. There has been legalization debate on marijuana that has cost the US billions of dollars. It’s just one of the many ways the political and scap is changing in the US.

When addicts will not have substances easy access to illegal substances they will not experience the heights or hallucinations that will drive them to comitcrimes. Any person drug-related movies that introduce and imposed the war on drugs are the same people who could be prdding the illegal substances.

America has fought a losing war, it’s time to end it. What is the best way to control or deter undesirable behavior? Most of the time the answer is criminalization. Make the behavior illegal and using coner. The Baker Institute hosted a conference titled “The War on Drugs Has Failed. Is legalization the answer?

  16. Honeybees are important, so important that the honeybee population alone is responsible for more than 5 million dollars in crops each year. When it comes to what is endangering the honeybees Pesticides that farmers use are mentioned a lot. Same with the Colony collapse disorder. But that's not the only thing killing off the honeybees. Maybe honeybees are killing off other species too.

There are about just enough flowers for both honeybees and wild bees. Except for honeybees get very competitive. Leaving not many flowers for the wild bees to pollinate. Resulting in those species dying off.

Lecturer in conservation ecology, Olivia Norfolk stated “Honeybees are extremely efficient at collecting pollen and returning it to their hives. However, honeybees are less effective at pollination than wild bees.”So wild bees are just as important as honeybees.75 percent of crops are reliant on animal pollinators. There are other pollinators like flies, butterflies, and bats. A good chunk of that 75 percent comes from bees.

Honeybee hives are traded locally and internationally. This allows for a rapid spread of diseases to occur. These diseases that honeybees catch are viruses and parasites. Varroa mites are a parasite that sucks bees blood and circulates viruses. The diseases can spread from managed hives to wild bumblebee populations and spread between wild bee species when they visit the same flower.

You may be surprised to find that pesticides that farmers use on their crops are killing bees. Neonicotinoid is a chemical that farmers use. Neonicotinoids are getting into flower soil. The chemicals spread through the flower. Then when the bee goes to pollinate the flower it takes in a dose of the chemicals killing the bee. If the bees are lucky it only takes in a small dose. However, they become intoxicated and have a hard time making it back to their hive.

Albert Einstein once stated,” If the bees disappeared off the face of the earth, man would only have four years left to live.”Bees are extremely important to the environment. If you feel the same way and want to help. You can do something as manageable as planting flowers. Conversely, you can spread the news and help aware people that honeybees hives should be traded internationally as little as possible so the diseases cant spread as much. You can also encourage people to use little or no pesticides.

If we don’t save the bees. What if 5 years from now bees go extinct.Nows our chance to make sure that bees are safe. So help take action to save the bees.

  17. A week before October 12, 2018, president trump signed a legislation to better clean up the oceans. To increase all efforts, but is it enough? Is signing bills, passing laws, and making bans enough to save the oceans?

According to Bill Cooper, 91% of the plastic the world tosses in the recycling bin cant currently be recycled, but chemical recycling can change that. To find out more this reporter interviewed expert Bill Cooper. Bill Cooper explained, “With chemical recycling, we break down plastics to its core building blocks down to the molecular level”. He continues to explain deeper into the topic “Any plastic dirty or contaminated with food usually gets sent to a landfill. However, meat and fish packaging do not affect the chemical recycling process.”

You might be surprised to find that only 8 out of 50 states in America have plastic bag bans. five cities have plastic bag bans along with fees. Washington D.C. is one of the five cities to add fees to there plastic bag ban. Other countries around the world are trying to help out too. In the UK and Ireland, Mcdonalds, and Starbucks plan to go plastic straw free by 2020. These are major companies so it's always nice to see the help out. You can see lots of changes from Hong Kong and Ireland. Plastic bag use in both these countries has dropped a whopping 90% since 2002. Many experts say plastic will outweigh fish in the oceans by 2050, judging by that 8 million tons of plastic enter the oceans every year.

Bill Cooper also mentioned that “Chemical recycling will be the future of recycling”. This reporter interviewed Scientist Ted Siegler who was very passionate about the topic of plastic pollution. Ted Siegler explains “This isn’t a problem where we don’t know what the solution is, we know how to pick up garbage anyone can do it. We know how to dispose of it. And we know how to recycle”. Sarah Engler an author for the NRDC (Natural Resources Defence Council). States “Instead of using so many plastic water bottles use just one reusable water bottle and carry it with you. If you’re worried about your local tap water buy a water bottle with a built-in filter”. Sarah Engler also Mentioned “buying items second hand like at garage sales, thrift stores, or postings online that were just as good as previously used. You’re bound to save a couple of bucks too.”

Single-use items make up 89% of all plastic pollution in the ocean. So what are you going to do about it?

  18. Imagine your a child in a dreadful drought. You were sent by your family to a government run water-pump. While standing the line of children, you can’t remember the last time cool water ran down your dry throat. This event happened earlier this year in Lamhata, Utlar. Extreme events like these have been becoming more abundant. Experts in climate science believe that extreme climate and weather events are linked to climate change. “Things are getting worse,” said Petter Taalas, who is the Secretary of the World Meteorological Organization, “It’s more urgent than ever to proceed with mitigation.”

First, floods are the most common natural event in the United States. Not only that they are one of the deadliest! And there getting worse. According to the NRDC, experts expect the nation’s floodplains are going to grow by 45%. This is happening because hotter temperatures equals more evaporation which creates more moisture in the atmosphere. Which ends with heavier precipitation. Experts say that sea levels have risen by 3.4 millimeters per year from 1993-2015. Which has flooded many coastal cities.

On the other side of the spectrum, droughts have also increased in many parts of the world. More evaporation also leads to more droughts. Due to heat, wildfires have also greatly increased. So much so that wildfires in the amazon could double by 2050! Many species have already started moving to new locations due to these changes.

Next, the really extreme weather like hurricanes and tornadoes have also had many changes as well. Scientists say that there will be fewer hurricanes in a warmer atmosphere. Although they will be more dangerous and intense. This is due to warmer sea surface temperatures and sea levels rising. According to InsideClimate News, tornadoes have had almost opposite effects. The tornadoes don’t seem to increase in intensity, but there seems to be multiple days with tornadoes more often.

Finally, it’s time to talk about solutions to this major problem. Although fixing it isn’t as simple as one would think. “The only solution is to get rid of fossil fuels in power production, industry, and transportation.” said Dr. Taalas. This solution is much easier said than done. A couple of scientists won’t just create a magic fix to this huge problem one day. Experts say that they need the cooperation of all nations to help fight climate change.

Otherwise, we may be in for many changes. Some of which will need preparation for extreme weather!
