It all started on October 14th, it was cook appreciation week. They were having amazing deals for lunch and the students were amazed. At al carte they had food that was usually a dollar for 85 cents. At the hot lunch line they had extra food to give to the students. One of the cooks had special prizes for the students. They had pencils, stickers, and many more surprises. The students were delighted with all the deals and extra food they were getting and they were very grateful. They also had to remember these staff members do a lot for them and they deserve respect and recognition. “ I’m very grateful and happy for the cooks and all they do.” said one student. They have been providing for the students all year and will continue doing it for the rest of the year. The students are unhappy that the week is over but “ It was nice to have a change.” another student said. All in all, the students are grateful and the cooks are doing the best they ever could.

DeleteAfter some terrible news, the Miller family would never be the same. Late September of 2019; Virginia Elder, an 87 year old woman from Oletha, Kansas, gets cancer “...all over her body.” She isn’t very surprised. Knowing she’s old and that it runs in her family, she’s quite happy. “I lived a great life,” she says. Laying in her hospital bed, she waits for family visits and phone calls that just don’t come. “Everyone is looking towards me to go,” Melinda Bock, Virginia’s grand-daughter, says. “The one that lives in Wisconsin.” Why not the family living in Kansas? Melinda and her family are to visit the weekend of October 25.
ReplyDeleteThis is very sad... but I love how you used quotes and a lot of details about the people and where they are from.
DeleteLots of quotes! Good job!
DeleteHave you ever driven a golf cart? Have you ever crashed one? Well, unfortunately a golf cart crash happened on a sunny day in early July. Makayla P and Izzy W were in a golf cart, and Makayla was the one driving. They were at a trailer park in Wisconsin, one that Izzy’s grandparents lived part-time at. As they neared the end of a stretch of road, Makayla started turning to the right. However, the road she planned on turning onto was a dead end. As she attempted to turn the golf cart around, it started rolling into someone’s driveway. “Stop!” Izzy yelled as we got further down the driveway. The garage door was in the direct path of the golf cart. They both started slamming on the brake, but it was too late. The golf cart had rolled into someone’s garage! It left a moderate sized dent in the bottom right corner of the garage door. Makayla jumped out of the golf cart and said, “What should we do?!” Izzy replied with, “Let’s first get the golf cart out of the garage and tell my grandparents.” They left a note on the garage door explaining what happened, and a few hours later they visited the owner of the house. Luckily, they weren’t mad. In the end, they had to pay for a new garage door, but they learned a lesson: don’t let Makayla drive golf carts, and be extra careful when in control of one.
ReplyDeleteThis is very good! I like the details and the end is great!

DeleteWhen the middle school principal came into room 126 at the start of 6th hour, no one expected it to be that banned/challenged books in the state of Wisconsin couldn’t be in Bartels Middle School anymore at a supposed “board” meeting last night. Due to the fact that it sounded real, everyone believed it, and they were shocked. All of a sudden, my teacher started to collect our books. We were about to storm the office, we were so mad. Eventually, we figured out that it was fake, as there was no board meeting last night.

On September 25, at 5:30 pm, an eager young driver named Melissa Dale almost got her and her family into a car accident. Melissa had only been driving for a few weeks and was still driving her mother’s buick. She was driving home from tennis practice and slowed to a stop at difficult turn on highway 33. She was the first car in the line and the only car behind her was an old, beaten down white truck. The driver was a female, and a male, most likely her husband, in the passenger seat. Mellisa’s little brother, Bradley, comments on the story.
ReplyDelete“The driver of the truck seemed like a nice woman and wouldn’t have been a problem if her spouse had not of been there. He was getting agitated seeing as Mellisa had missed a few slight openings in the string of cars on the highway. I could see he was trying to honk the horn, but the woman had realized how old Mellisa was, and was forgiving.”
Seeing this, Melissa was getting nervous and decided to turn during a small opening between cars. Her mother told her to “punch it” a term she had never heard before, and decided to slowly lurch forward. The car behind her was approaching fast and had to slam on the brakes to avoid rear ending Mellisa. Melissa was shaken and scared to drive the following weeks. She has slowly started to drive again since the incident.
On Friday night, 10-11-19, the Poynette Puma football team lost against Lakeside Lutheran. The score ended with 7-35. The crazy thing is their quarterback came into this game straight from a broken fibula. Ouch! Also, this game was packed with intensity. The dark, black sky with bright, friday night lights, had made everybody stand on their toes.
ReplyDeleteAlthough the coaches and fans were hoping for a win, sense they’ve lost the past three weeks, they were still happy to take pictures afterward, for the seniors last home game. Students ran onto the field to congratulate the players on their second to last game. The Poynette Pumas are still looking forward to their next, and final game, when they play against Columbus. What will next week bring? We’ll have to wait and see.
Good job using an action verb
DeleteIt was a crisp cool night on Friday the 12th. There was a big matchup between the Waunakee Warriors and the Portage Warriors. All of the Portage spectators were in awe over the new 1.5 million dollar turf field with a jumbotron. Its was so cold outside, you could see everyone’s breathe. Even a little girl said,”Daddy im gonna get hypothermia, it's so cold outside.” Everyone could tell both of the team’s players were not playing at their full potential. After both teams got all warmed up, they lined up for kickoff. The kicker for Waunakee was not a big guy but he could really boot the ball. So that meant that Portage started with the ball on their own 20 yard-line. The Portage Warriors couldn’t get anything started on offence, they didn’t even get a first down. They were forced to punt the ball. The punt returner called for a fair catch because the warriors started swarming him. Waunakee didn’t waste any time scoring. On their third play the quarterback threw a 58 yard dot to his wide receiver for a touchdown. This continued to happen, Portage would be forced to punt and Waunakee would score. After halftime, the Portage Warriors gave up. In the middle of the fourth quarter a women got up and told her family,” lets go, I don't want to see these players get demolished.” The final score of the game was 58 to 0.

DeleteOne rainy day in September 2019, an 8th grader was playing flag football on the field in Portage Wisconsin next to the middle school. The 8th grader, Carly, was chasing someone who had the football. She says, “I tripped over their foot and went flying through the air. Then, I landed on my ankle, it rolled over and I heard a pop.” She says that she knew right then and there that something was wrong with her ankle. Carly got up, but she couldn’t put any weight on her right ankle. Carly states, “People started running over to see if I was alright.” The gym teacher eventually noticed the crowd of people and came rushing over. The gym teacher asked if Carly was alright and everyone eventually decided that she needed to go to the office. Carly hopped on one foot all the way into the office and got some ice. She went to the doctor several days later and learned that she had a sprained ankle.

DeleteIt was a warm, sunny day in early September, 2013. A young girl and her older sister were playing in their yard with their neighbor Jake. It was a nice, normal day but soon Jake started getting irritated with the girl. She thought they were just playing so she continued messing around and ran into his yard. She hid behind his shed wanting to play hide and seek, which made him even more upset with her. Soon he picked up a big, round, heavy rock and threw it, aiming for her head. When the rock came into contact with her face, it tore open her lip and broke her adult front tooth in half. She screamed as blood started gushing from her mouth and into her hands. Her sister, still in her yard, heard the scream and came into Jakes yard, assuming they were just playing around. When she saw all of the blood, she went to get their parents straight away. They drove to the emergency room, and she had to get 4 stitches and a fake tooth later that day at the dentist. Jake eventually wrote a generic apology note but never stated why he threw a rock at her and got angry for no reason. To this day, 6 years later, she still doesn’t truly know why he did.
ReplyDeleteIt was the sixth hour of a normal school day, 2:00 pm. In eighth grade English teacher Ms. Devries' room, Principal Rueth came into the classroom while she was teaching. He announced that banned books were no longer allowed in the Portage school district, due to parents and teachers deciding this would be best for the students. This was surprising, considering the middle school having just celebrated banned books week. Because of this, Ms. Devries was forced to take away the banned books students had in their possessions, adding to the previously established turmoil among them. Eventually, however, the class was able to figure out that the event was staged by Ms. Devries to assist in teaching that day’s lesson and it was all fiction.
ReplyDeleteOn October 13th, at 3:00 pm the Wisconsin Badger Volleyball team had one of their biggest games all season . This was one of the most important games since they had lost to Minnesota just last season. The Minnesota volleyball team had just lost their best player and setter. So the real question everybody wanted to know was, could the Badger’s win? On October 13th on a chilly fall day hundreds of people went to the Fieldhouse to watch the important game. Everybody was jumping in their seats every point that was scored. The players were running all over the court trying not to let one ball touch the ground. “Point Wisconsin, And there goes another win for the Badgers!,” the loudspeaker blared. The game has seemed as easy the A,B,Cs for the badgers. And there you go the Badger’s have won one of their hardest games for the season, but you just wait there’s more coming from this team.
ReplyDeleteOn a spooky October 10, 2019, at BMS in the 6th-hour English class, as the students were minding their business getting taught the lesson, when the principal, Mr. Krismis into Ms. McFluer’s class to give her a note from the school board. The school board made a decision to take all the ban books from all the shelves in the district. One student said, “Why are you taking our books away?” While some students know it was fake, a lot of them didn’t. Ms. McFluer and Mr. Krismis prank failed because the students that know that it was fake started to spread that it was fake. It was to help with the lesson, more importantly, the learning target,’To write about a real-life drama.
ReplyDeleteOn Monday, October 14th, 2019, two sisters named Emma and Sophie were excessively fighting. They were in a rush, and they were yelling everything they said. For example, Emma screamed, “HURRY UP and PUT THE DOG AWAY!” They seemed stressed out, and in a hurry. They were running back and forth, slamming doors, and verbally punching each other. They were still at their house, but they needed to rush to school. They were going to be late! They quickly jumped into the car, and they started driving as fast as a racecar driver when they were leaving their driveway. Does being stressed make you act angrier? Should it be that way? If you’re stressed, it shouldn’t make you want to do something you’ll regret. Sometimes, everyone should take a moment and breathe. Don’t be harsh and accidentally or purposely hurt someone just because you were stressed. It can feel like the water in your body is being drained out of you, so take a moment and realize what you could do instead. Just because you were mad for a short period of time, it doesn’t have to ruin a nice sunny day.
ReplyDeleteOn a hot summer day in July, a large group of friends consisting of adults and teenagers were playing soccer for what seemed like hours. They played through the light rain that had just fallen just before they started the fifth game of the day. The field was moist, the air was humid, and their hearts were racing. After half an hour of playing, a boy of age eleven or twelve on the losing team was defending with all of his might. With the score being eight to nine, and needing to get to ten to win, the boy powered through. Sore and bruised legs wouldn’t bring him down, not with all the grown-ups watching. As a teenager who seemed to be around the age of sixteen of the opposing team rushing to score the winning goal was stopped by the bruised boy. The bruised boy managed to kick away the ball from the teenager, all of his teammates shouted “ Corre-le Fanco!” The boy listening to his teammates runs at full speed for the ball racing against the teen. While racing, the teen accidentally kicked the boy’s foot, making him trip and fall. The boy fell on his hand at an awkward angle. As soon as he made contact with the ground you could hear the faint sound of a “CRACK”. The boy ended up stretching a nerve in his wrist, forbidding him from playing for the next couple of weeks. The game ended soon after the incident.
ReplyDeleteOn August 3rd, 2019, Samantha invited 3 of her friends to the Rusch pool. Little did she know she would leave that pool injured. The pool had opened to the public, so each girl paid her $2 fee then walked into the changing room. When the girls strolled out of the changing room the smell of chlorine hit them and the echoes of children's laughs reached their ears. For hours the girls raced, swam, and dove until Samantha went to jump off the diving board once again. She hit the water with a splash as droplets of the chlorinated liquid flew. As she resurfaced her friends could tell something had gone wrong. The look on Samantha’s face reflected pure agony. All 3 of the other girls quickly dove into the water and swam to the injured girl. The friends lead Samantha to the pool’s edge where they helped her climb out and head into the changing room with her injured foot. After she had changed into some dry clothes she stumbled to her belongings to call her parents and alert them to her injury. About 30 of talking and waiting at the pool side later, Samantha’s father showed up. Hoisting her over his shoulder they left the building so they could go home and ice her foot before going to the hospital later.
ReplyDeleteOn a wednesday, at the beginning of the 2018 school year, a school named Wayne E. Bartels Middle School was on a mission that not all knew about… Only the ones who planned it would know, but they did it for a reason. To make a change. As the seventh grade students piled into the large, bright gym, they seemed confused. Although they had heard about what they were going to be doing, they weren’t completely sure. They were welcomed by an organization that the school hired who seemed very friendly and there was upbeat music playing. Some enjoyed the enthusiastic visitors and smiled along with them, but others were not amused and wanted to leave. After being introduced to everyone, they were told their first activity. They did many more throughout the day as well, all drifting back to the same topic… Courage. One activity seemed to stick out the most. It was the last one they did of the day. They would all sit around a small bowl of water with little stones by it and the visitors explained what to do. The directions were to go into the middle of the circle and share something about themselves that was personal or that they wanted their classmates to know, and then drop a stone into the water. Some of the things shared really made the kids think about how they treat others and what they had been saying. The whole idea of the stone in the water was the ripple effect. Often when one person does something it’ll cause others do something similar just like how the water rippled. Even though some of the children still wouldn’t be bothered to change or make a change, the retreat opened the eyes of the seventh graders at Bartels Middle School and it made a change.

DeleteOn a day where the setting was the perfect morning for a horror story, an adult female reported suspicious knocking noises coming from the front of her house. At 5:45 am on a rainy morning, at a house that is just outside of Portage, WI a woman called police claiming that there were knocking like noises coming from the front of her house. She claimed to be alone with her teenage niece and younger daughter. She had suspicions that someone was attempting to break into her house. When the police finally arrived they checked everywhere and everything, but nothing was found. After the police left the property a vehicle was heard accelerating down the road near the house. The day after this event the adult male put up cameras and bright lights to be able to see anymore attempted break-ins. Two questions still remain, was it an attempted break-in, a prank, or a catfish scheme? Will the cameras and blinding lights keep any more people away or will someone try and break-in again?
ReplyDeleteAround 10:30 on Tuesday the 15th a teacher, Ms Devries, reacted with an asthma attack from hand sanitizer. A student brought it from home and claimed "the reason I brought it to school is because the sanitizer in the math classroom smells like ham". The student carried the sanitizer to her 2nd and 3rd hour classes. It was passing time for intervention when another student asked if he could take the sanitizer to his intervention, then return it. When the end of intervention came along, many students had the sanitizer on their hands and entered Ms Devries’ classroom. When she felt the attack coming she said "It felt like someone put their hand down my throat and squeezed''. When Ms Devries found out who the hand sanitizer belonged to, she tracked the student down. The student was told more than enough times that she needed to take the sanitizer home, and it shouldn't be seen again.
ReplyDeleteA young boy slipped and fell. On a cold Sunday afternoon Lisa and her two young girls, Alyssa and Asia were headed to J and J Fireball Lanes a bowling alley in Portage WI. When they arrived they entered pushing the doors open, then they went to the counter waiting for their bowling shoes. As they were waiting Alyssa noticed that there was a crazy and loud little kids birthday party she said “It looks like a birthday party.” So Asia looked over to her right and there were kids everywhere, when they got to their bowling lane and they fastened up their laces then the game began. Everything was fun everybody was either winning or losing. But then Asia noticed that a young little boy swung his hand back with the ball ready to throw it, but when he threw it he slipped smackdown on the ground/bowling lane. Asia though he was hurt until he smiled. Then luckily the little boy was safe and happy.
ReplyDeleteOn February 16, 2019 at around 5:00 p.m. a seventh grader named Grace was getting ready for a concert. Her step-dad Drew was taking her to a Pop Evil concert, as a reward for babysitting her younger sister. The concert was being held at the ‘Majestic’ in Madison. Drew was taking her, his friend Wes and Wes’ now ex-girlfriend Carly.
ReplyDeletePop Evil is a band whose general genre is rock, but sub-genre is hard rock, post grunge and alternative metal. The first opening act was a smaller band called Them Evils, like Pop Evil they are a rock band. The second act was a comedian named Don Jamieson who previously hosted a show called “That Metal Show”.
They each played/told some of their most popular songs/skits. For example, Them Evils played ‘Got Me Rockin’ ‘, She Got Nothin’ ‘ and ‘Gets Me High’. Don Jamieson did a skit about Kiefer Sutherland. He also went into a rant about how Maroon 5 shouldn’t play at the halftime show. Also, got talking about bands doing ‘Farewell Tours’. Jamieson also said at the beginning of his act, “If there are any little rockers in the audience, they’re about to grow up real fast.” This was because of how inappropriate the act was.
Grace, Drew, Wes and Carly arrived in Madison at about 7 p.m. Then, they walked to a restaurant to wait for the concert to start. After trying and failing to find a restaurant that didn’t have a long wait. The concert had started at about 8:30, and Drew, Grace, Wes and Carly all got wristbands after walking to the venue and getting their tickets. Grace got a skeleton stamp on both her hands because she was underage.
The rest of the concert was amazing according to Grace, and she stated that she had a lot of fun. She wanted to see them again or just go to another concert. Drew said that maybe he would take her to another concert in the future.
It was a normal class period 3rd hour in Ms. Grassnickles when the eyewash station was set off. An unknown person stepped on the pedal causing chaos. The water shot out of the nozzle like a fighter jet through the air. The water flooded lab tables and the floor along with destroying many ceiling tiles. the office was called immediately and in the meantime students tried to figure out how to turn it off. Teachers rushed in and finally figured out a way to turn it off. The class was relieved. They all stared at each other wondering what do next. The janitor cleaned up the mess on the floor, but is still trying to resolve the ceiling tile issue. Mold will soon cover the ceiling.
ReplyDeleteIt was a late a gloomy Saturday night in a little house just like any other, a group of friends just returned from a late night snacking. They were bored out of their minds, so they decided it would be fun to play a card game. What happened next still rings in the ears of all who heard it. It was close to the end Kylie in the lead, Juliana close behind and Collie not caring one bit. Last card played looks like Kylies going to win… Then out of nowhere Juliana unexpectedly won. She was completely dumb founed, stunned, shocked she couldn’t believe it! It all suddenly changed, it was like a swirling storm just popped in to say hello because Kylie got so mad she shouted at the top of her lungs, “Oh my flibber flabber!”. People are still shook to this day.
