  1. In Champs-Elysees, early spring three homeless people were sitting on the sidewalk. Some people think they are faking and do have money, because they have cut hair nice clothes and a blanket. But they are in an expensive area so even if they just give old clothes it's going to be nicer than average and it wouldn't be much to give a little to the homeless for the rich.

  2. On a warm summer day near the end of July in 2018, A 12 year old girl decided to get a haircut at a place called “Cost Cutters” in Portage WI. It wasn't just any normal haircut/trim. She decided to cut off all her long blonde hair. She had long hair for almost all her life. But she was tired of having long hair, She wanted a change. But it was quite a nerve-wracking thing for her. Because she didn't know if the new change of hair would look good or not. And it's not like she could magically grow it back after she got all of her hair cut off. But after it was over and she looked in the mirror, she was actually quite happy with it. And since then she hasn't tried to grow it back out.

  3. It was a perfect morning with the sun breaking through the clouds. As all the racers were preparing their horses and stretching, I was nervous.Midnight who is my 4 time champion horse gave me the smallest bit of hope. All these other racers looked focused and almost professional. I start to look at who my competitors are and I notice only one of them is a boy. I’ve been competing against boys for as long as I can remember,so its weird to see only one. I stop thinking about him and how suspicious and upset he looks and I start to focus. I see my competitors who all look to be friends laughing at him. I stood there trying to figure out what their laughing at. For all I can see he looks like a normal boy to me. The pull his overall strap far back that when they let go he flinches ad rubs his chest. They all laugh and wish him good luck in a snarky voice as they stomp on his feet, laughing as they walked off. I stand their not knowing what to do, I never thought I would see something like this happen, especially in this nice town full of nice people. He's standing there head down not moving. I’m building up the courage to go talk to him when I hear, “Racers take your stalls”. The announcer was booming over the crackling speaker. I walked over to where Midnight is posted and I saddle her up and leap onto her shiny black coat. As Midnight is trotting over to the starting line he is preparing his horse and hopping on. The same girls pick the stalls closest to me and give me some dirty looks. I look forward brushing off their hate and start to focus. “You can do this”, “you can do this”. I keep repeating this in my head till I hear the gunshot. BAM!. The stalls open and Midnight takes off, I struggle to stay on her back because this is the fastest she's ever ran. Im straightening my self on her back and before I know it we are across the finish line. “Alyssa Andersen with her champion horse, Midnight take first place once again!’ The announcer booms. I rub midnights back and make her do a 360 to look at the dirt we just ran across. I see him, laying on the ground. I hear the girls laughing and I start to listen to what they are saying. “I can't believe you pushed him off that was hilarious. I was shocked. They cheated I told myself. I went to get my trophy while a bunch of old people congratulated me. I gave midnight a treat and went to talk to the boy. He told me one second I was one my horse the next there's an ache in my ribs. I never thought I would see a situation like this so I had no clue how to handle it.

  4. “I am very proud of my other teammates. I am a bit disappointed that I didn’t get to run in our last meet, because it was like, perfect running conditions, but I heard that everyone else did very well and are proud of themselves.” That was a quote by Portage runner Nathan Hammer when asked how he felt after he did not participate in the away meet at Columbus on Monday, October 14th due to illness.

He said, “The illness started with aching migraines, then it led to the flu, and now I’m dealing with some headaches on and off.” The illness started the morning of Saturday, October 12th. He did not go to school on Monday or Tuesday. Hammer says, “Yeah, on Tuesday my dad came home with loads of homework for me to do and I just stood and stared. He set it right on the counter and I swear I almost fainted. I mean, I know I get kind of a delay on when this is all due but still, it was a lot. When he got back to school, he was nicely greeted by all of his friends and teachers. Hammer says that he is feeling much better and is very excited for the banquet to end the season off right, and he hopes everything runs smoothly while he’s there!

  5. Portage Wisconsin, the first snowfall of the year 2019 happened September 12th. Not many people were thrilled because of how early the snow came. Some people say we had a snowfall or even skipped it. Halloween hasn't even came and we already got snow, by Thanksgiving there might even be snow on the ground.
The temperatures are dropping down to the 30s lately and the highest is the low 60s, maybe not even that. People are wearing coats and hats, no longer wearing t-shirts, shorts or flip flops. Mosts days the sun isn't out, it's usually misting or raining the whole day. Girls are wearing jeans or leggings and uggs or boots, and the boys are wearing pants and tennis shoes.
Kindergarten kids are going to have to be wearing snow pants, boots, gloves and hats by Thanksgiving if this weather keeps going the way its been going. The snow was small at first and looked like rain but about an hour later it started coming down faster, soon after that when you looked out the window all you saw was the white snow shooting past the windows. In the morning the snow was gone, none of the snow stayed on the ground because the group isn't cold enough for it to stay.

  8. On Saturday down by Howard street, a group of people was moving out of there apartments. A few of the people in those apartments aren’t the most beneficial people. A guy in all black was packing a U-Haul full of personal belongings.Including putting a cat in there. The cat was in a cage that fell out slamming into a puddle. A couple of kids passing by watched the cat fall and was trying to decide if they should go over and help it. Startled from falling the cat started Hissing. Unfazed the guy placed the cage back in the U-Haul, continuing to pack the U-Haul. The kids stood there confused for a few moments wondering why the dude wasn’t alarmed by the cat falling. One of the girls was quite triggered by how the guy reacted that she murmured crackhead and stormed off. Hearing them he whirled his head around and shot a death glare at the remaining kids. The kids ran off worried that the guy would yell at them.

  11. On october 10th, 2019, Ms.DeVries 2nd hour class had a huge shock, and it was all because of a letter. The letter was from the school board, which most people think it would be something good, but it wasn’t. It was a letter saying that all banned or challenged books, had to be removed for the classroom libraries. Which meant most of the class couldn’t read the books they were reading, which they got to choose what books they read this year. So everybody loved their books, but they couldn’t read them. So Ms.DeVries had to walk around the room and collect all the banned or challenged books from the class, but as she was walking around she said “I know a lot of higher up people who could help fix this.” She was trying to think of ways to fix this, and so were the students. So the students began making signs saying we want banned books, or stop banning books. One kid even made a sign that said I miss George, because that was the character in his book also called George. But some kids said they were going on strike from reading at all! There was even a petition going around the room for getting the banned books back. There was not a single soul in that room, that was happy. Class had stopped and everybody was working on one thing or another to try and get the banned books back. But eventually, after about 20 minutes, Ms.DeVries got the classes attention back and they got the lesson completed. Then they got to work on there assignments. Then about 5 minutes before class ended, and almost everyone had finished their assignments. She said that is was a prank but a prank for a good cause. The assignment was that the students had to write about the five w’s, with something that happened.

  12. When the 5th graders at Rockwell Elementary school had indoor recess for the 5th time. They thought nothing of it, probably bad weather. But later in the day when kids started leaving one by one everyone got nervous. The teachers soon got notified a man named Joseph Jakbouaski has robbed a gun store and was coming our way.

It started as a normal day for a 5th grader, she was so excited to go see her friends and play outside. She thought today is the day we are going outside we have too. But when school started everything seemed off, Mrs Westcott the 5th grade teacher had a worried face. The 5th graders didn't understand and thought nothing, until they had indoor recess again. When the kids were in the cafeteria for recess the 5th graders friends said “ I heard there is a man who broke out of jail and is coming to kill us” Then the recess teacher told the kids to stop talking about it and it’s nothing to worry about.

Later in the afternoon, some students started to get called down to the office letting them know they can leave. Then the 5th graders name came over the speaker she was terrified, she was thinking why am I leaving school if its because of the weather is it not because of the weather. She rushed to get her things together so she could get to her mom faster, thinking she will feel safer. When the 5th graders got to her mom they walked out to the car seeing both of her older sisters were called out and how now we are picking up our cousin.

To continue, the car was silent until they picked up the cousin, then the 5th graders thought it was the best time to ask what's going on. Then the mother answered she said there is a man who robbed a gun store and threat to shoot up schools, now the Rock county police have no idea where he is. When the kids heard this they didn't feel safe. When they got to the house, the girls were scared they thought he was in their corn field or hiding in their woods. After a couple more days the news was being blown up saying the man hunt is over. The man was found and is in cousty. He was found in the woods hiding with all of the guns. The 5th grader felt joy inside her body. She hopes that this never happens again, and the man gets what he deserves.

  14. A few years ago when I was seven years old I went fishing with my family when my mom and I went on one side of the boat and my mom caught a northern. But it spit the hook out. I caught a northern ten fifteen minutes after my mom caught the fish and I landed the fish in our boat. When I caught the northern I started to cry. My parents said that I can keep the fish and they will put it up on the wall in my house. When I got my Picture taken with my fish and I the DNR came to our boat and said that the fish I caught was rare and that it is worth over $1,000. While the DNR was at our boat people were passing us and clapping because they announced over the loudspeaker and said “A young girl had just caught a rare 30 inch northern” My parents took me to the restaurant that is on the lake. We took the northern in with us and my dad said “this is the rare 30 inch northern” The manager said I can have free food for the day. When my parents were getting the fish mounted the man said i will give u $500 for the fish right now my dad said no.

  16. At around early June a girl was playing wither her best friend at her house to have fun.The girl and her friend got really bored because they had nothing to do but watch tv. The girls had a bright idea to go there other friends house and mess around and play. One girl called him and answer so she texted him waited for a little bit still no answer called again no answer again she was starting to get angry and yell at her phone with rage. They both knew there friend didn't live very far from her house so they were going to walk over there and see if he just wasn't by his phone. The girls went walking to go find one of the girls mom they told her where they were going and her mom said ok and told the girls she was about to go shopping for food and stuff she needed. As the girls were walking to their friends house they were going to go through the backyard. As they girls got to their friends house one of the girls realized she couldn't walk into the backyard because of the tall grass and she would get a rash. One of the girls had already stepped up and was about 2 feet or 3 feet off the ground because to get into the backyard of her friends house they had to step up on this platform so the girl who had already stepped up said “ alright fine i’ll get down and we can go around and knock on the front door”. So the girl jumped down and fell and rolled her ankle as she landed she laughed at herself because before the girls left as they were going to go fine her mom she fell down the stairs.the girls were both laughing at her then the girl who fell said “ wait this really hurts” the girls friend said “ can you stand up” she shook her head vigorously. Her friend ran toward the house as her friend was screaming and crying in pain. Her mom drove her car over and helped her daughter into the car and drove back home. They laid the girl who got hurt in the couch and tried to calm her down her mom said “ I'm not taking you to the hospital until you stop crying” about 30 minutes went by and then she drove the girl to urgent care. They were there until about 11 o'clock at night. The girl got x rays and guess what she broke her leg and was in a boot and on crutches at the beginning of summer, fun right?

  17. It was Thursday, October 10th at around 9:15 am when Mr.Rueth a middle school principal walked into Mrs. Devries a middle school English teacher’s room. It was was a completely normal day in her room, that was until Mr.Rueth walked into the classroom. That changed the whole class period and maybe for the rest of the year. All of the students were genuinely curious when Mr.Rueth walked in and handed a single sheet of folded paper to Ms.Devries. She unfolded the paper too read it after Mr.Rueth said, “The school board is making the Portage School District take away all of the banned books.” This was very weird since it was just national banned books week. Everyone in the classroom thought that it was just too convenient to be true. That was until she walked around the room too each of the student’s desk t;o look too see if the book was banned. If it was, and it was one of her books she took it off their desk. She ended up taking 15-20 books away from students that day. The students became so upset that this was happening that they ripped our pieces of loose-leaf paper. Somethings they wrote on them were, ‘Im on strike’ ‘bring banned books back’ and a lot of different little protest signs. The whole class was ready to agrue about the school district banning the books. After the dust was starting to settle she put up on the smart tv that it was all a joke. Many of the students were relieved but some were upset with Ms.Devries about what she did. This shows that not all schools are all serious some can be fun sometimes.

  18. It was October 10th and all the 8th graders were excited to come to there next class english, they were all jotting down their page numbers from their books when their principal walked into the room with a depressing look on his face. He told the class and their teacher ms. DeVris “All banned or challenged books from here on out would be removed from their shelves in Bartels Middle School form the school board sorry guys” a student named Alex Chaning started a strike, by writing STRIKE on a paper and then the class continued. Except no one paid attention and wrote their own strike papers and that they wanted “george back or their own book”. Their teacher walked around the class and took pictures of all the strike papers and sent them to Mr.rueth their principal. Some students walked down to his office and put their strike papers on his desk. One student even started a petition to get their books back. But in the end it was all for nothing because their teacher broke it to them that it was all a prank.

  19. Eight grade students got pranked by Ms. Devries and Mr. Rueth at Portage Middle school. Mr. Rueth walks into the classroom with a letter in his hand and reads it allowed to the class. Mr Rueth reads this letter allowed “ Beginning immediately, No Banned Books will be allowed at Bartels Middle School. This will be enforced by the Building Principal and his designee. Banned Books are defined as those that have been removed from the shelves of any school in or around the State of Wisconsin by other school districts. This decision is based on the best interests of our students and their families desires to have their learning focus on classic, known educational goals. School Board, Portage Community School District.” After Mr. Rueth left students asked Ms. Devries reads the letter out loud to the class again. All students were in aw. Going along with the prank Ms. Devries starts to talk about what she can do to get the banned books not banned in her classroom. While Ms. Devries was talking about that some students decided to write on a piece of paper “I’m on strike” This prank was going on to the whole entire class period. Finally, Ms. Devries told her students it was a prank at the end of each class period.

  20. If you’ve seen the popular show, The Vampire Diaries or The Originals, than you might like the third spin-off show, Legacies. If you’ve already seen the first season and you loved it, than you might wanna listen up! The first episode of the second season of Legacies came out last week Friday, October 11th, on the CW app. Some people like to wait until the new season comes out on Netflix but some fans just cannot wait!

If you don’t know what Legacies is, Legacies is a show about the kids of the characters in The Vampire Diaries and The Originals. The main characters are Hope Mikaleson, Landon Kirby, Rafael Waithe, Lizzie and Josie Saltzman, Milton Greasley (MG), and Alaric Saltzman. Almost everybody in the show is a supernatural creature, Hope is a Tri-brid (Witch, Vampire, Werewolf) MG is a vampire, Rafael is a werewolf, Lizzie and Josie are twin Gemini siphon witches (they need to siphon magic from other objects to use their witch powers) Alaric is Lizzie and Josie’s dad but he’s not supernatural, he used to be a vampire hunter so he’s good at fighting but he’s still human. Landonn is a supernatural creature, but he is one of the most interesting one so if you want to know what he is, you should watch the show.

So if you are a “TVD” or “TO” fan and you haven’t seen Legacies yet and you seem interested, you might wanna binge watch the first season on Netflix so you can watch the second season and know what’s going on.

  22. It was a normal day in a 2nd hour English class at Bartels middle school. The principle came into the room with a piece of paper. The paper said that at Bartels middle school they were not allowed to read banned or challenged books. All of the 2nd hour was very upset and they even said they were going on ̈strike ̈. The english teacher went around collecting pretty much everyone's books, the ones who didn't get theirs taken were lucky. Everyone already agree the only good books were banned or challenged, some people knew it was a prank. Why would the teacher take the books along with their bookmarks? At the end of class as soon as the kids were getting it through their head and that's how it was going to be, the english teacher said ̈it was all a prank, don't be too mad at me¨ and she laughed.
