  1. Abuso Animal
Imagine it’s a perfect day, your family are going on vacation for eleven weeks. But what will you do with the dog? Ehhh, just lock it in its cage.
Something that has been going on for years and years is people abusing or neglecting their pets. Nowadays animal shelters are taking in more and more abused pets. Wisconsin state law says that no person may treat any animal, whether belonging to the person or another, in a cruel manner. Also the law says you can never abandon any animal. Breaking any of these laws could make you not be able to train or own any animal for 5 years!
The shocking number of animal cruelty cases reported every day is just the tip of the iceberg, most cases are never reported. All the other cases not put together by federal agencies, making it difficult to calculate just how common they are.
When asked, some pet owners say animal abuse starts when the animal does something wrong and the owner reacts with anger, and then release that anger on their pet. When watching poor animals suffer, it's almost like a mini september 11th. The sadness in their eyes is so unbearably sad, that it definitely fills you with sadness and shock as it did on september 11th.
When we asked some animal shelters about animal cruelty, they said the most repeated cases were, dogfighting, hoarding, and animal neglect. So now, we must try to use the information that is available to try to understand and prevent future cases of abuse.

  2. Should college be paid for or free?

In many interviews, people were surprised by a question. The question was “ Do you think college should be free or should people have to pay for it?” They had to think about the question for a while before they answered. At first most said free, but then they were unsure about their answer. They said they would need more information to give a final answer. After getting the information some changed their mind. This is the information they received.

First, college could be free. More people said they would go or have gone to college if it was free. Then, they could get degrees and a good paying job or a job they enjoy. Another reason would be that keeping college numbers up would be easier. More people say they would go if it was free, so there would be more people and higher student numbers. This could lead to overpopulation too as a downside of free college. Also, if college were free, grants for money off housing would be smaller. This would affect many people who struggle with money for living and daily expenses. They wouldn’t get a ton off and then they might drop out because of expenses of living. All in all, these are the pros and cons of free college.

Next, paying college. If college were to be paid for as it is now, there is money for scholarships and grants for the poorer families that can’t afford college. They can apply and get money off and still go to college. Another is that it can teach the student financial works and managing. They are able to learn these life skills early on by managing their money and college tuition and fees. A downside would be that even with scholarships, some still can’t afford to go to college. In the end, these are the upsides and downsides to paying for college.

Finally, college could be free or paying. Although this isn’t the Capulets and Montagues, it is still an important topic and future decision. Which kind of college would you want, paying or free college?

  4. Should More Gun Laws be Enacted?
It has came to America that the mass shootings and single-armed gunmen are a serious problem. Recent mass shootings like the Las Vegas gunman Stephen Paddock who shot from the 32nd floor in a casino into a crowd at a country music festival with several guns and ammunition. Another example is a single-armed gunman shooting in Fort Lauderdale Airport, Florida five shot and killed. The Texas church shooting was an alleged gunman who shot and killed 26 people at the First Baptist Church. These past shootings have all surrounded one problem. Which brings up one question, “should more gun laws be enacted”.
In America we average 88.8 guns per 100 people. Our government is still debating whether or not to enforce more gun control laws. Gun restrictions are currently still existing. Most Americans, including gun owners support new gun restrictions. The law that state a felon or mentally ill citizen shouldn’t have possession of a firearm isn’t enabled anymore. Even though gun control is a problem, it’s hard to say whether or not they should do something about it.
Gun control laws are just as old or older than the Second Amendment which was established in 1791. It is not an unlimited right to own guns. Also studies show that the legal purchase of handguns is associated with an increase of violent deaths. On the other hand, the Second Amendment of the US Constitution states the rights to own a gun for self-defence from invaders and raging threats is enabled. Having firearms for protection is something that always has been in America since the early settlers. It’s whether they choose to use them carefully and responsibly therefore some people aren’t showing these factors, but some are and will continue too. This is a very serious topic and there are many reasons to enact gun laws or to leave it the same. This is incredibly tough decision to make for our US citizens, our government wants to prevent mass shootings and violent deaths from happening more and more in our country. The moves they persuit to enact gun laws could be successful or cause more problems with firearms in the United States.

  6. How things changed in 8th grade

How many kids do you think have time to do their homework in class? Not a lot, but there are some solutions such as study halls, and homerooms. These solutions are like the magical kingdom.

A study hall is so important that the reporter can’t explain how much you need it in 8th grade to do all of your homework. Also, if you don't have a study hall you can use homeroom, but students only have two days to work on homework, and then the rest is reading. An example of the amount of homework students get is every other day we have to read a set amount of pages for English. When the teachers assign homework for only two days it is not impossible to complete. Another reason it takes so long is that maybe when students do homework they just are unfocused and just watching tv then that takes even more time.

Overall, study halls and homerooms are very important for the amount of homework students get in 8th grade. Even though it is hard to get a study hall, you still have homeroom.

  7. Assisted Suicide
Walking into a room seeing your sibling laying on the bed in unbearable pain, wishing only to take their place, and wondering if it is too late for them to pull through. Sadly too many people witness a loved one or close friends suffer. Sometimes these family members or friends pull through, a little suffering could be better than death, but sometimes others are not so lucky. They suffer for days, weeks, months, or even years and in the end not make it. Could euthanization be a solution?
Euthanization, also called assisted suicide, ends the pain in your pet's life when they become to mentally or physically unstable to live; could this be done to a family member or friends life too. There are a total of five different kinds of euthanization, but only two of which make sense in these situations. Voluntary euthanization, when someone gives permission for themselves to go through it, or involuntary euthanization, when the person who will go through it is to mentally or physically on stable to make the decision themselves. Euthanization is legal in five different states, Washington, California, Colorado, Oregon, and Vermont.
Many people said the euthanization will always put an end to someone's suffering, and the answer will always be yes because once you pass there will be no more pain. Not many people would feel guilty about putting their loved one through euthanization. However, guilt would take over if there was a chance they would survive. The conditions considered “bad enough” would be having a terminal illness that has progressed to far, or being on life support with no chance of getting off.
Although there is no way to tell weather euthanization in all states would be beneficial or not, all you can do is wish for the best to come. And hope it will.

  8. Judgement
“Most the time I walk down the hall and always hear people talking about others in ways no one wants to be talked about. They even talked about me though I was right in front of the them. They things they said can really hurt because they might not even know them. ” Many other people have been through this kind of situation.
Sometimes people don’t realize when this happens but eventually someone catches on. Judging people is like asking for some people to feel bullied. Or asking them to want to stay away and not trust everyone.
Most people try to find and use many different ways to reduce judgement. Ways we all could do this is being civil to everyone. Or staying away from some people you don’t care for. There are many other ways to reduce judgement.
Many people also get told, “this is just middle or high school you can get over it.” But this is not always the case. Many people everyday judge or get judged. Three out of four teachers say they have heard people talk bad about others everyday. Even adults get judged. Sometimes people just block other voces off. So how will you help reduce judgement?

  9. Your best friend tells you that right now her life is perfect, but inside her head she is thinking about how her sick mom sitting at home. Everyday she is getting worse. Just think, what if first aid, medical care were free? Your best friend mom would be getting taken care of. Your friend would be focused on her grades and her friends, not if her mom will make it through the week.
First, not all people have enough money to spend on surgerys or just pills to help them get better. Some people are from other countries, getting all the money for your house, car, and food is a lot. You don’t want to be worried about how much money you’ll spend and how much you'll have left for everything else. Their whole life would be some much less stressful if you didn’t have to worry.
Second, there is also the fact that if we didn’t pay for medical help that doctors would not make that much money to pay for their own life. They wouldn’t have money to pay for their house, car, and food for their family. Also there are people who drink or smoke. Their lungs or livers could get ruined and then they would get the free surgery. After they are a back to normal, they could start smoking or drinking again. Then their body could go back to the way it was before they got the surgery.
Third,64 million americans can’t afford health care. Parent worry that if their kids get hurt, they won’t be able to pay for it. In the beginning, the kids might not notice, until they see see their parents stressing out about not have money to pay for surgeries and doctor visits, if Healthcare was free people would not have to worry about any of this.
Not all people have enough money to spend on surgery or doctor visits for their family. Some people from other countries might not have enough money for surgeries because they just got here and still need money for there house and cars and everything else. In some countries they could be scented back to their home country. If people didn’t pay for things then doctors would make no money.Only some people do bad things that make their body bad and they need the they would get t and then start doing the bad thing again.64 million Americans cannot afford health care. With all of this information, what do you think should happen.

  10. Bullied Beyond Measure

What would happen if all bullying stopped everywhere? Some students don’t even feel comfortable going to school because of it. Teachers and students are both victims at school when noticing people are getting bullied. Some stick up for each other and others watch and walk away. From grades 4-12 there is a 49% of students getting bullied at schools in the U.S.

First, there are different types of bullying such as physical, social, and verbal. Physical bullying is when someone pushes, punches, wants to fight, etc. with you. Social bullying is anything online or over the phone to one another such as, commenting on someone's picture on Instagram and saying they look ugly or aren’t cool is Socially bullying someone. Verbal bullying is bullying someone by telling them something negative about themselves to that person such as a student telling another student that they’re ugly, fat, etc. All in all, there are many effects of bullying and affect all people differently.

Next, the effects on bullying is remarkably bad for a person's reputation. Some people question themselves about killing themselves or hurting them in any way. People may bully others because they think that they’re cool, are hurting as well, is having a rough time, something bad happened to them, or maybe they want more attention from friends and family.

Also, suicide is the third leading cause of death for younger people, half of the suicides are from bullying and there are about 4,400 deaths a year. The bully victims are 2 to 9 times more likely to consider suicide than the non-victims who might be feeling bad about themselves. Therapists can help those victims get talked out of or not end up committing suicide. In the end,

As a result of bullying, no one has came out to stop bullying everywhere even they know how bad it is for those people. The U.S. has 49% bullying for in schools, although Austria has the highest percentage of bullying overall at 21% and Sweden with the lowest percentage at 4%. More bullying is happening in Austria than Sweden because most European countries have large cases of human rights violation. A large number of students there owned up to not telling someone nor sticking up for themselves when they were getting bullied.

Finally, if bullying stopped everywhere that would be awesome! There would be less suicides, drama, depression, etc. Students and teachers would feel more comfortable going to school everyday learning and teaching.

  11. Do you have after school activities?

A student is getting home from basketball and it’s almost 10 o’clock. There’s still two hours of homework to be done. Not only is there homework there is also chores.
First, students have reported to teachers that the amount of homework we get is too much. Not only did students say there’s too much homework they also said their parents think the amount of homework kids bring home is “insane” also. Students announced when they leave school they have sports they need to attend to but, with the amount of homework they receive they stay up late trying to get it finished.
Second, students who have activities after school noted they have to stay up later than their bedtime to finish it so they won’t get in trouble. Students also reported if they didn’t have so much homework they would go to be at a decent time and be ready for school the next day. The students who have sports after school described to be stressed out because of all the time they’re putting into homework at night when their parents say they should be in bed.
Lastly, the students that don’t have sports after school noted that the amount of homework they receive is fine because they do it right after school when they get home, rather than late at night like the kids who have sports.
In conclusion, kids who reported having activities after school often stay up late finishing it while kids who don’t have sports don’t have to. All in all, it determines if a student has after school activities or not.

  12. Is There Too Much Homework?

“I feel like the teachers give us way too much, making us overwhelmed in stress.” Homework is being expressed as a major problem from the eighth grade students at BMS. A lot of them state that the teachers just give them too much, with “hardly ever” any work time in class.
Students are becoming “stressed out,” and “aren’t getting enough sleep” because they stay up too late doing homework. Students are posting on their social media platforms about how much homework they get and are asking others for help, because they are feeling overwhelmed.
“I’d say about 1 sometimes 2 hours a night,” doing homework. Others complain about the fact that they are so busy at night with extra curricular events, and that’s why they can never find time to do it. The sports, clubs, and other things they love, take up a majority of their night.
An obvious easy solution, would be to give those up, but the students are too attached to the things they love to do. Students have expressed many different ways homework is a stressful task, and wish the teachers could do something about it.

  13. Have you cheated?

Did you know that 7-10 students admit to having cheaters in their school? Only 1 out of 3 students will admit that they have cheated on a test before. Others just don’t really care about their grade. If teachers don’t care about the student’s grade, more kids are going to cheat. About a third of kids will admit that they will cheat if they won’t get caught.
Many kids that have been cheated on perfer to be moved during the test. Some kids get upset when they study very hard when it comes to the test and then for all of their hard studying just for someone to copy off there answers. Othere’s don’t care about if they get cheated off of because if they cheater gets caught their grade will be bad not them.
Teacher’s will usually see kids cheat when it comes to big test. They say most kids don’t like to study or try there best. Some cheaters don’t notice because there's not many test in classes. There’s always good and bad when it comes to cheating. The good part is if you cheat you could get a good grade, or you don’t get caught. The bad part is, is that you could get a zero, or you could get caught.

Cheating is to dishonorable and fairness is to respectable. If you cheat on a test admit it. You might get in less trouble if you admit you did instead of lying about it.

  14. Picture this you just went through 4-6 months of intense training and conditioning, you just won your debut cage match. Now all you want to do is sit back and burn though some of your earning but when you check your bank account only a part of what you were promised is there. Some fighters have reported being underpaid for their matches and Dana White (the commissioner of the UFC) has made a statement about this situation “When you fight pay-per view and you're a star basically in this sport you eat what you kill so the guys that bring in the majority of the revenue make the majority of the revenue.” An example of this would be conor mcgregor, the average UFC fighter makes 24,500 dollars per fight but conor mcgregor has made 500,000 dollars in one of his recent UFC fights. This is a complicated situation especially since there is no union or place where fighters can go to get help, so fighters are sometimes faced with the situation be underpaid or you don’t fight. A possible and what might be the best solution would be for fighters to have a union, but based on past events from recent years there is no tell to when a union might be a possible situation for UFC fighters.

  15. UNDERAGE DRINKING
Kids from that ages 9 to 13 are already drinking. So i did a little research and found out that teenagers are sneaking off into the woods and into their basements to drinks so their parents don't find out. The main point being do kids have the access to alcohol?
Even though the age for drinking is 21, so many kids are/or teens have access to alcohol. CDC says that “people ages 12 to 20 years old drink 11% of the alcohol consumed in the united states.” now where do you think there underage people are getting the alcohol from?m
Underage drinking is a huge problem mainly in the united states. The effect on underage drinking can and will affect everyone around you including you.
Studies show that 8th graders have consumed 7.3% of alcohol in the past month. ABout 72% of kids/teens are getting the alcohol without permission and without paying for it. Almost 188,000 people unders the age of 21 are getting into car crashes; etc. Teens are making dumb decisions like engaging in risky behavior and sexual activity. Which they know they would get in trouble for even if they weren’t drinking. They would have more self-control.
Most kids are under peer pressure, they feel like they have to make a good impression of themselves. And that's why so many young people nowadays are getting “drunk” or are drinking. Some teens are stressed and feel the need to drink so they don’t have to worry about anything. They think that it will make them feel better.
Even if kids/teens have parents that dont drink or have alcohol in there house kids are still getting alcohol the question is though how….how are they getting the alcohol…..
Parents need to start talking to their kids more. They need to make sure that they know where their kids are and what they are doing. Otherwise the problem in the united states with the underage drink won't stop.
All in all, parents, should have a more open relationship with their kids and people who are of age to have alcohol should be more responsible and not buy underage youth alcohol. Also parents need to keep their alcohol in a safe place.

  16. Are you a watcher?
“I have been the victim of bullying, i've been the watcher of it to and sadly i've been the bully.” This is what some people think but never say.
Everyone gets bullied or bullies someone in their life. Mostly about clothes and money and also appearances. Most of the time this happens during the school day.
Some people don’t have enough money to afford nice clothes and shoes. But some people can buy expensive clothes. Some of the stores they shop at is Under Armor, Pink, Rue 21, and many more. People who dont have alot of a lot of money shops at goodwill or walmart or the get hand me downs from friends or family.
Bullying is like hunting, you have a target and if you hit it or in this case say something right you get to theme, and take theme down. In school kids get bullied for their race or what they look like. Also because the kid might have a genetic disorder that they can’t control. Just remember your perfect just the way you are and never change for anyone.
Most bullying is in middle school because they’re turning into young adults. Mostly they get judged because their voice is changing or because of their acne. But everyone gets it so they need to get over it.
A way to stop all of this is if you’re getting bullied or you’re watching it happen. The best way to stop it is to get a group of your friend and tell the bully to stop.
So all in all, don’t let anyone dull your shine and don’t let them control you or hurt you. Stand up and be proud of you. Don’t be afraid to be you and ignore the haters.

  17. Death Penalty or Life in Prison
A criminal sentenced to life without parole(LWOP) only sits and waits for a lifetime to pass, and dies of natural causes after that lifetime. Would the death penalty have made things easier?
At this day and age prison is torture. They are designed for security, which makes sense nobody wants a murder running around after a prison break. But how do the inmates feel? They have little to no human contact. This only makes their sentence feel so much longer. Many inmates sentenced to LWOP say that they would prefer the death penalty. According to David R. Dow, a death row lawyer. Said that many of the people he fights for on death row feel David betrays them because he got them off of death row. When they realise they have to spend a lifetime alone, they think death would be better. When surveys for Proposition 34, an act that would abolish capital punishment, was handed out to 200 inmates, 50 responded. 47 of 50 said they didn’t want it to pass.
There are a few people that could be released at no risk to society, but many people on death row are where they are because they did something terribly wrong. Many prisoners waiting on death row volunteer or have their appeals waived because they don’t want to wait, they want it to be healthy. It can take an average of 17 years. Maybe if it didn’t take so long or prison was more free.
Although prison should be secure, inmates are people too no matter what they did and deserve to be happy.

  18. Julie Barton depended on her dog everyday. Why,because that dog helped her through severe depression. Many people go through depression, some of them go to therapy to help them out of it. But, there is also animal therapy, because some people would rather talk to animals. People would sometimes rather talk to dogs, horses,or even a pig.
Animal therapy does work, but it is very expensive Just to get a therapy dog it cost $17,000 to $60,000. Then add dog food, water, toys, and everything's, So add $500. Then you need to take the dog to the vet. Having a therapy dog is very expensive. At least 63% of people owns one or more pets. Just owning a pet can make your life better. The therapy animal that helps you could be your dog at home.
Animals can help kids get over disorders, they can also help kids learn to trust more people. There was a little boy, let's call him jack. Jack had autism and he would never let anyone touch him. His mom could never help him get dressed, bath him, or even hug him. His mom decided to get him a dog. That dog chanced his whole life. Becuase by his own chocie he layed to the dog. His life got a lot better after that.
Going to therapy can help you like sally. Sally was a 16 year old girl who didn’t know what gender she wanted to be, This made her weird and different than other peole. No one wont to talk to her. So she went to therapy, they told her that she could be what ever she wanted to be, but she had to make some friends. She tried, but it was hard for her, she didn’t knw how to explain to them what she was. So the therapy helped her. When she relised she wanted to to still be a girl. It helped her make friends becasue she knew what she was.
Richard Dawkins is a anthrozoologist. He is doing a study on how aniamls can help humans. In his last report he said that since the 1980 there have been 1000 stories told about how a animal help a person. He had people take a survery and proved that 80% of parents would rather have their kids get treated by aniaml therapy instead of therpay. In a mental heath journal is said that Animal-assisted therapy can reduce symptoms of anxiety. If all of this does not make you pick a side, some animals are just born to be a pet.

  19. Is playing American football worth the risk.I interviewed a Portage middle schooler and he said, “After a long hard game game of football I limp into my bed to get some rest. After I get there I mumble that I feel like I broke every bone in my body.” in this article I will be finding if American football is worth the risk.
According to a number of reports, football has the highest concussion rate of any sport. High School students are nearly twice as likely to get a concussions as college players. It’s estimated that 60% of high school football players get concussions and over 1 million high schoolers play football. So that's over 600,000 high schoolers that get concussions every year.
Concussions are very harmful for the brain and can stop students from learning and make problems in the future. A recent study by the Journal Of American Medical Association found that 110 out of 111 former NFL players have CTE. CTE stands for Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy which is a disease of the brain and is associated with repeated head traumas like concussions. A number of NFL players like Junior Seau, Dave Duerson, and Aaron Hernandez all committed suicide. Autopsies have revealed that their brains showed clear signs of CTE.
The NFL has recognised that there is a clear link between football and CTE and they, along with all other football organizations, are taking steps to make the game safer some ways they are is by penalizing hits to the head, they have a concussion protocol where the monitor concussions beter, using dummies instead of real people during practios, and making the helmets better especially helmets.
The implications of this investigation find that the NFL and all other football organisations acknowledge that CTE is there and are taking steps to fix it. Nevertheless are these steps good enough?
