  2. What types of candy do you get on Halloween? Kit-Kats? Twix? Sour Patch Kids? Or maybe a Potato?

That was what one house on School Rd. did on Halloween. In a bucket, there were choices of the usual candy but also included potatoes. People flocked the house when it was discovered that there was this particular spud. Groups of trick-or-treaters, potatoes in hand, celebrating their find. After the first hour, kids were going around asking where the “potato house” was.

Determined to get their hands on one themselves. Hordes of pirates, witches, ghosts, zombies, and more stampede towards the house desperate to find a potato. It was found out later that there was another house also playing the same trick. Laying potatoes on a table along with candy. Some people wonder if this is a common occurrence during Halloween.

According to an Article on radiomilwaukee.org, a woman in Milwaukee started this trend. Setting a potato in a bowl along with full sized candy bars and other treats. A kid came along and decided to grab the potato. Eventually, tons of people are going to the house and requesting the potatoes. To the point where she almost runs out of spuds.

Wonder what they’re going to do next year…

    1. I liked what you did when you asked a question at the end of the story to make them think about it a little deeper. Another thing I liked was, "Hordes of pirates, witches, ghosts, zombies, and more stampede towards the house."

  3. Most people see fishing as either boring or fun, but not normally a risk of getting hurt. On a bright summer day, a small town dad took out his two children for a fun day on the lake. After they came back to the pier with a bucket full of fish, they began to load up the boat. As the father was cranking the rope to insure that the boat won’t move off the trailer, something unexpected happened. The rope broke and it snapped back at the father from the tension that was built. Luckily, the dad had a lightning fast reaction. The rope just barely missed his face, giving off a cool mist of water. Instead it hit the back of his truck. The logo on the tailgate had a slight crack that ran along the side. Their minds wondered, thinking of what could have happened if the rope had hit their father. What if he was standing just another inch to the right? That day they left the lake thankful that they escaped danger from a thin rope.

According to pewtrusts.org, there are more than 100,000 fishing-related deaths every year. Additionally, more than 400 people die a year due to car crashes related to trailers. That’s not including the 20,000 who seek medical attention due to this. No matter if you're fishing, getting ready to leave, or driving on the road, be sure to always be safe and cautious of your surroundings.

  4. This Halloween and others before have had many people hand out candy in very unique ways. Whether it’s throwing some from the top of a slide, handing out potatoes on a table, or trekking up staircases that have a prop jump out at you; Halloween in Portage is fairly creative. One of the many houses around however was passing candy out in a way that made kids work for it.

Two adults were sitting in a boat outside their house; a giant candy bowl and fishing rods in hand. They’d cast their line out and wait around. Soon, the bait would get grabbed by the little kids that reached as far as they could. The line would rattle as they tried to jump for the candy, some latching on after multiple attempts. Older kids would get to reach the top of the boat; grabbing a piece from the bucket of bait. Fishing in the late afternoon was a good idea because that’s one of the best times in a day to fish. It’s lucky that the two were for catch and release because otherwise they’d have many upset parents going for their boat.

Fishing with candy is one of the more creative ways to pass out. And because of this, they’ll be remembered out how they fished up kids on Halloween.

  5. Reporting from the Poynette Wisconsin, It was a sunny Sunday afternoon. In the glamorous shed next to a cornfield there was a pumpkin party going on. Grandma Judy was walking from the shed to the house to grab a couple of knives when she saw a couple of orange blobs in the cornfield. She was unsure what they were or if she was seeing things she continued on her merry way. On her way out of the house she found her glasses as well as her knives she needed for the pumpkins, then she saw the blobs moving again but this time weren’t blobs. She was sure that something oddly strange was happening over there.

She walked over there being the brave grandma that she is and wanting to find out what was happening or if she was just seeing things. She was shocked to see that there was children walking around with pumpkins on their heads. Coming closer she realized that not only were their kids but they were her grandchildren. They were modeling and posing for pictures like they were professionals. What they told me was in was for Instagram, cause that is “cool now.” Now every time she walks by a cornfield she inspects it for pumpkin headed children.

According to the internet, the myth of jack-o-lanterns is for scaring away unwanted and evil spirits. They were not trying to scare their grandma but just trying to take some pictures for instagram. These myths originally came from Ireland. Broadcasting live, I am Courtney Hernkind.

  6. n the summer of 2018 the Alden children were having a nice day outside with their mother. The family was at the Milwaukee Zoo when their 6 year old son William, sprinted out of the gift shop and made a sharp left for the back of the building. It took a minute for the oldest daughter to notice and tell the rest of the family that the boy was gone. The Oldest son and daughter checked inside the gift shop for the boy while the youngest daughter and mother checked outside. They searched all around the gift shop knowing the boy couldn't have gotten far. A few moments later the older kids met the rest of their family outside just as the young boy ran out from the side of the building. Scared that he broke the giftshop when the AC turned on. He was hiding in the bushes on the side of the gift shop in front of the AC unit. The boy continued to run away when a stranger blocked the boy from running farther into the zoo and the boys older brother went to grab him.

Later the boy told his mother that he wanted to go onto the merry go round again and see more animals. The family had just eaten lunch outside of the zoo before going to the gift shop. Before that they had been on the merry go round and seen the primates. The family left the zoo shortly after getting the young boy back into his mothers arms. They also went to see the rest of of the zoo before leaving. The family continued to go to the zoo many times after that. This didn't happen again to the family, however many young children run off while in public make sure that if you have a toddler you know where they are at all times. Also if you see a young child wandering alone in public notify the authorities or a worker right away so they can help reunite the child to their family.

  7. Dognapping has always been a problem. But, have you ever almost accidentally gotten your dog dognapped.Well a family in Lewiston, WI was able to experience this first hand.It all started on a chilly afternoon when a woman and her kids were coming back from grocery shopping. They were at the driveway of their house when her daughter saw a small figure in the distance. It looked like it could possibly be an animal. The more she looked at it the more familiar it seemed until it finally clicked. It was of course her dog.Turns out their dog had runaway again!Their dog was a breed of hunting dog that absolutely loved to chase any animal from raccoons to deer. This dog was on her leash outside but, that didn't stop her.Especially since she was home alone.
When the girl saw the dog she told her mom and she immediately stopped the car at the entrance of the driveway.Just as they were getting out of the car a small black and red car stopped by the dog. That car was much closer to her dog than she was.Someone got out of the car and she started to get scared. She didn’t want to think about it but she knew that she might never see her dog again. The thought only lasted a couple seconds.Without thought or hesitation her mom and her started calling their dogs name but it wasn’t working.Suddenly a man got out of his car and grabbed the dog.He was about to get her into his car but wast able to.
The girl started running towards the car and yelling her dogs name even louder than before. This time it worked. Her dog heard her and started running towards her as if only a couple seconds ago she were about to be accidentally dognapped. She waited until her dog was standing right in front of her.She grabbed the dog from her collar and got her into the backseat of her car. When they got back to their house the surprise wasn’t over yet. They got out of the car and on the foot of their doorstep was a dead muskrat. You could tell that the dog was delighted with what she had accomplished that day as the girl tied her back onto her leash.

  8. When fights break out on a bus the bus driver’s job is to protect the kids on the bus. This means possibly having to take actions into their own hands to stop something that could get messy. According to handfordsentemel.com “School bus drivers have a legal duty to protect the kids on their bus. It is the same duty - the same high standard - that teachers have in class. It is a relationship built on trust that the bus driver will act in the best interest of the child.”

There are many ways in which a bus driver can tell if a fight is going to break out. According to handfordsentemel.com “Often a driver can prevent the fight by properly responding to language that usually precedes combat, such as name calling and taunting.”

From a reporter’s personal experience; this is their story.

One day on a bus ride home, there was as usual, chaos in the air; people were yelling and it was just loud. Above all else, a kid basically everyone knew the name of was singing to his songs again. The kid wasn’t very good at singing, and he was very loud too, like when the fire alarm goes off in your school. That type of loud.

This kid’s name was Josh, Josh’s sister was trying to get him to stop because he was annoying everyone on the bus. So another kid decided to take actions into their own hands. This girl was taking her mechanical pencil apart and took the cap and started to throw the cap at Josh like she was throwing a baseball. Nobody stopped her because he was being pretty annoying.

His sister tried to tell them both to stop because if you don’t stop with this kid he’ll get angry and if you do that you could be in for a world of hurt. Everyone knew that he really wasn’t the strongest kid on the bus. A lot of people knew that he thought he was the toughest kid on the bus because he acted like it’ but when it came down to the actual fight, he didn’t stand a chance.

This boy also likes to just mess with the other kids around him and doesn’t leave anyone alone. Even when they aren’t really doing anything he still has to annoy everyone. Many times on the bus nobody will stop him from singing, we’ll just put up with it. This day was just a day with chaos lurking in the air.

  9. 13 year old girl stops talking to her 11 year old brother for a whole month to prove a point. A 13 year old stops talking to her younger brother after he barges into her bedroom throwing her door back to yell at her for borrowing a shirt , she is disappointed that her parents don’t listen. When she tells them how her one rule is that he isn’t allowed in her bedroom. But when he does break rules he goes without punishment. His sister feels their parents have double standards.
She goes on a strike and stops talking to him to see what happens, her logic is that when he gets angry at her he tells her to stop talking to him. So, she thought to try it because she can support herself. She stops talking to him for one whole month with an occasional few words to humor her parents. Her brother starts to annoy her more and more at home and school. She is at the point where she is filled with hate and resentment towards him.
Her parents refuse to see it from her POV and always take his side. She decides that she has had enough with him because he doesn’t have power over her and her choices. She knows she's better because she has self control, takes pride in her work, and has built accomplishments for herself . She says they don’t get that her brother doesn’t listen to her or consider how she feels .One time after she refuses to watch him because of his behavior she got in trouble for being upset that she had to give up her weekend, and not get paid for it. According to her her parents made her watch him and when she said she wouldn’t they threatened to ground her , she says he ruined their relationship before it even started because of how egotistical he is.
Her experiment brought some peace to her mind knowing that she doesn’t have to deal with him. Knowing that she gets to choose how her life goes, and knowing he can’t have the power of her words over her head. and she says that she will continue to not respond because no response is a response and a very powerful one at that.

  10. It was a little after ten when five boys were at a park in portage wisconsin. Cops say “we got a noise complaint call by some one who lives next to the park.” so we went there to find five underage boys there just messing around on the playground equipment.

The cops thought that the boys were doing anything wrong and that they were just playing on the playground and having fun. It wasn't curfew yet. We let them go without any warnings. Here is one of the kid’s stories “It was in the summer of 2021 and a pair of brothers and his three friends. The friends said “ lets go to the park because your house is getting boring, and plus it is still not past curfew.” So they went to the park and the friends were throwing the swings over the swing set. So when a cop said what are you doing they all stopped in their tracks. “It was scary having to talk to the cops, especially scents. It was the first time ever talking to one. But we stayed calm and gave them the information that they wanted.” “It gave one of the brothers the idea that not all cops are bad.”

What you should do if you get stopped by a cop. One, you should always stay calm. Two, you should always be respectful towards the cop.Three, listen to your rights if you don't then you might be confused. Fourth, don't lie about your information because if you lie then you could get into even more trouble.

  12. It was July of 2021 in Rohnert Park, California. Single mother, Regina Knowles was running errands with her daughter. The two had gone to Target. Regina went in and her daughter had stayed in the car. Her daughter, Izabelle Schave, had realized there was a man had parked next to them. “I was looking at his car,” Izabelle said. “it had nice red stripes on the side, and was kinda cool.” Regina got back in the car and they went to the dollar store. Izabelle stayed in the car again, and suddenly the same man from Target parked next to her again. She tells reporters, “He just kept staring at me.”
Regina came back and had one last stop to go and then they’d go home. But little did they know, it wasn’t going to be so quick. Regina went into Grocery Outlet, and again, Izabelle stayed in the car. The man was there, he picked up his phone and put it up to the window. As if to take Izabelle’s picture. Regina came back with two arm-fulls of groceries. Izabelle told her, “Mom, I think that guy is following us,” Regina was now worried. “Ok, we’ll see if he follows us on the freeway, so I can know for sure.” Regina turned onto the freeway. “I don’t see him now..” Izabelle said in shock. She thought about it, maybe it was just a coincidence? She thought wrong..
Because, as soon as the girls had moved on from the subject. There he came. Weaving through lanes like he was a NASCAR driver, going almost 80 miles per hour. Regina was now on the verge of tears, “Izabelle, I think you’re right.” she said. Regina was desperate, she needed to lose him. She ran through a red light, but he was still on her tail. He finally turned. Was he admitting defeat? Not in the slightest. He made a U-Turn quick as a flash. Regina called her roommate, “I just don’t know what to do.” She said through her tears, “I don’t want to drive to the house, then he’ll know where we live.”
“Call the police station, and drive there.” And so she did. “Can you get his license plate?” dispatch asked Regina and Izabelle. “He’s following too closely,” “I can’t get it.” Izabelle said. “I’m pulling into the parking lot now.” Regina told dispatch. Izabelle was squinting and reading best as possible. While he sped by not looking away from the two. Izabelle yelled. “I GOT IT!” in relief.
Two police officers walked up to the car to ask the both of them some question. Asking for his appearance and what had happened. Regina and Izabelle were both in tears, for that would be something they never forget..

  13. This Halloween I started very early I had a good costume and I was ready for this night. When I started I got into a good spot were lots of houses were open I was trick or treating all by myself cause I go a lot more faster alone. While trick or treating I saw my english teacher and lots of other people during that night and it was very cool. 5:30PM, I got close to a to the people who live in the apartments next to the water tank. that had lots of dogs around the area. 3 dogs were tied onto a strong steak but it didn’t look like it was very strong when I get rushed and tackled by all 3 of them At the time I didn’t have time to think because there were dogs rushing towards me. Dogs are guards, they make sure that their owners are safe from any dangers that could harm their leader or when their owners are gone. Soon the owner gave me 2 extra pieces of candy but I declined because I already had lots of candy and I had enough thanks to my awesome costume.

  14. Middle School Dances do not usually end in hospital trips, but for this Wisconsin middle school, it did. Bartels Middle School in Portage, Wisconsin hosted a Halloween dance a chance for dancing, friendship, young romance, and just fun. As the dance opened their doors for students people immediately took to the gym as the DJ began to blast music.

For a sixth grade girl who will remain unnamed, she was excited for the dance and the chance to hang out with all her friends. As she went to the dance floor, it was reported by her friends and witnesses that she “Dropped to the floor clutching her chest and started shaking.” This girl had had a seizure, triggered by the lights and loud noises. It was unknown if the girl had a history of seizures but it was incredibly horrific to her peers. It seemed as if time stopped and no one really knew what to do. In a rush, all students evacuated the gym, flooding into the commons as an ambulance was called.

A seizure is a “a sudden, uncontrolled electrical disturbance in the brain” as defined by the Mayo Clinic. This can be triggered by anything that disrupts the brain nerves signals. This can be anything from high fever and high or low blood pressure, or to (most commonly) epilepsy. The condition epilepsy is when the brain sends abnormal or excessive brain activity that causes chronic or repetitive seizures.

It is quite uncommon for lights to affect people with epilepsy but for this girl that was the case. School children should be educated about epilepsy, seizures, and how to identify and handle them at all ages so that something as small as a school dance, can be safe for all.

The kid reporter in english was excited for this, the class stampede outside. With there helmets and longboards, and as the class was getting into the tennis court the. Teacher told the class, outside that the class must do longboarding for a little. Bit than. You can walk around as the teacher was talking though some of the kids.

Were saying how they were only going to longboard for not nearly enough time and than go walk Around so the class rode around. But after many minutes some of the students were getting off the longboards the kid reporter. Was watching the and seem utterly surprised, now the kid reporter knew that most of the class would go and. Walk the track instead of longboard since most of the class disliked longboarding the kid reporter really hopes. Most of the class won’t get board and go walk the track instead of going longboarding

but there something you should know about longboards, longboards. Were named that way because it comes from. The tradition of longboard surfboard, and there is a quote you should say to yourself everytime you go longboarding”those who skate together stay together.”

  16. Halloween was always an amazing holiday for everybody. You would go to people's doors and say, “Trick or Treat” and they would answer politely with candy and adore your costumes. Now, people have been taking advantage of kids during halloween. On this halloween while a teen girl was trick or treating. After she had gotten home she went to open up a piece of her candy and felt something sharp. Turns out it was a nail. So, when this topic came about I had a marvelous idea, and so I started to write about how unsafe candy can be. On the Joe Rogan show he said, “That was always the fear right, when we were kids, is that someone's gonna sneak in a razor blade into an apple,” Joe Rogan was interviewing Dr.Phil and they were talking about fentanyl and how largely it is being sold and how easy it is for teens and adults to acquire.

They were also talking about how a teen got fentanyl on snapchat because they advertised it as sleeping medicine. So, the teen cut the pill into fourths and she took ¼ of the med and she was found dead in her bed the next morning. These dealers that are putting the fentanyl into the drugs put it in there because it is addictive and they don’t care that more than 50% of their clients are dying. Although these things may be true, many websites including PBS Newshour and DEA Verification say that laced candy isn’t a problem this Halloween. There are still ways you can prevent it even if it isn’t a worldwide problem.

So, how you can prevent this from happening to you or your own children, and your friends. You can limit them on their social media or even have simple parenting apps such as Life 360, The google parenting app where you can control anything on their phone, and many others. Another one of the ways to prevent this is to talk to your kid about the signs if they see them on social media, how bad it is to take drugs and what to watch out for. Although there are many other ways to deal with things like this and prevent them, one of the last ways I’m going to say is to make sure they know the effects of what drugs can do and how addictive they are. In conclusion you can make this country a better and safer place if you give the knowledge to your child or children and friends about how terribly addictive and what some of the signs of drugs are.

  17. This producer thinks that therapy should be ………… cheaper so that people would be able to talk about they’re issues to someone they can actually trust that's not in their family. So then people can feel better and they can feel like they can trust someone and have someone to be there for them.

Some people don’t get help because right now therapy is $60 to $120 for an hour-long session so for some people that is a lot of money especially if it doesn't work. So they should either make therapy cheaper or make sure people don’t deal with this.

Especially since people who have gone to therapy feels better then the people who haven’t. The producer thinks that because they were 1 of those people who didn’t go to therapy but they did and felt a little better till they stopped. “Reviews of these studies show that about 75% of people who enter psychotherapy show some benefit. Other reviews have found that the average person who engages in psychotherapy is better off by the end of treatment than 80% of those who don't receive treatment at all.”

Since therapy is so expensive for some people they can’t get it for long enough to help them so that causes them to not get better. SO that is why therapy should be cheaper.

  18. One halloween evening, 2 boys were trick or treating. After a while they see a kid wearing all black get out of a car. So they observe what is happening. They see the kid walk over to a candy bucket that says “ take one’ and he opens his backpack, dumps the whole thing inside, zips up his backpack, and runs to the car. As the car dives off the 2 boys just stand there in disgust because they were walking to that house to get candy. Some people need to think about others, not just themselves.

There was a house that had a ring camera and this family went out on vacation. So this family left a bowl of candy outside and it said take one. The lady remembered she had a ring camera so when she was in the car she watched all of the trick or treaters take candy. Then at around 5:30pm she was a car pull, so she watched to see what candy the kids took and to her surprise he had a backpack and he dumped the bowl in his backpack and ran back to the car. She told her and husband he just laughed. The wife then told the husband that there are a lot of people that steal candy all of the time.

Distactify.com says “ not only kids seal bowls of candy, parents do too.” The mom and son were out trick or treating when the mom decided to steal bucks full of candy from all sorts of houses. As she was taking candy from a house the door opened and she was confronted about stealing. The woman then blamed it all on her son and the man told her that he has a ring camera. She then restated that her son did it and it was a whole fight and the man then showed the footage to the mom and she then said that she was trying to find all of the m&m’s for her son because he loves them. The man just grabbed the buck and went back into his house and shut the door. Don’t be selfish or you will be caught.

  19. This man has put the trick in trick-or-treat. He was in a full body suit that kept his identity concealed. Last night, at around 6:45P.M CT, this man biked through the streets of Portage, and scared many kids with his booming and creepy laugh.

With Trick-Or-Treating, most people just give out candy, and go on with their day. It's very cool to see other people do more than just hand out candy, and have fun on Halloween harmlessly.

How did tricking even start? According to this source, “Volunteers would dress in costume and perform dances to scare off the spirits in exchange for food and drink.” Also, the meaning of trick or treating is basically you get to choose to give the child candy or they will play a trick on your house

Okay, now how did the entirety of Trick-Or-Treating start? Not just the tricks. According to a different source, “Borrowing from European traditions, Americans began to dress up in costumes and go house to house asking for food or money, a practice that eventually became today’s “trick-or-treat” tradition.”

From the same source, it reads,

“Young women believed that on Halloween they could divine the name or appearance of their future husband by doing tricks with yarn, apple parings or mirrors”

One reporter who was near Bartels Middle School at the time was “Absolutely Terrified.” Another said they split their candy everywhere from how hard they jumped, they spent five minutes trying to pick up everything.

More reports from this man reigning innocent terror on many trick or treaters in Portage are coming in.

  20. What type of stuff do you get on halloween. Candy? Toys? Books? Or Even Dental Hygiene.
It was the beginning of Halloween night and a Teenage boy has taken his brother out to go trick or treating. There was this one house and the sign said Dentist house- Doctor This, this, this. The teenage boy and his brother slowly walked up to the house and he see a wooden crate sitting on the dentist walk way. We both see a wooden crate with white bags in it and a bowl full of candy. The teenage boy told his brother you can pick on peace.

Either the bag or a piece of candy. The teenage boy and his brother both grabbed the white bag. We see that it was from a dentist cause the label-print on the bag said 3 dentists and their numbers. We both thought that this was outrageous giving kids dental hygiene on the one day that kids can eat as much as you want. You know like kids totally want dental Hygiene for Halloween. Let us just get a hole bunch of candy they get some dental stuff and just go home and brush.

Since when did people start handing out dental hygiene? After the teenage boy and his brother finished Trick-or-Treating they went home and looked throw there candy to find the white bag. “I found it”! The younger boy said. The teenage boy and his younger brother both opened up the white bags. They found 3 pieces of candy and a toothbrush.

  21. At Wayne Bartels Middle School the principal said, “there is going to be school on friday”, even though it was supposed to be an off day. With all the kids disappointed there was a lot of talking. This caused some drama according to one of the students at the middle school. One of the students even called their mom to let them know what was happening. Even though the teacher said they shouldn’t. After a little bit of time the teacher said something shocking, “ I fooled you, we don’t have school on friday.” They were shocked that they were fooled by the teacher and the principal. When the kids heard that they were confused what was even happening. They didn’t know what to believe anymore. It took them a hot moment. The kids were a little mad at first and then they were excited to learn they had the day off from school after all!

  22. Imagine this, you are trying to go to sleep at night and you hear mice squeaking and crawling around in your walls & hearing the wings of bats thumping around somewhere in your house At the Miller's residence the whole family experienced an event that occurred with a bat. In the attic of the house there appears to be dead bats and mice About 3 years ago they went up to the attic to get their Christmas decorations, they got up there and moved a tarp, and there it was… A dead bat right there in front of them.

As they searched the attic they found more and more bats as they looked around. In total they found 7 bats and around 15 dead mice, Luckley the bats and mice were dead and not alive, that would have made the situation way worse.

The reason this happened was because they left the garage door open while they were working outside. I would definitely encourage people to close their garage door when they go outside to make sure that bats don’t get in the attic or even in the house. Research says the best thing to do if a live bat in your house is to not panic, you should stay calm close all of the other doors in your house so the bats aren’t able to come in. Bats are very peaceful creatures, if you don’t react they won’t react.

  23. On halloween night a fun little activity was afoot near a park there were some nice elderly woman's house that had a small carnival type activity this was a fun opportunity for many families because it gave more people chances to have fun on this spooky night.

The included activities were games like fishing and can toss. A picture booth was also included. This was something that had time effort and love put into. People can still be creative and artistic it is just that some people can ruin it for everyone else.

Small acts of time and love like this show that some people are still creative and fun on halloween.

  24. One fall weekend.. There were these 15 ducks.. And one night the owner forgot to put the door for though to leave and enter threw.. On the lock so the ducks were just sleeping and laying around while the owner was getting ready for bed around 9:04.. The owner went to bed at 9: 23… the ducks had no idea that the door was open… and from what there cameras caught.. It was either a coyote or a fox that got into the duck cage and attacked all the female ducks leaving 4 ducks left… and then the owners had no idea what was happening in the morning because the ducks were super quiet.. When the owner went to check they had left so many of the other other ducks deceased.. And about 31 million ducks a year are killed for there flesh or by animals.
a Quote the owners said… “ Even though they were so young… and they will be happier in this new world as something else “
And the owners said they have now been double checking the locks every night so another accident doesn’t happened . and they installed a camera in the duck cage.

  25. Would you scream or run away in fear as a giant spider was lunging towards you? Yesterday during Halloween a mother and her son came up to a normal looking house to get candy. As they approached, suddenly a motion detected jumping spider lunged at both of them. The mother screamed like she was about to die and her son sprinted away in terror of the spider. The son ended up coming back and getting candy and toys the house was handing out. After being tricked they got a treat! The mother thought the spider was clever and hilarious after being scared half to death. But her son hated the spider with all of his heart.

Halloween started about 2000 years ago to celebrate Samhain, a Celtic festival. Back then they would dress up and start bonfires to scare off ghosts. The Celts live in the area that is now known as Ireland, the UK, and France. November 1st was the Celts New Year, which celebrated the end of summer and the beginning of the cold winter, which was related to human death. On the night before New Years, October 31st, they celebrated samhain, when the ghosts came back to earth. During Samhain, Celtic Priests build and light huge bonfires, people would burn crops and animals as sacrifices. While the celebration was happening the celtics would wear costumes made from animal heads or skins.

Americans, borrowing from European traditions, began dressing in costumes and going to doors asking for candy, which became today's “Trick or treat” tradition. Women believed that by doing tricks with yarn, apple pearings, and mirrors they could figure out the name or appearance of their future husband. In the late 1800s, America stopped doing pranks, tricks, and witchcraft and began to do more community or neighborly get-togethers like parties for Halloween. Parties became the most common thing to do on Halloween. At the parties people would play games and eat food relating to Halloween. By 1950 Halloween became directed mainly for the young.

Nowadays on Halloween people would dress up as anything and go around door to door holding their bags while saying “Trick or treat!!” the owner of the house would then put candy in their bags. But sometimes the candy would just be in a bowl on the porch. Did you know that ¼ of all the candy sold all year around in the US is purchased for Halloween. In 2021, $500 million dollars was spent on costumes for pets!! Do you get costumes for your pets?

  26. Have you ever had a bat in your house and didn't know how to get it out or how it got into your house?
A Kid and their mom wanted to know how to get a bat out. This is how bats can get into your house and how you get them out. When there is a bat in your house you want to open all of the windows and doors and dim the lights a little bit so it will leave. Some people install bright lights to deter them from coming into their houses. The reason bats come into people's houses is because they want food and water and they can't really get that from the outside because of humans destroying their homes and their food supplies. Howtogetbatsoutofyourhouse.com said most people think that if there is a bat flying around your house, there might be more in the house but that is not the case some bats might accidentally fly through an open window, door, and small little holes and don't know there way out.

  27. Over half a million people around the world suffer from homelessness. 0.2 percent of people in America alone suffer from homelessness. The possibilities could be endless as to why someone in the world is in the streets searching for a home that will never come back to them. It could be inflation, drugs, and maybe it's simply because they don’t have a job.

It was a normal Sunday afternoon, as the homeless had littered the streets of Madison wi., begging for help on cardboard signs, as if they couldn’t say it with words of their own. Earlier this week, a U.S. history teacher represented a Paris video exhibition of a famous street, and the children in this eighth grade classroom were told to observe the surroundings in the video. And sitting there were homeless people. Quoted from one of the students, “how did they become homeless?”
That came to a point of how do you stop yourself from becoming homeless. Reported by the the National Coalition For The Homeless says that you should, 1)Try to locate an assistance program near you; 2)Apply for public housing and/or section 8 housing; 3)Apply for transitional housing; 4)Make sure your ID is current or available; and number 5) Make an emergency pack. Hopefully this article will help lower the rates of homelessness and make America great again.

  28. I was passing out candy because i didn't go trick or treating this year. I passed out candy and there was this one kid that came up to my house and he took the candy out of my hand I decided that i was just gonna put a sign that said take 2 please. And then pandemonium erupted……. We have a ring carma so I could see the kids taking big piles of candy whe the paper really says to only take 2. There you go another kid took like a hand full of candy and ran away I quickly got out of my bad and chased the little kid I bevelie he was with his mom but he looked a bit older like maybe 12 or 1 1, The other kid looked around little like maybe 8 so really they don't know what there doing so when I was going to go chase the little kid it was a he..

Also Living out of the country so not really many people come to our house. Here are some witness that also went through the same stuff as me. They couldn't really see the people in the ring camera but in the article it says that The people but only take to pisces of candy so it was early in the trick or treat in the night and the kids sift through to see whats there and take their pcares of candy.

  29. Who- Mr reeth mrs Devries my entire class (about 20 people at least)
What- There Is school friday (WHAT NO WAY)
Where- mrs Defreeze classroom portage BMS
How- Because bad weather and internet issues
When- On oct 31 at 2:15 pm

Students here at BMS just got off of there fall Break and there were excited for a 4 day week. (Due to a teacher inservice on friday there will be no school.) But in mrs devries 8/9th hour today her class were talking about our journalism unit in ELA When mr Reeth ( The Principal of the school) came in he came in the classroom holding a piece of paper and a annoyed look on his face. Mrs Devries was telling a story about how her grandma lottie beat up some teens trying to steal her bag. She tried to tell Mr Reeth about her but he stopped her Before she could say a word.

He said “ due to the internet issues and the bad weather There will have to be school friday.” the only word said was a loud “WHAT?!” In unison with every student in the room as Reeth walks out. Everybody starts asking questions “ what does he mean by bad weather” or “ my Internet works fine!? What is he talking about.” Apparently We are supposed to have a bad weather over the winter and have to many snow days so they have to cut back on how many days off we have and the internet doesn't work in some parts of the building making it difficult for some classes to get work done in school.

After the news Mrs devries and her class decided to look at the good and bad things about the school friday. Like “ at least summer break should be a day closer.” or “ we are used to a full week it won’t feel that long compared to a short week” yet everybody knows that that 4 days is less than 5.

  31. Our Principle and one of our teachers tricked there students into thinking that they had school on Friday. It was a sunny Tuesday, last block of the day. People were happy that it was the last hour of the day because then they could just go home. There teacher Mrs. DeVries was talking about the lesson that we were going to be doing today. It was making a article about drama. Not everyone really had any drama that they could write about.

But then the principle comes into the classroom and says ¨There will school on Friday because of the snow days that there will be in winter¨. When he came in he didn't have a good look on his face. People where really wanting this day off on fridady. It looked like he did not like this just like how everyone else didn't. Everyone was not so happy about this announcement and so they started to ask why do we have to go to school on friday. Our teacher says ¨There is probably going to be a lot of snow days on in winter so we are not having as much in service days as normal¨.

But a little bit later there teacher told them that we don't have school Friday it is just for our assignment so we can get a idea about drama and make it into a article. Now everyone was relieved about not having school on friday. But in some others schools are making up the snow days. So they have to take up days that they should be enjoying summer but have to make up those missed days. Also most schools now whenever there is a snow day or a day where you can't go to school because there doing something they will post a zoom/google meet. Then start doing online school for the day.

I would prefer having online because then we wouldn't have to have these snow days because everything is online and we are on our computers almost the whole day. I also like using the computers because you cant just lose you homework or assignments, it's faster than just writing it down on a piece of paper, and also if everything is on computer you dont have to worry about not having space on your desk for your stuff.
