CNN and the authors said there were 17 school shootings from january 1st to march 24th that’s an average of 1.4 school shootings a week. England has taken away all guns and they have one of the least amount of deaths in the world. A discussion in whether it is mental illnesses or the guns and there is no doubt that it is guns. Other ways to stop it don’t work all the time and some fail leading to deaths of innocent kids, but doing this minimizes it heavily and it will wipe it out completely. The only concrete way to stop school shootings is to take away every gun in america Taking away all the guns in the US would decrease heavily of school shootings and gun related violence in America. This would take every single gun away in America, only having government approved people having them people of the law. Police would carry batons instead of guns. Focusing on children's safety in school, gun related deaths would be minimized. It is hard for a country this size but, England has already done this and they are one of the countries with the least amount of gun deaths a year and most people who die from this are people out of school. So the hardest but easiest thing to stop school violence would be to take away guns in America. England has found a way to stop most gun violence related deaths by taking away all guns and this needs to happen in the U.S. or tragic school shootings won’t stop. Comparing this situation to England, there is only 36 guns deaths in England in one year. In US schools 7 kids die on average by guns every day. 13,000 innocent lives die from guns a year, size divided to the same amount that England's population would be about 2,6000 divided down to England's population. Students have taken to the street about this demanding gun control and nothing has been done. A big discussion is whether it is mental illnesses or guns and it is guns. People with mental illnesses account for not all the school shootings. In the mass shootings a psychiatrist said “Only 52 out of the 235 killers in the database, or 22 percent, had mental illnesses.” So trying to help kids with this wouldn’t stop all of these deaths from guns it would stop a few but there are still kids dying because of it, it still so easy to get a gun and there are barely any ways to stop people from getting guns. There is not reason anyone should have an automatic weapon in our society what use would it benefit us in a whole. All in all I used to think we needed to improve infrastructure and an way to make kids improve mental health and like school, but those ways seen like they would work and sometimes they do, but then sometimes it doesn’t work and innocent kids pay the price because an unreliable security guard in Florida did what he wasn’t supposed to and hid outside while students were in trouble. This wouldn’t have happened if there were just no guns all together and this would stop. Innocent lives will keep dieing if there is no gun control in america to stop this from happening.
School shootings happen very often around 1.4 times a week as said on CNN by Saeed Ahmed and Christina walker but that means that school shootings happen 1.4 more times a week then they should this question troubles many people but like every question, there’s a solution and I feel that solution is school cameras. School safety, a common issue how to protect innocent student lives and stop crimes while many people's first thoughts were add security guards, arm teachers I found that those involved weapons, weapons that could potentially go against what we’re trying to solve so I went with an idea I thought would work better. An increase of school cameras they don’t involve anything that will harm anyone and they help watch the well being of the students.School cameras have proven to aid in the past and I think they can help now. School cameras have proved to indeed be helpful. Some statistics have shown that schools with increased cameras reduce crime rates and help protect schools. Some schools crime rates have gone down by 95% with increased cameras.Increased cameras also help protect the school.Cameras inside the school would help watch the students security and well being it could stop bullying and save students like it has before.Schools with cameras are also usually the ones with the lower crime rates. There are percentages and facts about how increased cameras have helped students but what about actual examples? One of the schools that have benefited from this is a school that was constantly suffering crime on campus until they suddenly had the great idea to put more cameras to watch over the school after they did that their percentage of crime went down by almost one hundred percent. Some protest have also gone on against more school cameras, students say they don’t want to be watched` kids protested because their school said it was thinking about adding school cameras, why was the school thinking about this though? The school talked about how other neighboring schools had added cameras and how they were all schools that had low crime rates. Crimes happen daily against students and safety does have a price but this has become a problem but violence against more violence doesn't solve the problem.School safety has become a problem but like every problem this has a solution and I think school cameras are the solution we’re looking for.
´´We can´t stop an active shooter, but we can minimize the carnage¨, said John Scheu, the superintendent in Ohio of Sidney city schools. In 2018 there has already been 17 school shootings, and we are only ⅓ into the year. It has been proposed that a response team would be able to get to the threat quicker than the police could and minimize the number of people getting hurt or killed. Arming and training school staff is a functional answer to school shootings . A group of volunteers, called the response team would respond to an armed intruder . The response team could be made up of teachers, principals, custodians, and secretaries. Getting to their firearms would take less than a minute . The team of staff that volunteers will receive specialized training that includes firearm safety, unarmed defensive tactics and basic gunshot first aid. Additionally, members of the group would attend a concealed weapons course and monthly trainings of either firing range practice or simulations in the school. Lastly, the group of volunteers would receive bonuses for all their hard work and practices to help keep our schools safe. After the armed intruder makes their first shot, it is estimated that someone dies or gets hurt every 17 seconds. Because police take four to five minutes to arrive , a lot die or get injured. ´´Even in the best-case scenario, we could get here in four to five minutes´´,Sheriff Lenhart of shelby county said. ´´You do the math´´. A responder team would take less time to stop the intruder. Ten states already allow school staff to have firearms on school grounds. It helped take away fears of students, teachers, and parents about school shootings. The districts with armed staff spent about $70,000 on safes, bulletproof vests, cameras, guns, radios, and ammunition. An insurance policy to cover the staff would cost about $100,000 By having the response team, we will feel safer in school and the shooters will think twice. Other ideas have been brought up such as clear backpacks and police officers. Clear backpacks wouldn't work because the shooter could hide the gun elsewhere. The police officers would cost too much money. As a result, clearly arming school staff is the best idea.
According to CNN Saeed Ahmed and Christina Walker, there has been seventeen school shootings from january first to march twenty fourth this year, that's about 1.4 shooting each week. That's exactly why why we need police in schools. After all the only way to stop a bad guy with agun is a good guy with a gun. Just think of how much safer schools would be. The answer is simple put police in school. Having them in school will help kids in so many ways, one simple obvious way is how they can take down the bad person. The police can reduce bullying, fighting, and incidences of violence in the halls during passing time. Sometimes in the hallway there can be a distressed school students, the police can have instant help to get to that student so school can continue as normal for less interruptions. Also a lot of students are having a problem with staying inline, the police can help with that. They can make a relationship with students so the kids know what wrong, whats bad, and the students can learn to make the right decisions. Lastly security is very important they are trained for professional and effective handling of security devices, alarms and cameras. They will help us make the most out of them so the students and teachers are safe. Seventeen shootings, 1.4 a week is not what we want innocent kids going through. Kids shouldn't have to worry about being in danger just because they need a education. We need someone good to stop all the bad.
Part 1 April 20, 1999, 13 people died and over 20 wounded in what is now known as the Columbine shooting. Since then, there has been many more school shootings like Sandy Hook Elementary and recently at the Stoneman Douglas High School. I believe that schools would be much safer if we had a school liaison officer at our building during school hours. Some may ask, what is a school liaison officer? Let me tell you what a liaison officer is. A school liaison officer is an armed and trained officer at the school during school hours. A school liaison officer can be a officer for one school or for a district. Like in South Milwaukee there are 2 liaison officers, one for the middle school and another officer for the high school. These officers work at the school during school hours. The officers have many responsibilities like guidance to students, making students feel comfortable, and developing relationships with students. The liaison officers in South Milwaukee are almost like a friend who helps with serious problems and builds relationships with the kids. Know don’t you want to know what a liaison officer does? How a school liaison officer works is quite easy to describe. School liaison officers are at the school to give guidance to students, make students feel comfortable, build relationships with students, and help out with serious problems. The officer in Wisconsin Rapids helps making a safe environment for schools students, staff, and visitors. The officers work with students to build trust. The way liaison officers deal with students behavior varies from school to school. For example, a student that makes a bad decisions like vandalism would get consequences determined by their school and the liaison officer. In Wisconsin Rapids; “Students who choose illegal behaviors are held accountable by the PSLO through referrals to Social Service or citations.” The way Wisconsin Rapids handles illegal behaviors makes students want to do the right thing. Some may say a liaison officer doesn’t work, because they had a liaison officer at the school in Florida that had the school shooting. It still works because that is one school where it hasn’t worked; it has worked in many other places. If this isn’t enough to convince you, how about if you heard of where it has worked?
Part 2 Having a school liaison officer as the solution to school crimes is very good because it has worked in so many places including Baraboo, Ontario, Wisconsin Rapids, and Southern MIlwaukee. “Study shows placing liaison officers in some Ontario High Schools made students feel safer surveyed (Grade 9) teens who would have the least amount of exposure to the program.” Also, with a liaison officer in schools the vandalism and bullying rates went dramatically down. In South Milwaukee the officer gathers students in classrooms, halls, and small groups to talk about SMPD (The South Milwaukee Police Department) or regarding specific education issues. The officer also reminds students about everyday things like to walk in the halls. They also provide informal mediation when a discussion gets too noisy in the lunchroom. The school liaison officer in South Milwaukee can be involved in investigations for school rule violations. Depending on the crime the officer can talk to students involved in the crime and search those students’ lockers. While this is going on the officer is working with the district, so the officer must follow the same rules as the school principal. Or the crime might be South Milwaukee or State of Wisconsin ordinance/law violation, which would make it so there would be a ticket for the student. Whether it is giving tickets or build relationships these officers are helping prevent violence and crime. Overall, I think that having a liaison officer in school buildings during school hours is a great way to stop school violence. They do so many things for the students that make them feel safe at school; like give guidance to students, make students feel secure, build relationships with students, and help out with serious problems. It’s worked so many other places, why wouldn’t it work at our school?
As a student you would expect to wake up and assume that it’s going to be a great day. You expect to be safe, well at least that is what everyone used to think. Nowadays, us children wake up and the thought of an invader coming into our school and hurting our innocent loved ones’ is stuck in our heads. We have to have announcements and conversations about what to do, where to hide and where you should run during a school shooting. A school is where you learn and make memories. It is not the place for you to be scared or have to be anxious of what could happen in the next year, month, week, day or second. Students are already scared to come to school because of bullying, we don’t need to have kids scared of being a victim in a horrifying school shooting. Schools will become much safer when anti-bullying programs become more common and stronger. Bullying is the #1 reasons kids commit suicide. 48% of students 6-12 grade have experienced bullying. Which means almost half of the students in middle school and high school combined are experiencing bullying. Which is a problem because 75% of school shootings have been linked to bullying. Which shows that most students or intruders that shoot up schools are or have been bullied. So if our nation does more research and starts making anti-bullying programs more popular and known we could reduce school shootings by tons. 9% of 6-12 grade students have been cyberbullied, 30% of students have bullied someone and 48% of students have experienced bullying which means 87% of students know that bullying is going on in their school. The other 13% are either quiet bystanders or do not realize there is bullying going on. Except 70.6% of students say that they have seen bullying happening in their school. Which shows that we need more programs to show that students need to speak up and tell people about what they see, what they are experiencing and what they are doing. If a bystander confronts or interferes with a mean bully, the bullying stops in 10 seconds 57% of the time. So, with all of this research it is shown that if students and advisors stand up we can stop bullying.
Bullying is not illegal, although 49 states do have Anti-Bullying Legislation. The only time bullying is illegal is when it involves harassment. Now although many schools do have anti-bullying programs not all of them are thought through and don’t take it to a higher and more extreme level. Now one of the biggest reasons schools don’t have anti-bullying programs is because they don’t know exactly what to do. Schools that do have programs have different types of objectives. A couple of examples is to define bullying so the staff knows exactly what it is, have specific measures of how to handle cases of bullying on the schools property, to make sure the staff is willing to go to the certain measures the school signs with how to handle it and to inform parents and students so more people can participate in the movement. All of these examples show that not just the staff is concluded in the Anti-Bullying programs, but also parents, teachers, students and others of the community. Although, other ways we could also protect our students would be to have more protective infrastructure. Except, Anti-bullying programs should be the first to prevent school shootings. Motivating this anti-bullying program is not a one person job. KiVa is one of the worlds not effective anti-bullying programs, it has been located in Finland and should be used in the United States too. 77 schools participated in the study of KiVa. 39 of the schools used KiVa and the other 38 got information about bullying. The only problem was KiVa was more effective. KiVa has reduced bullying and has helped tons of students through their schools. KiVa has been in 77 different schools and 7,000 students. The students there say that the program helps their self-esteem and has reduced their depression. If KiVa would be put in many more schools around the world school shootings would be much more reduced and less common. Children should be able to wake up and not be afraid if they or some else could be harmed in a tragic shooting. Children shouldn’t wake up and not want to go to school because they are bullied. 160,000 students refuse to go to school because they are bullied. Those children are not getting the education they need all because of bullying. Bullying is the mean monster under our bed and we need to make it stop. Anti-bullying programs could reduce bullying and school shootings. Bullying is one of the most common reasons for suicide. Anti-bullying programs could greater our nation and make children feel welcome in school and in their own bodies.
Did you know that from January 1 to march 24 there was 17 school shootings this year. Thanks to research by saeed Ahmed and christina walker thats 1.4 school shooting each week. What can the government do to prevent this massacre. One main thing that can be prevented is to upgrade the infrastructure with new attack resistant doors and safeguard glass. This could make it where it would reduce the killing rates in school shootings. Every parent want their children to be safe. So adding attack resistant doors would help that chance if anything were to happen. These doors delay the attackers for 4 mins that's enough time for emergency vehicles to come. These doors can resist bullets ,knifes or other hazards. That means that the attacker will have more struggle opening the doors . The next thing that they could upgrade would me be safeguard glass, Safeguard glass is bulletproof glass that delays the attacker for 6 minutes. This would prevent the attacker from entering so easily If he could not get the door to open. There is always the possibility of the attacker going through the window. therefore making windows more protected would keep the students and adults safe. There is many ways to keep schools safe. But I feel that upgrading the infrastructure is the most important one. These ways will benefit the way schools are safe. This would change my life personally by knowing I am safe in school. A few other ways that were proposed were, adding guards, adding more cameras or panic buttons. I think add these thing would help but adding attack resistant doors a bullet resistant doors would provide more safety because then the attacker can't step foot in the school so easily.
An important topic that is on the minds of most Americans is school safety. We have had 17 school shootings in 2018 alone, and it’s only April. Americans are concerned about keeping children safe in schools - safe from shootings, safe from bullies, and safe from any type of violence. Schools will become much safer with School Guard Glass. This glass will keep kids safe from a shooter until authorities arrive. Safe-Gaurd Glass, otherwise known as SGG, will keep schools safe. SGG is a type of glass that is thin and lightweight. This glass has a strong center which makes it shatter resistant. Therefore, it would keep the shooter out longer witch would give authorities the time to get there to assess the situation. Safe-Gaurd Glass will clearly work to keep our children safe. The most convincing reason is how many hits it can take from bullets, bats, and 2x4s. They tested this glass, and after four minutes it still had not broken. Four to six minutes is more than enough time for cops to get there. In addition, no one is being hurt while the intruder is breaking in. Another reason why this should be used in all schools is, it is cheaper than traditional bullet proof glass. SGG is cheaper because you don't have to replace everything only the glass. Clearly, Safe -Guard Glass is the best way to keep students in American schools safe from violence. Safe-gaurd glass is obviously the best thing that can be done to create safe schools. In schools, it would look like a force field to keep kids safe. It would work because it will keep the shooter out and it is more affordable.
Your typical day in school, you are working on tough homework. All of a sudden you must go into a lockdown because of a shooter active in the school. In fact, did you know that there have been 14 school shootings in this year of 2018 already? These innocent students did not deserve this. This needs to be put to an end! This is why schools should have armed teachers. There is plenty of evidence to prove this. First, there will be extra reassurance of safety. Even though metal detectors could also be safe, armed teachers will be able to shoot at a person at that moment. “Every second counts in a school shooting. Calling 911 and waiting for police to arrive isn’t good enough,” says expert Chuck Wright. Especially if a shooter is in the classroom, the teacher can immediately act on the shooter instead of risking the wait of a lockdown and the shooter taking action before anything can happen. Next, it would also be effective for the teacher if they were alone, since they’d have extra protection.Think, you’re on lunch break, eating happily and all of a sudden, a shooter enters your classroom. All you’d have to do is get out that gun and take action. “ I have 3 kids here, and I work in elementary. It does make me feel safer,” says Rachael Jordan, a teacher in the Ohio school district, which has armed teachers already. All in all, we should arm teachers because it can help reassure safety and be effective for teachers if they were alone. Even though metal detectors, clear backpacks, and officers outside of schools could work, teachers with guns should be taken for consideration.
School safety is an important issue in today's day and age. There have already been many school shootings just at the start of the year 2018. According to CNN’s Saeed Ahmed and Christina Walker, there have been 17 school shootings since January 1, until March 24. That is 17 too many. We have to put an end to school shootings for kids safety. Nowadays kids in school think “What would happen if we had a school shooting?” instead of thinking that they are actually safe in school. There are many solutions to stop school shooting but one above all will work the best. We have to put armed security in every school. Making schools safer is going to take a lot of work, and it will be hard, but if we put armed security guards in every school, it will make schools a safer place in general. Putting armed security in every school will decrease the number of shootings and it will make school safer in general. It may seem like a ridiculous idea, but like a former security guard, Wayne LaPierre says “The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun, is a good guy with a gun.” Putting armed security in every school will work, there have been multiple occasions in where it has worked. 98.4 percent of school shootings happen in a gun free zone, that means that almost all school shootings happen without a security guard o the premises. Also, it takes law enforcement 8 to 10 minutes to get to a school and stop an attack, so if there were armed security guards, they could easily stop the horrible threat and secure the school in less than 3 minutes. Not only will armed security guards stop further school violence, but they can also prevent it. They can also prevent bullying which can lead to further school violence. Most student shooters are a result of bullying, so if there was a guard there to stop that it could make schools safer in general. Overall, putting an armed security guard in every school will make school a safer place in general. Furthermore, there have been incidents like this where there has been a security guard on scene who was able to stop the shooter. At the Pearl High school shooting in Mississippi, the student shooters spree was cut short by an armed security officer. Also, at a Denver High school shooting the shooter was cornered by an armed security guard, and the shooting was cut short with no lives lost. Another time at a Columbine High school shooting an armed guard stopped the shooter, yes 12 people died that day but the massacre could have been much worse if there was not a guard. Out of 100,000 people that guard saved countless lives that day. Now yes, there was an armed security officer at the Florida shooting, but the officer stayed at his post and never went in to try and stop the active shooter, because of him people died that day that could have been saved. Overall, putting armed security in every school will work. It will decrease the number of shootings and it will save multiple lives. Armed security guards will make schools much safer. It has been proven and continues to be proven that armed security can and will stop active shooters. Now using things such as metal detectors or bullet proof glass may stop further school violence in the future, but right now, the only thing that will stop school shootings is having armed security guards in schools. As Wayne LaPierre says “The only thing that can stop a bad guy with a gun, is a good guy with a gun.”
As a student in 2018, almost every day you kind of feel unsafe because anything could happen. The violence in many schools are ridiculously high especially with the school shootings. There has been 17 school shootings from January 1 to March 24 this year. That’s an average of 1.4 school shootings each week. It’s crazy how one minute you’re just sitting in class and the next there could be someone trying to break through the door with a weapon as everyone in that classroom is panicking. It’s a horrible thing to see on the news that there has yet been another school shooting. Schools would be much safer if they had better infrastructure. If we have better infrastructure in schools, helpless kids would not only learn better, but they would also feel safe. There are many different statistics like schools meeting the basic learning infrastructure requirements and expert opinions about security around the doorways of classrooms. Sadly today, fatal school shootings have made this topic more difficult to discuss. There are many different statistics for how a school is designed. Many schools are not designed well enough for kid’s safety and health. In 2015, a helpless 5-year-old fell into a pit latrine. Schools should meet the basic learning infrastructure requirements like access to electricity, laboratories, libraries, and proper toilets. Schools are more focused on promoting access to a healthy learning environment. Which that is good but safety is also needing to be promoted. Experts have a lot to say about this. Experts have very strong opinions about this topic. Some say that security around the doorway such as better locks, steel doors, and steel frames are way to help this crisis. According to the Department of Basic Education, you’d need to commit to upgrading school infrastructure to optimum standards. The department says that people need to consider learner safety when they’re planning a schools infrastructure. Studies have shown that school infrastructure and standardized tests found positive results in better learning and safety. Therefore school infrastructure could save the education and lives of kids. In addition, it’s easier for people to get in schools that don’t have great infrastructure therefore, they can hurt the children in those schools. Schools would be much safer if they have better infrastructure. How could you help with school infrastructure?
As a student, the thought of a school shooting happening at my school frightens me. There have been 17 school shootings from January 1st, to March 24th this year, according to CNN’s Saeed Ahmed and Christina Walker. The helpless feeling that those students felt is something I never want to experience. That’s why better preparing and training students and staff of what to in a dangerous situation will keep schools safe. Preparing students and staff would require a few simple changes to the way they practice for something like a shooting. Having drills in the lunchroom, hallway, or even while kids are outside for recess would be a part of these changes. Allowing these drills to be unannounced would also be more effective on schools. Another fix would practicing drills other than lockdowns. Sadly enough, hiding isn’t always an option, and student will have to find another way out. One last idea is to provide training to both student and teachers how to protect themselves and one another. Ken Trump, president of Ohio-based National School Safety and Security Services, said it himself, “Drills should be run at different times of the day – such as during and between classes and when children are at lunch – so everyone can get used to any situation.” Better preparation for schools has many benefits for keeping them safe. Practicing drills in different areas such as lunchrooms will provide students with the knowledge of what to do if something were to ever happen there. This way, students and teachers will know exactly how to stay safe no matter where they are in the school. Although lockdowns are what most schools do as safety precautions, hiding could be out of the picture. Trying to hide larges classes is difficult, and people will likely get shot if they are easy to see. Teaching schools other options like an escape route will clearly benefit schools, making them safer. Finally, training both students and teachers how to protect themselves would higher their chances of survival in a life-threatening situation. Even if someone is not able to win a fight with a potential shooter, they could still use something they’ve learned to save their life or one of another. Although you may say that this is not doing enough, being fully prepared for anything that could happen a low-cost, yet simple way to keep schools safe. There have been schools that have tried these ideas as well. Oak Park and River Forest schools have practiced more drills, more often. These drills were also unannounced, making the students feel better prepared. Other schools also tried different types of training to make school safer. Schools in Maryland had teachers trained by police officers to help them protect innocent students that may be in trouble. The training included teaching them what to do and how to handle possible situations. Going through and practicing these were done as well. As you can see, preparing for shootings have been done by schools, and can soon be done to one near you. I used to believe that training students to defend themselves was the key to school safety. However, I have realized now that preparing everyone involved with a school had to be adding to this statement for it have more effect. If schools are more prepared for a school shooting, the outcome of one ever happening would be better.
School shootings are a devastating issue that schools all around the world are facing. While you may hear about a few shootings in the news, do you really know how many there are? A study done by CNN’s Saeed Ahmed and Christina Walker showed that there is an average of 1.4 school shootings a week. That means from the start of this study (January 1) to the end (March 24) there were 17 shootings. While some ideas such as, metal detectors and arming teachers may help the problem, it is clear that we need counselors in schools. Schools will become safer when it becomes possible for each student to get the mental health help that is necessary.
Mental health disrupts the way people think, talk, and act. When people cannot think clearly it leads to them acting out and causing violence. Having counselors at school would be a way to provide proper help to struggling students. During the tragic shooting at Sandy Hook both shooters shows signs of poor mental health. Signs such as mood swings, social withdrawal, and excessively high anxiety were noticed by family, peers, and social workers. If these shooters would’ve gotten help from a counselor then that may have been one less shooting.
While many people think that improving school safety is protecting staff and students from harm, they don’t realize that we need to protect people from themselves as well. At Greenville Kentucky a 17 year old girl committed suicide on school grounds. After this unfortunate event, the school board considered hiring counselors at school, considering the fact that Kentucky does not have school counselors.
School counselors play a big role in schools, from helping students reach academic goals to helping students with mental stability. A certified counselor, Carleton Brown, stated that “perpetrators in school violence often lash out because it is their only avenue to ‘be heard’.” Meaning that people cause violence to express emotions. Counselors are often one of the few ways students can express their feelings without the fear of being judged by students or teachers. According to “SchoolCouncler.Org” only 25 out of 50 states have counselors in school. Florida and Texas are in the 25 schools that do not have counselors, and they are two of the most dangerous schools in America according to CBS News.
While other ideas such as arming teachers and adding metal detectors may improve school safety, adding counselors would be the best improvement. Not only would it be a way for students to let out their feelings, but it will also be a way for students to think out their actions and get advice before going into action and doing something they will later regret. All in all school safety will greatly improve ave counselors are put in every school.
Schools will become much safer when we put police officers in them. As an 8th grader at Bartels Middle School I feel that putting police in all schools would reduce the number of school shootings and improve the behavior of the students. Great Mills High School in Maryland is one good example of why we need to put police officers in schools.
In Great Mills High School a school shooter came into the school and was shooting and the police officer was able to take him out before he could hurt or kill anyone. Ovral the tragic maryland shooting was over in seconds, because there was a police officer at the school and was able to take out the shooter. If the police officer wasn’t in the school imagine how many people could have been hurt or killed. A former detective and current sheriff in Kentucky said “putting an officer in every school might increase the coast, but when you spread those costs out over the entire tax base of a district it seems a little small price for the safety of our children and the peace of mind of the parents.” The police are trained for stuff like this, so let them do their job of keeping us safe.
Also, when putting a police officer in all the schools it would reduce the fights, bullying and other violent acts towards the students. Students wouldn’t have to worry about being picked on they could just focus on their education, to get smarter, and to prepare for the future. The police officers can also have a good relationship with the students.
All in all, the way to keep schools safe is to put police officers in them. A police officer saved Great Mills High School from a tragic shooter. If people blame the gun for the school shootings then why don’t we blame the car in a car crash, because it’s not the gun’s fault or the car’s, it’s the person. The head of the NRA said “to stop a bad guy with a gun, it takes a good guy with a gun.”
So, did you know that was 17 School shootings from january 1 to march 2, credit to Fox News. Schools are in danger and here’s some things we can do to our Schools to help, we must add metal doors, cameras, and more security officers.
Firstly, Cameras, video recording devices used for ages. These things can help our kids. They can help with school issues in figuring out who did what in a situation. We do already have some cameras in school, but are those even enough? Adding more would be a massive advantage to our schools. These cameras can even watch kids for any suspicious actions. They can also tell police the position of someone who might be dangerous giving them an advantage against that. They can also help find bullies freeing out school from such problems would also be great for kids being bullied.
Secondly, metal key locked doors can help with protecting kids in dangerous situations. These can be easy to lock, and are very hard to break into. They are also hard to tear down with bullets making them good for shooter situations. This would give children more time to exit the building. This also the lock any threats into a part of a school making it easier to pinpoint and take care of them. This will ensure safety for kids and also calm them down if the shooter goes for their door.
Thirdly, Armed Indoor Guard that watch the main entrances. These people can guard the entrance of a school and can see if children do any suspicious actions, they can also take care of the shooter or guard the entrance in case of a threat nearby the school. They will be armed with nothing more than a pistol and anything bigger would not be necessary. This will give children a relaxation as they know that an armed guard is watching over them.
Lastly, I believe that these three reasons really give kids a nice boost in safety and also calm them down from all the shootings happening, they’ll be protected and safe. Doing these things for our school ensures that are childs are happy and safe no matter what.
Saeed Ahmed and Christina Walker from CNN looked into how many school shooting there were, From January first to March twenty fourth there were 17 school shootings, That’s 1 to 2 school shootings a week. To keep students and staff safe schools should hire security guards.
If schools hire security guards they can keep students and staff safe from school shooters. Security guards can also be helpful when kids are being bullied so they can stop the problem before it goes any further. Security guards can also get the kids that are being bullied get help by telling the kids parents so they can deal with it.
19% of public high schools have security guards to keep their students safe. 8% of public middle schools have security guards also. Security guards can check out suspicious kids or adults to keep schools safe.
In 1999 Columbine had a school shooting, Then in 2002 they hired 92 security guards for their school, In 2005 they looked at what the security guards did and they had dealt with 2,606 criminal cases, 52 bomb threats, Confiscated 91 weapons 11 were firearms.
At Columbine in 2002 to 2005 dealt with 2,606 criminal cases, 52 bomb threats and confiscated 91 weapons 11 were firearms this was done by 92 security guards. That’s the reason why more schools should hire security guards so then they can keep the kids and staff safe at schools.
Saheed Ahmed and Christina Walker from CNN announced that from January 1, 2018 through March 24, 2018, there has been 17 school shootings across the nation. That averages out to about 1.4 shootings each week. Schools aren’t technologically advanced as they should be. There are kids are bringing guns into schools and not getting caught until after the damage has been done. There are ways to stop these shootings, without taking guns away from the public completely. To keep kids in schools safe districts need to focus on the large amount of bullying going on in schools and everywhere else. School bullying is a problem in elementary, middle, and high schools across the United States and around the world. It can be any kind of physical violence, name-calling, teasing, and rumor-spreading. It used to be thought of as a normal part of growing up but, school bullying is now looked at as a very serious problem. Since the late 1990s, several school shootings committed by the victims of school bullying have brought major media attention to the issue. Bullying is one of the leading things that add up to school shootings. Some kids turn to violence to deal with these issues. Maybe if more schools look into anti-bullying programs that kids can join to talk to about the problems they’re having with a kid. Give the programs more power to do something than school counselors can. 28 percent of the age group 12-18 are being bullied. 1 in 10 million will act on shooting a school, but it is still something to take very serious. School shooters aren’t really a specific type of person. It could be anybody. Everybody gets bullied throughout their lifetime. But, its not okay for people to bring others down and degrade them. Bad things can happen just like school shootings. Thats why districts need to focus on the large amount of bullying going on in schools and everywhere else in the world.

ReplyDeleteCNN and the authors said there were 17 school shootings from january 1st to march 24th that’s an average of 1.4 school shootings a week. The only concrete way to stop school shootings is to take away every gun in america
ReplyDeleteTaking away all the guns in the US would decrease heavily of school shootings and gun related violence in America.
ReplyDeleteSchool safety, a common issue how to protect innocent student lives and stop crimes while many people's first thoughts were add security guards, arm teachers I found that those involved weapons, weapons that could potentially go against what we’re trying to solve so I went with an idea I thought would work better.
ReplyDeleteArming and training school staff is a functional answer to school shootings .
An insurance policy to cover the staff would cost about $100,000
By having the response team, we will feel safer in school and the shooters will think twice.
ReplyDeleteThe answer is simple put police in school.
Part 1
ReplyDeleteApril 20, 1999, 13 people died and over 20 wounded in what is now known as the Columbine shooting.
Part 2
ReplyDeleteHaving a school liaison officer as the solution to school crimes is very good because it has worked in so many places including Baraboo, Ontario, Wisconsin Rapids, and Southern MIlwaukee.
ReplyDeleteBullying is the #1 reasons kids commit suicide.
ReplyDeleteKiVa is one of the worlds not effective anti-bullying programs, it has been located in Finland and should be used in the United States too.
ReplyDeleteEvery parent want their children to be safe.
ReplyDeleteSafe-Gaurd Glass, otherwise known as SGG, will keep schools safe.

ReplyDeleteFirst, there will be extra reassurance of safety.
ReplyDeleteMaking schools safer is going to take a lot of work, and it will be hard, but if we put armed security guards in every school, it will make schools a safer place in general. Putting armed security in every school will decrease the number of shootings and it will make school safer in general. It may seem like a ridiculous idea, but like a former security guard, Wayne LaPierre says “The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun, is a good guy with a gun.”
Putting armed security in every school will work, there have been multiple occasions in where it has worked.
ReplyDeleteIf we have better infrastructure in schools, helpless kids would not only learn better, but they would also feel safe.
ReplyDeletePreparing students and staff would require a few simple changes to the way they practice for something like a shooting. Ken Trump, president of Ohio-based National School Safety and Security Services, said it himself, “Drills should be run at different times of the day – such as during and between classes and when children are at lunch – so everyone can get used to any situation.”
Better preparation for schools has many benefits for keeping them safe.
ReplyDeleteMental health disrupts the way people think, talk, and act.
ReplyDeleteIn Great Mills High School a school shooter came into the school and was shooting and the police officer was able to take him out before he could hurt or kill anyone.
ReplyDeleteFirstly, Cameras, video recording devices used for ages.
ReplyDeleteIf schools hire security guards they can keep students and staff safe from school shooters.
ReplyDeleteSchool bullying is a problem in elementary, middle, and high schools across the United States and around the world.
