“The Drummer Boy Of Shiloh” is a short story by Ray Bradbury. It is about the experience of a boy named Joby before a battle at a place called Shiloh. There are three subtopics that I’m going to go through.
The first one is that Joby is scared to go into the war. He is scared because he doesn’t have a lot of confidence in himself and he thinks he is going to mess up or get killed. So because of this he doesn’t want to go into the war.
The second one is that the general talks to Joby. Since Joby was scared the general wanted to talk to him. When he talked to him he said that he was scared too. He said all of the other soldiers were too and they wanted to go home. After the general talked to Joby he thought about it.
The third and last one is Joby decided to not be afraid anymore. After the general talked to him, Joby thought about it for a while. After thinking about it he decided he wasn’t scared anymore. So since he wasn’t scared anymore he lead the American soldier into the war.
In conclusion, I feel Ray Bradbury’s message in the story is to not give up on yourself and always be prepared no matter how big or how small the thing is. I’ve learned a lot from this message and it has helped me a lot.
