  1. Halloween night
It was the time of the year when kids go house to house asking “trick or treat” hoping it's a treat not a trick. This day you want to make sure your older kids know what to do and what not to do. The website healthychildren.org has good safety tips for your kids like ¨kids never enter a house or car for a treat¨.
    Going into the house
This particular day some kids did the opposite, not only going into the house but down into the basement. Those kids thought it was a normal house, all they wanted was more candy. The kids went up to the elder lady's house once they knocked the lady answered. After she answered they got invited into the house. It was 7 kids to be exact only 3 went downstairs to see the christmas decorations, the other 4 ran out of the house. The kids could have declined the offer but they went down to see the decorations anyways.
Why they went into the house
They must not have known that what they did was dangerous. It makes you think did they know what they were doing? Did they just want to be nice? Luckily those kids made it out safe and nothing happened to them. Next year these kids should have learned their lesson.

  2. A Mom and son were going to a zoo with a couple of friends and a girl. Before we know it We, all get to the bat section. The mom is scared of bats. As long as she stood there, she did not want to keep going and was scared really bad leaning against her boyfriend.

She then sprints towards the exit and gets out. She is like that was nasty. Even though the bats, being in the cage was safe, she was scared. So then the mom thought it was done. But she saw more and ran away again. So then we get past the zoo part but the bat with the jungle area. Was not in a cage. So some were flying around. And one swoops down to her hair because there was a mosquito flying above her head and the mom thought that she was getting attacked but was not. But anyway starts running, screaming, She was super scared at that moment thought she was getting attacked and went to the exit. They all laughed thinking it was funny. After that the mom parent was really scared, and shaky.

Some saftey things from university of flordia are not to swat at bats or run away. But in cases they will not attack. Unless they are threatened. Never swat at a bat because they might attack. Just watch out for falling things such as urine and guano becuase bats like that type of stuff.

  3. One day drying the evening when I was living with my aunt and uncle. So my aunt was going to get this new robe that she was going to give to me and when she came down stair she said that she could not get it because there was a bat in their room. IT took like an hour to get rid of the bat. So my uncle was trying to get the bat tired but after that he could not catch the bat so he ended up getting his beegun and then shot the bat. Then he put it in a box then I think he threw it out some were in the garbage. Instead of doing that he should have trapped it in a box then went outside and let the bat go.

  4. The incident
Yesterday at about 2pm a girl from Portage WI want out of her class room for a three minute break. When the class left for break her cromebook was normal. Most of the students and teachers were the bathroom and hallway and only a few kids were in the room, but when they all got back in the classroom something had happened.
    Why
At BMS the kids have had many problems with chromebooks and not breaking them. But, it was weird that someone broke a chromebook that didn't belong to them. Many people have small damages with their chromebook like broken keys of a lag in the curseur. A broken screen is a bigger problem. The Portage hand book says that if you have damages to your chromebook you have ot pay for the damages.
    The kind of solution
When the girl came back to her desk to start to do her work and opened her chromebook the whole screen was cracked. After seeing this she was the student started to cry. The girl was so upset because she new that the schools policy for chromebook damage was that if your chromebook broke you had to pay for the damage. No one knows who did it and no one will say anything.
When the teacher say the student crying she went up to her and asked her what happened. The girl told the teacher the story. She was schooked and immediately asked the class who did it. When no one answered she told the class that is no one spoke up the principal would have to talk to everyone about it. It is still a mystery at BMS of who broke the students chromebook and who will pay for the damage.

  5. A family decided it was a good time to go to the local Walmart to find dinner that night. They walked through the store, searching the various aisles as the family’s 9 year old son, Alex, was zoning out.
TheTreeTop.com studies say that the average attention span is around 8 and a half seconds. This can vary on age and environment, but usually young kids have the smallest attention span, especially when they are bored. They continued walking through the stores, as Alex’s mind was stirring. He was excited about all the cool toys in the aisles, hoping his parents might get them for his birthday. He continued walking, completely unaware of the huge, metal beam in front of him. He walked right into it, smashing his forehead against the giant pole.
“They kept laughing at me, and it was embarrassing. Although it wasn’t very funny then, I can laugh about it now,” Alex said in an interview about the situation. Why did Alex run into that huge pole? The answer is, we don’t really know. He knew there were poles around him that he could’ve hit, but he didn’t miss this one. Was it because he was focused on the cool toys? Was he trying to be funny? Whatever it was, his family found it very amusing, as they all stopped in the aisle, laughing hard.
In the end, it wasn’t a very funny experience for him, but it was an entertaining point in his life that he can look back on with friends and have a chuckle over. This was an interesting experience to write about. I would have loved to see this happen in person, as it was a very funny experience.

  6. Deciding Costume Choices. . .
It was a cold, dark night in Portage, Wisconsin. With it being Halloween night, it was extra spooky. Two teenagers went out trick-or-treating, the names, Josie and Nadia, as well as their pet cat, Cat. They were dressed up as they they going hunting while the animal in their animal carrier was their ‘little snack’, (Cat was a taco).

    Aftermath for Choice of Costume
Legend says the girls would go up to every house to get candy but before they did, one of them would ask if the candy giver liked their cat. The one with the backpack animal carrier proceeded to turn around to show the Gato Taco. With that, the candy giver would say “Aww is that an actual cat? Thats adorable!!”, and end up giving the girls extra candy to show their affection.

How to Wisely pick your Costume
Nadia and Josie’s way of trick-or-treating was to get tricky with the treat. Effectively, who wouldn’t love a fluffy orange cat in a Taco Costume also in a pet carrier? Wikipedia.com researches that when it comes to halloween, kids do almost anything for more candy. Their techniques would go from something like the girls did to even begging. A common way kids would easily get extra candy was to ‘be cute’. For example, a little kid a bit older than a toddler, dressed as a chubby animal or their favorite cartoon character. A trick like this would most likely work effortlessly if you were younger and not a teenager. Luckily, the girls came up with a way of ‘being cute’ as older kids.

  7. Today on October 31st, 2023, principal Mr. Neumaier came into the English class during the 7th hour at 1:08 and told the whole class Halloween is canceled. Due to past experiences from middle and high schoolers, the Governor had decided to cancel Halloween for all middle and high schoolers. It is on the same paper and uses the same font as regular school papers.
The letter states, ”The cancellation of trick-or-treating for middle school-aged students is not a decision made lightly, but we believe it is necessary to address and prevent any further misconduct during this holiday.” Over the past years there had been too many pranks that had gone wrong and there had been too much vandalism.
The 8th grade class could not believe that Halloween was canceled. Many students had been upset because of the short notice or about how much time and money they had spent on their costumes just to have halloween canceled. Many students had also started yelling saying there was no way this could be real, that there was no reason this could be happening. No one wanted to believe this was happening to them. Some had even started to cry.
The teacher had started giving students the paper so they could see for themselves that this was happening. Even the teacher had seemed to be shocked and surprised this was happening. That's when some students started to think this wasn't real. After looking at the paper one student exclaims, “Is this a trick instead of a treat? There's no way they would do this with such short notice.” That's when the teacher had said she was right. It was a trick. Halloween was not canceled. It had been a joke for their English lesson. Many had been relieved to find out it was a prank.

  10. Breaking News at Bardle’s Middle School
    The Letter-
On the day of Halloween at Bardles Middle School; Mr. Podoll the principal pranked the whole 8th grade. Mr. Podoll had the English teachers go along too. Mr. Podoll came into the rooms and informed them that the Portage Community Office sent a letter. The letter read, “Dear 8th 8th grade students, Halloween is canceled this year due to some activities last year in the 8th grade. To prevent these activities we decided to cancel Halloween this year.” The students freaked out after hearing the news.
    The Truth-
One of the classes, Ms. DeVries taught especially went crazy. The class had her read off the letter. The students analyzed the letter to see if it was fake or not. They found that there were no signatures, email, wasn’t in a seal, and no phone number on the paper. The students guessed it was fake. The students all agreed that someone is pranking the principal. Ms. DeVries then revealed that it was a prank. One of the classes actually believed the prank. The prank wasn’t just for fun. It was because of their assignment. Their assignment was to write about a moment of drama. They made a staged scene to give an idea for what to write.
Towns that have rules for Halloween-
Even though this was a prank there are actual towns that have an age restriction. Charleston, South Carolina has an age restriction. Anyone above the age of 16 cannot go trick or treating. Plus, they cannot wear Halloween masks anywhere. Another place is Chesapeake, Virginia. Anyone trick or treating on Halloween past 8pm will get a Class 4 Misdemeanor. Also, anyone above the age of 14 will get a Class 4 Misdemeanor. They also have this in their rules for their town.

  11. Halloween with Eighth graders

It was a cool morning in wisconsin. It was one of those days where you could just smell the crisp air outside and knew it was fall. The date was October 31st, Halloween. 8th graders that were most likely to old to be trick or treating were out going house to house. You could hear them from blocks away running after there friends, and screaming dramatically at the scary animatronics.

    Trick or treat
As every middle schooler would they were trying to find their favorite teachers house. On their way they found a large mansion that normally ended up looking vacant, but not this year it had lights in beautiful purple and orange colors. It had pumpkins in the window and on the doorsteps all carved out like an artist had carved them. The children went to ring the doorbell and right then an old lady opened the door. “Come in, come in” the lady said as everyone shuffled inside without a care in the world. What were these teens thinking? The old lady asked if they wanted to come in the basement to see her christmas decorations.

    Exploring the home
These teen obviously had no common sense they walked down stairs and explored the whole area. It was quite fascinating a workout room, antique nut crackers, and a queen size bed in the middle of the room. They all had some sense knocked into them because when she asked if they wanted to see the rest of the house the denied the offer and left, but not without their candy. They all grabbed the full sized candy bars that they were promised.

    A lesson well learned
As they ran out the door there were other children waiting to come in. “Don't go in, Don't go in their” they yelled while running away. As they continued walking to the next house they all realized how stupid they were for walking into that basement.

How to stay safe on halloween
I know these 8th graders sure did learn a large lesson this halloween. So you should learn a lesson too. Although without getting invited into someone's basement part. A few things to note, Wear safe costumes, stay in well lit areas, Be in a group, Examine candy before consuming it, Stranger danger, and finally have a device on you for emergency contact.

  12. What Occurred
There were a lot of people enjoying their day at Paris’s famous Champs-Elysees. Some people were looking for clothes at Louis Vuitton. A lot of other people were either driving or admiring expensive cars. Even with all of the people walking around, there were some people sitting against the buildings, in sleeping bags. Despite all of the people around that had enough wealth to shop at expensive stores, nobody came to help. It really was depressing to see all of these wealthy people walking by the homeless like they were statues.
    How You Can Help
You can help homeless by donating to one of the many foundations meaning to help them. A few well-known organizations for helping the homeless are the Salvation Army, Habitat for Humanity, and The National Coalition for the Homeless. These organizations do not work for profits, and are very much interested in helping people. The volunteers for these organizations work hard to build homeless shelters, get food, and even build new houses for the homeless. If none of these things work for you, a few actions that you personally could take is help fund a nearby homeless shelter, volunteer for one of the charities, or even just give homeless people money or food. It doesn’t have to be grand, it just has to be something, and if you can help even a little, it is suggested that you do.
    What people think
Multiple students at a school in Wisconsin were shown a video of the scene described in the first paragraph. At first they seemed slightly upset, and then as it was revealed how wealthy the people walking around in the video seemed, the students only seemed to get more upset. A few even questioned why the person taking the video did not help. One student in particular said, “I can’t believe that those people didn’t even help those poor people!”

  14. The Teacher and Principal Pranked us

On October 31 2023, The principal and the teacher tried to trick the kids in the class. How they tricked the kids in Ms. Devries class is, they said, that the school board and the other people in charge of the school couldn’t go trick or treating; it was all a prank. It was an important event, but nobody believed it. Ms. Devries and Mr. Podol did the prank in the classroom. The kids in Ms.Devries class said, “it was pretty easy to tell because he was smirking the whole time.” Ms. Devries the teacher and Mr. Podol the principal decided to do the prank at precisely 2:20 in the afternoon right after the 8th hour bell rang at school. The reason they did this is because it was part of the lesson plan to think of a story like this so that we can make a news article about it.

Trick or Treating is Banned in Some States

In all, not being able to trick or treat was fake but according to npr.org, there are some places like Rayne Louisiana, and Jacksonville Florida, that only allow kids under 13 to go trick or treating. Belleville Illinois also doesn’t let people go trick or treating under 8th grade. Even if somebody pranks you still should enjoy trick or treating.

  15. Halloween’s cancelled
This afternoon the portage school district staged the the canceling of halloween. During the 8/9 hour of the day in Ms.DeVries classroom Mr.Podoll came into the classroom with important information. He showed the class a letter about halloween had been canceled for grades 6-8 due to too many cases of vandalism and inappropriate pranks. “This is not a decision that has been taken lightly but is a decision we must take.”
    Halloween not cancelled?
When Mr.Podoll had left the classroom with the devastating news the kids could not contain themselves. There was an outrage of weather it was real or fake, but when some of the kids in the class had seen that there were now watermarks and that there was no contact information they had figured out pretty quick that it was fake.
    Halloween in other places
While this instance was just a joke to prank the students some cities have banned halloween for older kids. In chesapeake, va had a law from the 1970’s that banned all teens over the age of 14 to go trick or treating, and a violation of this law could land you over 6 months in jail. Now this law isn't a thing now but it was for a very long time.

  16. On the Bridge

On a warm May morning, a group of young fishermen were fishing on a small bridge next to a beach on Silver Lake. One appeared to have a large fish on the line. By the time that I reached the bridge where they they were standing, the fishermen’s pole was almost bent in half and a mini traffic jam had started on the bridge of people recording.

    No Net… Uh Oh

I saw the fish jump about halfway across the lake and I began running over. I heard one of them say that they didn’t have a net, so one of the boy’s friends were on the phone trying to get one of their parents to help. When they reeled it all they way in, they could see the fish through the clear water. It was a muskellunge, the wisconsin state fish. It had an elongated, olive green body with brown stripes.

    Time for the Landing

Once their parents had arrived, like the hero riding into the town to save the day, they landed the fish with the net; and one grabbed it by the gill plate. The fisherman held the fish high in a moment of triumph, took a few pictures, and released it back into the cold water.

  17. Lost at Devils Lake?
The chattering of voices talking without regards to the many conversations happening was distracting. So distracting, that it caused the group leaders to accidentally walk down the wrong path. The group separated from adults was a group of 21 students from Mr Mcconnell and Mrs. Biehl's group. Most kids did not notice they were lost until 30 minutes passed.

Few of the students came together to try to find their way to a road. Rylend Bredemann decided to use google maps to locate where they were. After this discover, all students collectively agree to scale down the mountain and try to find a road. Once they would find a road they would continue to follow the road to try to get back to the northside of devils lake.

After walking for on the road for 5 minutes, they decide it would be good to call another student. Philip steiger was the student called and he relayed the information to Mr. Bohrer who then promptly told the students to walk following the railroad tracks.

The students would then see both Mr Bohrer, and Phillip steiger walking towards them also on the railroad tracks. Many of the students exclaimed in happiness and decided to run towards their new saviors. Mr Bohrer would then say a few words that would cause all students to swell with pride. The words he said were “What you guys just did was very Brave. I am very proud of you all for what you have done.” The group then decided to take a selfie and walk back to the buses.

  18. On Halloween night At 5:30pm an older kid pushed this little kid so he could get to the candy first and the little kid started to cry because he fell on the ground and sprained his foot. The older kid started to laugh and run up to get candy. The parents of the little boy did not like that he pushed their kid and yelled at the older kid.
The Older kid must of had a bad day before halloween. The people who were handing the candy out didn't let him have some so they told him to go somewhere else because they didn't like that tolerance. The older kid was mad because he wasn’t able to get any candy. He started to stomp his feet and shove other kids out of the way. There were some other people who saw that and didn’t allow him to get any candy. We all know when he is older all the bullying is going to come back to him.
They gave the little kid extra candy because he got pushed and they felt bad. Apparently the parents looked up the kid who pushed their kid to the ground because he had his name on his shirt and when they looked him up there were already bad reviews about the kid because, every year he pushes kids out of the way so he can get the candy first. When he is older he is going to regret pushing these little kids.

  19. Part I: The Prank
On a particularly cold day in October, Halloween, to be exact, a principal interrupted an English class with “important news” he had to share. The principal read off an urgent newsletter from the head office, clearly stating that this years’ Halloween trick-or-treating event was canceled due to destruction of property, vandalism, and endangerment of citizens in the Portage area. The students were understandably shocked and upset, and chaos erupted like a volcano. Some students claimed to have spent great sums of money on their costumes, and others stating they spent lots of time crafting theirs, the turmoil seemed to last for ages. Even their English teacher was in shock, snatching the paper out of the principal's hands to take a look for themselves, and it did in fact say that the event was canceled this year. Amongst the chaos, a few students pondered if this whole scheme was a silly prank pulled by their dear principal. Sure enough, shortly after the principal left the room, the teacher revealed the truth, all of this nonsense was just a trick.
    Part II: The Reality
While this was just a silly prank, the cancellation of trick-or-treating has been a thing in many places for various reasons. It's said on nbcwisconsin.com, that crime/vandalism rate goes up by a whopping 15% on Halloween night, meaning that trick-or-treating has been canceled in many places. To keep your house safe while out trick-or-treating, it’s a good idea to lock all your doors and make your house appear occupied;if possible, keep a family member at home to keep an eye on everything. The NBC also says it's a good idea to blow out/put out any and all fires or candles left alight inside, if no one is staying behind. It’s also a good idea to have a neighbor keep an eye on things if no one is staying behind. In short, keeping your house safe from potential thieves or pranksters. On the note of pranksters, don’t trust your principal if they are telling you something from the city, as they may be just pulling a harmless prank.

  20. What to do Amazon packages from being missing

It is the time of year where everybody buys Amazon packages for Christmas. You think you will be ordering whatever you and your family wish to order and it will be shipped to you. Sometimes Amazon packages go missing. Why do Amazon packages go missing exactly? Sometimes it is because the package is not there yet, or sometimes it is just missing. Do not panic or think someone stole it yet. Be patient with yourself and talk with Amazon. Amazon should tell you if anything happened. Hopefully your package is fine.
For example, in one incident in Portage, Wisconsin last year, a daughter and mother were waiting for a package to be delivered from Amazon for one of the ordered Christmas presents. Later that evening, the mother received notification that the package was delivered and went outside to the front porch to retrieve the ordered package but there was no product inside. The package was completely empty. The mother was eager to know what happened to the package but did not have time to wait for a refund so she reordered the gift. She reported the missing package to Amazon later. So, the mother and the daughter went back to the Amazon app and ordered the same thing, hoping that the package would come with the product ordered inside. Luckily, on December 25th, Christmas morning, the package arrived with the product inside. It came in time to get wrapped for the family.

How to handle a missing package

If your package goes missing you should do the following:

Go to Android Police website and read all about what happens to missing packages. The Android Police site shows the following steps of reporting your missing Amazon package: First track your package under Order History on the Amazon site and if it shows that it has been delivered check around your home and nearby homes for your package. Next, check under Order Details on the Amazon site to be certain the shipping address is correct and if it is correct, report directly to Amazon your missing package, so Amazon is notified and can see that your Amazon package is missing.
The next option is to use Plan B. Plan B is if you track your package, report a missing package, then you can just order that same package again hoping that the package will actually come. Plan B was exactly what the mother and daughter did to have their Christmas present in time.
Use these tips if you run into the missing or empty package situation. To everyone who had missing packages please make sure you tracked your package, and reported your package. I am sorry to the people who had lost their packages.

  21. t was a friday morning when a mother of three kids, living in portage wisconsin. Came into each of her kids rooms one by one spilling the bad new. There dog had passed away. The mother wasn't sure how but they live in the country and last night when they let her out she never came back. They thought that maybe a coyote had gotten the dog. Since they live by a woods or maybe she got hit by a car because they live by the highway they still don’t know why there dog never came back that night.

Shorty after they had all gotten in the car ready to dive to school and all of a sudden they all saw there dog running up the driveway covered in mud. They were all very shocked by this the mother got out of the car and ran up to the dog and raced with it inside to the house to clean her up.

If your dog ever goes missing you should check with neighbors if you have them. And check local shelters, But if it’s missing for a longer time than this family’s was American Humane suggested that you print out fliers and advertise you can also use social media to spread the word and get people to help you search, also did you known that 11-15% of dogs go missing at least once in five years.

  22. don’t/Try not to leave friends out

It’s fall now which means halloween is coming up. It’s time for friends to go and have a good time trick or treating, with matching costumes or non matching costumes. It could be of a tv show or it could be of something in real life. On this halloween A girl in portage wisconsin named —----- got asked to go with her friends to go trick or treating. They all plan on going as frat boys, but the day of halloween the friends told her that they weren’t going to go trick or treating as frat boys anymore there going to be something from a cartoon. —----- said that she felt extremely left out, and she really didn’t know how to feel at the same time.

    Kindness

Some of her —---- went up to her to see if she was ok, and found out she wasn’t. They asked her if she wanted to go with them so that they could all have a good time. she says maybe but she knows that the two girls feel bad, but she doesn't know if she should go with them anymore. “What am I going to do my mom and —--- mom is expecting me to go to —--- house.” she said, She was stressing out the whole day about it.

    How it ended

When the bell rang all the kids rushed to their lookers. —--- was standing by her locker getting everything in her backpack, the 2 other girls walked up to her and asked her if she was ok and wanted to still go with her. They apologized to her, and they left to —--- house. They all go together

    Research

To prevent stuff like this happening to you. You can do small acts of kindness to show that you're not leaving them out. You should also be extremely honest to prevent them feeling left out, sad, and anxious. Try to also go out of your way to tell them stuff that they should know. Also try to remember important dates.

  23. Streets of Paris

    What’s happening now?
On a chill Paris, France morning on an unknown certain date there was an unfortunate sight. There were some people who were sitting on the side of Champs - Elysees ; a famous Paris street with a some blankets and these people appeared to be homeless while sitting on the street.

    That’s a big comparison.
When some people there looked past ; they saw 3 expensive supercars that were each worth over $150,000 including 1 Ferrari and 2 Lamborghini’s. This was a sad comparison in the world because there was presumably a lot of wealth with the people that had expensive cars but then very little wealth that might have nothing but their one pair of clothes and their blankets. “That’s crazy right?” asks one teacher from BMS in Portage, Wisconsin when the video was reviewed in a classroom.

    Just Wow.
In Comparison, in 2020 36,580 supercars were sold around the world and there were over 35,000 homeless people in Paris alone. This most likely happened because of the bombing in Syria as since 2011, 14 million citizens have left Syria in search of safety, and many of them went to France .If you would like to help some of the homeless population like what was probably seen during this moment then donate to a foundation in Paris like Depaul France who has provided 75,499 beds, 137,321 meals, and 3,729 medical treatments that were all made possible by people who had donated money to the organization.

  26. A moment of drama last night on October 31st, 2023 was that people were being really dramatic. One girl was being dramatic about being cold, if she was so cold she would have brought gloves. There was also this one person who had an entire tub full of candy. Not like a bathtub but one of those like clear plastic totes that was completely full of halloween candy. A house on West Conant street had their entire front yard covered with halloween decorations.

  27. On October 31st, the night of Halloween There was a group of kids trick or treating. As the kids walked up to a house, The Lady who was passing out candy to the kids offered to let them inside to see her christmas decorations.

According to safekids.org someone offering to go inside their house is a bad idea, but the group of kids went in anyway. Luckily the group of kids was ok, this is still a bad idea to go into a stranger’s house.

Safekids.org says Some tips to stay safe on halloween, one of these tips are to walk and not run because that is a hazard to cars on the road because they could hit you. One other tip is not just a tip for halloween but all time it is not to go into stranger’s houses for candy or cars but this day some kids did the other.

The kids had not listened to their parents when they said “Don't accept candy from strangers” but the person who owned this house wanted them to go into the basement and that's what they did. This is super dangerous. Please do not do anything like what these kids did.
