Security Cameras
ReplyDeleteAt school, I always feel that I am safe in the hallways and cafeteras, but there is one place that I don’t feel safe in which is the classroom. It is because there is no security cameras in the classroom that I actually know. There are windows all over some of the classrooms, some of the robbers could break into the school, the only ones who know that there is a robber is everyone in the classroom, but the people in the office and everyone else doesn’t know about it. In order to keep schools safer, we need security cameras in classrooms.
This first paragraph is about explains why we need security cameras in school. There is 86% of public schools nationwide reported that are one or more serious violent incidents, theft, or other crimes occurred at their school, roughly 2.2 million crimes. That means that we need security cameras so that we could track to see what is happening all day long. Cameras could be expensive, some high systems cost $500,000 or more, plus annual maintenance fees, doesn’t really mean you can’t buy one or even more.
This second paragraph is some percents of security reasons and places we should put security cameras at. There are 98% of schools require all visitors to sign or check in upon arrivals. Even 85% of schools lock or monitor their entrances during school hours. So this is why we need security cameras in school, like everywhere in the school. Such as the entrance of the school, outside of the school so that kids won’t be hurt or kidnapped during recess. Or even in the classrooms so that we could keep a video of all day what is happening in the classroom.
In order to keep all of the schools safer, we need more security cameras in the classrooms, than in the hallway. In the paper, it states why we need security cameras in school, also the presents of security reasons and some places we should put it. I think it is safe to put security cameras in classroom so that everyone knows that there is a robber in the classroom.
On May 16th 2018, A school officers at Dixon high school in illinois stopped a shooter and become a hero. Mark Dallas a school resource officer, who confronted the shooter. Matthew Milby, 19 years old , was the suspect at this incident at Dixon high school. Milby obtained a rifle and entered the gym where graduation rehearse were. Milby started firing the rifle. Dallas charged in into the scene. Dallas fired and wounded milby outside the school. Milby was charged with a felony discharge of firearm. In order to keep students and staff safe at school, each school should have armed guards at school.
ReplyDeleteWithout school resource officers, schools could be in harsh danger of school shootings. School shootings are occurring more when school resource officers aren´t there to protect. When there is no school resource officer in the district, there is a good chance for having a school shooter. Less schools in the national and our district are not having school resource officers to protect the school from any danger. Schools are hopeless if a shooter comes in and there is no school resource officer there to help.
Having school resource officers in each school in our district we help our school be safe from school shooting. School officers will protect students & teachers from being shot at from school shooters. They will decreased the school shooting in schools all over the country. It will also perverted school shooting in our school district. The resource officers will find the active school shooter before they injure anyone. The officers will help our schools and our staff and students be confident to roam around the school knowing that they will be safe from any danger. Staff and students would be appreciative for school resource officers for making them safe.
There are other states and schools that have school resource officers or trying to get school resource officers in there school. 42% of public school like ours have police officers. 14,000 to 20,000 school resource officers are working in school all over the country. Former Governor Scott Walker of Wisconsin proposed a grant to pay for security improvements for training officers in school. The grant would be responsible for requiring schools to make blueprints of the school for the police. Texas Governor Greg Abbott proposed 100 million to have armed forces on school campus. Florida schools are required to have resource officer at their schools. Schools in Arkansas are asking for school resource officers at every school. The draft that the Arkansas schools give strategies for more security at schools. States today are trying to get school resource officers.
To keep student safe, each school in our district should have resource officers. If we don't have a school resource officers, we have a greater chance of danger. Having school resource will prevent school shooters doing any damage. There are states all around our nation that have or trying to get school resource officers in their schools.
In the first place school safety is a important need in every school out there. Students and teachers should always feel safe at school or on school grounds at all times. That's why I think in order to keep kids safe at school, there should be K-9 dogs on patrol in the schools.

Well what happens is if there was a person to break into the school the K-9 dog would use it’s loud bark to alert the teacher’s to shut their doors and get into a safe place in the classroom. The bark echos in the hallways so everyone would be able to hear it. The K-9 would try to take down the threat that is going on in the school. Student and teachers will have a less chance of getting hurt this way.
Next, why does it work? It works because some schools are already using K-9 dogs for their schools safety. The K-9 dog also works because drugs and other dangerous substances are also a threat in schools. It is a lot easier for dogs to sniff out drugs or search lockers than if a human did it. A dog's nose can sniff 40-100 times better depending which type of dog compared to a human nose. The K-9 dogs work because like I said already it is a lot safer for a K-9 dog in a dangerous situation than it is for a human.
Finally, why does our school, Bartels Middle School need a K-9 dog? Our school needs one because you will never know who could be carrying a weapon with them. 1.4 school shootings happen every week. We never know if Portage schools could be next. K-9 dogs would be good in our school because lots of people vape in the bathrooms and dogs could figure out where the smell came from and who’s lockers or who has the juul or vape so that nothing else in that sort happens in our school.
In conclusion, in order to keep kids at school safe, there should be K-9 dogs. K-9 dogs would make our schools so much safer and they would most likely make many students and teachers feel a lot safer too. Do you want your school to be safe? That is why I think our school and others need K-9 dogs.

Some of them are awards by sports, art or even spelling bees, but others are known for the violent shooting that happened at their school. School shootings are becoming more and more popular, and affecting our world everyday. We don't know why this is happening, but there is a solution for it. In order to keep kids safe at school, you should have a police officer on school grounds throughout the school day. This way you have someone at the school, that you know can keep the students safe.
One problem with school shootings happening, are that schools don’t have enough school resource officers to watch over the school. Even though you might never have a school shooting situation happen to you, you should still know what you should do and what the effects are if one happens. If a school shooting is happening, it would be easier for the students and staff if the school had a resource officer. They are the professionals and they have been trained to know what to do. On an average of 288 schools in the United States have had school shootings since the 2000s. Schools used to be a place where students learned how to do math, english, history, science and ects. Now students are going to school worried that they are under attack. For example, the Majority Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida was targeted in February of 2018. In that situation they did not have a school resource officer to deal with the shooter. After the shooter got away, it took the police six hours to arrest him. By not having a school resource officer at your school, it can reduce the time that the police has on to catching the shooter. By not having the shooter behind bars, the students can never really feel safe. Even though having a school resource officer won't totally stop school shooting, it will build safer environment.

ReplyDeleteSince the best way to create a safer school is by having a full-time school resource officer, you should consider having one to produce a sheltered environment. About 30% of all schools in the United States have police officers in there school. In fact throughout the years, more schools are looking into using school resource officers. Using resource officers in school can help students feel comfortable when they are coming back to an unsafe place. Talking to someone that has gone through a situation like that, can help them cope through the day. Twenty states have already guaranteed $450 million to there school security. Adding $450 million to there school security account explains that they have heard enough about all the messes that have been happening at other school near by them. They don’t want to go through the same horror that they did. Since Florida entered money and students started coming together, the school started pushing to create rules about guns and who should be handling them. Then six weeks later, the students went up to Washington D.C, for March for Our Lives. By standing up for what they believe in and going to Washington shows that they what a change. There was 200,000 people that attended March for Our Lives, plus the students from Florida. They then released that there are so many people that are dealing major problems too. While the schools have worked their hardest, they have improved so much for the United States.
All the while major school shootings have been happening, Kentucky, Georgia and Florida have been stepping up to the plate. Kentucky has been putting money forword to train police officers to come into there school and keep their students safe. Georgia has been putting $16 million into their school safety account, but ended the year with $69 million. Later that next month, Florida made a Majority Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Act that stated that people can not own a firearm, if they have recently been in a mental institution or if they have been adjudicated mentally defective until certain relief is obtained. In simpler words, someone can not sell a firearm to someone who has already had bad interactions with the police. These three states are doing whatever means to keep their students alive and safe.
Countless times throughout the years, schools have been talked about by the news in bad ways. For example; Parkland School was in a shooting early today, or Parkland Schools are now coming back to their once safe place. I´ve learned that these schools have gone through enough, and now the principal´s are trying to do everything in their power to create a safer environment for the students. People in the public believe that there needs to be changes on how we protect our students. In order to keep students safe at school you should have a police officer on school grounds throughout the school day. With that, they have started to create acts and put money forward to make the schools a safer place.

ReplyDeleteThere have been 17 school shootings in 2018 alone, one at a school named Sandy Hook where the gunman broke the glass. The school should invest in bullet proof glass because it could increase the safety of everyone in a school. With bullet proof glass, it helps keep the shooter outside of the school. I know you may think it would be easier to just not have windows, but we don’t want people feeling like they are trapped in the school. In order to keep everyone safe at school, the schools should have bullet proof glass.
How it works is the layers of plastic that is on it absorb the power of the bullet so it loses almost all of its strength. The glass rejects any bullet or punch. If it was punched it obviously wouldn’t break because it is supposed to stop a bullet. It is way too tough so that no one could get in through windows, the doors, etc. An effect of the bullet-proof glass is that it shatter, so if someone was standing by it they might get glass in them.
How will it help Bartels Middle School? It will help because in our school we have lots of windows in the school, some are even on the classroom doors. With the bullet proof windows the school shooter couldn’t get in or harm anyone through the window. If the shooter broke the window they could easily unlock the door, or at least find a way to harm kids and teachers. If you can keep everyone safe in the school, this is the way to do it. Also, instead of replacing all of the windows, to save money you could have them just add on the extra layers of the bullet proof kind.
Why does Bartels Middle School need this? Bartels Middle School needs this because we have so many doors that lead to the outside with a glass window. If a school shooter just went up to the door that isn’t the main entrance and broke the glass they could easily get in and hurt anyone. Many schools around the country have bullet resistant locks and windows to protect everyone in the school. Kids come to school to learn, not to be threatened or to even worry about someone coming in to shoot people. Teachers are here to teach the kids and not have to worry about the same thing. Lastly, I think that our school should have bullet proof glass because it will make kids feel safer at school knowing that if they sit by a window, there is a less chance they could get injured.
As you just read, schools need to be safe for the kids and teachers. We all know it would be easier to just not have windows or take out the glass, but we don't want anyone feeling like they are trapped. Our school should have bullet proof glass. It would increase the safety at Bartels Middle School.

DeleteIn America, and all around the world, people are getting illegal firearms. There are many reasons for this. One is that in most states, there is little to nothing getting in the way of felons or unstable(Or any sort of) people from buying firearms. An anonymous survey showed that a lot of students do not feel safe in their school environment, and it needs to change. In order to keep kids safe in school, and people in general, universal background checks for gun purchases are the way to go.
ReplyDeleteIn 2018, there were 24 school shootings in America in which at least 1 person died. Imagine living in a place where school shootings happen everyday. This could happen to us if something doesn’t happen to prevent it. Studies show that living in a home with a firearm increases an individual’s risk of death by homicide by 170%. Another study shows that 22% of gun owners got their recent firearms without any type of background check whatsoever. This shows that there is a major problem happening, and something needs to change.
Now, we know that in order for schools to stay safe, things need to change, but what exactly should be changed? Universal background checks for firearm purchases is a good starting point. In states with these background checks, homicide rates were down at least 15% or more. In states without, homicide rates tend to increase by at least 58%. Obviously, there is a big difference between these, so maybe more states should put these laws in place. Although 90% of the American public supports background checks, only 11 states have a law requiring a background check of any kind. Almost everywhere, there is a way to get past a background check. It is known as the “gun show loophole”, where buyers buy firearms from unlicensed sellers.
So, you have the problem, and a solution. Now, how would it be effective in our community. Wisconsin does, in fact, already have a waiting period before you can purchase a firearm. However, studies show, that there is no statistical evidence that a waiting period reduces violence. This may be as a result of only waiting, and waiting doesn’t necessarily mean that their violent motive(if any, of course) has changed at all whatsoever. A waiting period might be help to necessarily “calm down” a possible perpetrator. But considering that the waiting period is most likely only a few days to a couple weeks, their motive most likely won’t change as much, but it does in fact give them time to think more about the actions they are about to take. Many think that a waiting period is not enough, though. Many think that there needs to be more steps to purchasing a weapon that could fatally harm someone, and believe universal background checks is one of these important steps.
Deadly events such as school shootings have become a normal thing in America. Some think that there is no problem, but 90% of American public thinks there needs to be a change. Adding universal background checks when purchasing guns will not only keep adults safe, but it will also be a major step in keeping our children safe. These background checks are a key stepping stone in keeping America safe, our schools safe, and citizens safe, wouldn’t you want that too?

DeleteOver the last half century a lot of schools have been dealing with problems keeping students at school peaceful. Intruders have came onto school property with guns, bombs or other death devices with a mission. With all that said each school should have an effective resource officer.
ReplyDeleteSchools practice safety drills all year long to help in case of emergency. Only about 20% of public and private schools from Kindergarten to high school have resource officers. People will walk on school property/ground and cause a danger to the school. For example a teenager with a gun walked into Stoneman Douglas High school in Parkland, Florida and started shooting innocent kids.
With all that I believe that every school should have a school resource officer. With the addition of one students can feel safe at school because if someone tries to walk into the school a officer will respond to them immediately. Officers can also end drug abuse and crime problems in schools. They can also check up with students on there mental health and homelife problems.
In a school in Massachusetts an armed guy brought a gun into a High school and attempted to kill students but was stopped by a resource officer on duty. This could have ended the shooting in Sandy Hook Elementary School that happen in 2012 that took 26 teachers and little elementary school kids lifes.
Clearly we should have a school resource officer to keep schools safe. Officers can help with mental health at school. Also with drug abuse and crime problems. The officers main responsibility would be to keep school safe and a happy place to be.

ReplyDeleteFirst off, there have been 288 school shootings since 2009. Many of these shootings have resulted in people dieing. After the Sandy Hook shooting, more than 400 people have been shot in over 200 shootings. These kinds of things happen when we don’t have good gun control laws.
Secondly, the gun control law should have people in the armed forces keep their guns. In the same law it will say that hunters can also keep their guns. Doing this can help to stop shootings. We should also make some mental therapy classes for people. Who might have had a troubled childhood.
Finally, we should also make new safety editions to the school. One of them being metal detectors. Another edition should be bulletproof windows. These editions could help a lot in preventing shootings.
All in all, in order to keep kids safe in school, we should make a new gun control law. There have been 288 school shootings since 2009. A way to prevent this is taking away the guns of people who are either not a hunter or in the armed forces. This is the way we can keep our schools safe.

ReplyDeleteThe Massacre of Sandy Hook. Sounds familiar? In December 14, 2012 in Newtown Connecticut, Adam Lanza enters Sandy Hook Elementary School with a AR-15 Semiautomatic rifle. The shooter killed 26 people, 20 of them were kids. In the aftermath, detectives found out that Adam entered the building by shooting a hole in a window by the security doors. After the incident, many proposals for school safety arose. Among one of them, was School Guard Glass. School Guard Glass company’s goal was to prevent this from happening again. The company has been testing different types of glass that they make. There is many ways the glass works, why it works and why Bartel’s Middle School and other schools need it. In order to keep schools safe, each school should consider using functional security infrastructure.
First of all, the School Guard Glass company has made this glass helpful in case of a school shooting. The School Guard Glass works similarly to bullet proof glass in banks or federal buildings, only difference is that it’s for schools.The Owners of School Guard Glass make their own glass but no one from the public knows what makes it strong. The company claims that they use a “secret” ingredient. They want to keep it a secret of what makes it strong to keep it “a element of surprise.” When installing the glass, they can also install a door. When the company was testing the glass, they found out that the the door would break before their glass would. “The result was that the door and window parts would often break apart before our glass would fail.” They can install a door that will be as strong as the glass. Also, the company’s glass is cheaper than normal bullet proof glass that you would find in a federal building. Regular bullet proof glass costs about $50,000 a piece or more. That’s enough time before the SG4 breaks. After the violent Sandy Hook shooting happened, detectives found out that the shooter got in by shooting a hole at window by the security doors. Although many people suffered that day on Sandy Hook, it inspired ideas on how to keep our schools safe, for example School Guard Glass.
Lastly, the reason why BMS needs it is simple. When there has been school shooting, most of the time no one was expecting it. For example Sandy Hook, Columbine, and Stoneman Douglas High School. They all occurred at random times at different locations, Connecticut, Colorado, and Florida. It can happen anywhere, even at Bartels Middle School. Schools should be prepared no matter what. School Guard Glass prevents this from happening, by keeping schools safe. Just because it hasn’t happened at a certain place doesn't mean it won’t happen in the future. Just from the old saying from the 1800’s, “better safe than sorry.”

Having security guards at school could make students feel a lot safer coming and there willl be one less thing for them to worry about. If we had a school resource officer they could have assigned places in the hall. If they sit in the halls and watch kids we wouldn’t have as many bathroom or hall issues as we do right now.
ReplyDeleteSchool resource officers help keep schools safe and they are another adult students can talk to when things are going on. School resource officers can also help parents figure things out about their kids by just talking to them because they might feel more comfortable talking to someone other than their parents. SROs break up fights break up fights, arguments, and help sove personal issues. Another job of SROs is to arrest kids who are making threats or doing innapropriate things at school.
Having school security guards really does help. School shootings have decreased. In the past 20 yrs Wisconsin has only had 5 school shootings. SROs also help improve relationships between students and police officers.
Lots of schools around the world are starting to have SROs. 20% of U.S. schools have
an SRO. “NASRO estimates that between 14,000 to 20,000 SRO’s serve in schools today”. Armed officers were presents atleast once a week in 43% of public schools.
So, to keep kids safe in school we should have security guards st school. If kids feel safer at school maybe they would work harder or would wanna come to school more often. The SROs could help kids with a lot of different things and it could also make the school a better place.
In 2018 we hit our peak of 97 school shooting cases in the united states. Over 30% of them had 8 or more people injured. This was the highest since 2006, with both number of incidents and number of people injured at once. One of the students in the parkland florida shooting said “it was terrifying, we didn't know where to go, or what to do”. No human being should have to go threw what hundreds of kids a year have too. I'm not saying that school shooters won't still try to kill kids in schools but that if they do, not as many lives will be lost as opposed to teachers not having guns.
ReplyDeleteTeachers should be armed because in just 4 years of Texas teachers carrying guns on school property school shooting rates have nearly cut in half. School shooters are often not diehards, but are people who want to cause a lot of harm, without being injured themselves. just 27% of school shootings has the shooter stayed longer then when the cops arrive, proving that most school shooters often want to get away to watch the damage they caused. For example look at Nikolas Cruz, who was the shooter in the parkland Florida high school. He only stayed in the school for 6 minutes before running from the scene. This shows that if teachers carry guns it will scare 75% of them away.
Since 2006 school shooting incidents have nearly doubled from 59 incidents in 2006 to 97 in 2018, that is a dramatic increase. The number of people injured in a single shooting has also doubled.so far in 2019, we have had 26 incidents in schools, where a gun was involved, and 17 people have been injured in 2019. In 2018 the number of people injured in a school shooting hit its peak at 165 students and teachers injured since 1986. In the past 25 years texas had been one of the most attacked state for school shootings, such as the santa fe high school shooting but since 2010, teachers have started concealed carrying on
campus, since then they have had there school shooting # of incidents cut in half.
In order to keep kids sake at school, we need to arm teachers and staff. By arming teachers and staff, school shooters won't be able to cause as much damage opposed to them not being armed, and it will make them think more about the outcome then teachers and staff not being armed.
School shootings are a scary thing. A scary thing that has happened a lot very recently. People are thinking of many different ways to decrease school shootings.I think Metal Detectors should be in all school building to keep students and staff members safe. People think that this could never happen to them, or to their district but at this point in time you just never know what could happen. Students and staff members should feel safe when coming to school. They can be say just Knowing everyone has been searched before going into the school. Just having that reassurance of no one having a weapon on them, is all the students will need to feel safe in school.
Some schools already have metal detectors for the safety of their students and staff members. 8.7 percent of public high schoolers already have metal detectors to ensure everyone's safety. Just the presence of metal detectors can lead to security improvements on its own. Having metal detectors in schools could stop a lot of violence. Having metal detectors in schools, parents can worry less about the schools access control.
School officials said that metal detectors complement a wider security strategy. Machines in general shows the community that the school is taking things seriously and investing accordingly. It’s a lot to get in some schools but it’s a really good thing to consider when talking about safety. Many people would say the investment of a metal detector is worth it. Anything's worth it if it saves a life of just one individual.
In Conclusion, in order to keep students safe all schools should have metal detectors. Having metal detectors can not only identify if someone is armed but it can also stop violence by just being there and visible. Metal detectors would be an amazing investment for all schools to have. To prevent violence metal detectors being present would be a great thing to have.
Over the years school safety has been a recurring issue. After multiple school shootings and safety problems that have occured over the years, many kids and adults have tried taking action towards these awful events. Not only do these events affect students physically but also psychologically. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, in 2015-16 78.9% of public schools recorded crimes. I believe our school isn’t at as high of a risk compared to other schools and communities. I do believe that a metal detector in our school is just one more step for safety, but is not crucial. There are generally two stances on metal detectors: metal detectors make people feel safer, or they make them feel threatened. We could also take other, more subtle steps to making our school safer without metal detectors if not everyone agrees with the change. I also believe that this is something we shouldn’t have to worry about, but because it iis, putting in more security can decrease the risk of students and staff being put at harm. Many schools suffer from violence, but not all, and in order to keep everyone in the school safe, we need to put metal detectors or other improvements to security or infrastructure in place.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all many schools around the world lack safety in their building. They don’t always have effective security. Anyone going into the building could look like a parent or student. One way we can improve our security is by installing metal detectors, which could potentially save many lives. The metal detectors cost around $4,000 to $5,000. Although there are some disadvantages to metal detectors such as detecting jewelry, or other harmless metal objects, they still have many upsides. They prevent someone with harmful objects, for example guns, knifes, and more objects that could be classified as dangerous weapons, from entering the building.
Although metal detectors are just one thing, it can be a very effective improvement. It can help stop those with weapons to keep the school safe. Brandon Allred states in an article that, “Metal detectors are able to deter potential would-be criminals because the would-be criminal will think twice before walking through a security checkpoint.” Although if it does go off, the police or whoever monitors the metal detectors shouldn’t pin them to the ground or yell. Rather calmly ask them to step off to the side, it could be a weapon or not, and we don’t need anyone being attacked for doing nothing wrong, unless computers are used to see what the metal object could be.
Next, in a different article on metal detectors, a school safety director named Bryan Vaughn states, “The people who might bring a weapon to school need to feel very uncomfortable. They need to feel like they could be subject to a search at any time.” At the Lancaster school sometimes individual class searches are done, staff bring them out into the hall, put them through a metal detector and use dogs for sniffing gunpowder. If they need a pat down then they go somewhere private with multiple witnesses. This system has been in place for over a year, and they’ve said that they haven’t had any weapons on their campus. Although this is only one example, the metal detectors and the schools system clearly work and have had good results.
From my research I haven’t found any stories of someone getting caught with a weapon, although there is data of weapons being confiscated. Only about half of all of these amounts were confiscated by metal detectors. Confiscated meaning to take someone’s possessions from them. Even though it was only half of the numbers, metal detectors clearly have an effect, and are beneficial in some aspects. In 2014 to 2015 - 1,673 weapons were confiscated, 2015 to 2016 - 2,053 weapons and lastly 2016 to 2017 - 2,120 weapons. Again only half of those weapons have been confiscated. Looking at the numbers you can tell that more and more weapons have been confiscated. Although it isn’t good that the number is higher, meaning more people have weapons, it simply shows that the metal detectors are doing their job so no one is put at risk.
ReplyDeleteAfter many steps have been taken towards improving school safety, unfortunately we still suffer from it. If there is anything that will make an effect or slight improvement to any schools it would be metal detectors. The metal detectors could save hundreds of people in the school or even thousands. Again, although it is only one thing, it could slightly improve our school’s safety. Obviously it’s not going to solve everything but it is a change that could potentially save lives. Rather than putting in metal detectors and making it, “feel like a prison,” hopefully it gives everyone that goes to the school a bit of reassurance, including their family. I believe schools in this generation almost make students and staff a little uneasy and could feel threatening, but by taking this one step it could change everything. School safety is a problem, clearly if there is still school violence happening, then no one is taking the right steps to making our schools safe.
There have been 323 fatal mass shootings so far in the United States in just 2018. One idea to stop these is to get resource officers. This would help kids stay focused on there work and not be worried about other things, We should get better security or safety at schools to help stop this issue or reduce the numbers of people who shoot up schools or breakin schools. Resource officers would help make schools more safe.
ReplyDeleteResource officers would help students be more productive and safe. Lately in the news there have been shootings or break ins. In the past decade the amount of shootings have gone up whether that's in schools or in public areas. There have been cases of resource officers not helping and hiding from the intruder, but if we had more than one then chances are that they both won't hide.
There are many thoughts on how to fix this problem in schools. One is to hire resource officers to stop these problems and to make student students more productive. When there is an officer in the school students feel more safe and get more work done. Even the good behavior of students goes up and there is less juvenile arrests.
And if someone were to break into a school the officers could stop it. If some does attempt to break in the guards could stop them before any major damage is done to any student, faculty or the building. Some people that threaten to shoot up or actually shoot up the school have escaped and with officers already on the grounds it would be harder to get away.
We should get resource officers. We should get resource officers because they make students more productive. They also make schools more safe. And it can stop a potentially dangerous person from getting in and harming staff and student.
Schools around the world have many problems with safety. Many schools have officers or people to help. I think schools should have metal detectors to detect guns bombs or other weapons. Metal detectors could help stop that but not all the time. Metal detectors can protect students and staff. School shootings are a big problem in the us and we could reduce the amount of that happening by using metal detectors to protect schools.

Many students witness a shooting and are lucky to be alive but to see something like that as a child scars you and sometimes students have to go to counseling.
Metal detectors send magnetic waves through the clothing and other objects to get to any metal contained in the clothing or other areas on the body. For example if a student were to have a gun, bomb, weapon ect. The magnetic waves might catch there is something there and make the sirinces go off alarming that there might be a weapon or threat to the school or people around it.
Some schools have officers or other helping people to stop a shooting but what about if you had to walk through a metal detector to get into the schools alarming there was a gun or a weapon to stop the shooting before it could even begin. Metal detectors are sometimes better than police. Police can't always tell if someone has a gun or not.
This concludes that there should be metal detectors in schools to help keep students and staff safe and stop shootings before they happen and people lose their children. Metal detectors can help help keep away guns, bombs, and any weapons.

Everyone's goal at school is to help students learn, but to learn effectively students must also feel safe. Ever since the tragic event at Columbine High School that took 13 lives, school safety laws have been challenged. In 2018, 56 people were killed in K-12 schools due to gun violence. Many students oppose the idea of arming teachers, claiming that adding more guns does not make schools safer, but if a school shooting does occur, an armed teacher could dismantle the threat before serious damage is done.
Teachers and faculty members should have the choice to be trained in the proper gun safety and handling of a firearm, but only after undergoing a background check and a psychological evaluation. If a teacher already has a concealed carry permit, they should be allowed to carry and remain among the other anonymous teachers who would do so as well. When interested teachers complete their courses, all trained individuals should pack with close watch by local police to ensure proper safety precautions. There is always a chance that the shot from the teacher will miss their target, “My biggest fear is missing and hitting a student. But that's the risk you take by carrying a gun. May I miss? Yeah, possibly. But would you rather have 50 kids killed or one?” says Karl Donnelson, an already armed teacher from Colorado.
In every news article that covers a school shooting, there is always at least one faculty member who charges towards the gunmen, trying to save the lives of others while risking their own. If that teacher was armed, they wouldn’t be running towards a possible killer knowing that death awaits them, just to give the other teachers time to hide their students. If that teacher was allowed to carry, and ran towards the cuplerate, they could be able to confront the issue, even if that means shooting. “I would run towards the gunfire. Try to find out who it is and take care of it”, A teacher from Colorado said. Which would save the lives of many more, and possibly even themselves.
There have been many ideas proposed in the aspect of school safety, such as anonymous report systems and more counseling. While these ideas may help prevent the issue of school violence, they don't address further action on what to do when it actually happens. If the school puts preventative ideas into their budget they are leaving out the inevitable truth. School shootings do occur and at an alarming rate. Schools can increase their security to help prevent the chance of a gun being brought to school, students can be presented with viable options to talk about mental health. But as soon as a school goes under lockdown, what happens then? Arming teachers work because it is a certain stop to a school shooting, the gunman isn't going to continue firing. It is also more cost effective than school resources officers.
Students all around America are being told that if a shooter got into their classroom, that they should throw textbooks or anything else that would distract the gunman. If the adult in that classroom, most likely the teacher, was to be trained and armed, those students wouldn't have to look death straight in the eyes. The teacher would be able to handle the situation according to what it was.
To ensure school safety, many different ideas need to be enforced. If a school only has metal detectors, what happens when a gun is brought in through other ways? If the only safety measure is arming teachers, doesn't that seem to allow someone to bring a gun, nothing would be stopping them from getting it into the building. There needs to be a balance between tools to prevent school gun violence and tools to help students stay safe once the shooter has broken through those precautions. With a combination of these tactics, schools with be safer for everyone in them.
To help improve our school safety in school there should be a ID badge policy that has your name and grade level on it,as well as your school name.The badge policy will be a good way for people to communicate to new people.The effects that it will have and help for our school is that strangers wouldn't be able to go into school unless they have a badge or come in through the front.There should be a machine or custodian at the entrances at the beginning of the day that scans your badge so you can get into school if you are a student.A incident occurred in a school in india when a man wearing camouflage walking down the hall with a firearm turned out to be an officer.The teachers had no idea of the person and began to worry.In that instance it shows that Id badges come into place when you should have them.That leads to show that there should be an id badge policy in school.
ReplyDeleteThe first reason that there should be a school id badge policy is that it helps prevent strangers and random people from entering the school building in the morning,and after school as well.It helps by when someone random enters the building they stand out compared to others that have a id badge on.The badge will prevent people from entering the building by having to scan the badge before entering the building so that the stranger gets locked out during or in the morning of the day.There has been instances where a random person has entered the building unnoticed.In several toledo area school buildings.He was walking around the school casually wearing jeans and a jacket for 15 minutes unnoticed.That is another example of why there should be an id badge policy in schools.
Another reason the ID badge policy in school that will help with school safety is that it keeps students from feeling “invisible’’ or unknown,by showing what their name is and who they are so people can talk to them.That will help with them from feeling alone.Many people will get to interact with new people once they know each other's names.In an article it shows that the Id badge also helps kids towards when they are adults with many things that will need information like your name,birth date,race,and ect things that occur as an adult in order to get jobs or go out of the country.

Each and every day every school has a possibility that there will be a school shooting. Some schools need new ways to keep the children safe. While the kids are at school they should be able to feel safe in their environment. In most cases most school shootings that happen are kids that go to that school or have previously gone to that school that do the shooting. Something that could be done to keep the kids safe is having a school psychologist.
ReplyDeleteSomething that having a school psychologist at a school would do would be that it would create a positive school wide environment. Some students in school do not feel safe and having a school psychologist would prevent that by giving the students someone to talk to about the things they are not feeling safe about. It also would prevent negative energy from being in the school, hallways, and classrooms.
Another thing that having a school psychologist at a school would having to psychologist at the school host positive intervention groups because bringing most positive energy in the school is a good thing because the students would then take responsibility for their part in maintaining safe school environments and safety planning.
My last reason that having a school psychologist at a school to prevent school shootings is having the counselor do counseling services so the kids are able to go and talk to someone privately and not worry about anything they say being told to anyone. They also could report any information they know about any threats or students or people planning on harming the lives and putting the students lives at danger to the psychologist without them being blamed for it.
So since each and every day that goes by that there is a possibility of a school shooting and that the students are scared and worried and that the schools need to come up with better ways to keep the children safe I strongly think that having a school psychologist at every school would really help and put a huge impact on each and every school because they would create a positive school wide environment, having positive intervention groups, and having counseling services. Would all prevent violence and prevent the students lives at school.
Schools are safe but are they really school shooting threats and many other bad things involving schools happen a lot and everywhere in the us . in 2018 there is an average of 1 school shooting a week . So what can be done to help prevent these types of things happening .

I think that schools should carry firearms this would help prevent school shooting everywhere and it would most likely scare off any body that wanted to shoot up the school but there are some problems with this . many teachers don't like having the idea of holding a gun or even shooting one . Also a typical handgun cost $200 to $1200so arming teachers will get expensive ( schools are practically sitting ducks they have nothing to defend themselves with .
How does it work
The teacher would have a small safe hidden in her room with a key or pin that they must use to get in the safe with no student or anyone else would not be able to nowhere the safe is and if a school shooter dos come they could easily unarm him/her with his/her pistol .
Why does it work
The reason this would work is because people would not come to school where all kids of teachers are armed because they simply/probably don't want to get shot and it's just simple and there are already schools doing it to and you don't see people coming to shoot there school up .
School safety is a very touchy subject in the world today. One idea may be accepted and used already in almost every school. While another could be shut down because of one flaw. But all have the same goal, to ensure that children remain safe in classes. And one of the ways is by implementing new technology that allows you to see what people have on them. Another is updating the infrastructure.
ReplyDeleteIn schools, children should feel safe and secure inside of there classes, not frightened or miniscule like a rat cowering in a corner, waiting for you to walk away. This problem is prevalent is schools. According to “Info Please”, since 2009 there are at least 98,817 schools in the US and according to CNN, 288 of those schools were shot since 2009. And ours may be the the next one, so we need to prepare.
A very simple and widely used way to start saving lives, is by putting metal detectors around the doors to monitor what the people walking in have on them. It will not only sound an alarm if a metal is found, but it will also show an image of what it is. So if it was a gun, you can see the make and model of the weapon as well as the serial code to help report the incident. Now granted, putting up 8 machines would be costly, it comes down to one question, would you rather lose some money, or lose a child's life?
A few complications to this idea may be cost. According to tssbuletprof.com, “metal detectors may cost anywhere between 1,000 to 30,000 dollars, but the 4,000 to 5,000 range offers more options suitable to a school environment.” Another is convenience. If many people go through one door, it may cause a big jam. But it's just another instance where you can teach discipline and order to keep them in one line.
The other way for us to keep children safe is by putting more yellow pylons around the windows. They act as weak points in the walls. Any car can drive just as easy into the windows as the door, so having some pylons there would help to mitigate damage. The infrastructure of the school is great, but more could be done to improve it.
We all know that the importance of safety in the schools is very important, and we also know that that there are many ways to keep them safe. So I hope that after you read this, you can see why we need some of the items in the article.
