September 11 & 12
Today in class we read and annotated an article about the dress code in Gonzales, Texas. On this blog, I'd like you to comment with your thoughts about the policy. You will then reply to others' posts.
When you've done that, you need to try to find out what their policy is now. We will discuss their new policy as well as how you found it in class.
I think that the school's response was way too extreme! It seemed like they wanted to get attention for their policy.

DeleteI think that what the school did was a little too much. I mean, just having the prison jumpsuits are bad, but it's even worse when the inmates have made the suits themselves. I do find it good that they still allow to let the students have the choice of calling their parents and having them bring a pair of clothes to school for them.

ReplyDeleteYes, I agree. What is the point? I don't think it will be effective. There is an alternative option for the students. They can call a parent to bring clothes, so I think that was good.

I would like to just go there and be like HA HA LOOK AT ME HA HA HA I'm wearing the WRONG clothes and prove them that this idea is just so dumb.

DeleteI think that the schools rule is a little harsh. I think that they definitely should have a consequence for disobeying the dress code, but I don't think that that is the right way to handle it. I think that they should just either have them get new clothes or have an in school suspension.

DeleteI think that the prison outfits were a little much but, the kids need to know what to where. They could have thought of a different way, with less arguing and all that. Still it would be cool to were a prison uotfit for a day.

ReplyDeleteI don't understand why the school had to humiliate the kids by making them wear Jumpsuits made by Prisoners. Kids are supposed to wear things that describe their own personality. I think that as long as kids are covered than they should be able to wear whatever they want, as long as it isn't inapropriate.

ReplyDeleteDress codes are a policy for students to make better and safer decisions for their dress ways, not to make them look like convicts. If you want a student to dress in respectful and responsible clothes, than dress them in the appropriate attire, but jump suits aren't the correct way to do that. And honestly, how are jump suits any better of attire. I think that you should Either give them a warning, make them call their parents, or make them change into extra school clothes. Just not jump suits! I almost want to say that this rule puts a bad remark on the school. And who buys school supplies fromm a prison! Oh wait, this school is buying lunch trays, jump suits, and other school supplies for the students.....from prison!!

Have her call home it not that hard. these kids are not prisoners there students. Who wants to go to school knowing they might have to wear a jump suit. Sometimes teachers wear to short of things but do they have to wear prison suits no they don't!! It not fair that some kids have to wear them and others don't. I dont care that young kids don't know any better they still should have to wear a suit because there parents should know what they should wear and not wear and how are jump suits better then to short of cloths?! There not! Wearing jump suits it bad because these kids did nothing wrong! Who cares if they wear the "wrong" cloths. Who in there right mind buys school supplies from a prison, oh wait this school does! I mean prison lunch trays!

ReplyDeleteI agree with that. Prisoners wear jumpsuits not kids who just wore the wrong thing. Prisoners got their freedom taken away because they did something really bad, but the kids didn't do something to get there freedom taken away.

DeleteI don't see why this is such a surprise. The school does want to spend real money on appropriate clothing for students. So the school buys cheap jumpsuits made by prisoners. It's another way for the school to save money!

I think they are being to extreme. It is not as big of a deal as they are making it. They should just do a school suspension instead.

2,650 students is a lot of student.
I was looking at the last paragraph and it doesn't make sense why you would get a suspension for just not wearing the appropriate dress code once.

Why did the school buy another similar things from the Inmates? Why didn't the 1-4 grades didn't wear any jumpsuits? if dress code isnt a crime then why do they have to wear a jumpsuit if they break dress code?
