Chapter 5 ActivityJanuary 22, 2014
The scientists at JPL created and shared arguments both for and against climbing into Endurance. The author shared two of those arguments. Your job will be to analyze the arguments made by the scientists on the google doc. The link is below.
When you are done, write a comment about who you believe made a better argument. Make sure you give good details about why you think that scientists argument was better!
Should Opportunity go to Endurance?
Steve Squyres made a better argument because the rover was due to break anytime so it might as well go down trying. ANd we would learn a lot more about Mars if we go into the crater.
ReplyDeleteI think Steve's was better because he said spirit is going to die any way why not die in a good place making good discovery. he also said that it was ten times more geological than anything they had ever seen before.
ReplyDeleteI think I agree with Matt because i don't want Opportunity to die because that would just like my baby brother Wyatt dieing.
ReplyDeleteI think Steve had a butter argument because if the rover was going to die why not let it die trying and if he made it they could find good thing like if there was water or other things.
ReplyDeleteI believe Steve Squyres had a better argument because Opportunity would die soon, and there might be possible signs of life. Even if Opportunity died in the crater, that doesn't mean the mission should end. The crater could STILL be searched.
ReplyDeleteI think steve did a better job because there can be signs of water and it is the better place for he to die
ReplyDeleteI think steve did a better job because steve said opportunity is going to die anyways so let him die trying.
ReplyDeleteI think Steve's argument was better. He gave valid reasons and good arguments. Opportunity should be able to go to endurance.
ReplyDeleteI think that Steve was right because, there could be more to explore maybe signs of water and there could be layered bedrock from water. That opportunity is going to die why not go down fighting.
ReplyDeleteI think Steve did a better argument because he knew that it was a though and solid ground. Also he bilieved himself because he did not want to give up on the mission.I mean whats the point of giving up after so long so we should just die trying.:)
ReplyDeleteSteve did better because the rover is going to die soon so you could get in the hole and it could study the layers of rocks.
ReplyDeleteI think Steve Squires did a better job presenting, because he had more things to back him up. He knew Opportunity would die any way, he also knew this could finally prove there was once water on Mars. He brought booth of those things into the light. It also helped when the simulation made it up the re-creation easily. The people deciding knew all that, so that helped make the choice. On the other hand, Matt's biggest arguement was that it was dangerous. That's why I think Steve Squires' presentation was better.
ReplyDeleteI think Steve made a better argument because he wants to ake the best of this steep situation. Matt is thinking he is gonna die, and he is thinking on the negative side. Steve is trying to make the best of things.
ReplyDeleteI think Steve made a better argument.. Because he was very right about Opportunity having to die sooner or later. And he thinks if he has to dies somewhere he thinks the crater would be the best place for him to die. Also Steve doesnt give up. Whenever he want to do something he goes for it!

ReplyDeleteI think Steve did a better job with his argument. He is going to die anyway.. So at least die trying. You can probably learn more on the way to Endurance, and maybe a little bit when you get there even if he dies. So I say they should go and atleast try
ReplyDeleteI can really understand with that......
DeleteI think Steve had a better argument, because why just keep exploring the same thing. We should just explore new things, and maybe die trying to explore.
