People need to understand the struggles of other people in certain situations and rough times. In “Storm” Virginia Bergin makes you follow a 15 year old girl named Ruby Morris that is trying to survive an apocalypse. In Ruby’s world any water she touches or drinks can kill her. This doesn’t stop her from trying to live the life of a normal teenager at the time. Ruby explores and tries to survive meeting people on the way she would have never talked to in her normal life. In “Storm” Virginia Bergin uses perspective to symbolize sympathy or understanding others hardships.
In Storm, Virginia Bergin uses tone to make the feeling as if you are reading something written by Ruby herself. The book shows inner thoughts that are going through Ruby’s head at the time that are very well expressed. Bergin expresses Ruby’s emotions and feelings in and out of her head in very good detail. The Novel is written as if it was a diary of a typical teenage girl trying to survive day by day in highschool. This shows that Ruby is trying to just survive the apocalypse and record everything by writing her Journal, so anybody that reads it can learn and understand her struggles. Although this could be taken as her just trying to take her mind off of everything that is happening around her, this is not the case because she commemorates and mourn her parents which is something that would stress her out even more.
Virginia Bergin uses perspective to portray the adventures of Ruby very well. Some of the parts that are journaled by Ruby are in 1st person, to portray how she saw them, this effect made you feel as if you were Ruby and experience what she experienced. In other parts where something was happening Ruby narrated it as if it was 3rd person, to give a better idea as if what was happening and the setting at the time to give the full immersive effect of the book. This change of perspective can be interpreted as if it would just be a boring book if it was only 1st person, but because of the specific times where it happened it actually was meant to add to the story since remembering things she had to deal with would actually give her more stress.
Another craft moved used throughout the whole book was symbolism. It was represented in the first edition of the book H2O with a butterfly. The butterfly was used to censor the slur words that Ruby and other people used to commemorate her respect to her mother and her no swearing rules. In Storm the symbolism changes from a butterfly to a black droplet splatter, representing the deadly water. This can be taken as Ruby not wanting to keep drawing butterflies no more but actually it represents her losing hope in surviving since all she can think about is the deadly water everywhere and not the butterfly which is a symbol of happiness and calmness.
Virginia Bergin makes it clear in her writing she wants you to feel as if you are Ruby Morris throughout the book. Making you feel all the emotions she felt through her eyes. The book makes the reader compare their life with Ruby and feel sympathy for her because of her hardships. This said, it depends on the reader to decide. Does the book represent being grateful for the life they have or to understand other people's situations?
“Speak up for yourself, others want to know what you have to say.” Everybody needs to believe that things will get better. Mainly teenagers, even when they’re going through rough times. The author used her artwork combined with her story to create an expression of what it feels like to have your voice stolen from you. In “Speak” A girl named Melinda went to a party and something very traumatic happened to where she had to call the police. Everyone at that party scattered screaming and running. After that night her life and personality changed dramatically. She became an outcast because of what happened, and nobody will talk to her, let alone listen. In this book “Speak”, the author Anderson Carroll uses craft moves dialogue, inner thoughts, and illustration to create an overall effect of sadness and depression.
The author used this book to display Melinda’s dialogue through 1st person view. All of Melinda’s inner thoughts were expressed vividly through the dialogue of the book. At the beginning of this book, she goes to school sad and pushed around. She has no one to count on, until she meets someone new, Heather. She’s a sweet girl but has two sides to her. After a while, she chooses the popular girls over Melinda and is left with no one. Once Heather leaves Melinda’s depression gets worse. But she joins art and her art teacher notices something about her, that she’s different. Shes assigned an art project, and she gets assigned a tree. This tree symbolizes Melinda’s emotions, thoughts, and feelings.
Melinda had a lot of feelings and emotions that she didn’t feel comfortable sharing with her parents, teachers or friends. Melinda’s inner thoughts get pretty dark, and for some people very relatable. She used to be a very bubbly little girl, playing outside with her parents by an apple tree. When she used to smile and speak her thoughts, and now they pile up until she can’t take it anymore. Until one day she screams so loud your eardrums would burst and your face would drop in terror. “ I want to confess everything, hand over the guilt and mistake the anger to someone else. There’s a beast in my gut, scraping away at the inside of my ribs.” The kind of pain she feels is terrible, like shes slowly breaking down inside. After Heather dropped her as a friend she gave her the other half of her friendship necklace. When seeing it she feels something crack inside her. Her ribs feel like there collapsing, a piercing in her lungs. That’s only some of the pain she feels. That’s the anger that piles up inside of her because she doesn’t let it out, she stays silent. And she continues to stay silent.
The version I read of “Speak” is a graphic novel. So there were many pictures, as the symbolic tree on the cover. The tree symbolizes Melinda; dead, broken, hollow on the inside, dried out, no point to being there. In a part in the book, Melinda looked in the mirror and wipes her face with a towel. All she sees in the mirror is her face with no eyes, mouth, or nose, just nothing. Her face is like a blank white piece of paper. That’s how she feels, blank.
This book is very emotional, also very painful. But that’s what makes a book a good book, right? “Speak” used the craft moves inner thought, emotions, and dialogue to create an overall effect of sadness and depression. And “Speak used these craft moves very well, with so many details. The tree was one of the main parts in this story, it showed the people reading the book, and the people around Melinda how she felt. The emotion showed in this book still amazes me today. ¨Speak¨ has breathtaking illustrations and dialogue, and it was overall my most favorite I’ve ever read.
Everyone has their own opinions and lives. If we were more empathetic, there would be less conflicts in our world. In Two Can Keep A Secret by Karen M. McManns, two twins, Ellery and Ezra, move from California to the New England states away from their addict mom. Ellery finds out about the past of the town called Echo Ridge, prom queens that have gone missing. Then, another girl happens to go missing, and Ellery and her friends attempt to get to the bottom of this Echo Ridge past. As you read this book, Karen M. McManns uses building suspense, symbolism, and multiple perspectives to reveal the effect of Empathy.
One of the author’s craft techniques is building suspense. The author has many examples of building suspense, and one of them is that she made the suspensful parts in great detail. This shows how empathetic the book is. When the suspenseful parts occur, it makes you feel like you are in the story. It could be argued to be suspense or curiosity, but it’s clearly empathy, because the detail makes you feel like you’re in the story. This is only one of the craft techniques the author uses.
Another technique the author uses is symbolism. There are many symbols in the story, but there is one main symbol that connects to the effect. Ellery has a necklace that she wears all the time. It has a little dagger charm on it, and it represents her love for crime. Her mother that she moved away from gave it to her. This relates to empathy, because most people can connect with this. Someone could have given you something that really means a lot to you, and everytime you touch it or look at it, it reminds you of something. This represents how symbolism is used to create the effect of empathy.
The final technique is multiple perspectives. The author switched the narrator between the two main characters, Malcom and Ellery. When the author switches back and forth, you get both sides of the character’s stories. You also get to feel how both of the character’s feel.
This book can make you feel empathetic, but if you can take that empathy from the book to the real world, our world could really have a change. Your empathy can make a difference. This is why I think that Karen M. McManns uses building suspense, symbolism, and multiple perspectives to show empathy. I think she wanted to show us how to be empathetic, so then we could understand how to be empathetic in the real world.
It is important for authors to use techniques to make us feel on edge because that gets readers more connected to their books. In “The Hundred Lies Of Lizzie Lovett” Hawthorne is a lonely high schooler. She has one friend and she sits behind the cafeteria at lunch. When Lizzie Lovett goes missing she’s determined that she has turned into a werewolf, it’s her time to prove everyone wrong. In the hundred lies of Lizzie Lovett the author uses suspense, anger, and sadness to make the readers feel on edge.
One of the most obvious craft moves in the story was the use of suspense. The whole story “The Hundred Lies of Lizzie Lovett” is in a suspenseful mood. The main mystery in the book was that Lizzie Lovett was missing. When Hawthorne and Enzo were looking for Lizzie the werewolf, they found a farmhouse that had looked abandoned and they went inside. The whole time they were walking around the house readers may have felt suspense but especially when someone was walking up the stairs from the basement and they needed to find a way to get out. Some Readers may think that the Chelsea Sedoti is including suspense to just add an effect on the book but it is clearly more.
While Hawthorne was working at The Sunshine Cafe after Lizzie had been found, her rival Mychelle walked in with Enzo. Enzo was someone who Hawthorne had thought she could trust. This may make the readers feel anger for Hawthorne because she trusted Enzo and he betrayed her by hanging out/dating her school rival. This also might make the readers sympathy for her because Enzo hadn’t even given Hawthorne the clarification she needed to know if she and Enzo were completely over. This may make the readers feel on edge because they feel angry for her. Some readers may think Chelsea Sedoti added this part of the story so the readers felt sympathy for Enzo not Hawthorne but it’s clearly directed at Hawthorne.
When Hawthorne had her mind set on “Lizzie’s not dead she’s a werewolf” it was very sad to read about her struggling after she found out what had really happened to Lizzie. The readers may feel on edge when Enzo ditched her multiple times and left her at the end without an explanation. Readers may think that Chelsea Sedoti included these parts to show Hawthorne was getting too attached to Enzo and didn’t give him enough space but Enzo was clearly in the wrong.
In The hundred lies of Lizzie Lovett the author uses suspense, anger and sadness to make the readers feel on edge. Feeling on edge makes a book much more interesting and it makes you want to keep reading. Feeling on edge is what made my book “The Hundred Lies Of Lizzie Lovett” more interesting and I recommend it for others.
Everyone in their life is having issues, even when they grow up. It’s about where jarrete’s mom gets taken away from him. Jarrete mom was taken away so now he lives with grandma and grandpa until his mom comes back from prison.
Illustrations show the mood because in the pictures Jarrete is crying because he misses his mom where he can't stop thinking about her. He cheers up for a little bit then he goes back to sad. The mood is sadness because his mom gets taken away.
Action (what i feel and the reader, empathy): The saddest part in the book is when the mom can’t leave she stays. She can only see her kid for about 5 or 3 minutes, she gets taken away and then when he’s done getting sad he turns happy. The mood is sadness because in the beginning he can’t see his mom for days or years.
Images: In the picture Jarrete cries he can’t see his mom for a while or a very long time. When he turns sad he thinks happy when Jarrete grows up he doesn't like his mom anymore he worries about dawling. The mood is sad and happy because in the beginning he misses his mom then he gets over her and starts being happy with drawing until his mom comes in he says I don't wanna see her.
What Jarrete feels, I kinda feel the same way only in sad ways, But when they are happy I don’t care.
Everyone in life needs to understand that reading is good because it can be helpful sometimes. In Charlie Joe Jackson’s guide to NOT Reading, Tommy Greenwald uses tips, inner thoughts, and actions to convince the readers to read. And that it can be helpful sometimes and help you get through things.
One of the first craft techniques in the book was the tips that he lists throughout the story. The author from Charlie Joe Jackson’s Guide to NOT Reading uses different tips to explain what happens if you read and what happens if you don’t read. He added over 20 tips to get your attention. Tip number 8 says that “ Not all books are bad”. That’s true because everyone doesn’t have the same mind and doesn’t think the same when it comes to reading books. My opinion is that you can hate reading but it’s good for your brain and to help you get better at it. Tip number 12 says that “ The library can be your friend”. My opinion is that it can be your friend if you love to read. Not everyone likes to read in the library, some people like to read elsewhere.
Another craft technique the author uses that took a bit more time to uncover was the actions. Each action showed a unique way that deals with Charlie and how he got away with not reading. One action was that he cried in front of his mom so he couldn’t read and he said it worked. My opinion is that you don’t have to cry just to not read. Even though you can dislike reading, you should still at least try to read once. Another action was that Charlie lets Tommy McGibney cover his reading for him for school. Charlie hasn’t read an entire book from cover to back a day in his life and I think he should try to read a whole book.
A final craft move was the inner thoughts. Charlie was concerned about Emily when she won the lottery. Winning the lottery is really big and seeing Charlie concerned about her winning the lottery makes me think that he cares about her. Charlie lies to his mom that he has been reading his books, but it was Timmy who’s been reading them. My thought on that was that Timmy should’ve just did what was right and told Charlie no. When Charlie’s mom finds out that Timmy has been reading his books, Charlie gets grounded, and he gets his phone taken, and he can't watch tv.
As a reader I don’t always like reading but I get the point of this book. You have to like reading but you should read for better knowledge.
Everyone has hard times and they can really hurt sometimes, but in the end, you have to move on and push through the hard times. Bobby Byington just wants to play varsity basketball for the first time ever and be the star that he actually is. With his family getting through the aftermath of his dad’s alcohol addiction, his girlfriend getting bullied and his best friend having a hard time with his parents he really needs to be strong to get through. In No More No Name, Tim Tingle uses flashbacks, empathy and has us make predictions on what is going to happen next to create the goal of being strong.,
One of the first ways that the author helped me see strength in my book was through flashbacks. First, at the beginning of the book on the second page, they talk about the day that Bobby crashed into a lake and almost drown. After this flashback, the author brings you back to the time Bobby is coming back to his team and playing what he loves finally again to show his love for basketball and to show that he can get through hard times to do what he loves. Next after that practice, Bobby goes home and walks into the house. At this point, they bring you to when dad was an abusive, alcoholic and the bad times of his family. Then Bobby finally gets in his house and gets greeted by his friendly, humorous father that is different than what he used to be. Finally, at the concluding part of the book, dad tells Bobby a story of how his dad used to abuse alcohol himself. “You’ll be sorry you ever did this” Grandpa said. Then he balled his fist leaned back, and hit me in the jaw. This finally tells the reader that you can get through hard times, and be strong with yourself.
The next way that the author helped us see the overall goal of strength is by making us feel empathy, and sadness for the characters. After basketball practice, Bobby goes up to his girlfriend that was outside of the school. He could tell that his girlfriend was sad so he asked why, and she told him that the other girls at school make fun of her and push, and shove her because she’s a “nerd”. The next day at the beginning of practice Lloyd’s dad, the assistant coach freaked out that his son wasn’t starting over Bobby. His dad screamed, and threw a chair and threatened him. After this part, Lloyd apologized while they were cleaning up the mess that his dad had made. This also helps show the effect, because Lloyd and Bobby become best friends and help each other through a lot of problems. To go with this Bobby helps Lloyd through his dad’s alcohol addiction. He helped him because he was strong and he had the strength of his own personal challenges.
Lastly, the author of the book No More No name used predictions, and cliff hanger to help us figure out what will happen, and create drama and show that people can get through bad things. First is the text that they use when Bobby’s basketball team is finally coming back to basketball with their new add on of Bobby. They keep the game fairly close most of the time, but they also have Bobby score when he gets into the game to make the game seem that Bobby is the reason they won. Later in the game shout starts to erupt, and people crowd around. The game stops and people wonder what is going on, and that’s when the players realize who it is. Lloyd and Bobby’s girlfriends were fighting and they are in trouble. Finally, about an hour after the game the team is celebrating their much-earned win and everyone was celebrating until the car zooms past, and the lights come next. Lloyd’s dad was in a drunk car chase and Lloyd really needed to stand up, and be the friend that he is. While this section could be read as giving empathy to others it really shows how you have to be strong to get through the hard times. Bobby showed this by always keeping his head up, and always thinking of his friends and family before himself.
In No More No Name, Tim Tingle used flashbacks, empathy, and predictions on what will happen to show the overall goal of strength. Bobby had so many problems that he had to deal with, and he got overwhelmed at points, but he pushed through. He learned new things about certain people that he didn’t know and pushed his limits. While striving to make everyone else happy he made himself happy and found the strength to push through for his friends and family.
Orbiting Jupiter People are always going through changes in their life, sometimes change can really mess you up, but it’s important to always stay positive during your change. In the book Orbiting Jupiter, there is a foster family that decides to adopt a troubled boy named Joseph. Joseph was not always bad, but when he found out that he wasn’t able to see the love of his life anymore, he changed. Joseph started failing in school, he had stopped caring about everyone, one day he went to the bathroom and a student gave him a yellow pill that he took, and he passed out in the stall, when his teacher later found him, he tried to kill them, because of this action Joseph was sent to Stone Mountain.
One of the most obvious author’s craft techniques in Orbiting Jupiter was the use of Flashbacks. The author of Orbiting Jupiter used flashbacks to show how Joseph was in love and how he would do anything to see his girlfriend Maddie. Joseph would walk 7 miles everyday to see Maddie, except on the weekends because that’s when her parents were home. Both of Maddie’s parents were Lawyers so they weren’t home very often. Everytime Joseph went to see Maddie they would walk through the garden, they would watch some movies, Maddie showed Joseph how to play tennis on a clay court, and just before he left he jumped into the pool with all his clothes on, so he could stay warm. This Flashback helped create suspense by wondering what might happen to Joseph and Maddie if they get caught.
Another author's craft technique that I discovered was a first person narrative. In Orbiting Jupiter, the story is told from one perspective, the story is told through the eyes of a young boy named Jack, Jack talks about his with Joseph and how it has its ups and downs, Jack and Joseph have a few classes together, but one day after gym class Jay Perkins, Brian Boss, and Nick Porter decide to fight Joseph. When Jack finds out he goes rushing to the locker room, and he sees Jay Perkins on the ground with a bloody nose and Brian Boss and Nick Porter are slamming Joseph into the lockers, once Jay Perkins gets up, Jack decides to ram into him which sends Jay Perkins into the lockers again, then Joseph kicks Nick Porter in the groin and punches Brian Boss straight in the nose, then the substitute teacher runs into the locker room. This material shown in Orbiting Jupiter shows how the author uses suspense to create the theme, and how the author left you wondering what happened after the fight.
A final craft move that Gary D. Schmidt used was Building Suspense, in Orbiting Jupiter, there were many parts in the story that build suspense, one example that the author used was when Joseph found out where his daughter Jupiter lived, and decided to go and find her. The author did this to leave the reader wondering what will happen to Joseph, or when will he return to his foster home, or what most people wonder. Will he find his daughter? The author did this on purpose to show what Jack and his family did and how they didn’t give up until they found Joseph. While Jack and his family decide to go looking for Joseph they ask many people and search in many buildings, but eventually Jack becomes freezing cold because he’d been outside for a few hours, so he decides to stop by the library, and ask if they’ve seen him, Jack ask one of the librarians and it turns out that she had been taking care of Jupiter, and she refused to take Jack to see Jupiter, so he left, but as Jack was the lady got a from her husband. The lady’s husband said that Joseph had been pacing back and forth in front of their house, the lady immediately blamed Jack, but after a few minutes of arguing the women decided to take Jack to her home, and once they arrived there was Joseph standing in the grass staring at the house. The women got out and talked to Joseph for what felt like hours, but she got Joseph to calm down, the women gave Joseph a picture of Jupiter and he stopped completely. The women walked him over to her car and drove Joseph and Jack to their parents who took them home.
Joseph didn’t talk about what happened, for the next few weeks Joseph hardly talked at all, until one day a car pulled into the driveway, and Jack and his father went to greet the stranger while Joseph hid in the barn, the man was asking where Joseph was and why he wasn’t coming out to greet his own father, Joseph later came out and his father told him that he was going home with him, but Joseph refused, this made his father angry, so he grabbed Jack by the arm and threatened to hurt him. Joseph tells him to stop and says he’ll go with him if he lets Jack go, so Joseph gets in the car with his dad and they drove off going very fast, Mr. Canton, the school principal was driving home, when he turned on First Congregational and saw the White Pickup coming towards him. He braked, skidded on the ice into the middle of the road. Joseph’s father hit him square on and sent him flying into some trees, and Joseph and his father kept going. He turned into First Congregational. Drove past the bridge out sign and didn’t even make it half way. The Bridge collapsed, and it took about two days until they were able to find and get the pickup out of the river. Mr. Canton opened the door on Joseph’s side and Jack's father carried Joseph out.
Shmidt used character actions to show us how a young kid with a troubled life will do anything just to see the love of his life, and how her won’t stop until he finds that love that he lost. In Orbiting Jupiter Joseph decides to run away which at the moment didn’t seem like a good idea, but in the end he got a picture of his baby Jupiter, and he e got a picture of his baby Jupiter, and he later went home and everyday got a letter from Jupiters care taker. In the end Joseph’s plan to run away ended up working out, even after everyone in his foster family told him that it wasn’t a good idea.
“The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian” by Sherman Alexie is about a boy named Junior and his struggles. He was born on the Spokane Indian Reservation, but he never really felt full Indian. He wants to make the most out of his life and was bullied throughout the story. He switches to an all-white school to pursue his dreams. Throughout the book Junior has many typical struggles like a typical teenager. He also has some struggles other people don’t have like deciding if he is half-Indian or half-white. This book demonstrates the overall effect of empathy, through the tone, dialogue, and the first person narration.
At the beginning of the story, Sherman Alexie uses more of a depressing tone. On page 15 he wrote “ I was so depressed that I thought about crawling into a hole and disappearing forever.” This tells me that he was very upset. On page 40 he wrote “I suppose he is depressed, my sister is depressed, the whole family is depressed.” This tells me that he is not in a mental state of well being. Towards the middle of the story, his tone changes once Junior finds some happiness in the all-white school. The tone changes throughout the story, but you can tell that things are slowly getting better for him. He makes the varsity basketball and is well-liked at the white school. He has a lot of empathy for others including his best friend Rowdy, his sister, grandma, teacher, coach, and even his parents. He is doing what is right for him, but will always care for the tribe.
The author uses dialogue to create the effect of empathy. On page 40 he wrote, “ You’re a bright and shining star, too. You’re the smartest kid in the school. And I don’t want you to fail. I don’t want you to fade away. You deserve better.” This shows the empathy Mr. P had for Junior and it helped him realize he was so great that he should do better for himself. Another example is on page 207, he wrote “I reached out, wiped the tears off my fathers face, and tasted them. Salty. I love you. I love you, too” Although his father was always drunk they still had empathy for one another.
The author writes the story using first person narration. This craft has the effect of empathy because Junior is able to show how he feels and acts throughout the entire story. He tells how he feels about others such as the love for his grandmother, Rowdy, and his sister. Some may argue that the effect of the author’s craft is actually friendship. I believe this is only part of the story. For example, the friendship between Junior and Rowdy is very important, but the whole effect is actually empathy toward others and for oneself. It shows how he feels about himself. Early in the story he doesn’t like himself and he struggles on the reservation. In the middle of the story he begins to find happiness and he starts to like himself. By the end of the story he knows who he is and he likes himself. Throughout the entire story Junior shows empathy toward others, especially those that do not do him wrong.
In conclusion, I can relate to Junior in the middle of the story. I have some of his same feelings. I question when in life is a person happy and empathetic towards themself.
“Miles Moras,Spide-man” Is a book about brotherhood and showing what brotherhood is like between miles and ganke.what makes this book unique is the setting and the plot of this book. The setting takes place in the busy brooklyn streets.
The first way Jayson Reynold shows that friendship can be through brotherhood is by showing Ganke and Miles acting like brothers. Reynold’s shows this by explaining them doing simple things like going to each other’s house for long periods of time.some other things that they would do is eat dinner with their families the last thing that reynolds would do is show them showering at each other’s house or doing normal things that you'd typically do at a relatives house. Another example that Reynolds used was showing miles and Ganke playing pickup games to make easy money.
The last thing Reynolds used to show theme was Dialogue. In the book “Miles morales spiderman” the dialogue between ganke and miles was pretty basic they would call each other their brother or best friend. They also would talk to each other and have normal conversation like normal people.
At the end of this story the author made me feel that friendship can be more than just that it can mean ¨brotherhood”that's what the author did in this story by showing miles and ganke being best friends but acting and treating each other like brothers. I would recommend this book to anybody who likes action and a quick read.
Storm
ReplyDeletePeople need to understand the struggles of other people in certain situations and rough times.

ReplyDeleteOne of the author’s craft techniques is building suspense.
ReplyDeleteOne of the most obvious craft moves in the story was the use of suspense.
ReplyDeleteIllustrations show the mood because in the pictures Jarrete is crying because he misses his mom where he can't stop thinking about her.
ReplyDeleteOne of the first craft techniques in the book was the tips that he lists throughout the story.
In No More No Name, Tim Tingle uses flashbacks, empathy and has us make predictions on what is going to happen next to create the goal of being strong.,
ReplyDeleteOne of the first ways that the author helped me see strength in my book was through flashbacks.
ReplyDeleteIn No More No Name, Tim Tingle used flashbacks, empathy, and predictions on what will happen to show the overall goal of strength. Bobby had so many problems that he had to deal with, and he got overwhelmed at points, but he pushed through. He learned new things about certain people that he didn’t know and pushed his limits. While striving to make everyone else happy he made himself happy and found the strength to push through for his friends and family.
Orbiting Jupiter
ReplyDeletePeople are always going through changes in their life, sometimes change can really mess you up, but it’s important to always stay positive during your change.
ReplyDeleteJoseph didn’t talk about what happened, for the next few weeks Joseph hardly talked at all, until one day a car pulled into the driveway, and Jack and his father went to greet the stranger while Joseph hid in the barn, the man was asking where Joseph was and why he wasn’t coming out to greet his own father, Joseph later came out and his father told him that he was going home with him, but Joseph refused, this made his father angry, so he grabbed Jack by the arm and threatened to hurt him.
ReplyDeleteAt the beginning of the story, Sherman Alexie uses more of a depressing tone.
ReplyDeleteThe first way Jayson Reynold shows that friendship can be through brotherhood is by showing Ganke and Miles acting like brothers.
