January 29 or 30When people have to make a tough choice, they often make a Pro/Con list. In chapter 7, the scientists at JPL have two tough choices to make. Should they shut off safety features so that they can drive faster? Should they try to go to Victoria Crater?
You will be looking at one of those choices and making a Pro/Con list using the text on pages 52-53. When you are done, share your list with me.
Pro/Con List
ReplyDeletePRO - Reasons for the decision
New Discoveries.
Frozen water.
new minerals.
new textures in sand.
They might find some form of life.
There might be some form of asteroid that they haven’t ever discovered.
CON - Reasons against the decision
It could break.
It might not get enough sunlight.
It could be too steep.
some of the newer textures in the sand could suck up the rover like sinking sand.
There might be bigger rocks that it can’t go around.
pro;
ReplyDelete-They could learn so much
-They know the rovers will die soon anyway
-they might finally prove there’s water on mars
-this mission may be opportunity’s last, why not make it awesome
-they might find something super awesome and have a break-through there
con:-it could kill opportunity on the way there
-he could die if he falls into victoria
-what if it is the same stuff in this crater as the other two?
-why not go the other way, there might be something better
-Victoria Crater is probably way steeper than Endurance
-what if opportunity gets stuck?
PROS
ReplyDeleteOpportunity is the rover that has found the most they want to get a step up for Opportunity to reach that goal.
Opportunity was still healthy.
It would be easy to get to the Crater because it has a smooth surface to the Crater.
It was only 4 miles away (6 km.)
during this opportunity drove 582 feet (177.5 m)
CONS
Opportunity might not be able to climb back up the Crater.
Opportunity could run out of energy.
When it gets there Opportunity might not be able to go down the Crater.
the wheels might slip on the smooth surface.
