Homework in schools By Sophia Lovelace
ReplyDeleteProblems
When you first think about homework you think of something that helps students get caught up or finish something. It does but it can also cause a lot of problems. The problems that come with homework can do a lot to someone. The stress that comes with homework, the mental health that can be ruined because of the constant pressure and hours or work with no sleep and if you do get sleep it's little to none. Then most of the time after that you have to get up for school the next day. That can cause a lot of problems not only for the student but also for the people around them. It can cause the student to start lashing out or just not trying. All of this can be caused by just one thing. Homework and yes homework is not the only thing that can cause this but it's a main factor. It's even worse if they are a student athlete having to go to school and sports and to come home to eat, clean up and settle down and then do homework and still get enough sleep.
My point of view
I'm a student athlete and having homework after a day of school and practice can be very hard and tiring. It causes a lot of stress and I sometimes only get a couple hours of sleep because I have to do other things before homework. As a student athlete I find that when I do have practice and homework it's very tiring and I feel really overwhelmed by having to put a lot of pressure on myself to finish everything in a night. When I don't have homework my life is a lot less stressful because I have a lot more time to do other things and I get sleep on those days, but when I have homework it's very stressful and when I need to ask for help it confuses everyone trying to help. I believe that if I and my classmates had less homework it would fix a lot of issues, not all but a lot.
Solutions
Some solutions for the problems caused by a lot of homework are, having days where students can work on that work they need to do. Programs that can help with students and the help they need and when they need the help they can get it when they need to. A place in school where students can go to just work at their own pace and not have so many problems with stress and mental health because of homework problems and how much stuff can happen. Giving more days for work to be done in school and still having homework just not as much finding solutions for students stress and mental health.
Policies
If more schools consider their homework assignment policies there would be less stress in students' lives. Why it matters is because conversations about the value of homework in education have been around for years but students ' mental health Struggles and artificial intelligence have pushed it to the forefront. In 2023 37% of 13 year olds said they had no homework assigned the day before the National Center Of Education Statistics survey. In 2020 that figure was 29% in 2012 it was 21% A school had said “It helps increase the overall social-emotional health of our students because they're not so focused, especially at the elementary level, just on academic” 67% of high school students have said that homework load is a major cause of stress .It increased to 80% among those doing three or more hours of homework daily. All of this has shown that if students get a big amount of homework after school and sports if they have any can cause a lot of stress and problems in families and school and it can mess up sleep schedules.

DeleteThere has been kids all around the world getting in trouble because they are vaping in school. 🤦
ReplyDeleteThe vaping problem at Bms-
The problem with vaping in school is it causes hard breathing, asma., and it can even cause distorted memory, possibly death. These factors especially death don’t help for the school environment and kids health. About 5.9 percent of kids in schools vape, and 68 deaths each year are caused by vaping, not including smoking. This percent might not seem like a lot but it is. At Bms there are school sports that help with the schools overall look and some kids in these sports vape and its been proven that they were fatigued and not on their A game as they normally were. And sometimes they would even get too distracted with their vape and the cost the team a game, and then their team hates them. These little things can ruins someone's life.
The problem with vaping at other schools-
It has the same effects at other schools, kids think they are cool vaping when it is really just making them stupid, angry, and sick. There is no reason to vape, there is no benefits. If you want to feel happy just go for a run it gives the same effect. I mean I don’t really study vaping but on the surface it looks horrible for you and in the long run i've had 2 of my family members die from smoking in general. I just don’t know how someone could be peer pressured or whatever into doing this stupid stuff it’s disgusting to be honest.
My solution for vaping in schools-
For a solution I think vape detectors everywhere will work, checking lockers before the school day start and also checking the students with k9s/metal detectors. These solutions is what I think our schools need to have a successful learning environment.

Problems at BMS. Vaping is a big problem at BMS because lots of kids are doing it and they are getting bathrooms locked down and locker rooms all because people are using them to vape in.
Solutions
Some solutions that BMS could try to help is by putting in vape detectors they have been found to be really accurate so they will only go off if there is actually vape chemical in the air. They can also start a program that can help them because lots of kids vape because they are stressed and also because they can benefit from it. but in the program can make them feel safe to talk about why they do it and they can try to tell the kids that its not worth the damage that you can get and that there are other ways to handle things.. The consequences of kids getting caught with a vape can be fines up to $50 and getting talked to about mental health, and public service. Schools districts have seen positive effects with doing things to help stop vaping.

Vaping has established itself as a way to send harmful chemicals to your lungs.vaping may affect the way cells in the respiratory tract react to germs and may increase the chance of disease and infection from bacteria and viruses, like the virus that causes COVID-19.” from intervuing Sanford Health Dr. Hanson said. “If you think about those microparticles that are being delivered deep into the lungs when you’re vaping, there’s a potential there for that to cause a really severe inflammatory reaction. This can happen with nicotine vaping products but it’s probably even more common with THC vaping products.”
The legal problems of vaping
For minors attempting to purchase or use vaping products, punishments include fines up to $50, education on health risks, and community services. After intervuwind Huffman the pelecofiser at portig midel school and the usistint prinsubul we learned the consucwensis in this school if your vaping you will be sespendid from school and going to cort with a fine of $124 this gose for if you are the one vaping or n ot if you are in poseshin of the vaping devis you will be fined and have a chans to ge the vaper in the rit position.
Solutions
Some of the ways to stop or to cech kids smoking you can set up vaping betekters in the bathrooms and in the hallways. And we are prity she all schools are already doing this but make sher evry body is on the look out for vaping be couse.

DeleteJacob started vaping flavored air in October 2019. He is a honor roll student in 11th grade. Jacob was vaping for 3 months and hitting the vape 4-5 times a day. Jacob’s mom talked to him about quitting because he was an athlete. Jacob had mood swings, panic attacks, getting in trouble in school, and lack of motivation. Jacob had a 3-month vaping period but struggled to get through 2 months getting controlled by his addiction. He struggles getting through games because he started and usually played the whole game, only getting a break at half time. The hard part is now behind him and that he will continue to thrive mentally and physically, and his breathing issues ultimately will go away completely.
ReplyDeleteHealth problems caused by vaping
Lung cancer is caused by volatile organic compounds usually found in vapes, benzene and heavy metals, are known to cause lung cancer. COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) you inhale aerosol instead of smoke. Nicotine is a addictive substance and toxic to developing fetuses which could also cause diseases like lung scarring.
Legal issues cause by vaping
Some people get caught having there friends vapes and get the charge because the cop doesn't know if it's not yours. According to our asistantint principle Mrs. Muth said “students will receive suspension depending on THC or nicotine”. In a interview Officer Hoffman stated “the kid will receive a $124 fine if caught with a vape at school and a court date”.
How to quit vaping
Some people have used these stress reducing daily routines and not smoke. Try to learn about stress reducing activities, like meditation. Create a quit plan how to manage withdrawal symptoms, cravings and slip-ups. Some people get rid of their vapes and they get rid of anything else that may trigger their urge to vape.
Conclusion
Vaping is really bad for kids under the age of 18 because your frontal lobe isn’t fully developed to the age of 26, vaping can lead to lung damage and trouble breathing correctly, and vaping can raise your blood pressure and narrow your arteries. Vaping is also bad for kids because vapes and e-cigarettes contain nicotine. Nicotine is highly addictive because dopamine in the same regions of the brain as other addictive drugs.

DeleteWeight Rooms in School
ReplyDeleteThe Calhoun school has opened a new renovated weight room. A person was interviewed and asked what he thought about the new weight room, “The weight rooms and the equipment will allow the students to prepare their bodies for the sports and athletic events they’re going to participate in.” Is what he said. The expansion will help the students physical health and help them in general.
Problem at BMS
Weight rooms in schools should contain a huge variety of workout tools, a space that can fit a lot of people. The current weight room setup lacks a variety of tools. In addition, the current weight room allows for 7 students to use it at once. This can prevent kids from getting a proper workout, or a workout they may want to do.
The current weight room setup lacks accessibility for all students. Several BMS students were asked about the accessibility of the weight room, saying that it needs to have easier access. One student recommended that the weight room should be open during their recess time or WIN time. This will give students the opportunity to do something different than they usually do during those hours.
Benefits of Having a Weight Room
Having a weight room in a school can be a very important feature to helping the physical health of students. It provides students with a way to work out how they would like to. It helps with a students body health as well. Working out or lifting weights can provide stronger bones, a healthier heart, improved endurance, etc. These benefits can all improve someone’s life.
Solutions Other Schools Have Tried
In cases of remodeling weight rooms, schools expand to a larger space. Schools may even more than double the size of the weight room. Larger weight rooms can fit a bigger number of people. IN addition, it helps students feel more comfortable in the space they are at.
Other schools don’t stop at expanding the size of the room, they expand the amount of tools as well.. New tools and machines give students a good amount of work out opportunities, allowing students to try different ways of strengthening their bodies.
All that weight rooms provide
Adding a better, or new weight room to schools benefits the physical health of students giving them a stronger and healthier body. A remodeled weight room also provides students in sports an advantage at games or athletic events, as well as giving the school an overall better outlook.

ReplyDeleteA school had to pay 50,000$ in bathroom damage because kids were taking almost everything or breaking everything in the bathroom from broken mirrors to attempting to take urinals right off the walls. So the granite school district started using bathrooms that have ceiling to floor doors so it stops many people from taking things from it and since the toilet doors are ceiling to floor wide the doors are made to block people from recording others using the bathrooms. and since there are no doors blocking the entrance to the bathrooms. Teachers can see if anything bad happens in the bathrooms and many more things that can help stop people from making damage to bathrooms and having them locked for repairs. Putting these bathrooms in other schools would stop kids from messing up the bathrooms and breaking things and hurting other people.

DeleteThe thinng abt block hours is if you have 2 at the same time can be long and make other students not very happy so what BMS students thought was minimalizing the blocks or removing it completely because block hours like if it was a class a student didnt like you hadd to be in there for more than one period and especially if you had two back to back block hours like others do so others suggest that block hours should be minimalised to 1 block hour or none at all.

Do you ever wonder why teachers seem so strict? If you don't, your classroom might have a problem. Teachers need to be more strict because students are acting up more and more now.
Students are acting up and teachers won’t do anything about it!
Students at Bartels Middle School seem to not know their place. They are disrespectful to adults, they don't do their work, they disrespect other students, and they think they can do whatever they want.
Students with a better learning environment are more likely to do better on tests because they were able to take notes while the teacher was talking. In many classrooms at Bartels Middle School, teachers have to talk or even yell over students that don't stop talking or making noises.
This problem is happening at other schools too. Ever since 2020, bad behavior in teens has continued to rise. “I think it's because of social media,” One student said, “New parents give their young children iPads instead of parenting, and it gives the kids short attention spans and anger issues.”
Solutions other schools have tried
Schools have established ground rules for classroom interactions and discussions. it helps to promote an inclusive learning environment for all students. Ground rules are especially important when discussing controversial or challenging topics.
The best ways schools have disciplined students is to keep consistency with all punishments and make sure all punishments and rewards are clear. Teachers shouldn’t give the kid attention because that's what they want.
If all else fails, that kid needs to be expelled or suspended at least!

ReplyDeletePART ONE
Most parents and citizens in the united states say it's safe and important to bring a phone to middle schools. But, most parents don't realize the dangers of bringing one. There are various problems with having phones at school and even having one on you can be a huge problem. There are multiple reasons why phones are bad for middle schools and,
Cyberbullying
Everyone has different opinions about phones in schools but whatever side your on its nice to be aware of how its good or how its bad to bring a phone to school.. One huge problem at Bartels Middle School is that cyberbullying can occur. Each year the rate of cyberbullying victims at schools increase higher and higher. In 2010 the percentage of kids getting cyberbullied at middle schools was 7.9%, which that doesn't seem that high but in 2012 the percentage went up to 12%. Now the percentage may be lower at BMS but it wouldn't be surprising if it was almost the same percentage. The percentage 7.9% to 12% is kind of a huge increase.. Kids who get cyberbullied usually report the incident to a trusted adult. Victims of cyberbullying can often feel out of place or depressed. The person whos bullying them may not care at all and their job is to make you feel horrible. That is why it is extremely important to tell a adult when someone is cyber bullying you. This has happened multiple times Bartels Middle School before. When kids do inappropriate things they often don't realize that it's inappropriate in middle school. There have been some cases in other middle schools around the country where kids take videos or photos of people without their permission. Asking someone for permission is important. Students can bully each other with taking photos or videos; or even showing really inappropriate stuff about that kid. It is important for kids to learn how to be responsible and respectful with their devices on them. And this can be either really common or really rare in some middle schools. When cyberbullying occurs rumors can be spread and people can be in fear constantly.
Education or phones?
At multiple middle schools in the united states there can be a ton of problems with phones including inappropriate usage. Some students think it's fine to use their phone during school times. It's in fact not appropriate to use phones during the school day in middle school. Damage can be done with using phones during the day. Decreasing grades is the most common. Most students are severely addicted to their cellular devices, being addicted can decrease your grade and can overall district your mind from the real important things. Some students focus on education and grades while others don't. Teachers have been aware of this issue for awhile and they know why some students are failing. Most people do agree that education is way more important than being on your cell phone.
Threats
The last important problem is threats. On a article it says how students are able to make bomb and shooting threats throughout the school day. It also states that if that happens it requires the police to investigate more and it'll take more time to identify who made the shooting or bomb threat. This just shows that danger can happen with cell phones around at middle schools. Even though high schools have more cell phone problems than middle schools, it is still a big problem at schools. Bomb and shooting threats can be uncommon or even common at middle schools but it is still important to take safety measures. Kids have said they have their phones in case of an emergency but, most people think it's dangerous to carry a phone around and that they should let the teachers handle the situation. Which that is good. Most teachers are in charge of all students and handle the situation safely.
PART 2
ReplyDeleteSolutions for: Cyberbullying
There are some solutions to some of these problems in middle schools across america. When someone is getting cyber bullied they need help. Some schools in US have found a solution to this problem. Some of the schools have put out a “report” survey, these surveys can be helpful. They give the student help and they can report the issue they are dealing with. Counselors can help as well. Counselors can give the student some of the help they need by communicating with them and understanding them. Many schools are doing this and other the years more and more middle schools have followed this path to help get rid cyberbullying
Solutions for: Education or Phones?
When a student is distracted by their phone in schools they can have bad grades. There are solutions to this problem and many schools have come up with ideas. One school bought phone holder pockets, a big pouch hung on their door where students are meant to put their phones there during class. And another school came up with an idea where every student must put their phone is a lock box, and at the end of the day they can retrieve it. This seems like a good idea, and most parents think this idea is useful. While there are many other solutions to this problem, these are the best solutions to help with this problem. Teachers have found that these solutions are great for students at middle schools. They have found these methods effective. Even though most schools probably don't have these methods or supplies they can still use other good solutions and they can enforce their policies and rules better.
Solutions for: Threats
There aren’t much solutions for inappropriate uses for cell phones for example: a student made a threat to the school saying there was a bomb. There isn’t much you can do for this situation. You can’t totally prevent bomb or shooting threats at middle schools. According to an article most threats happen at the beginning of the year. Students who make those threats often feel out of places or angry with someone. If teachers and students treat each other fairly and nicely those threat rate could decrease by a lot! Horrible things can happen because of phones in the United states and a lot of people agree that phones should be banned from most middle schools because of the danger that can be caused by them.
As you can see, phones are a huge problem across America. They can cause a ton of bad problems and it isn't good to have problems. People have researched on this topic and all over the world people have concluded why and how these devices can be bad for schools. There can be negative outcomes and effect

ReplyDelete“The dad tells us his adopted son had three placements prior to being placed with him. "I believe all of that takes a toll on who he is today, that is something none of us can imagine enduring," he said.” “He says, his son started posting disturbing poems, song lyrics, and photos on social media, centered around revenge. Part of his son's therapy was art, and at one point the son drew himself harming another student.” The sheriff and the police couldn't do anything about it until he hurt someone or did something even more crazy. This happens at schools all over which happens at BMS they can’t do anything about behavior problems until it gets to a certain point.
Problems at BMS
At BMS there are a lot of behavioral problems. A problem is the fooling around in hallways. There are 4 minutes to get to class, the bathroom, get a drink, and go to your locker. Students take this time to talk to their friends in between classes, this leads to the problem. Students shove each other which leads to people getting shoved into each other and people getting hurt. Students were messing around in the hallway which led to a teacher getting hurt, and the ambulance and police had to come. The police officer had stated that there is too much horseplay happening. Enforcing rules is also another thing BMS sometimes struggles with. Students can almost get away with a lot one thing is not doing their work. Students sometimes refuse to do their work which can affect other students. Teachers let them not do their work which is understandable, but sometimes when the teachers let them sit there they start to not follow the rules. Those students start to throw things such as paper airplanes, pencils, rubber bands, and hand sanitizer at other people. This can lead to other students following this cycle, but most times the teacher doesn't do anything about this, which disrupts the class. Sometimes teachers will try to ignore this which is also understandable but sometimes it gets to a point. One researcher studied that students who struggle in school tend to act up more and that cycle won’t end until that student leaves the school or graduates, which is the problem at BMS.
Part two
ReplyDeleteProblems at other schools
Behavior problems happen all over but sometimes not as bad. At Randolph middle school there school doesn't have as bad as behavioral problems one big problem is the talking and talking back. One teacher at Randolph stated that students talk back to teachers when the teacher tells them to do something. Students also talk over each other not just teachers. One student could be talking but then another student will talk over them and then they all just start talking all at once. Students talk over the teachers, when the teachers are talking, there are many side conversations that the students have. Students at Randolph also don’t turn in their homework in time which causes their grades to drop, when teachers tell them to turn it in they still don’t. Students also don’t go outside when it is recess time. The try to hide inside when it is time to go outside. They will hide in bathrooms, hallways, and the library just so they don't have to go outside.
Solutions at other schools
Solutions that Randolph and that BMS have, dententions. When Students don't follow the rules at Randolph they have lunch detention. When students misbehave they have to review the expectations which are be respectful, responsible and safe. At BMS they have similar rules like lunch detention and getting scolded. Randolph has more stricter rules than BMS they have much higher expectations for the students. BMS has expectations but not high expectations for students if a student does one thing they get praised, but if a different student does all of their work not much praise. This can make students not want to do their work. A teacher that works at Randolph middle school stated that Randolph had much higher expectations and much more rules than BMS.
There is positive and negative effect of the behavioral problems at school. The positive can be a small thing such as the students who have behavioral problems can get the help they need at the schools. Schools will provide help for students and help them and pull them out of class to help. Schools in the district provide lots of help for those students. But there is also negative things such as students don't get the help they need because they don't qualify for a certain area. This leads to the behavior problems that can put that student under lots of hard times throughout their schooling.

DeleteThis is about kids vaping and how bad it is for you did you know that 2.8 million kids are vaping.
ReplyDeleteVaping is harmful for teens
Here are some of the things that are happen at BMS. There have been many bathrooms closed and the locker rooms have been closed for mouths.
According to CBS New York 2.8 million for middle and high schooler are using vapes. The only reason why the use it because it is fruity flavors according to Dr. Lizzes. It has heavy metals and nicotine and it has the main ingredient of marajjuana.
Possible Solution
BMS should use a part of the money from the referendum to put vape detector in all the bathrooms so we can stop frome teens vaping in the bathroom.
What do teachers have to say about the workforce
ReplyDeleteTodd Felhofer wanted to be a city manager but decided he wanted to be a teacher so four years later he has his education degree from UW Oshkosh and started teaching social studies in the Milwaukee suburbs “Once I got in to education, I knew this is where I needed to be and stay,” Felhofer said. He became am administrator, which is like a city manager, but for schools “To see somebody stay 25, 30, 40 years-it’s not the way it works anymore, People are more willing to pick up and move on. The workforce has changed.” Felhofer says.
How much do they get paid?
The starting teacher salary in wisconsin is an average of of $41,151 while the the national average starting pay is $44,530. Wisconsin is #38 in the nation with starting salary and #26 in the nation teacher salary. The average teacher salary is $62,524 the minimum living wage was $60,892 making it hard for teachers to make ends meet. When teachers have multiple incomes such as a spouse who makes a lot of money it can make life easier but sometimes that's not the case and their spouse isn’t making much more than them, or if they are also a teacher. They may have pets which are expensive or have kids and they want them to have a comfortable life so they spend extra money on them. Depending how many kids or pets a person has can affect how much they have to spend.
Does this impact how many people want to teach?
Teachers average compensation has dropped 19% in the last 14 years. In the 2021-2022 school year a little over 5,000 students finished an educator program, but only about 4,000 students actually became teachers. About 40% of teachers quit in their first six years. Teachers are now making 5% less than 10 years ago. The starting teacher salary in wisconsin is an average of of $41,151 the national average is $44,530.
What can help?
Having a union contract can help increase your pay. A union contract can include a 13% increase to the base and a 2.5% increase at the top. A first-year teacher with a bachelor’s degree will be paid $43,375, up from $38,385. “Many teachers reported needing roommates, taking on multiple jobs, and postponing major life events due to financial constraints,” Lapke said. Teachers joining unions and education associations fighting for better pay can really help teachers.

DeleteBms Bartlett's Middle school choir stage
ReplyDeleteHow stages affect the reputation of the school
How a stage reflects your school's reputation for sports games, performances or concerts from the choir
Problems that students have with the stage
A few problems that students have with the Bartels Middle School choir stage is the lights it can get quite hot on the stage. When performing especially with all grades performing on one stage and you can puke or pass out from the harsh lighting. You can also forget the song you are singing and that’s not so good for any schools reputation. A quote from the Bartels Middle School choir instructor said ‘the stage curtains don't move with a button, so I have to disappear to close the curtains. The instructor also said ‘ We have to share the stage with wrestling and other sports with limited room for performing with all grades. There are kids that you can't see performing because I have to put
students on the stage and not on the risers due to space. I have no choice it is frustrating. Performance and visual appearance of the stage have the same problems with spots on the back wall and having to put kids on the stage when they can’t hear themselves, so it is just really frustrating to have them sing the right notes’.
Problems that instructors might have like Mr. Clemons at Bartels Middle School
Lots of people come to see the BMS concerts and performances a get recorded if you have bad lights in the videos. You can see how hot the students are and how harsh the lights are in video recordings of the BMS choir concerts. You can see the background has white spots on the wall and it might not be a good reputation for this school if people online see BMS’ messy stage.
Solution to fix a messy, unappealing stage
If fixing the stages curtains and the background and getting new less harsh lights doesn’t affect the schools reputation, the worst that could happen was they would have a pretty visual, appealing, and well lite stage to perform on or see at sporting events.
I like how your paper was very informational
DeleteI really like how you entered in information from interviewing Mr.Clemmons and his opinion!

ReplyDeleteIt's never a good idea too vape, but kids have suddenly started to get in on the system. Kids sometimes forget how vaping can affect their health. In fact, 5.9% or 1.63 million students at school this year carry around vapes. Also, this is bad because 87.8% of kids have gotten sick to the exposure to tobacco n their lungs. Here are some of the reasons why kids shouldn’t vape and what they can do to quit.
Lung Trouble
Vaping is already bad enough for adults, but it’s worse for kids. When a kid vapes, they start to cough a lot more when adults first vape because their lungs are more susceptible to diseases in their lungs than adults’. Also, kids need their teeth to be white and clean, but if the vape their teeth will start to rot and turn yellow. And kids can also get a major fever from vaping because vaping can really affect their immune system badly.
Fake Flavors
People try to have kids vape by adding all kinds of flavors that they like. Strawberry, cotton candy, grape, you name it! And if those kids like the flavors that much, they will start to vape constantly and become addicted to vaping. And even worse is that they can convince other kids to vape as well just to taste the flavor of the vape. Also, several gas stations refuse to stop selling vapes because kids won’t stop buying them because of the tasty flavors.
How to Quit
There are some things a kid can to quit vaping. First of all, they can talk to their parents about what will happen if they keep vaping, then they’ll realize that vaping is bad for your health and get rid of it. They can also talk to a teacher or guidance counselor at school about another kid vaping and how they can help them stop. Then they can use that advice to tell the kid what will happen if they keep doing it, and it’ll spread to other kids too.
Conclusion
In conclusion, kids should never vape in school or anywhere because they will stay healthy.

DeleteGranite District spokesperson Andrea Stringham states “You will have complete privacy when your in the bathroom, and then the sinks will be the only shared place for boys and girls.”
ReplyDeleteThe Current Setup Isn’t working
Currently, their is a lot of chaos in the bathrooms at Bartels middle school. People are spanking other students trying to use the bathroom. Going under stalls and taking pictures of others using the bathroom. This freaks kids out, and makes them not want to use the bathroom because they don’t feel safe or comfortable doing it. In fact sexual harassment has been on an upwards climb lately and it doesn’t look like it’s going to slow down. Also physical assault has been on a climb as well, so not only are they scared of being inappropriately touched, but also fought and punched.
More Stories
In a video by Horchata Soto, he talks about how his friends were scared to go to the bathroom because they didn’t want to get hurt. He also talked about his own personal experience in the school bathrooms, stating “After one specific incident, I stopped using the bathroom at school.”. This refers to the time he was using the bathroom and had kids walk in and take pictures of him using the bathroom.
Single Stall Solution
These problems could be an easy fix if schools were willing to spend a little bit of money. Some solutions are open up the hallway for some supervision. This gives teachers some view of what's happening without seeing too much. Using this method, vandalism and bullying has shown to have gone down. Another way is to use floor to ceiling bathroom doors, and make it a 2 in 1 bathroom. This prevents being in the open, people crawling under stalls and taking pictures. This would make kids feel more safe.
School districts implementing single stall bathrooms saw vandalism and bullying go down, and privacy and safety go up.
Bathrooms
ReplyDeleteMany students have complained about the bathrooms and expressed that some of the designs make them feel like they have no privacy. These students have also been wanting to change some features about the bathrooms and I believe that these will help students feel at ease.
In our current bathrooms, the stalls have an extreme distance between the floor and the stall door, the stalls also have a large gap between the door and the sides of the stall. Some students have said that they feel uncomfortable with the gap feeling like they lack privacy, many have also felt irritated with the gaps.
The current bathrooms also have extremely small pipes often causing clogged toilets. Many students have said that they feel uncomfortable or awkward when they find the toilet clogged. There are also many holes in the walls or in the ceiling making the bathroom feel unfinished.
We can fix the stalls by making the door have no gaps between the stall walls and the door, for the ground we make the door about 6 inches off the ground. We should also make the pipes bigger than what they currently are, making the clogging less frequent. We should also fix the holes in the walls or cover them with posters to make them less noticeable.
In the bathrooms the walls are yellow and have yellow tiles. This gives the bathroom a distressing and messy feeling, painting the walls a different color or adding decals of the Portage logo would help by adding a different color. We should also get new mirrors for the bathrooms because most of the mirrors are peeling or are able to detach from the wall, making it dangerous to have in case it breaks or shatters.
Schools who have changed their bathrooms or improved them noticed a positive change in behavior and attitude.
The wrestling room is at bartels middle school is not up to date. It need to be upgraded they are making the wrestler wrestle in such a small and un safe area. That is not up to date and is falling apart day by day.
ReplyDeleteThe wrestling room is way too small. The wrestling team needs more space. There is not enough room for the team to do what they need to do. It seems strange that all the other different teams get so much more space than we do. It is not safe. Its surprising no one has gotten seriously hurt up there. Plus it is so hot in such a confined space.
There has literally been other wrestlers smash right into the metal gate cage the separate the wrestling room from the wight room. they are all forced to practice right next to each other. The mats are falling apart. It is definitely not a safe space. It Makes it seem like the wrestler’s are just pushed aside and are hidden. Makes it seem like wrestling is very unimportant to the school.
The wrestling space needs to be upgraded. It seems like they could really use any space. Since we would be using the wrestling matts anyway. Just has to be somewhere that isn’t so tiny. When they upgrade our school, I really hope that space for the wrestler is included in the planning. They need the same amount of space that they have when they are out wrestling as a team. At least they could have some fans or have better ventilation up there.
In conclusion wrestling in such a small and refined area can result in a increase in injury. And If all else fails we heard wrestling in the hallways is always an opinion .

ReplyDelete“A highschool student paces by the classroom door as the clock ticks down, indicating it is almost time for the next period.” Did you know E-cigarettes also known as vapes, came onto the market in 2007! Vaping in schools is a problem.
ReplyDeleteHealth Issues of vaping
There are many issues of vaping that can harm your brain and your body. If you are vaping at a young age like when you are in school there is a lot of issues that can go wrong when you are older. If you re vaping at a young age you body is not developed yet, so when you vape you harm your body development. Things that can be effect are, brain development, lung failure, increase of disease and infections, etc.
Not only does your brain and lungs get affected by vaping many other things do too. Many people may not know but there are so many harsh ingredients in e-cigarettes. Did you know there are nickel, tin, and led in vapes? There are also ingredients that are cancer causing.
Legal Issues of vaping in school
Vaping in school is a very bad thing. There are many consequences of this that are not fun. Common consequences of vaping in schools are suspensions, fines, and court. If this happens to acquirer you may even have to go to jail, do community time, etc.
You may not know but in the state of wisconsin if you are on you third strike they will; “confiscate the device, notify the guardians, citation, 1-2 days of out of school suspension, and/or a fine.” according to dpi.wi.gov.
Solutions on how to quit vaping
To help you quit you first need to figure out your triggers. Then you need to slower go down and use them less and less. To help you do this you should fill you schedule so that way you are busy and not just sitting at home or at school. If this does not work you can also try patches, gum, lozenges, or non nicotine vapes that way you still get the satisfaction of vaping but without the harsh chemicals.
School Districts around the world have figure out that single stall bathrooms have lowered the cases of kids vaping in school.
Eva Marquez, a student who goes to Greendale High School, stated, “I have a lot of past trauma in my life, Junior year was a lot harder. Rigorous coursework, and there was a lot going on with me. I was spread really thin.” Sadly, approximately 1 in 5 teens experience a mental health issue.
ReplyDeleteWhat we need
Often, a school’s only source of mental health help is a school counselor. School counselors are available to talk about mostly anything: bullying, mental health, family problems, friend problems, and more. What schools don’t provide enough though are mental health programs.
A program like peer-to-peer talking can help students be more open to talking to someone they trust, and someone they know will relate cause they are around the same age. Peer-to-peer provides comfort in a person. When kids can talk to other kids who are dealing with the same situation, they feel more relaxed.
Programs
Sometimes, a program might just be the right thing for someone. The Sources of Strength program is perfect for someone who is dealing with depression, and maybe even suicidal thoughts. The Sources of Strength program works to help kids feel happier. The program increases social support and allows kids to talk to each other in person within the same school district. Research shows that it is more effective when students talk to other students instead of students talking to teachers. The Sources of Strength program in schools allows these students to join and talk to other students to spread suicide awareness.
Resources
Resources are another good thing for students dealing with a mental health illness. Many resources include school counseling, self-care apps, activities, and connections with people. These ways are coping strategies to help students in need of help.
School Counseling
School counseling is an opportunity to open up and share problems you might be dealing with. Counseling is just like therapy, but it has no cost and is easy to access. It’s also a great way to get the weight off your chest.
Self-care apps
Self-care apps are also a great resource. Self-care apps provide goals and mood charts to help you keep track of your health. You are able to check any progress you have, like moods, goals, exercise, and more.
Connection
Connection to people is a great way to help. Just like counseling, you're able to let everything go. But with a connection to loved ones, they’ll know just how to help you. Family plays an important role in mental health. Opening up to your family is a great way to stay connected, so you don’t feel lonely.
School districts that implemented the Sources of Strength program saw a ton of positive effects.

ReplyDeleteEffects of Vaping
Vaping has been marketed as the better alternative to smoking. This isn’t the case. Ryan, an college student started vaping. He didn’t think that it was bad for him. He thought it was better than smoking. He got addicted very fast and started vaping a lot. Ryan stated, “Unlike cigarettes, I could sneakily vape whenever I wanted too.” He started noticing he lunges changing and getting smaller. He thought it was a cold and thought nothing of it. He ended up hospitalized and his breaths per minute tripled than what it should be. Ryan was hospitalized for approximately a month and was on at some points 16 machines to keep him breathing. The doctors tracked this all back to vaping. Vaping can cause bacteria to grow very fast. When you add this to being sick, it can cause different health problems like blood clots.
Health Issues
When people first start vaping just like Ryan; don’t think much of it and feel that it is better than smoking. With vapes becoming popular around 2018, many people are seeing more signs of different effects of vaping. One of the health issues that scientist and doctors are seeing is lung failure and even lungs collapsing.
The reason of lung failure is the diacetyl found in both cigarettes and vapes. Diacetyl inflames your lungs. This is well known as “popcorn lungs” when they get inflamed and cause different holes to appear in your lungs. With all the other different chemicals including diacetyl, in the years 2019 to 2020 there was over 2,800 people that were hospitalized because of their addiction to vaping. Out of those 2,800 people, 68 of them died because of the chemicals in the vapes.
The main chemical that is leading to health problems is the flavors in them. These flavors are made out of diacetyl. This chemicals can lead to cancer. Not only can this chemical be deadly when it is consumed, but it can also harm people in other ways. This is because the packaging of the vapes can get different damages to the packaging due the chemicals in them. When this chemical comes out it can be flammable and even explode causing damage to your vape and its surroundings. This can also happen if it is in your pocket, which may harm you as well.
PART 2
ReplyDeleteConsequences with Vaping
The health concerns aren’t the only negative effects that can happen when you are vaping. If you are under the age of 18 or 21 depending on the state you live in, there can also be consequences that can happen. One of these things are that if you are caught vaping in school, there can be life impacting consequences. You may be suspended or even expelled. This is different in all different school districts around the world. At schools in Texas students have harsh punishments, including expulsion from the school. Then you will be sent to an alternative learning school. There were more than 900 students that were put into the alternative learning school.
Other than getting suspended or expelled, you can also get fined for vaping. Depending on where you live these fines may and will be different. In the state of Wisconsin, you can receive a fine anywhere up to $1,000.
Ways to Help you Quit
Even though vaping was first made to help you quit smoking, it is still a stimulant. It can be even more addicting. People who have tried to quite found it very difficult. They find themself reaching for their vape. One of the ways that people have found success in quitting is by lowering their daily intake. One way that you can achieve this is by seeing how many time you are reaching to your vape and lowering it little by little everyday. To add on to this vapes also come in different levels of nicotine. This mean that you can start by getting vapes with lower nicotine levels until you get to 0 ML. This will lead to you not wanting to do it because there isn’t the stimulant in it.
During the process of quitting. There will be many different problems that you will also have to deal with. One of these are triggers. Different things like people, sounds, or setting may do this. Many of ex-vapers found that quitting gradually is easier than just giving it up to start. They start with a start date and a end start and slow decrease their intake each day.
Zach Arledge a junior in college had a different way of approaching this. He started by find time where he didn’t have to work or go to school. Not that he had this free time if he was really struggling with this he won’t get distracted from work. He started with a paper where he drew 72 squares; this is meant to represent the first 3 day of his journey. During this period he felt very unfocused and was jittering. To help with this he had different items which included, thing to chew on, sugary foods and, shows to distract him. When ever he felt that we would need to vape he would fill that craving with these items.
Even though it might be hard to give up something that you are addicted to the outcomes can be very beneficial and rewarding . If you are still struggling to quit you are able to contact different associations like; SmokefreeTXT, This is Quitting, and My Life My Quit.
I like how many resources you have to help show your solution.
DeleteConsequences of vaping
ReplyDeleteThere are consequences from vaping. There is story about someone who almost died from vaping in lung.org. He ended up in the emergency room he said “you might feel small changes over time but you could easily right it off as a cold”.he got addicted because it was popular among his friends and he wanted to try it. But before long he got addicted..
Health issues body
Lung issues are the biggest consequences of vaping. There are toxic chemicals inside of the vape. There are an increased risk of coughing and weezing. There is also an increase of asthma symptoms and lung function when you use a vape. The vape makes this happen by swelling and irritation in your lungs. It can also cause heart and brain damage nicotine can hurt brain development and raise your blood pressure and smallen arteries. Some of the chemicals in vapes liquid are known to cause cancer.
Legal issues body
Vaping can cause you to get tickets over 100 dollars. The tickets also can cause you to go to court. In schools if you get caught it can make you get suspended and possibly reported to police.
The idea
Most teanagers dont even know hat in there vapes most think its just flavoring some don't know and others think marijuana. Only 13% know nicotine is in it when asked.
A school district in North Dakota recently graduated its first class of seniors who went through most of high school with standards based grading. Instead of letters, their report cards listed the specific skills their teachers expected them to learn in each class, and the progress they made on each one. In other words, rather than receiving a single letter grade for each class, students received a mark for every skill. Another section rated students' work ethic, the non academic items, such as behavior, on-time homework submission, and effort.
ReplyDeleteImpacts of Standards based grading on Students
The goal of standards based grading is to show students and parents with detailed information to show their academic performance. This is something many people think traditional grading cannot do. In an article called, What is Standards-Based Grading, and How Does it Work the superintendent of a one-building district located northwest of Fargo, Cory Stenier said, “Ultimately, what I tell people is, a grade or a report of a score should tell us what they do know, what they don’t know, and then be able to give us a plan to help fill in those gaps.” People may argue that traditional grading doesn’t explain where kids need to grow. But, with clear expectations traditional grading can explain where they need to grow.
Although some grading reforms may benefit students, those that water down expectations ultimately harm the students they are meant to help. People like standard based grading because it's more lenient and they think that strict grading can be harmful, but lenient grading sets lower expectations and causes less learning. In standards based grading extending/mastery is a A or an A+, and no evidence/below proficiency is an F. Although standards based grading makes it easier to pass a course, it makes it much more difficult to get an A or A+.
Impacts of Standards based grading on Parents
In an article called GCSD board votes to replace standards-based grading, they told a story about a parent getting confused by this grading scale. “GCSD parent Karen Posten told board members she has sat with the school administrators and teachers to try to really understand standards-based grading, but still has a difficult time understanding how her achievement-oriented child still received an “F” at the end of the grading period due to the way in which standards-based grading operates.”
In an article called, Parents Oppose Standards Based grading system and parent stated, “My daughter still cannot tell you at Ecker, after a full year of this discussion, how to get a four. She would go for a four. The kids do not understand. I do not understand and I’m open to understanding it.” One main issue for many parents is that when there kids are confused and don’t think they deserve the grade they are receiving; then the parents try to understand and get upset when they get confused.
Why use traditional grading?
The traditional grading systems help parents, colleges, and universities get a sense of how students are doing academically. A news article titled, Who’s the Real Audience for A-F and Numeric Grades said, “About two thirds of district leaders, school leaders, and teachers who responded said that the main advantage of A through F or numeric grades is that “parents understand them because they also received them.” The same article also said “Another 35 percent said that the grades are helpful because, “Colleges understand what they convey about applicants.” Because parents understand traditional grading so easily it is easy for them to teach their children. Traditional grading makes it easier for parents, colleges, and students to understand how they are doing academically.
Although some districts found that standards based grading helped students and parents understand which skills they need to work on, some districts implementing standards based grading saw lots of confusion from parents, students, and even teachers.
It is all in active voice.

DeleteStart Times At School
ReplyDeleteIn a article wkbk, a student of Williamsville named Decklan Coleman said, “That’s why people are late. For that extra sleep.” “Those first and second periods, those are always the hardest two.” This shows that waking up early for school is hard to do and can stunt your learning capabilities. Now imagine you're just waking up, and your school starts at 7:45. But when you woke up you seen it was 7:55. The biggest issue with this is that you are now exhausted, missing school, and late. This means that you could not be learning to your full extent, and you could have to face the problems that come with your sleep deprivation.
Causes and Effects of Sleep Deprivation
According to “Research Gate”, the effects of sleep deprivation, and early start times are physical, mental, and academic impairments. The effects of sleep deprivation in teens also direct to chronic health issues such as obesity, metabolic dysfunction, and increased cardiovascular morbidity. In 2009-2021 the percentage of teens not getting enough sleep went up by 8 percent. This is due to the earlier start times having students wake up very early, and shortening their ability to get enough sleep to function correspondingly.
What Can Happen if Schools implement Later Start Times
That is why later start times in schools would be highly beneficial. According to U.S. News, 4 benefits of later start times include: improved academic performance, less tardiness, reduced risk of injuries/car accidents, and better mental and physical health. School districts in california implemented that high schools would start no earlier than 8:30, and no middle school would start earlier than 8:00. This shows that they saw there was a problem with early start times. And fixed it for the students well-being

ReplyDeleteMultiple fifth grade students at Lynn Public Schools rushed to the hospital after recongizing sever signs of dehydration right before a track meet. Many students fainted and were unable to compete in the competition due to dehydration. The community fire chief made a announcment to the community saying that people overall need to drink more water. This is how important it is to make sure there is a good source of water for your students. Almost 20% of all schools have a good source of water for students. If you want students to stay healthy, and hydrated at schools, consider adding more resources of water for students.
What do schools water fountain situations look like?
The current Bartels middle school water fountain situation is not ideal for the students and teachers here. To start there used to be 3 water fountains that filled up water bottles. Unfortunately, the one that everyone used was broken last year. This makes it hard for many students to get water and fill up water bottles because the other two fountains that fill up water bottles are in inconvenient places in the school like places where there are no classrooms or in small corners of the school. On top of that, student are not allowed to leave the room to get water. This is not good for the students learning or their health. Without water, it will be harder for the students to focus on what is going on in class. Not only that, but if students don’t have water, the students health will be severely affected. So, students at bartles should be allowed to leave the room once per class to get water. The students at Bartels are also worried that the water that they are drinking is not clean because each of the water fountains around the school has a different temperature of water. This may be a cause of students not wanting to drink the water from the school. Many students are also doubting the cleanliness of of the outside of the water fountains, which is also something that may stop the students from wanting to drink from the fountain.
PART 2
ReplyDeleteWhat does dehydration look like in students?
A major issue with students not having good access to water is their health. For example, if students don’t have enough water, it will affect their learning in ways like it hurting their focus, making their attention span shorter, and even making them forget what they learned. All those effects will lead to bad grades and not enough motivation to fix those bad grades. Not only are students education effected, their health is majorly at risk. For example, students will get frequent headaches and it will affect how they are learning, and how they feel. For example if a student doesn’t have enough water, they can experience dizziness, dry mouth, fatigue, and muscle cramps. It can even get so bad as to where people need to be hospitalized like if you are experiencing confusion, abdominal pain, or lethargy. Frank Rigas states “ Seventy-five percent of school-aged children in the United States do not consume the recommended daily allowances for water, and bottle fillers can encourage water consumption by providing easy access to drinking water,” This means that if school included more water bottle fillers into their school hallways, students could meet the recommended amount of water to drink in a day.
How to fix dehydration in schools.
If we want to fix this problem of dehydration in schools, we need to fix/upgrade a few things. To start, many students believe that it is crucial to upgrade the water fountains through the school. Weather this means upgrading every water fountain in the school, or just moving around a few things, the students here believe that they would be able to be more hydrated if they had a accessible place to fill up their water bottles. If Bartels made 1 water bottle filler and 1 normal water fountain in each hallway, students would have good access to water and would stay more hydrated than they are right now. Another big aspect of this, is letting students out when they need a drink. While I do think that it is a bit unreasonable to let students out too frequently, I do think that they could get let out 1 time per class period to get a drink of water. This would up the chances of
students being hydrated and help keep students focused on class. In order for students to even be motivated to drink this water, they need to be assured that the water they are drinking is clean. That means making sure that not only the water they are drinking is clean, but also the surface they are drinking out of, specifically, where the water is spouted out of. Things you could do to assure that the surface of the water fountain is clean, it would get cleaned at the end of everyday. These are just a few things that students at Bartels think would help them stay hydrated.
School districts implementing water fountains with water bottle fillers saw students increase in grades, health, focus, and most of all, hydration.
Vaping was introduced to stop smoking but it led to people getting more addicted and damaging themselves like what happened to Lilly in her part of her life “ Three years into this hefty addiction, I noticed physical signs that my body was struggling. I was experiencing constant fatigue, acne, severe stomach issues, hair loss, and dull skin. “These are only some words that Lily said and what happened to her, this just shows how addictive and dangerous vapes are because they can cause bad stuff to your body and immune system/defense system for your body you can even feel like if you have a flu with feeling you body much weaker and some other stuff, and vaping cost her 3,000 dollars which is a waste of money every single month this just shows that vaping can get you in all types of bad stuff because of vaping.
ReplyDeleteWhat can happen if you vape at a young age and for a while
Vaping is so bad that it can even cause you to lose brain cells, can even lead to heart failure if you keep vaping for a while, and can give you a tumor in the brain and memory loss, including tumors in the lounge And even so if you don't vape a lot, Nicotine is a dangerous and highly addictive chemical. It can cause an increase in blood pressure, heart rate, blood flow to the heart,t and a narrowing of the arteries (blood vessels). Nicotine may also contribute to the hardening of the arterial walls, which in turn, may lead to a heart attack leading to death at a young age.
Problems with vapes in general
There is even more dangerous things about vapes, firstly they can explode on you because of a battery and can cause you to break a bone, burns, and even blindness, and if you don't die of the major tumor that you have in your lungs the vape can explode and can sometimes even cause death, and if you close to gasoline or any flammable objects the explosion can be much worse and can result in not just you dying but multiple
What can happen if you are found vaping inside of a school district
Vaping in school it can lead to a 125$ fine and you will get the vape taken away and you will go into court, and scenario whether you were just holding it or even found in a backpack that isn't even yours you can still get in trouble and still go to court and get a fine if you are found holding/having/puffing a vape.
How many vapes are thrown away daily and how it shows how addictive they are
And nearly 714,285 vapes are thrown away each day this just shows how addictive and how many people vape, and it was shown that in 2024 they made a test on how many kids vape, and the response was shown statistically by an astonishing 1,63 million kids vape every single day or so and this just also shows how vapes can be addictive by adults and kids.
How to stop vaping
You can stop vaping by getting a new hobby or even see how much time you can pass without a vape, try passing at least 1 day and see how you feel, and if you feel better try going for a morning jog like Lily did she stopped vaping for a single day and stopped vaping for the rest of her life and even became an athlete so this just shows how one single day can change your addiction for the rest of your life
And so vaping as a kid/young adult is bad because it can cause you to have lung problems at such a young age and be very addictive to the drug nicotine ( Might give you a heart attack as well ).
And so vaping as a kid/young adult is bad because it can cause you to have lung problems at such a young age and be very addictive to the drug nicotine ( Might give you a heart attack as well ).
Teachers in a school named pullman put a ton of work into what their doing, and do it for the kids. They are great teachers and role models for them but still aren't getting paid enough to live comfortably.. One teacher says ¨i'm living paycheck to paycheck. I had to take a loan out for the summer.¨ The lady who said this was making roughly $20 an hour. Thats unnecessary low for what teachers have to put up with. We should appreciate them a lot because they are quite litteratly shaping the next generation for us.
ReplyDeleteTeachers getting paid to little
More teachers from pullman schools came out and said that after their salaries got adjusted due to inflation, they were making less than one percent more. That's a mere little bit of money. A average head start teacher make from $41,389 to $41691 per year; in today's world that's just getting by if you have a house and a family. They wanted their salary to be increased to almost $60,000The $60000 sounds like a lot but its pretty reasonable for the whole year.
Shortage of teachers
A teacher in washington explains that he wouldn't be able to be a teacher if his wife didn't have a good job and make more money than him. That shows how there is definitely more people like him that want to be a teacher but can't because of the amount of money the job provides.Because of people having the same feelings as him there is a lack or shortages of teachers at schools. You might be thinking that they could just hire subs but subs also cost money and they get paid more than the teachers. Subs from the Bridgeport were getting paid almost $150 a day. Which is insanity. Now you can see why theres a shortages of teachers.
How to solve it
A school was doing a poll on paying their teachers more and 73% says yes. There was 24% of a community that supported the idea of increasing taxes to fund the school districts. That's a way that they could increases teachers pay and make sure their getting paid what their job is worth. If the whole community pitched in then it wouldnt be a huge raise in taxes and everything would be great.
School districts implementing better pay for teachers saw people wanting to teach there and better teaching.
According to the article Teenager picked on by teachers before death a 14-year-old girl, took her own life, as she said she was “picked on by her teachers” at school. Megan's older sister Molly, referenced one particular teacher, who at the time was responsible for behavioral management and she said “she was always getting shouted at by him”. It's alleged that Megan was also bullied on social media sites. Her mom was ‘not told about outbursts’ before her daughter’s death. Her father wants cyber-bullying law after her death. According to a study, one in six teens experience cyberbullying. Molly said that she was aware that Megan was receiving unkind messages online, but she kept things private. A former assistant head teacher, who oversaw well-being at the time, said that there were anti-bullying systems in place. Emma Kedward said there were practices in place like a “bully button” online and assemblies on anti-bullying.
ReplyDeleteBullying in schools
Bullying is most common in kids who are “different” from other kids. Bullying can have a lot of terrible outcomes such as bad mental and physical health, substance use, bad learning experiences, violence, and suicide. Cyberbullying is also another way kids are getting bullied. Cyberbullying is when kids are being bullied online on a game or over a message. Kids who are LGBTQ, or have a disability are most likely to be bullied. But it's not just LGBTQ kids that are getting bullied, it can be anyone. Parents can also be why kids are bullied. Kids may not be getting proper love, or care at their house. So they take things like their anger, or sadness and bully it onto other kids.
KiVa program
The Kiva program aims to help stop bullying. It mainly focuses on the behavior of all children. Schools doing the KiVa program have said bullying has decreased by a lot, than schools who don’t do the program. People being bullied have a higher risk of having depression, and anxiety. They also have a risk of bad mental health. The KiVa program is trying to lower that risk.
School policies and families
Schools are required to have an anti-bullying policy. Which means they have strict rules on bullying other kids. They’re also required to have a website kids can use to report any bullying. Like if a kid gets bullied, then they can use the website to tell an adult what happened confidentially. Parents are required to know about this policy. So if their kids tell their parents they are getting bullied, then parents know the policies for bullying.
School districts implementing the KIVa program or anti-bullying policies saw less bullying.
I like how in detail you went and how it can affect others!
DeleteAdolescent Mental Health In Schools
ReplyDelete“We are also facing this kind of crisis where we don’t have enough teachers in schools to really work with students,” “but then we also just don’t have enough mental health professionals, either. Everyone is just really stretched thin.” Amir Gilmore stated.
Schools need to provide more mental health resources for students. In many middle schools there are little to no resources available for students mental health. Many students will more than likely struggle with mental health eventually in their academic career but at most schools there is not enough teaching for students and teachers about how to help others with mental health and how to recognise the signs of mental health issues.
Students who are dealing with mental health issues might not know who they can go to for help and how to get it, and that’s when the problem about not enough teaching for students and teachers arises. Students might not want to show others how much stress and pressure they are undergoing and that can have a negative effect on that students mental health because they are bottling up their emotions and also dealing with the stress and pressure.
There are many things that the schools can do to improve their mental health system for their students such as providing more teaching for the teachers and students.
It may be hard to recognise signs in students because one student may not show signs as clear as another students. All students deal with their emotions and struggles differently and so that makes recognising signs even more difficult.
Teen mental health has worsened since the start of the Covid-19 Pandemic. In 2021, 44 percent of high school students said they “persistently felt sad or hopeless,” up from 36.7 percent in 2019, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The percentage of students who made a suicide plan or died by suicide also rose, especially among L.G.B.T.Q.I.A+ teens. According to a 2022 survey from the institute of Education Scienses, 69 percent of public schools reported an increase in students seeking mental health services that year, but 43 percent of schools “moderatley agreed” that they could “effectively provide mental health service to all students in need.” Only 13 percent “strongly agreed”
“School districts that implemented more programs and resources such as the social emotional learning project saw improvements on their students overall well being and a positive change in their students with the newly implemented learning project to help their students mental health.
