  1. All humans need to try and make the best out of everything in life. We all want to see the good in life whether it be bad or good. In the book Ten Beautiful Things, by Molly Beth Griffin, the readers see that not everyone can make the best out of everything. Lily doesn’t really want to be in the car with Gram and she doesn't want to look for Beautiful things. But Gram eventually cheers up Lily enough to play the game, Lily finally knows how to see or make the best out of everything. In Ten Beautiful Things, Molly Beth Griffin uses; Dialogue, Illustrations, and Symbolism, all to show the reader to Try and make the best out of everything.

The first craft move that the author used to create the sense that is important to try to see and make the best out of everything was Dialogue. We first see this when Lily and Gram say “Let’s try to find ten beautiful things along the way” Gram Said. “Lily turned her eyes to the window “There’s nothing beautiful here,” she said. Lily doesn't really realize that beautiful things can be in front of her when she looks for them. Gram tries to teach Lily to see beautiful things, but Lily doesn't want to. Clearly the use of Dialogue showed how important it is to see and make the best out of everything.

Another craft move that Molly Beth Griffin used was the Illustrations. The readers first see this when they see the first out of the tenth beautiful thing in the book. The sunrise was the first thing that Lily saw when she was playing Gram’s game. Another really good Illustration that is seen is, when the rainstorm rolls around. Molly Beth Griffin makes it seem so real like there is actually a storm. As a result, the Illustrations in the book did a lot to try to make the best out of everything.

A final way that the effect of trying to make the best out of everything was created through the use of Symbolism. At the end of the story, the readers are left to wonder if Gram and Lily ever play this game again. The author shows us this when Gram tries to cheer up Lily in the car by Playing the Ten beautiful Things game. I think that Gram is a symbol of hope or joy to show Lily that everything is not that bad even if you try to find the Beautiful things in life. Although it could be said that the effect of Ten Beautiful Things is Joy. This fails to take into account the fact that the effect is to make the best out of everything. Through the use of this Author's craft move, the author clearly shows us that it is important to try and make the best out of everything no matter what.

Molly Beth Griffin, author of Ten Beautiful Things, created the overall effect of Trying to make the best out of everything using Dialogue, Illustrations, and Symbolism. First, Griffin showed Trying to make the best out of everything with Dialogue, this craft move was used to help explain how Lily felt playing the Beautiful Things game. Next, the craft move Illustrations was used. This craft move was used to help the characters notice the Beautiful things around them. For example the sunrise was their first beautiful thing that they noticed. Finally, Griffin employed Symbolism. Gram was a symbol of hope or joy because she brought light into Lily’s world by playing the game. Griffin successfully used Dialogue, Illustrations, and Symbolism to make the reader feel that it was important to try and make the best out of everything.

  2. Most people today don’t take the time to notice how beautiful life is; They never take the time to appreciate themselves. The book “noticing”, by Kobi Yamada, is about a girl who finds a painter in the forest. The painter shows her the wonders of life and how beautiful it is. In the book, the author used dialogue, descriptions, and illustrations to show the reader that they should notice both the beauty of their surroundings and themselves.

The first way the author used to show the overall effect was dialogue. In the book it said this, “Take this mountain for instance.’ She gestured to the horizon. ‘A climber might see a great challenge, a scientist might see the movement of an ancient glacier, and someone else might notice the cool breeze traveling from its snowy peaks. Though we all may look at the same thing, we don’t always see it in the same way.” The author used this quote to show that even if we look at something differently, we can all appreciate its beauty. While the girl is with the painter, the painter tells her about the wonders of the world around her. She also explains how beautiful and unique she and the people around her are. We can see that the author is trying to say that you should appreciate life. Using all of this we can now see how the author used dialogue to show the overall effect.

The second way the author showed the overall effect was inner thoughts. While the painter is talking to the girl she asks what the girl notices in herself. The girl just sees an ordinary, bland, uninteresting girl, but the painter sees an amazing and unique person full of personality. This shows that we should be happy for ourselves because there’s no one else like us. At the end the girl hopes to see the painter again and thank her. We can see that the girl appreciates all the painter has done for her. Now we know how the author used inner thoughts to convey the overall effect.
The final way the author used to convey the overall effect is illustrations. In a book, the illustrations play a key role, that is, to convey a message or set a mood. In this book the illustrator used illustrations to convey a sense of wonder, from bright colors to beautiful landscapes. We can see this when the painter is explaining how people view things differently, and when the painter is exclaiming that the girl is beautiful and unique. Another idea it conveyed is that the girl didn’t notice as much as the painter. When the painter askes the girl to look at the clouds, all she can see is clouds, but when the painter looks at the clouds, she sees horses, whales, and castles. We can use this to infer that we need to take in and enjoy our surroundings.

Using what we now know, we can see how the author used dialogue, descriptions, and illustrations to convey the theme of noticing the beauty of your surroundings and yourself.

  3. Surely, everyone has experienced a strong love for someone. No matter if it was a friendly love, or even a romantic love. Although this is a great feeling to have for someone, it can get you into trouble. In “The Great Gatsby,” by F. Scott Fitzgerald, one of the characters, Jay Gatsby, is a very wealthy man who has made it his life’s mission to find the woman that he loves the most, Daisy. The overall effect starts when the reader learns that Gatsby and Daisy had met years back, and they had both fallen in love. Unfortunately, Daisy ended up marrying and having a child with another man, Tom Buchanan. Throughout the story, we learn about Gatsby’s deep love and motivation to be with Daisy, but we also discovered that Daisy doesn't share the same type of feelings. In “The Great Gatsby,” Fitzgerald uses a couple main craft moves to show the reader Gatsby’s motivation: dialogue, character actions, and symbolism.

Dialogue played a big part in showing the overall effect. For example, on page 152, Gatsby states, “‘I don’t think she ever loved him.’” We can see that he is trying to convince himself that Daisy was never in love with Tom although she says differently. This is important because it shows the reader that Gatsby refuses to give up so easily. Earlier in the story, Gatsby was talking to Nick, the main character, about how Mrs. Wilson had died. Mrs. Wilson being the woman who Daisy’s husband was having an affair with. Gatsby then continues to tell him that he is willing to take full responsibility for Mrs. Wilson’s death, even though it was Daisy who had murdered her. Although some may believe that the effect of “The Great Gatsby,” is to build a mood of romance, this would be false. That is because it doesn’t take into account the fact that Daisy had never actually loved Gatsby back.

Another author’s craft move used in the story was the character's actions. The night of Mrs. Wilson’s death, Gatsby stayed at Daisy’s house because he wanted to make sure that she was all right. The text states, “So I walked away and left him standing there in the moonlight-watching over nothing.” This is when Nick was walking back home after talking to Gatsby. Gatsby had refused to leave until he knew that Daisy was safe. Only someone who was absolutely motivated to be with another would do this. Not too long after Gatsby was found dead. This is because Wilson, Mrs. Wilson’s husband, had shot him. Wilson believed that Gatsby was the one to murder his wife and he was so upset that he ended up taking not only Gatsby’s life, but also his own. Once again, this is a very strong event to show Gatsby’s motivation to be with Daisy. He haden given up his life of wealth and fame just to be with a woman that didn’t fully love him back.

Fitzgerald also uses symbolism to give the overall effect of the story. There was a green light at the end of Daisy’s dock that was repeatedly brung up. At the end of the story, the author briefly explains this symbol. It states, “He had come a long way to this blue lawn, and his dream must have seemed so close that he could hardly fail to grasp it.” This shows the reader that the green light symbolizes Gatsby’s will to be with Daisy and the years that he spent patiently waiting for the right moment.

Throughout the book, Fitzgerald showed the reader how Gatsby’s motivation ended up hurting him not only while he was living, but also in his afterlife. We saw that Gatsby showed his longing for Daisy through his words and actions. The reader also understands this from the symbolism that was used. All of these craft moves came together to create the overall effect of showing Gatsby’s motivation.

  4. Part 1.

In life, everyone faces challenges and goes through rough patches. Often we find ourselves looking for someone to lean onto and help us through these difficult times. In “Little Women”, by Louisa May Alcott, the main characters, the March sisters, go through the challenges and struggles of life. Through their sister getting sick, their father being off fighting in the war, and their prideful aunt, the sisters make it through by sticking together and supporting each other. In “Little Women”, Louisa May Alcott uses multiple plot lines, revealing actions, and dialogue to show how supporting and sticking with family can help one get through hard times.

The author displays multiple plot lines to demonstrate the effect of the story. One of the main plot lines of the book is when Beth gets scarlet fever. When this happens, Amy is forced to be sent away, and Jo and Meg are left to take care of her. Laurie comes as well. “As the tears streamed fast down poor Jo’s cheeks, she stretched out her hand in a helpless sort of way, as if groping in the dark and Laurie took it in his, whispering as well as he could with a lump in his throat, “I’m here. Hold onto me Jo, dear!”” When Jo needs support through this hardship, Laurie offers that for Jo without a thought. Jo and Laurie are like brother and sister, and they lean on each other to pass through the time of sickness. For Beth, who is the one battling the sickness, she is able to fight through with thoughts and the support of her family. “And in her quiet hours she was full of anxiety about Jo. She sent loving messages to Amy, bade them to tell her mother that she would write soon, and often begged for pencil and paper to try to say a word, that Father might not think she neglected him.” Even while she was sick and deadly ill, she still only thought of her family and how they could help her. Her thinking of her family helped her push through the fever. Another plot line that shows this, is when the March family finds out Mr. March is very ill in Washington. “How still the room was as they listened breathlessly, how strangely the day darkened outside, and how suddenly the whole world seemed to change, as the girls gathered about their mother, feeling as if all the happiness and support of their lives was about to be taken from them.” Even as they begin to find out about this tragedy, they gather around their mother. They are able to understand the situation at hand because of their mother staying strong; Her being there to support them. Along with other plotlines the author alternates between the sisters and Laurie, throughout the book the plotlines always meet with the March family coming together to confide, cry, and congregate together to push through hard times.

  5. Part 2.

The author also uses the characters actions to show the effect of the book. Even in the very beginning of the book, we see all the sisters gathered together. “”We’ve got Father and Mother, and each other.”” Beth says this on the very first page, as all the girls sit together around the fire. They choose to sit around the fire. They could be crying, writing, or being alone, but they’re together. While their father is off at war, they cope and get through by being together. This being the very first page and one of the very first sentences spoken, we are able to understand how this will be important throughout the book. When Amy falls in the pond, Jo helps her out, despite being angry with her for burning her book. ““Are you sure she is safe?” whispered Jo, looking remorsefully at the golden head, which might have been swept away from her sight forever under the treacherous ice.” Although Amy and Jo are not the closest of the sisters, Jo is still afraid and caring of her sister. When the family finds out Mr. March is very ill, they all go into shock, but Jo being the most impulsive of the sisters, does something to support her family. ““Well, I was wild to do something for Father,” replied Jo, as they gathered about the table, for healthy young people can eat even in the midst of trouble. “I hate to borrow as much as Mother does, and I knew Aunt March would croak, she always does, if you ask for a ninepence. Meg gave all her quarterly salary toward the rent, and I only got some clothes with mine, so I felt wicked, and was hound to have some money, so I sold the nose off my face to get it.”” This sentence not only shows how Jo is willing to give up something to support her family through hard times, but how the other members of the March family do as well. Part of having a family that supports you, is supporting your family. Jo was anxious to do something to support her family, so she cut off her hair, her one “prized possession”. Her hair is one of the few things that holds vanity and she chopped it off without a second thought for her family. We hear how Meg gives her salary and even Aunt March lets the family borrow money. Throughout the book we see many instances where the girls' actions show how they use each other and each others talents to get through the hardest parts of their lives. This demonstrates to the reader that they should do the same.

  6. The effect of the book is also demonstrated through the dialogue of the characters. When Laurie is talking to Jo about Meg and Mr. Brooke, we see how Jo doesn’t want to lose Meg. ““At the idea of anybody coming to take Meg away? No thank you.””. Meg being the oldest sister is one of the most caring and supportive. She demonstrates better listening and understanding skills than almost any other character, because of her maturity. Because of this, Jo has been able to lean on her and Meg on Jo. When Jo finds out that Meg might be in love with Mr. Brooke or John, Jo feels as though she would lose Meg. For Jo, losing Meg would mean losing a sister. That along with the fact Beth is only barely in recovery, her father is still sick, and Marmee is out in Washington, Jo has little family to be able to lean on in this time besides Amy and Laurie. When Jo goes to get her hair chopped off, at first the man refuses her as her hair color is “not in style” but when his wife hears her story of her family, she agrees. “”I’d do as much for Jimmy any day if I had a spire of hair worth selling.” (The woman said). “Who was Jimmy?” asked Amy, who liked to have things explained as they went along. “Her son, she said, who was in the army. How friendly such things make strangers feel, don’t they?”” Even in families that are not the main Marches, we see the effect of how supporting your family can help you through hard times. This woman sees herself in Jo, sees her as family, possibly even sees her son, and because of this she supports her.

Louisa May Alcott, author of Little Women, created the overall effect of supporting family and family helping you through hard times using multiple plot lines, revealing actions, and dialogue. First Alcott showed supporting family with multiple plot lines like Beth falling ill and Mr. March being off at war. She gave each sister a corresponding plot line. Next, the craft move of revealing actions was used to show how the sisters support each other and lean on each other through hard times. This is shown when events like Jo helping Amy out of the pond and when Jo cuts off her hair for her family. Finally Alcott employed dialogue to show the effect to the reader with dialogue pieces like when Jo finds out John likes Meg and when Jo chops her hair off. The author used many different craft techniques to show the author the effect of supporting family and leaning on family through hard times.

High ranking government officials can make a lot of decisions about what is right and wrong for a country or certain area. When humans have a sense of power they’re also susceptible to being corrupted and being against what is right. The classic fable “Animal Farm” by George Orwell is about mistreated animals taking over their farm from the humans. The pigs are the leader and two campaigns are created: Team Snowball and Team Napoleon. Snowball is driven into exile one day and all animals but the pigs are made to work hard on the farm for promises of peace in retirement. The pigs start changing the main rules that were created after rebelling the humans and by the end of the story are seen as indistinguishable from the people that ruled the farm years ago. The story is an allegory to the Russian Revolution. Using symbolism of the different characters the book gives the claim of power corrupting individuals.

Before the pigs were ever in charge it was Mr. Jones who ran the Manor Farm. Mr. Jones was the one with his team of men who lived in the farmhouse and ruled over the animals in the barn. They then were overthrown when the animals decided to fight back when they weren’t fed one day. In the book it states that, “With one accord, though nothing of the kind had been planned beforehand, they flung themselves upon their tormentors.” The Russian Revolution began when Russia abolished the monarchy type of government they had. The monarch stepped down and aristocrats and capitalists led the new government. Mr. Jones represents the monarchy in the Russian Empire. He was the one with power over everything, but then was made to leave.

When the pigs do take over the farm they start with two leaders. One was named Snowball and the other was Napoleon. The two would never agree with each other. Napoleon then one day scared Snowball away with his group of trained dogs and became the leader of everyone. The two main groups of government during the Russian Revolution were the Russian Provisional Government and the Soviets. They were at odds with each other until a far-left party called the Bolsheviks overthrew the Provisional Government and then joined the Soviet’s cause. The parallel here is that Snowball is the Provisional Government while Napoleon is the Soviets. The dogs are the Bolsheviks that drove Snowball to leave the farm.

Everyone in life needs to realize that their dreams aren’t always going to come true. If someone hasn’t realized this they are probably living in a fantasy world right now but later there walls will come crashing down and they won’t even know what hit them. In, “Of Mice and Men,” by John Steinbeck, the character face some struggles as they are trying to live life always believing that they are going to live on this dream farm. On day, all of this changes as they see for the first time that they aren’t going to get to live there dream. In, “Of Mice and Men,” John uses dialogue, character actions, and symbolism to show that your dreams aren’t always going to come true.
One of the most important author’s craft techniques is dialogue. It really shows how the characters talk and with the tone they talk in. The author of Of Mice and Men used dialogue a lot in this story to support the claim as well. When they were in the bunkhouse, Lennie really wanted to be reminded about what their dream farm. After George was done telling about the farm they heard Old Candy move; he said, “S’pose I went in with you guys. Tha’s three hundred an’ fifty bucks I’d put in.” They thought about it and that’s when the dream really become something they could look forward to. That’s where they went wrong, in all of the other towns they have been in, they were still looking for somewhere to start there dream. It was so close yet so far away. In everyone of the other towns, Lennie was bound to do something wrong and they would have to move because it was only a matter of time. Clearly, they didn’t think it through all the way because something was still bound to happen.
A craft technique that was also used in the story was character actions. Each character used had there own actions that made them different but also we could see how they affected the story. In the story, Lennie had somewhat of a reputation to cause trouble but only in a sense of it was all he knew. “She struggled violently under his hands. Her feet battered on the hay and withered to be free; and under Lennie’s hand came a muffled screaming.” Lennie killed Curley's wife. He did it because it was the only thing he knew that could keep her and her hair there to pet. After doing so, he realized it was wrong but this wasn’t the first time it happened. As a result of this, “The hand shook violently, but his face set and hand steadied. He pulled the trigger.” Lennie was now dead. As the cause of Lennie’s actions, he was now dead. If you read this book, you probably would have guessed something like this was bound to happen because of George and Lennie’s previous actions in the book. But also when you read the book, you somewhat get a sense that you know them.

The other animals during the book Animal Farm all follow and never are against the government they instilled. They believe the pigs to be the smartest of all animals, so what they are saying must be true.. The animals work long hours with the promise of relaxation when either retired or when the windmill is built. Neither of the ideas are true and instead they’re made to work still with less food than when Jones was in charge. The lower class people during the Russian Revolution were only worth as much labour they could do. The animals are seen as lower to the pigs that run the farm. All animals except the pigs are a symbol for the lower class during 1917 and onward They are overworked and underpaid.

The book can also be about how power falls into the wrong hands. At the beginning of the story the reader sees how Mr. Jones is mean and terrible. It is not shown how he got his power and how he was before but with Napoleon we see how he was before. He wasn’t very convincing during meetings. The animals would prefer Snowball who Napoleon was fully against. It makes the idea that Napoleon was bad from the beginning. However, this claim doesn’t explain Snowball. Snowball came up with the idea of the windmill; something to allow the animals to relax as the work was automated from electricity. Snowball throughout the book Snowball doesn’t seem to be exploiting the animals for his own or the pigs benefit. He had power during the revolution and stayed on the side of the animals. That tells us that the effect of the book isn’t about power in the wrong hands but instead about people being corrupted by having power.

All and all George Orwell, author of Animal Farm, created the claim that power corrupts people by using symbolism. It makes the reader wonder how it is in the real world. During the book Animal Farm the elected leader and officials start to take advantage of the other animals. It started out well with good intentions. The animals agreed that having the smartest run the farm would be ideal, but that everyone gets a say. By the end of the book they don’t have any say and instead have to follow the rules the pigs put in place. The book being an allegory for the Russian Revolution proves that this kind of government can be corrupted by anything and has happened in the real life past. It makes the reader ponder if corruption is currently happening in the world today.

  10. There is suspense in everyday life; never knowing what comes next is always an adventure. In the book “The Land of Stories a Grimm Warning,” by Chris Colfer, Twins named Alex and Conner are in different worlds, Alex is in the fairy tale world and Conner in our world. The gateway between these two worlds was sealed forever; Conner investigates the portal when he finds out an army is going to the fairytale world threatening the lives of his sister, Grandmother, and Friends. In “The Land of Stories a Grimm Warning,” Chris Colfer uses Foreshadowing, Dialogue, and the reader knowing more than the Characters, to build suspense.

Chris Colfer uses a lot of techniques to build suspense, one of them is the reader knowing more than the characters. He does this by showing the Hero's side and the Villains side. For example he shows Conner, Bree, and Emmerich going into the portal to enter the fairytale world. Meaning that the Armee is on its way too and none of the other characters know. Later on in the book, he shows the Armee obtaining a dragon egg, the one creature that the fairy tale world can’t beat. He also shows the moment when Rook decides to give up the royals location, and shows the general the secret path. This then leads to the general threatening to execute the royals if the fairies don’t surrender the world to the General and his Armee.

Another way that Chris Colfer creates suspense is through foreshadowing. He leaves subtle hints about what's going to happen. One example of this is when Mother Goose says, “Someone else may have slipped between dimensions undetected in the past… but who?” Later on in the story they find out that Little Bo Peep's child was sent to another world as a baby. Another time that Chris Colfer uses foreshadow is in the beginning of the book, when Mother Goose tells Conner that the portal between worlds (that was previously closed forever) may have been reopened and then Conner finds the portal and goes through it to the fairy tale world. The author also uses foreshadowing when Mother Goose and the Fairy Godmother are talking about a secret that Mother Goose needs to keep even when the Fairy Godmother is gone. We later find out that the secret was about the masked man being her son.

The final way that Chris Colfer builds the suspense of the book, is the characters' dialogue. Most of this is seen during the end of the book like when they say, “The rumors were true; a dragon had risen in the land of stories.” This was the moment that the Dragon shows up at the Fairy Palace and everyone hopes for a miracle. Although this could be said that the effect of this is creating a mood of fear and despair; it is actually building suspense, because this is the climax when everyone is waiting for a miracle to happen and save the fairy tale world. Another time the author uses dialogue to build suspense is when Alex and Conner crash and he says, “They looked at the trees around them and wondered where they had landed but their vision faded away as the both slowly lost consciousness.” This is the moment that the war begins and both the main characters are knocked out of the sky during the enemies attack. The final time that Chris Colfer builds suspense is the very last sentence in the book when Alex says, “The masked man-it was dad.” Chris Colfer leaves the book on one giant cliffhanger.

Chris Colfer, author of “The Land of Stories a Grimm Warning”, created the overall effect of building suspense using Dialogue, Foreshadowing, and the reader knowing more than the characters. As readers of this work, we can see that the book is full of moments where it seems like the villains will win but in the end the war is won by the Heroes; Chris Colfer also leaves the book on a cliffhanger leaving the perfect ending to start the next book in the series.

The final craft move that John Steinbeck uses is symbolism to show the dream. On this dream farm, Lennie always wanted to have rabbits because he was going to tend and care for them. This is an important symbol because for them if this comes true they will know they actually made it. “An’ rabbits,” Lennie said eagerly.. “An I’d take care of ‘em. Tell how I’d do that George.” Throughout this whole story, the rabbits have always been something that Lennie has looked forward too. The bunnies were his dream. Unfortunately, after the terrible thing that he did, there dream is not longer in the foreseeable future. For Lennie, his dreams were crumbled. You can see that here; Lennie hasn’t ever not got what he wanted. A reader might believe that the overall effect is just keep believing. While that may be true for that reader, I believe that the overall effect has to be that your dreams aren’t always going to come true because the longer you tell yourself that they will, the harder it will be for you to get out of this rabbit hole of a lie.
In, “Of Mice and Men” you can see that John Steinbeck used dialogue, character actions, and symbolism to show that your dreams aren’t always going to come true. For them, it took awhile to realize that the dream wasn’t going to come true but they tried. What if they wouldn’t have tried? If they just never dreamed of a dream? Where do you think they would be? It’s always a good thing to have hope but just make sure that you can also accept failure as well.

  12. Part 1
There are many times in life where people have to make a decision, this decision is the right decision. Many times you have to make a decision for a family member, a best friend, and usually it’s something that helps them out, or makes them happy. However sometimes, this decision may be something you do not want to do, it might be something that is sad, but in the end, it was the right decision. In the book Of Mice and Men, by John Steinbeck there are two guys who travel together, everywhere, Lennie Small and George Milton. Throughout the story the two work everyday, and talk about when they get enough money they’re going to “‘live on the fatta the lan’.” this is their goal in life Later on in the story they meet a girl, Curley’s wife, they never mention her name but Lennie and her begin to talk, and she’s nice to him. She talks about how her hair is soft; she offered to let him feel it. Lennie starts to feel it, he starts to pat it harder, and harder, not realizing. Lennie isn’t exactly the most gentle person, eventually Lennie snaps her neck. When the boys find her body, they immediately know who did it, Lennie. George is the first to find him, hiding in the brush. He took the gun from Lennie’s pocket and shot him, even though this was sad, it was for the best. The author used tone, character actions, and dialogue to explain the effect of doing what’s right for someone you love, may be sad.

The author uses points of dialogue to explain the effect of doing what’s right for someone you love, may be sad. When Lennie talks with people he is super sweet, and tries his best to be nice, George sometimes has to save him from others because of some of the things he says that he didn’t intend to mean the way he said. “‘Look Lennie! This here aint no setup. I’m scared, You gonna have trouble with that Curley guy. I seen that kind before. He was kinda feelin’ you out. He figures he’s got you scared and he’s gonna take a sock at you the first chance he gets.’” George is just trying to protect Lennie because people just wanna hurt him just because he’s a little different. Lennie is very different from everyone else, and he says things with the best intentions, but sometimes he just needs to be protected.

Another effect in Of Mice and Men could be Protecting loved ones. Someone may think this because George is just trying to look out for Lennie, and he doesn’t want him to get in trouble or get hurt. However throughout the story George has to make decisions for Lennie, and sometimes they aren’t the happiest. Especially at the end of the book. So the effect of doing what’s right for someone you love, may be sad, is clearly the effect.

The author uses some points of Character Actions to explain the effect of doing what’s right for someone you love, may be sad. Lennie and George travel together always, but sometimes Lennie can be a bit much to handle. “‘If I get in any trouble you ain’t gonna let me tend the rabbits.’ ‘That’s not what I meant. You remember where we slep’ last night? Down by the river.’ “Yea. I remember. Oh, sure I remember! I go down there an’ hide in the brush.’” What George does to protect Lennie is sweet, he may be hard to care for, but he means well. Lennie needs some protection because he doesn’t know what’s right and what isn’t right, so he gets in a bit of trouble.

The author used tone in the story to make the readers feel some different emotions. The majority of these emotions were sad ones, “George raised the gun and his hand shook, and he dropped his hand to the ground again.” The tone of this sentence really makes me feel bad for George because he has to kill his own best friend, and Lennie, because he has to die. If Lennie were caught, he would’ve been charged with murder, and probably would have been tortured, so what George did was probably for the best. Showing the effect of doing what’s right for someone you love, may be sad.

  13. Part 2
The author also used some imagery in the story to show us how doing what’s right for someone you love, may be sad. The author used this towards the end of the book, to explain how George felt when he had to shoot Lennie. The way he described how he raised and lowered the gun, and how his hand shaked. “The crash of the shot rolled up the hills and rolled down again. Lennie jarred, and then settled slowly forward to the sand, and he lay without quivering.” This helps the reader visualize what happened after George fired the shot, killing Lennie. It helps the reader to understand what the shot sounded like, and what Lennie acted like afterward. Showing the reader the imagery the author used.

In the story Of Mice and Men, there are many points in the story that show that doing what’s right for someone you love, may be sad. The author shows this with tone, character actions, imagery, and dialogue. The readers could see that when George tries to protect Lennie when he says things. How George makes sure Lennie is safe when he gets in trouble, even if it isn’t the best spot to be, and when George has to kill Lennie because he killed Curley’s wife, even if it was an accident. George had to do what he did, otherwise Lennie would’ve been found and have been tortured for what he did. So the author uses the points to show us the effect of doing what’s right for someone you love, may be sad.

  14. All human beings need to have good friends that will have their backs. We all want to have such good friends but even the most unlikely of people could turn their backs on you. In the book as good as dead, by holly jackson, the readers see that Pip has lots of good friends and knows a lot of good people but one of those people who she didn't really trust but trusted him enough turned out to be her stalker/killer. Some of the main points about as good as dead is when the stalker would draw five stick figures without heads, two decapitated pigeons, and texts saying who comes to look for you when you go missing. Although it could be said that the effect of being as good as dead is sometimes you just need to be loved and receive love, this fails to take into account the main problem in the story. which is that Pip has a killer after her. In as good as dead, Holly Jackson uses symbolism, character action, and dialog to show the overall effect of suspense in her story.

One of the main symbols is a dead girl walking on the floor where she usually runs. The reason is that the author probably put that there to really try to implement that Pip is like being targeted or hunted. Also for that the only way that the really build up suspense is through email saying “if you go missing how will look for you.” now the dead girl walking on the floor where she runs implements that she isn't really safe and that something bad will and could happen.

A character action that is found in the book is. When Pip is really scared and tries to call for help but can’t because she might feel that if she gets help that she will drag the person down with her. She still has PTSD from holding a dying Stanley Forbes. A character action from Ravi Pip’s boyfriend and when she got captured and eventually killed the DT killer she finally called him and he was really worried and wanted to know what had happened, realizing that he really cares about her and loves her and that if she went down that they would go down together. He also rushed there to try and see if she was ok.

“Who will come look for you if you go missing” this is a piece by Pip's killer/stalker maybe trying to get Pip worried or upset about it. When Pip found DEad girl walking on her run route and told Ravi he said “Dead girl walking that you found on the floor, do you think that this has to do with the pigeons?” When Pip realizes who it Might be she stated “who will visit you when you are in a cage” when the killer/stalker called her. When Pip said that the reader could have thought that it was Daniel De Silva and had it figured out. When she got captured by the DT killer the reader might have realized that it wasn't him because why would Daniel wait until she figured out that it was him.

Holly Jackson , author of as good as dead, created the overall effect of suspense using symbolism, character action, and dialog. As readers of her story, you can see that the main effect is suspense; because if there is no suspense then you can’t have a killer/stalker in your story. The main parts of this author's body paragraphs are. The dead girl walking on the floor of where Pip runs. This is the main part because it shows the overall effect which is suspense because it might make the reader think that she will truly die. When Pip is dealing with the PTSD of watching Stanley Forbes die. This shows that even though she is still dealing with his death doesn't mean that she isn't trying to cope. Also it could make the reader think that everything will be ok because she is thinking less about her killer/stalker. “Who will come look for you when you go missing?” That is the main dialog that you get from the stalker/killer until she gets captured. This could make the reader think and wonder when she does go missing who will look for her? The main effect started because of the “who will come look for you” texts if that was never introduced then the effect might be something different and there might not have been a killer/stalker.

  15. People in the world feel like that if an apocalypse happens we will be fine and we can survive but if something. Did happen, most people believe that it won’t be as easy as others say it would be. The book, The End by Charlie Higson, there are multiple different kids trying. to survive an apocalypse where most grown became hungry animals trying to eat the children. It is told in different perspectives of kids and here are some examples: Maxie, Blue, Jester, David.

Most characters have their own Dialogue too that includes their own problems they have to deal with a lot during the book. Some characters will react to events in a similar way over the course of the book. These kids try to find a better solution and later on try making all the kids work together than against each other. In The End, Charlie Higson uses multiple perspectives, Dialogue, and symbolism to show how dangerous being. Overconfidence is and the overall effect first happens when. Multiple perspectives, showed the reader the confidants draining from the characters in the book.

One of the most obvious author’s craft techniques in the book is multiple perspectives the Authors of. The End uses different perspectives of each character to show how the characters. Confidence decreases and sometimes gets characters in the book killed because they are too confident. Saif is one of the characters that is an example of a kid who lets his confidants get the better of him. Although it could be argued that multiple perspectives were added to show the fears of each. Character, when you look closely it’s clear that it shows the confidentes of most characters and how it decreases throughout the book.

Another author’s craft technique that the author used that was a little bit more difficult to find was dialogue. In the book dialogue is used a lot in the book and sometimes it shares facts about. Characters in the book and dialogue sometimes show how the characters' confidence gets worse over the course of the book. And dialogue also shows how some characters get their confidants. And how it ends up bad later on in the story because most characters in the book who got confident also died a lot.

  16. Part 2
And the final author’s craft technique in the book is symbolism and this was a lot more difficult to find but this symbol is used a lot and is mentioned sometimes by the characters. And the virus might be a symbol of one of the many disasters that happens and it makes a lot of the characters. Scared and made them lose their confidants. Although it could be argued that the overall effect could be the fears of the characters. Have to go through when you look closely it’s clear that it shows how the virus is being used as a symbol of disasters.

Reading this book however makes you question why the author makes the children believe they could fight. Grown ups easily, maybe the author wanted to show the readers that kids in real. Life now would maybe have a chance if something like this happened in the future. And the overall effect could be also questioned why did the author go for being overconfident. For the effect? maybe the author knows the reader would understand and added it.

Because the author wanted to show how kids would react to a disaster and Charlie Higson, author of The End. created the overall effect of don’t let confidentes get the better of you using multiple perspective, dialogue and symbolism first, Higson showed being over confident with multiple perspectives, because in the book the authors show multiple. Perspectives of character who each had their own opinion on events that happen in the story and some. Characters get over confident and end up losing their confidence later on. Next, the other craft move is Dialogue because sometimes a character shares facts about them and.

How great they are but as the story continues they start to believe that maybe they are not as good as they think.. Finally, Charlie Higson employed Symbolism. Because in the book the virus could be a symbol of a disaster that could happen. And it became very powerful because the people in the book believed that they were too strong and nothing too bad would happen to them. Charlie Higson successfully used Multiple perspectives, Dialogue and Symbolism to make the reader feel that being overconfident can be very dangerous.

  17. Part 2
Lastly, the symbolism shows that not everything will be in your power. In the story one symbol sticks out to me over everything else, the man drenched in gasoline, holding a match threatening them if they come any closer he would burn them all alive. This as the characters say “Summed up our lives within the last couple of months.” Dashner put this in because of all the crazy in the world some people might think he wanted to express that we all need to communicate, and accept each other's boundaries. If Alec and Mark would have pushed on the man to get him to stop while walking over it would have been like a predator cornering a scared prey animal, and that animal would do all it can to survive.

In conclusion the world is a messed up place full of messed up people and Dashner might have felt the inspiration from the world around him. Throughout the whole series Dashner created the effect of Not everything is going to work in your favor by not being afraid to manhandle the characters, while killing many of them. He gives all the characters a harsh sense of reality. In the whole series the characters are in a toxic position that would leave anybody with PTSD. James Dashner uses Character dialog, character actions, and symbolism to show things aren't always in your control.

  18. People need to take risks if they want a change. In the book “1984”, by George Orwell, the readers observe the characters risking their lives by opposing the government. The book is set in a dystopian setting, where reproductive relationships are often punishable by death. George Orwell uses Inner thoughts, dialogue, and symbolism to convey the message that people need to take risks if they want to make a difference.

The author includes inner thoughts to support the message that change requires risks. By reading the inner thoughts of Winston, the reader gets a deeper understanding of the situation he is in. This information tells the audience that Winston is taking risks every day. From lying to his neighbors to strategic shortcuts to avoid getting questioned, the thoughts show how Winston is taking risks. By adding inner thoughts, the author shows the reader that they should take risks if they want to change.

Dialogue that George Orwell writes signifies to the reader the need to take risks. The comrades in 1984 are discouraged from having unnecessary exchanges with the other gender. Winston and Julia only exchange quiet and short phrases with each other in public, fearful of anyone from “The Party” catching them together. They plan to meet up in remote locations without government surveillance. While they’re alone, the dialogue becomes freer and more casual. Switching from short and precise phrases to longer and more dynamic conversations. This shows the two going against the government and changing their lives by taking risks.

People might believe that the theme of 1984 is “Love is a driving force”. There is some evidence to support this; however, Winston and Julia’s relationship is more physical than emotional. Some can argue that Winston doing impulsive things to get with Julia shows how love is a strong emotion that can make people do risky things. Although they are correct, this also supports my claim of needing to do risky things to make a difference.

The author uses Symbolism to show Winston defying the government. The first symbol described is the diary. Winston writes his experiences in the diary and commonly talks about the past. Jotting down movies he has watched or the intercourses he’s had. Other times, he goes on a rant and describes the problems with the government. If he gets caught, there’s a slim chance he’ll survive. Another symbol brought up in the story is the note. Passing the message of “I love you” to Winston, shows Julia directly taking a massive risk to get with him. It is similar to passing notes in class. Defying the greater force, the teacher or government, by communicating when it is opposed. These two symbols show the reader that the author desires to tell the message of taking risks.

George Orwell conveys the message that people need to take risks if they desire to change by using inner thoughts, dialogue, and symbolism. The reader can observe inner thoughts and understand the drive behind Winston’s actions. Dialogue helps the reader know the hardships of trying to go against Big Brother. It shows that the characters are restricted and suppressed because of the constant monitoring. Finally, the symbols show objects that represent the characters risking their lives and the things they use to do it. By using these methods, George Orwell tells the reader to take risks

It’s important to follow your own path in life. When you do that, you don’t gotta do or follow what other people are doing if you like doing different things than you go and do you own thing and who cares if people thinks it weird just ignore them your doing own thing and that all that matters, so yeah it’s important to follow your own path in life sometimes because you might not be good at something that all your friends are good at so it’s always good to try things on your own and sometimes you can try to get some of your friends to do what you like to do sometimes. In Going Places, Peter and Paul Reynolds, tell the story of two kids that follow their own path. Kids in a classroom were given kits to build a go kart for the races. Rafael was really excited for this when the teacher asked who wants the first kit Rafael's hand shot straight up. Once Rafael got home he got workin and when he was done his go kart looked just like the one on the instructions. When Rafael was done, he wondered how his friend Maya was doing. Maya lived next door so Rafael went to go check on her. When Rafael got there, Maya hadn't even started yet; she was just looking at the birds. Rafael got Maya to get started on her go kart. Later on, Rafael went back over to Maya’s. To see how she is doing on her go kart. When Rafael got there, Maya may have built something, but Rafael said to Maya that it is not a go kart. Maya said who said it has to be a go kart, Rafael took a deep thought, and told Maya hey the instruction never said we couldn’t team up. Do you wanna and Maya said yes, so they got to building and Rafael and Maya worked all night and they both came up with building a plane which they succeeded to build their plane go kart. In Going Places, Peter and Paul Reynolds use Character actions, illustrations, and dialogue to show we should follow our own path.

The first craft move that the Reynolds brothers used to create the effect of following your own path was character actions The first action we see this is when Rafael and Maya took off into the air with a plane that they both built together while all the other kids were just driving on the ground with the regular go karts that they made themselves, And Rafael and Maya ended up winning the race after all the kids made fun of them when the other kids said “looks likes you had trouble with the going places instructions". This shows that you don’t have to follow the same path that everyone else takes because just because everyone is doing what the instructions are telling you to do doesn’t mean you have to do everything everyone else is the instruction are just there for a guide so Rafael and Maya thought about that and the instructions never said that they had to use the instruction or that they couldn’t team up so they both decided to team up and make a plane instead of a go kart that looks the same as everyone else's. Another action is when Rafael and Maya won the race Maya slammed on the braked right in front of a lake so they wouldn’t fall in and in that lake there were so many lily pads and frogs and When Maya slammed on the brakes Rafael and Maya both saw a frog leap off a lily pad and dive into the water, so Rafael and Maya looked at each other and Maya said Are you thinking what i'm thinking and they were both thinking the same thing at the end of the book they both built a machine built like a frog and were jumping on the water. This shows that you don’t have go follow the same path that everyone one else take because when Rafael and Maya won the race after building a plane which no one else thought about they wanted to build another one and they both wanted to build one just like a frog and they succeeded Rafael and Maya followed their own path by building a frog while everyone after the go kart race just went home and did whatever but Rafael and Maya were building a new machine. Clearly, Peter and Paul Reynolds used character actions to successfully create the effect of following your own path.

  20. Part 2
Illustrations were another craft move used by the authors to create the overall idea of following your own path. The first illustration that really showed this idea was in a picture in my book of Rafael and Maya working really hard over night to build their plane go kart. The picture in my book really shows how Rafael and Maya were following their own path because Rafael and Maya were working so hard and all night to make the best plane go kart they can possible ever make while other people would probably be sleeping but not Rafael and Maya they were only focused on their plane and nothing else at the moment and all the hard work pay off at the races. A second illustration that shows the overall effect was another picture in my book of Rafael and Maya walking up to the races with a plane not regular go kart like all the other kids and all the other kids started to make fun of Rafael and Maya talking how that’s not even go kart that it’s not even going to go anywhere but Rafael and Maya were just ignoring them they were just gonna have to show them what they built with the races started. The second picture in the book I told you about showed how Rafael and Maya followed their own path because when Rafael and Maya were walking up to the starting line they had big smiles on they face but the other kids tried making fun of them and ruining their spirit but that didn’t even affect Rafael and Maya they just had to show them in the race which Rafael and Maya won the whole thing and shut up all the other kids. The illustrations were a major way the authors showed their readers to follow their own path.

A final way the authors showed us that it’s important to follow your own path was through the dialogue. One quote that started it all was when Rafael told Maya, ““Extremely cool but, uh, Maya, that's not a go kart.” “Maya smiled who said it had to be a go kart.”” This shows that we should follow our own path because when Rafael said to Maya that’s not a go kart Maya told Rafael who said it had to be go kart, this shows that you should follow your own path because Rafael was really into this go kart race so he thought it had to be the go kart in the instruction but Maya said it never had to be a go kart so Rafael thought of it and turns out Maya was actually right. Another quote was when Rafael came up with an idea to team up ,”I get it hey, I really want to win this race. The instructions never said we couldn’t team up either.” This quote also showed us to follow our own paths because after Maya showed and told Rafael that you don’t have to use the instruction, Rafael also saw that it never said you couldn’t, so they both decided to team up and build a plane instead a of go kart which turned out great even though it was different from everyones but they didn’t care because they followed their own path. Overall, the quotes did an excellent job of showing us that we should follow our own path. Readers can clearly see that the authors showed the importance of following your own path throughout Going Places. First, readers see this with their actions. The author used character action when Rafael and Maya came to the starting with a plane not a go kart, which shows following your own path. Then we see it with the illustrations. The author used illustration in a picture of Rafael and Maya working overnight to build their plane. Finally, the readers can see the message in the dialogue. The author uses dialogue in a quote in the story “Extremely cool but, uh, Maya, that's not a go kart.” “Maya smiled who said it had to be a go kart.” That quote shows that they use dialogue in the story.

Everybody has their own perspective on how they see things. whether it be how people see a situation or whether it be how somebody sees a glass of water half full or half empty. But in this case of multiple perspectives it is how different characters perspectives on how to survive. In the story The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey the story is told by multiple different characters views I will show you how The book the 5th Wave shows multiple character perspectives. By showing how the characters think.
My first character i would like to talk about is Cassie or Cassiopeia she is our first character we meet she lives in a tent in the middle of the woods in hiding at the start of the story. Her perspective of the world as it is now is trust nobody and stay alone not just because it's the safest route of action but she believes that she might be the last human on earth. We can see this throughout the first book a lot because of the events throughout the story. During the story she is hurt and walking through the snow and passes out she thought she was going to die but she was saved by a stranger named evan and she is stuck there at first she kinda trusts him because well he saved her life but when some things don’t add up she stats contemplating if he is real or not weather she should run or stay with him and weather rhe is real or not She is very confused about his story because it doesn't add up like what she thought that he has soft hands but he used to do hard work on his farm. But then tries to rationalize her thinking by saying that he probably hasn't done any farm work since the first wave hit months ago. As well as when evan goes hunting but never brings back anything she just rasonalizes again that he is a bad shot. But yet she is still debating whether to trust him or not because of a these things that don’t add up. She wants to trust him but the her thinking is getting in the way of letting her she doesn't know what's real and what isn't. Although some people may say that

Next I have Sam. Sam also referred to as nugget or sammy throughout the story by different characters because of how they see him. Sam is Cassie's little brother who is 6 years old. His perspective of the world is that everything will always be fine i’ll be ok. He only thinks like this because he is a child. As a little kid he has no perception of how the world works. So when he is taken by the survivors that are actually aliens he totally trusts because he believes that everything is ok and he won’t be hurt. but don't want to leave because he wants to be with his family so he Cassie make a promise to him that she will come get him so he will go because at the time everyone thought it was safe. so cassie makes a promise with him and sam gave her his teddy bear to make sure she keeps the promise because he wants to believe that everything is ok but really it isn’t because the world is ending. The thing is that Sam doesn't want to believe that because he doesn't know what is happening and why he is being sent away and he thinks that the promise that Cassie made to him as a a secure life line because that's what he sees and believes in.

  22. Part 2

Finally we have Zombie’s perspective on the world is that they were lied to and essentially they are Screwed. Zombie has survive the Red Death or the Red Plague which has a 98% kill rate in the story. All thought that might contradict my thinking of how he sees the world people throughout history have seen surviving the red death a fate worse than dying from it. Next He was chipped and taken to wonderland which is the supposed safe space for everybody. He is trained to be a soldier and He thinks that maybe he has a chance to survive and fight off all of the aliens that are taking over. But after they graduate that are deployed into a town to exterminate any aliens. For them the “aliens” will glow green in there eye piece. But through the mission they are on one of there squad members Ringer goes what he thinks is crazy and takes the chip out of her body. But then Ringer lights up green in Zombies eyepiece. After this Zombie pieces together that they have been lied to being soldiers are the 5th wave or disaster to wipe out everybody. So Zombie realizes that they are the only ones who know this and if they try to say anything nobody will believe them because that Camp Haven or Wonderland is there only hope that they have so they leave by themselves.

So throughout the story of the 5th wave there are many character with many different perspectives on the world and many different reasons why they see their world that way.. Whether it be Cassie trusting nobody because it's the safes option or sams Way of thinking everything is going to be fine or maybe Zombies way of seeing that they have been lied to and they are all screwed. I feel that having multiple points of views of situations adds depth to the character and the story of the 5th wave.

  23. Have you ever been on a sports team and tried to win a championship? Or has your favorite team won a championship that you got to witness in person? In “Dragon Hoops” by Gene Luen Yang, a basketball team in California makes a run for the California State Championship. However, their school is 0-8 in championship games. Now even though they’ve never won a championship, they always work hard. Which is why the claim for this story is that hard work pays off.

The first helpful craft move is showing a character’s motivation. Each player states a reason why they want to win when having their interviews with Yang. Also the coaches give a reason especially coach Lou when he says “2015 is finally our year because of two reasons. Ivan Rabb and Paris Austin.” There’s also slight details when each of the players go silent before a big game to show that they are getting ready. The team also has a motto they go by. What it’s called is Fewest Mistakes Wins.

Another helpful craft move in this story is introducing characters. Most of the important roles of the team get their own chapter that majorizes them. The characters such as Ivan and Paris, Coach Lou and more characters get their own chapter because of their backstory. Yang also uses many flashbacks to help us understand how their life started and how their transition was into Bishop O’Dowd. This way it’s easier to get an understanding on why each of these players and coaches first start in O’Dowd. And some characters such as Alex, Arinze, and Jeevin who are students from different countries that have transferred get good backstories so people realize how hard it was for them to make the switch.

The last craft move in this story is building suspense. And it’s something Yang does throughout the entire story. The first time Yang uses suspense is when he is illustrating the conversation between him and coach Lou about Lou’s first time making it to the championship game but as a player. Lou ended up taking the final shot of that game. And he made it! However it didn’t count due to offensive goaltending. The next time he uses major suspense is when we get to the championship game. The main thing the character’s have been working for since the beginning of the story. Yang does a good job describing how the game goes back and forth. And especially when it comes down to the final shot of the game where Ivan Rabb is shooting a free throw for the win. And does he make it? Of course he does. How would the story have ended if he didn’t make it?

A reader might believe that the overall effect of Dragon Hoops is teamwork. While that may be true for that reader, I believe that the overall effect has to be that hard work pays off because each player on that team works hard and contributes a certain skill to help their team.

  24. In Ten Beautiful things Molly Beth Griffin uses the Ten beautiful things in the story to show the reader that even when bad things happen you’ll always have family. The ten things also symbolize that when bad things happen good things can come out of that. Whenever something bad happens everyone needs someone who is going to show them affection no matter what, like your family. This is why I think you need family no matter what happens.
Next, there are many actions in this book that prove the claim that when bad things happen you’ll always have family. In the book the Grandmother hugs the granddaughter after something bad happens that we weren’t told in the story, and she gets to her “new” home with her Grandmother. Another example of how family matters is when the grandmother starts playing the; find ten things game and not only is she playing it to distract the child from what just happened but also the grandmother because whatever happened to the girls’ parents one of the parents was the grandmother's child. Lastly, in the beginning of the book when she points to the map the author emphasizes how it’s an “empty” piece of land. This shows us that the child doesn’t think there will be anything of importance or beauty where she’s going but in the end finds out it’s family.
We need to know somebody's gonna be in our lives no matter what. So, that’s why when the grandmother takes in her granddaughter you really start to feel their connection grow on the ride to her “new” home. You really feel this connection when the grandmother says, (“Here we be…home…”, “But, we only made it to nine.” She said "slumping in her seat” and then the grandmother stated, “Nope, ten easy…we’re ten!” This shows how strong of a connection the grandmother has with her granddaughter and therefore proving my claim that when bad things happen you’ll always have family.
In conclusion, in Ten Beautiful Things written by Molly Beth Griffin the theme of this story is family. So, when bad things happen you will always have family, and therefore we need to know somebody's gonna be in our lives no matter what.

  25. All human beings need to let out there emotions. We all want to hold in our emotions but its not good to keep in to many emotions. In the book Out of a Jar, by DeBorah Marcero, the readers see how Llewellyn puts his emotions into jars. But then after awhile he can't fit anymore and it all bursts. In Out of a Jar, Deborah Marcero uses inner thoughts, symbolism, and description to show what happens when you hold in to many emotions.

The first craft move that the author used to create Out of a Jar was inner thinking. We first see this with the start of Out of a Jar when the author talks about how Llewellyn likes scary movies, books, and jokes. The next perspective we see is that he doesn’t like to be scared, therefore he puts his scared emotions into a jar. Clearly the use of inner thinking showed what he liked to do and what he did not like and what he did about it.
Another craft move that Llewellyn used was description. The readers was this first when Llewellyn starts putting in most of his emotions into jars. Other action that was important to showing how humans need to think about their actions was that he held in to many emotions, but then he could hold in that many emotions that all of the jars burst out. As a result, Llewellyn did a lot to show us that you shouldn't hold in all of your emotions.
A final way that the effect of Out of a jar is symbolism. Because he whenever he doesn't want to have a emotion he stuffs it into a jar. I think he does this because he doesn't want to feel that type of emotion. But what happens is that he keeps in to many emotions and eventually has all of his emotions burst out. It even says in the story “CRRRRAAAACK!” as in he couldn't keep in all of these emotions so they just bursted. His emotions come back to him and now that he has all of his emotions back he feels “He was happy and sad at the same time… He was excited and worried.”.
Deborah Marcero , author of Out of a Jar, created the overall effect of holding in your emotions using Description, Symbolism, and Inner Thinking. First, Marcero showed symbolism with the jars in the story resemble holding in the emotions. Next, the craft move description was used. The description told about what made him put those emotions into the jars. Finally, Deborah Marcero employed inner thinking because it talks about what his feeling are when he wants to get rid of his emotions. Deborah Marcero successfully used Symbolism, Inner Thinking, and Description to make the reader feel that they maybe shouldn’t keep in all their emotions.

  26. All human beings need to have some to teamwork in somethings, we all want to get stuff done fast and right. In the book”Going Places”, by Peter and Paul Reynolds, the readers see teamwork. In “Going places” peter and Paul Reynolds uses Introduce character, Build a mood, and set a purpose to show teamwork.

First the authors show Introduce characters in “Going places”. Rafael is really into go-kart and he is good at following directions. Maya is really into bird she was watching them the whole, time try to make her go-kart in to something that flyers. The two kid that make the go-kart put in a lot of effort and hard work to make the go-kart.”

Second the authors show the Build a mood in “Going places”. The kids were excited to make go-kart for a racing event. Hard working kid are going to be a good thing for the kids. Kid were amazed but what the two kids did.”The other contestant looked up in amazement”.

Third the authors show set a purpose in “Going places” Some time is be to be different cause some kid don't like to be like others. Make something better then other kids it might be better. Teamwork makes the dreamwork in making a project, or any thing in life. A reader might believe that the overall effect of “Going places is friendship While that may be true for that reader, I believe that the overall effect has to be teamwork because the two kid work together to “The next day everyone gathered for the big race each go-kart was perfect replica of the others’.

Peter and paul Reynolds author of “Going places”,created the overall effect of teamwork using introduc characters, build a mood and set a purpose. First the Reynolds employed set a purpose. Reynolds successfully used introduce character, build a mood and set a purpose to make the reader feel like teamwork in the theme.

  27. The authors in Slip, Marika McCoola and Aatmaja Pandya uses Inner Thinking, Illustration, and character to show how her art is showing her anger and emotions that are build up and how it is affecting the other characters. Jane the main character faced a challenge before she went to art camp; Her best friend tried to commint suicide, which really effeted her mental health.

The first craft move the authors showed was Inner thinking in “Slip”. The main character Jade almost lost her best friend to a suicide attemt and which caused her to have bad mental health. A lot of her thoughts contain at fault for her best friend, doubting herself, and love emotion. Somethings can tigger the bad thoughts, but she chooses to bottle them up and never open up how she feels. Sometimes her Inner thoughts are good thoughts like romantic thoughts.

The second craft move the authors showed us was the Illustration during “slip”. The color pink on and off shows all the different emotions Jade has and when she thinks about the past about her best friend. The authors showed how her mental health was in packing her mood. You can tell when she is at her worst or at her best. When her sculptures come to life you feel that it is her inner emotion or even the monsters within her.
The final craft the author showed us was how the characters were affected. With Mary, Jade is pushing her away bc of her thoughts talking and is always to busy. Which later on in the story Jade tells Mary everything and they finally get together. Jane feels her best friend is pushing her away. Jane feels her friend trying to comint suicide was her fault. We don’t really find out much about her best friend.

In conclusion, Marika McCoola and Aatmaja Pandya uses Inner Thinking, Illustration, and character to show how her art is showing her anger and emotions that are build up and how it is affecting the other characters. They really showed her emotions through Illustration and how her best friend affected her. Also the Inner thinking should her thought process and showed how much she cared for her best friend. The book also showed a love story, the Illustration really showed that too.

  28. All human beings need to think about everyone, and not just themselves. Not everyone realizes that ADHD is everywhere in the world. The person right next to you could have ADHD, you never know. In the book Button Pusher, by Tyler Page, the main character (Tyler) has ADHD; not a lot of people know how to deal with his actions. His teacher always yells at him and doesn’t think about what might be happening in they life outside school. Tyler is always touching things and not everyone understands why. He has to take Ritalin to sort of tame his actions. In Button Pusher, Tyler Page uses symbolism, repetition, and a resolution to show everyone how ADHD can affect our lives.

Tyler Page uses symbolism to show how Ritalin is useful. Tyler has to take Ritalin to help his ADHD. Every morning he has to take the Ritalin so he doesn’t get crazy and get off task. If Tyler didn’t take his medicine, he would be all crazy and he wouldn’t be able to pay attention to anything. Ritalin is a medicine that can help with ADHD and it helps Tyler calm down. “Ritalin was first made in 1944 by Leandro Panizzon, he named it after his wife Rita.” Sometimes I wonder how people come up with the names of things, but now I know how Ritalin was named. People should think before speaking, it could hurt people.

Tyler Page used repetition to show how ADHD can affect children. Tyler has ADHD; he is always out of his seat and he can’t ever sit still until the doctor gat him ritalin. ADHD is also known as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. Some ADHD symptoms could be: it lasts more than 6 months, it can occur in more than. one environment, and it can interfere with normal functioning, behaviors and emotional regulations.

Tyler Page uses a resolution to show how taking medicine can help us. Tyler overcomes ADHD by taking Ritalin ,a type of medicine. The ritalin helped him so much that in 11th grade Tyler didn’t have to take it anymore (8 years after he started taking it). When he was able to stop taking it he had said he didn’t feel much different, only that he was paying attention, and he could sit still. Although it could be said that the effect of Button Pusher is to never give up, this fails to take into account the fact that it also is that ADHD can affect anyone’s life in any and all ways.

Tyler Page, author of Button Pusher, created the overall effect of using symbolism, repetition, and a resolution. First, Page used symbolism to show us that ritalin is the symbol in Button Pusher. I chose ritalin as the symbol because Tyler has to take the medicine to help his ADHD. Next, the craft move of Button Pusher was used when we found out how bad Tylers ADHD was so bad.. Review how that craft move created the effect in 2 sentences. Finally, Tyler Page employed a resolution. He used a resolution to show how Tyler overcame his ADHD. Tyler was finally able to stop taking ritalin in 11th grade (8 years after he started using it). Tyler also claimed that he felt the same and didn’t feel any different than when he was taking the ritalin. Tyler Page successfully used symbolism, repetition and a resolution to make the reader think about others and how they feel before being rude to that person.

  29. Everyone in life needs to understand that judging people based on how they look isn’t okay, especially if it ties into racial stereotypes. In the book Milo Imagines the World, by Matt de la Peña, the readers see Milo and his sister on the subway train to go visit his incarcerated mother. During the ride, Milo examines people and imagines their life based on what their appearance is. He learns that people that look different than him may not have that different of a life than him. In Milo Imagines the World, Matt de la Peña uses revealing actions, symbolism, and illustrations to show that people aren’t always what they seem, and it always shines light on racial stereotypes.

One of the techniques the author used in the book was the use of Revealing Actions. This is probably one of the more obvious techniques seen. Milo’s drawings slowly change his perspective on people, and it’s noticeable when you think about it. After he imagines the breakers experiencing microaggressions based on the way they look, he wonders how people think of him. This book uses the topic of cultural stereotypes to educate the reader on why you shouldn’t assume how people are or act because of the way they look. One part in this book is when after Milo wonders what people think when they see him, he reimagines everyone’s life. It helps him realize that you can’t assume everything about everyone just on how they look. After Milo sees somebody who he thought was nothing like him, he learns that he was actually not really that different from him. He thought this kid with his clean Nike’s that looked untouched could never be like him, until he sees him in line to go visit the jail and somebody who is incarcerated.

A craft technique that the author used that took a bit more work to uncover was the symbolism used. The sketchbook that Milo has symbolizes him, and his character. It also symbolizes what goes through his mind, and in a way, it symbolizes change. All of his drawings he makes about these people that he changes after realizing that what he does to other people, people do to him too. It helps him open his mind, and realize that at the end of the day everyone’s human. The drawings he makes for his mom when she’s in jail really help you understand that he’s just a kid with a very imaginative mind. A reader might believe that the overall effect of Milo Imagines the World is about jealousy, and how Milo thinks everyone’s life is better than his. While that may be true for that reader, I believe that the overall effect has to be that people aren’t always what they seem because of the illustrations used throughout the story, as well as the scene where Milo looks in his reflection and wonders what people think about when they see his face.

  30. (part two)
A final craft move that Robin Benway used to show the connections between cultural stereotypes and how people aren’t always what they seem was the illustrations. The illustrations show everything about what goes through Milo’s mind. The illustrations show Milo’s perspective on people’s life, and how his mind adapts and realizes that he wouldn’t like it if people assumed what he is like because of how he looks. The illustrations of the breakers being watched at stores and given weird and uncomfortable looks when they enter the rich neighborhood ties into the cultural stereotype part. The breakers, in which ⅔ of them are black, experience prejudice. They experience racial profiling while they are in the tech part of a store. Milo, who is also black, realizes that he would not want this done to him. Although that’s not what he assumed of the breakers, he understands that that's what he was doing to other people, and that’s what people will do to him. He assumed that they experienced this racial profiling and prejudice because that was the racial stereotype set. The illustrations really carry the effect the author wanted to put out with this story.

Matt de la Peña, author of Milo Imagines the World, created the overall effect that people aren’t always what they seem using revealing actions, symbolism, and illustrations. First, Peña showed revealing actions with Milo realizing that he would not want people to assume how he is because of his appearance, and how he may not be how he seems to others. Next, the craft move of symbolism was used. The sketchbook gives you a look inside Milo’s thoughts Finally, Matt de la Peña employed illustrations, the illustrations carried the story and put the final touches on the story. Matt de la Peña successfully used revealing actions, symbolism, and illustrations to make the reader feel the effect of people aren’t always what they seem, as well as tying it in with racial stereotype.

  31. Everyone should keep trying until they succeed in life. In Trying by Kobi Yamada a little boy sees a old man making a sculpture and asked, ¨How do I do that?¨ He kept on trying, but failed each time. After the old man passed h passed on the cave and his sculptures to the little boy. One day a little girl walked in and said¨How do I do that?¨
The boys thoughts bring him down but the old sculptor. keeps him up. He wanted to learn how to sculpt. He tried and failed. In his mind he thought he would never be able to do it. But the old man believed in him. Once became a great sculptor his mindset ws fine and for any people he taught he knew he went through the same thing that they are going through and how they did not believe in themselves.
From the boys point of view he was a crappy sculptor. He thought he could never become a sculptor no matter how hard he tried. But the only thing old sculptor saw in the boy was potential. He knew if the boy tried hard enough he could become a sculptor.
The symbol in the story is the sculptures. The sculpture symbolize progress and how much closer he was to becoming a great sculptor. Each sculpture he made he saw progress but still thought we would always be no good. But each sculpture he made the man was getting more proud of him because of how well he was advancing

  32. All human beings need to be kind to each other We all want to fit in like other people In the book New Kid, by jerry craft, the readers see kindness and bullying. The main point in the book is some people like to show how they feel by drawing it on a piece of paper. Another point is people also help others by showing actions to help others through what they are going through. The final point is symbolism because most kids have something they love to bring around with them.

When he first went to his new school he was scared. But he didn't say anything to his mom or dad. A kid was being mean to another kid that called him Oreo, Jordan didn’t know what that meant but Liam did (it means that he is white on the inside and black on the outside.) When he was playing soccer his mom was cheering for him and he just wanted her to stop embarrassing him. When the weird girl in their grade came up to him he got scared because he didn't know what she was gonna say but she just offered him her umbrella.

One of his illustrations was when he first went back to school showing many kids being scared of school supplies. Another time was when a kid got kicked out of school because he is on financial aid because he went on vacation to Hawaii with another kid so the school didn't like that so much. Another time was when people were judging other kids by what they looked like that.

Some actions in the book are when a kid pushes his best friend and so his friend pushed him back and he slips on an apple, the teacher saw it happen so she came over and was about to send him to the principal but Liam stood up and said what really happened and the other kids stood up and said what happened and it only got a homeroom taken away. Another action is when he is playing soccer and he scored a goal with his face and his whole team was thrilled that happened and they said they won but they actually lost by 10 points. Another action was when a girl was being bullied due to having a puppet on her arm. She told him what had happened to her, so he told the gossip girl in the school and she told everyone. So after that, they stopped bullying her

Jerry Craft, the author of New Kid, created the overall effect of bullying and friendship using inner thinking, illustration, and symbolism. First, Craft shows inner thinking, the reason it is inner thinking is because he knew what was happening and all of his friends didn't know. Next, the illustration's craft move was used to show how he was feeling. Another reason is that he likes to show what he is thinking about. Finally, symbolism is employed in his notebook. By him drawing in his notebook every time something happens to him.

  33. Most teenages love drama. We need to feel like what's going on. One of the biggest Feelings is Teenages Love. We all want Some Teenage love/Drama in our life but because of that it causes Drama. That is an issue for us middle schoolers.
All Human beings need to Feel like they know all the tea. We all want to feel like we are in the group that knows what's happening. In the book drama, by Raina Telgemeier, The readers see how teenage love creates drama. In the Drama the readers see. Some of the main points in my Something like In the book Callie is walking home with her friends Greg and Matt who were also brothers where she confesses her feelings for Greg and Greg was a baseball player and one of her best friends. Callie in the book was really instead in tether that what she loved to do but she never really was in it. Callie was backstage staff. But Greg didn't really feel instructed in Callie, But truly I think that Callie just wanted to find someone that she actually connected with. There was this boy that Callie was interested in getting to this boy named Justin, but when she was just getting to know Justin, Him and Callie went for a chat and Justin shared that he was more into boys. Callie was shook and Justin didn't know that Callie had a little crush on him. But Callie was very supportive.
In Drama Raina Telgemeier uses Symbolism and Illustrations and Characters Actions. Raina Telgemeier of drama created the overall effect of teenage love using Symbolism, Character actions and illustrations
First, Telgemeier showed teenage love with Symbolism, my symbolism I choose Love/Heart because in the book i can see that there are a lot of hearts near the charters words I feel like that made a sigh of what the book really meant like the book was about teenage love bt what I also think that this book could be about friendship.
Next, the craft move of character actions was used. Callie would really be an example because in the book it shows how she kissed Greg callies Best friend's older brother. Callie the next day went up to greg in lunch because she was looking for him she called out his name saying his shouting his name greg got a little shocked because he was with his friends so Greg and Callie went out f the room so greg told callie that bonnie and then that they were back together and that he was sorry to just think that it was something serious Callie felt a little embarrassed when that happened.
Finally, Raina T employed illustrations. The illustrations in my book really showed what the book really meant and because it just gave the idea of what the book was about. But my main focus was Callie how every time she feels a sigh of love there would be some kind of heart. Callie gets this feeling like she would butterflies in her stomach. Riana T successfully used Symbolilms, Characters actions and illustrations to make the reader feel more understanding of what teenage love is.

  34. James Dashner the author of ‘The Maze Runner,’ uses character actions, thoughts; and symbolism to show why you should never stop trying even when it gets hard.
“If you ain't scared… you ain't human.” This quote shows that no matter how hard something is they will always try to overcome those obstacle that stand in your way; and with a burning passion. This really also shows that when you try to accomplish a goal there will always be something standing between you and that goal. For instance, the fear of going out into the maze, and the fear of not knowing what's going to happen next; or what's awaiting you in the future. These are all fears that approach the reader concluding from the character thoughts.
The symbol is the maze itself. Because the maze represents the struggles and hardships they go through. Whenever the maze comes up throughout the book, a big event; usually a struggle, is represented as another obstacle. You can see in the book whenever they talk about family this comes to be as an obstacle that they have to overcome.
“He refused to finish the thought. He couldn’t leave Alby behind.” The grievers were rolling in; and Alby had been stung. No matter the obstacle, even if it meant risking his own life to save his friend, he was willing to overcome anything.

In conclusion the overall effect of the book, “Maze Runner’ written by; James Dashner, shows why you should never stop trying even when it gets hard. A world exposed to disease, murder, power, full dictated control, and the lasting effect of loss and grief. All obstacles that have been shown throughout the book. And yet with it all its just showing how far some are willing to overcome. Especially for those who we love.
