  1. Part Of Book: When the heat of the Spymaster game is rising. All of the spies are finding a whole bunch of new ways to bring their "A" game.
My Thoughts: I think that it's so cool that they figured out how to make invisible ink, and keep thinking of ways to hide and reply using secret messages.
Question: What was your favorite new technology that they have made?

    1. My favorite invention/technology used then was the idea to use a silver musket ball for transporting messages.

    2. One of there best inventions in my opinion was the cannon.

    3. My favorite new technology was the invisible ink. I thought it was so cool that they were able to use certain chemicals for the ink. It was really cool that they were able to send messages the other side couldn't figure out.

    4. I agree with Colton my favorite is the silver musket ball

  2. Part of Book: Anna Strong hanging up laundry in a certain pattern so that fellow spies know where the Culper Ring messenger waits.

My thoughts: What happens if someone in the other side finds out about the pattern and then everyone would get caught. I thought that Anna was really important and it was not fair that her code name equaled "lady" instead of her real name. She seemed to be really important in the spy business because of her "laundry" role.

My question: How did you feel that the Culper Ring allowed a woman into the group?

    1. I think it was a good thing because people back then expected women to just do house work and cook. So when the women helped they wouldn't be very noticeable by enemy spies looked at them if they were acting weird.

    2. I agree with Colton, because women weren't treated like "men", so they didn't have that many duties that didn't involve a "women's" job. For instance, cooking, cleaning, and sewing. So anyway, I think it was smart to let a women into the Culper Ring because at that time the British wouldn't suspect that a women could be a spy.

  3. Part of Book: Where Washington came up with doing what the Sons of Liberty had done in Boston to spy because he didn't know any other way with Knowlton dead.He would use civilian sharp-witted patriots so they could spy and they would think that they are Tories

My Thought: I thought that was a good idea because They are never going to think that they are there to spy.

Question: What would you have done if you were Washing ton and didn't know any other way at the time?

    1. I think it was a good idea, especially because the people that were being spied on wouldn't have any former knowledge of those citizens being spies. I think if it would have been me in that situation, I probably would have tried to "hire" a few people from the Sons of Liberty because I think George Washington was respected enough at the time to be able to get a reliable spy network under his command.

  4. Part of Book:When they were trying to find new ways to hide messages from enemy spies that would intercept them.

My Thought:Many of the ways they came up with were very clever, such as putting messages into small silver musket balls or rolling up long pieces of paper and putting it in a quill. They mostly used a chemical writing technique so you would use a certain chemical to write with, then you would brush another chemical on it to make the words appear.

Question: If you were a spy what types of techniques would you use back then to hide messages.

    1. If I were a spy, different techniques that I would use, would probably hiding messages in clothing, or sewing messages written on cloth into the design of the clothing. It would just look like a design in the clothing, and no one would suspect that there would be a message on it.

  5. Part of Book: When Washington formed a special operations group.
My thoughts: I thought it was a good idea, but since it told that one of the members- Nathan Hale was a 21 year old school teacher, it made me wonder if all of the people on the team were all trained, and knew what they were doing as well as having other jobs as their "cover", and not just volunteering, because that mission seemed a bit too big for just volunteers.
Question: Would you have wanted trained agents or normal people to go on a mission if you were George Washington in that situation, and why?

    1. I think i would rather have untrained people to go into a mission. I think this because then if we lose them they weren't very valuable. I mean yes thye do matter it's just that they wouldn't be as important than trained spies.

    2. I would want a trained agent because then they would know what to do and be able to get more information then a normal person

      Delete
    3. I honestly don't really know. I mean because if you used trained agents, you would probably get a better outcome, because they know what they are doing, but they are known, and more likely to probably get caught. If you used untrained people, they wouldn't have much experience, and they wouldn't know exactly what to do, but no one would really suspect them, and they would have a less chance at getting caught.

    4. I DEFINITELY would want to have trained agents go on a mission for me. Even though they are very much more expensive to train, I think it would have many pluses. For example, if a normal person was caught and interrogated, they might break and tell them all the correct information, while a trained spy probably wouldn't even get caught in the first place, but if they did they wouldn't break because they were trained to do that.

  6. Part of Book: When George was getting shot at.
My Thoughts: How the heck did he avoid getting shot if the bullets were hitting him??? It made no sense, i wish there was more clarification on it.
Question: How do you think he avoided the bullets?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. he possibly could have something bullet proof or he had so many layers on that the bullest just didn't hit his body.

      Delete
    2. I think maybe his jacket or coat that he was wearing was unbuttoned, or very loose, so it was unclear for the people shooting where to aim, and maybe his companions took a straight path, and he played it smart and ran in a zig-zag pattern around trees so he was harder to hit. There was also probably some blind luck in there.

    3. I think, like maddie, that the jacket was unbuttoned or loose so the other people would aim but it would just go through the other side of the jacket. Also it may just have been luck.

    4. Same I think that he had baggy clothes on and they people aiming were just hitting the clothing. Not him.

  7. Part of Book: I was interested in how they poisoned the peas for a way to kill George Washington.

My thoughts: Something that came up in my head was other ideas they probably used to kill him.

Question: What would your plans be to kill George if you were with the british?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I think i would probably try to kill him with something poisionous because it would be easy to transport over to the other side and you could desguise it so that it would look like it came from one of his realatives or something like that.

      Delete
    2. Poison seems like the best option, but I feel like the British could have ambushed Washington at his house because the British had more troops, and probably could have overtaken the troops around him, and killed him.

      Delete
    3. Everyone is right. Poison is probably the best option. Because then when he eats the poisoned food, he won't know until he swallows it, and then it would be too late.

  8. Part Of Book: When George Washington chose the spies.

My thoughts: I thought this was pretty cool. It was kinda formed out of nothing then George washington thouhgt of having this group of spies.

My Question: Were all the spies trained and how did George Washington pick who woulod go on missions or to even be in the group?

  9. Part of Book: Bag of Gold [End of Book]

My Thoughts: I think that it is pretty cool that the most valuable spy gets a bag of gold.

My Question: Who do you think the most valuable spy is ? Who do you think got that bag of gold?
