Explore Space with a K-W-H-L

Science Class

On Wednesday, we will begin our Space unit in science.  Today, I want you to do a little exploring.  The directions for our activity are on the top of the Google Doc linked below.  Be sure to save a copy before you get started!

When you are done, post the most interesting thing you learned today in class.

  2. I learned about a new galaxy called z8_GND_5296, its the most disant from the our galaxy. Also, the universe is expanding so the galaxy turns red from our view and thats called "red shift".

  4. The most interesting thing I learned is that a mass of a black hole can be up to 10 Billion of our suns. Imagine how big that is!!

  7. The most interesting thing I read was about the sun and how it gives us energy and light everyday. It is the brightest star in the Galaxy.

  8. The sun is nearly 27 million degrees at it's core but just about 10 million degrees at it's surface.

  9. The most interesting thing that I learned about was why the milky way was actually called the milky way. But my other one is how many galaxies are there in the universe and there are a lot. So it's kinda a tie for me.

    2. The milky way was called the milky way because the latin name for our galaxy is Via Lactea and it translates to a road of milk and it appears to be a milky patch of the sky that rings the earth. There you go Lacey! :)

  11. I learned that the first women to ever go into space was Sally Ride. She was awarded the Presidential medal of Freedom on November 20, 2013.

  13. How Pluto got its name:
    It was suggested by an 11 year old girl from Oxford, England. She thought of it as a Roman god of the underworld, not the Disney Character.

  29. The most interesting thing that I learned was that space was created by stars that had a massive fire-heat explosion and the fire mixed with gravity and space was made.

  30. The most interesting thing I found was a couple of british scientists dropped a balloon in space. When they got the balloon It didn't collect dust which was unusal. The balloon also collected organisms that were not from Earth.
