Science Class
On Wednesday, we will begin our Space unit in science. Today, I want you to do a little exploring. The directions for our activity are on the top of the Google Doc linked below. Be sure to save a copy before you get started!
When you are done, post the most interesting thing you learned today in class.
Space K-W-H-L
The Latin name for our galaxy is Via Lactea and no, it has nothing to do with the candy bar.
ReplyDeleteThat is right!
DeleteCool! I never knew that its Latin name was so cool.
DeleteI did not know that
DeleteI learned about a new galaxy called z8_GND_5296, its the most disant from the our galaxy. Also, the universe is expanding so the galaxy turns red from our view and thats called "red shift".
ReplyDeleteI did not know that
DeleteInteresting. Where did you get that information from? Is it from the website Ms. DeVries gave us or did you find it all on your own?
Deletethey pick a 11 year old girl to name the planet, pluto was named after a Disney character
ReplyDeleteCool! I never knew that. What was the little girls name?
DeleteThe most interesting thing I learned is that a mass of a black hole can be up to 10 Billion of our suns. Imagine how big that is!!
ReplyDeleteWow that is a lot!!! Good topic.
DeleteOh My gosh! that's really big!
DeleteI think it's interesting that the rover Curiosity collected a rock sample from Mars.
ReplyDeleteCool topic
DeleteEris has its own moon
ReplyDeletethat's very interesting :)
DeleteThe most interesting thing I read was about the sun and how it gives us energy and light everyday. It is the brightest star in the Galaxy.
ReplyDeleteTrue ....
DeleteI knew that
DeleteThe sun is nearly 27 million degrees at it's core but just about 10 million degrees at it's surface.
ReplyDeleteThe most interesting thing that I learned about was why the milky way was actually called the milky way. But my other one is how many galaxies are there in the universe and there are a lot. So it's kinda a tie for me.
ReplyDeleteI would love if you tell me why the milky way is called the milky way
DeleteThe milky way was called the milky way because the latin name for our galaxy is Via Lactea and it translates to a road of milk and it appears to be a milky patch of the sky that rings the earth. There you go Lacey! :)
DeleteWe sent the rover to mars to see if the ground was good to have water on and to grow food and other stuff.
ReplyDeleteSo we could possibly live on mars? That would be so cool imagine that. I'd love to be there. But if were blue or purple I would never leave.
DeleteThat is true.
DeleteI learned that the first women to ever go into space was Sally Ride. She was awarded the Presidential medal of Freedom on November 20, 2013.
ReplyDeleteThe sun is 27 million degrees at the core but only 10 million degrees at the surface.
ReplyDeleteHow Pluto got its name:
ReplyDeleteIt was suggested by an 11 year old girl from Oxford, England. She thought of it as a Roman god of the underworld, not the Disney Character.
There were three more planets that were found in the habitial zone, that may be a super earth.
ReplyDeletei learned that you can fit over 1000,000 earths in the sun! :D
ReplyDeleteI learned that Sally Ride was the first woman who went into space!
ReplyDeleteHow old was Sally?
Deletea asroid is part of the sun
ReplyDeleteI learned that a comet is made of ice and dust and when it gets to close to the sun it gets a tail.
ReplyDeleteI learned that the first foot on the moon was Neil Armstrong's left foot.
ReplyDeleteI learned that two teams of scientists have found faint signatures of water in the atmospheres of five distant planets.
ReplyDeleteThe coolest thing that i learned is that a comets journey through the solar system is dangerous
ReplyDeleteThats really cool coltan, i learnd that the mars rover has been on mars for almost a decade
Deletethe most interesting thing i learned was that pluto is just a icy body in space that looks like a planet :)
ReplyDeleteI learned that they is a galaxy called the firework galaxy it is about 22 million light years away from Earth.
ReplyDeleteThe rover on mars witch has been roming mars for nearly a decade.

ReplyDeleteI learned that there is a galaxy called firework
ReplyDeletesaturn is not the only plant with rings
ReplyDeleteI learned that the Mars Rover found a U.S penny on the surface of mars.
ReplyDeleteThe most interesting thing that I learned was that space was created by stars that had a massive fire-heat explosion and the fire mixed with gravity and space was made.
ReplyDeleteThe most interesting thing I found was a couple of british scientists dropped a balloon in space. When they got the balloon It didn't collect dust which was unusal. The balloon also collected organisms that were not from Earth.
ReplyDeleteThe Hubble Space telescope took a picture of a irregular galaxy. That has golden stars and blue stars in it!
ReplyDeleteI learned that rovers go to every planet acsept the sun
ReplyDeleteI learned about the black hole.
ReplyDeleteI learned they are trying to find life on mars.
ReplyDeletei learned that there is over a billion stars on space
ReplyDeleteThat they call Earth the "goldilocks planet"
